Catalyst 4507 Sup V-10GE problem

Hello,
We have two Catalyst 4507 connected to two sites at the same city throught a black fiber. We use the Gigabit Ethernet ports on the Sup V-10GE to connect the fiber via Cisco CWDM.
It is the second time that the superviser enginge V-10GE is frozen; L1 and L2 are correct on the switch, the link is well connected. but the switch does not response to IP requests like ping and ssh (L3 does not work). We should reboot the switch to resolve the problem.
Why did it happen? Is it a bug of the Sup V-10GE?
Thank you.
Jessie Dong

When the problem is present do you have console connection? how is the proc cpu? Have you check the STP when the issue is there? Is chaging the uplink port to antoher port regain connectivity to the switch? Wihtout much more info, there no way to tell whether you are running into a bug or not.

I can appreciate a technical information about how can I configure WCCP for the comunication between the Catalyst 4507 with Sup II+ with the WAE 474.
I probed with other router instead the catalyst 4507 and the configuration and communication were succesfully; that was for verify posible error of configuration on WAEs; but the final objetive is to use the catalyst 4507R.
    Thank for your assistance.

  • 10 gig xceiver in Sup V 10Ge Sup Engine

I am using an X2-10GB-LR 10 gigabit singlemode xceiver in a Sup V 10GE engine. I am getting low levels across my link. I would like to know if there is any means of optimizing the optics. Via software or otherwise. I have verified that I am transmitting at a level well within the Cisco documented acceptable range, but it would be very helpful if I could tweak it to be as close to the max level as possible.
Presently I cannot find where I could do that or any documentation that supports the ability to do that.
    Thanks in advance

  • Sup V 10GE unexpected reboot

I have a 4510R with dual redundant Sup V 10GE engines. This is on a lightly used network.I have done a show tech support and forwarded it to Cisco. Being as this was done though on the "failover" engine much of the most relevant info is not there. There is also no log info or crashinfo files. One of the things I am trying to get an answer on is the high level of memory being held in the dead "process". It is 32MB's and basically holding steady. 99% of this number has been allocated by the Router Kernel.
Is this unusual? It seems to me to be very high. If anyone has any experience or point me to some documentation on this I would be most appreciative.
    Thanks you

A memory block is considered as dead if the process which created the block exits (no longer around). Each block keeps track of the address and pid of the process which created it. During periodic memory tallying, if the process that scheduler finds out from a block pid doesn't match the the process that the block remembered, the block is marked as dead. The "dead memory" in IOS is misleading as not all of the "dead memory" may actually be dead, and might still be in active use by the system. In IOS it is relatively common for one process to allocate blocks that will stick around even after that process is dead. This is especially true for configuration processes like exec which might create all sorts of things. So memory marked as belonging to process *Dead* was allocated under the control of a process that is no longer running. It is normal to have a significant chunk of memory in such a state--for instance, if persistent system data structures are created due to the actions of some process, the memory will be marked as belonging to that process, but the process doesn't ever return the memory (some other process may return it later on). The only way to actually clear that is to reload the device.

The transciver is Cisco, changed the cable but the problem is always same.
    what's the problem?
    Thanks alot for cooperation.

You're just using the the patch cord between devices?
If so, with 10g SR, and any 50/125, I agree, I wouldn't expect that to be the issue.

Yes, DBL is a (unique to) 4500 sup QoS feature.  Likely configured in your egress service-policy.
I don't recall the sup7 QoS architecture, but switches often provide fixed egress queues that you map traffic to via either CoS or ToS markings.  The QoS section of the User Guide, for your IOS version, should explain.

  • N280 gtx-t2d1g super oc connection problem

just bought this video card super oc goes up to 700mhz. unfortunately , still not able to get it to work .
i was hidden the facts that this card has a 8 pin and 6 pin connector.
i just bought a power supply toughpower from thermaltake 850w cable management.
and of course , it has 2 pci express connectors 6 pins.
it did have 2 short 6 inches cables adapters 6pin to 8 pin . but the 8 pin has a male output.
so too short and wrong plug.
this power supply unit should be sufficient . it has up to 62 amps .
and 18 amps each pci 6 pins .
but how in the hell am i supposed to get out of this .
they sell an adapter on some website , from a 6pin to 8 pin , and it seems very short .
my psu is in the bottom and more than 6 in from the video card.
i read you could try to hook up a 6 pin inside the 8 pin of the video . it goes only one way .
since i had to cable 6pins , i did that , but nothing , the video card light up the red light inside , but it sends no signals to the tvscreen .
my old video card actually present of course has no problems. asus 7300 gt.
anyway , everything is new on this pc .
    but the video card.
i also read in other forums that 2 6 pins cables would not work because 2 of the 8 pins are grounded and it needs to have contact with 8 wires to start up.
    which is true?
should the card not work partially at least with only one cable hooked up or the 2 cables 6pins hooked up to it?
let me know how your guys have resolve the problem . if you have used an adapter or is it possible to have an extention cable to it?
since i do not feel like buying another psu .
    thanks

okay. installed windows on another disk , i had not used before  . and then the video driver and all other drivers after . for that i unplugged the old hardrive and plugged it into the new unpartitioned hardrive . and it is working . the video card is working. so i went back to the previous drive with all settings and left the 280gtx just in case and boot the pc. miracle , now, the windows opened up and detected new hardware and , i let it detect the older driver 177.2.
it did and it works now . i am using the same windows to write you. i did not reboot the pc yet to find out if it will start again . so here it is .i have no idea what is going on . looks like the bio detection with the new device and the driver/, but not sure how and why.
should i try to install the newer driver 181.2 on top of this one or not. remember the gtx280 did not work with either driver in the past .
i would like to take advantage of this new driver . but i am not sure for the time being.
normally i would remove the older driver and install the new one . but now i am not sure even if that would make any difference and instead if i was going to do that later on , install directly after the old one without removing the old one first .
    follow me?
any suggestions and explanation why or what happened .?

  • Catalyst Express 500 series connection problems

Hello! our company is currently using two 500 series switch connected to eachother using the g1/1000mbits port, a cisco router is also plugged in to one of the switches for broadband internet access. After deployment the following problems came up, we are unable to use our wireless access point even when the port is set up as being "access point" using the smartports feature, we simply cant ping the access point no matter what port type we set on the switch and we keep having the error message on the router that it has denied connection from that device, my feeling is that for some reason i'm not aware of the router is blocking certain devices to transfer data no matter what type of port we define on the smartports feature. I cant find anyway or option on the router software to disable this blocking or filtering of the data in order to connect any devices i want normally without any restrictions. for some reason the switch is not accepting connections from the access point...
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Fernando - London - UK

Hi, well, i did disabled STP but it didnt help, i'm going to post the network topology more exactely and the settings being used so its easier to get any help as i think i missed some points about our network :) ....so here it goes :
    1. All the devices and client computers are using fixed ip addresses on the range 192.168.254.x
    2. Topology :
    Switch number 1 connected devices:
    17 client computers connected
    1 printer
1 cisco router (with dhcp disabled and using fixed ip too)
1 Netgear AP using set with DHCP
    Switch number 2 connected devices:
    10 client computer connected
Switch 1 and 2 are connected using the G1/1000mbits uplink port
Settings being used on BOTH switches (they are both catalyst 500,same software version) :
    - default vlan1 is set and enabled
    - STP enabled
    - IGMP snooping enabled
    - all ports are enabled and set to auto mode for speed and duplex
    - port Gi1 that is used to connect both switches is set as "Switch" type with smartports.
    - gateway (cisco router) ip address set
    - security set to "low"
    - STP settings on switch 1:
currents roots: VLAN1 , priority:32768 , root port: fa24 (where the router is connected), route path:38
    - STP settings on switch 2:
    currents roots: VLAN1 , priority:32768 , root port: Gi1 (uplink to switch 1), route path:42
    switch 1 specific settings:
    - the port where the AP is connected is set using smartports as "Access Point" and the port where the printer is connected is set as "Printer" also using smartports on the switch device manager software.
    - the port where the cisco router is connected is set as "router" with smartports
    Facts:
    - I am able to ping all the devices on the network from any computers connected to both switches.
    - I am able to ping the printer from any computer connected to both switches as well.
    - When AP is connected directly to the cisco router wireless clients have access to internet with no problems
    - all wired client computers on both switches connect to the internet using the router without problems.
    Issues:
    - Cannot ping the AP from any client computer on the network
    - When printing from Switch 1 clients everything goes well, but when i print from clients on Switch 2 i am unable to print as its unable to connect to the printer, however i can ping the printer on the command-line !
    - When i try to plug in the network cable from the AP to its designated port on Switch 1 the network crashes !
    Error messages:
When trying to print from clients on Switch 2 or when try to connect and use AP on switch 1 i get or "access denied to device connecting to portxx" or i get an STP blocking error .
Hope the picture is clearer now.
    thanks once more.
    Fernando.

  • Vlans on catalyst 4507 & 4503

i have redundant 4507 and 4503 connected by 2 gigabit in the main bulding and 4 other bukding contains 4503 , i want to make vlans "around 8 vlans" for my campus. how can i start making this vlans and which protocol i use.
and how can i use vtp in this design.
all catalyst connected to the main 4507 and 4503 by fiber optic.

    Hi
Assuming that you want your links from your other switches to be Layer 2.
    1) You need to make the links between your other switches and your two core switches trunk links.
    2) You need to make the 4507 & the 4503 switches vtp servers. You will need to setup a vtp domain name (and optionally a password)
    3) Make your other switches are setup as vtp clients using the same vtp domain name. To be absolutely sure you don't mess up the network firstly put your other switches back into VTP transparent mode. Then make them vtp clients.
    4) Create your vlans on one of the vtp server switches. You should then see these get propogated to the other switches.
    5) Set spanning-tree root for the vlans to be one of your core 4500 switches and spanning-tree secondary to be the other switch.
    6) Create Layer 3 SVI's on the 4507 & 4503 and run HSRP between them. ie. if you have created a vlan 10 and the subnet range is 192.168.1.0/24 your SVI config would look like:
    4507 switch
    interface vlan 10
    ip address 192.168.1.2
    standby 10 ip 192.168.1.1
    standby 10 prio 110
standby 10 auth "add a string here"
    standby 10 preempt
    4503 switch
    interface vlan 10
    ip address 192.168.1.3
    standby 10 ip 192.168.1.1
    standby 10 prio 100
standby 10 auth "add a string here"
Do this for all the vlans. Do a no shut on the interfaces.
    6) If all your layer 3 interfaces are on the 4507 & 4503 then you don't need to run a dynamic routing protocol. If you do want to run one i suggest EIGRP as it is easy to configure and fast to converge but as i say you don't really need one in your setup.
I have attached a link to the 4500 config guide for IOS. Your IOS may differ but most of it is pretty much the same.

  • Super irritating windows problem - how to right click without drivers!!??

i'm trying to help a friend install x64 windows 7 on her "new" macbook. i say "new" bc here in argentina they are a bit behind on the latest models. we have a late 2009 macbook.
she bought this computer before and i successfully installed windows 7 x64 on it, but she changed back to a pc, then BACK to a macbook. same model.
for some reason, the install of windows was flawless this time, despite using the same windows disc and the same model macbook.
ANYWAY, i'm at the point where i put in the install dvd to install the windows drivers, and i get the message "x64 not supported on this machine"....
i've found a workaround online, where i can go into the bootcamp64.msi file, etc...
but how the h.e.l.l. do you right click without the bootcamp drivers installed????
this is windows 7, which is a piece of krap, but it's what she bought....
this is super annoying. anyone have any ideas?
i need to right click so i can install the drivers so that the trackpad can do what right click is supposed to do.
    thanks...

    hey, thanks for responding....
that didn't work, because i'm on a trackpad that doesn't have the bootcamp drivers installed, but in order to install the drivers in windows 7, it requires a right click to access the drop down menu to "troubleshoot compatibility" of the bootcamp x64 driver...
but after some digging around, i found that the work-around for right-click WITHOUT drivers is the following:
    shift-f10 (click)
again, thanks for responding. i love apple forums, usually people willing to help others, especially when it comes to lame windows compatibility.
hopefully someone who encounters this same b.s. will find this post.
    take care!

  • SUP Nested Array Problem in REST Response while Creating MBO

I am using SUP 2.0 to build MBOs from a rest web service which sends me a list of profiles in which each profile has a list of industries associated with him that mean my resultset contains an array of industries in the XML response for each of the profile.
What SUP is doing when I am trying to build MBOs and execute them, it is returning me duplicate rows as the MBO is not able to hold complex object like array or list. Each profile is repeated n times if the profile has got n industries,
How to handle this kind of response in SUP ?
    My Profile structure looks like
    Profile {
      STRING city;
      STRING name;
      STRING profileID;
      STRING[] industries;

Okay I am defining it more elaborately.
suppose from a web service u get a response which contains a list of profiles as its result. Now each profile has got a list of industries as well. But MBO in SUP don't support complex data type like array of objects. Now when i try to preview, if i had 2 profiles in the resultset and say 1st profile 'a' has got 3 industries and 2nd profile 'b' has got 2 industries so now my resultset contains 5 rows like
    Name           City            ProfileID           Industries
    a                   c1              p01                   i1
    a                   c1              p01                   i2
    a                   c1              p01                   i3
    b                   c2              p03                   i4
    b                   c2              p03                   i7
How to handle it in a better way, Can I use SUPObjectList somehow to hold list of Industries for each profile in the resultset without getting repeated entries.
    Thanks

I'm not quite sure, but the ATI Xpress 1250 may have been dropped from the driver support list. AMD/ATI changed a few things there back one month or so.
Apart from this you should not try the driver from amd but test this one from aur:  http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25105
    Thank you!!
That was exactly what I wanted to know!
I was using the catalyst 9.4 drivers in the AUR and was searching for the legacy drivers from the AUR.
Thanks again! Will try and post the results.

  • Super Crazy Graphics Problem, HELP!

So I posted this in the Safari Discussion Board, but then realized it happened outside of Safari.
Whenever I do something that I would think requires the graphics card, the screen goes all crazy, as if someone took a screenshot and draw all over it with MS Paint. It just started happening 5 minutes ago and I am even having trouble writing this because the craziness keeps blocking the text box. My MacBook Pro is a year and a half old now and I don't know what caused it. I was surfing in Safari and suddenly BOOM. Crazy lines and squiggles everywhere. I remember reading about this a while ago but it was concerning the iMac. Can someone fill me in? I got so scared the first time it happened that I don't even want to restart in fear the computer may explode, haha.
Here is a picture from my phone:
    http://www.timshundo.com/dpud/uploads/0420080129.jpg
As you can see, it is not a screen problem because the mouse is above all of the crap and is still movable. It isn't until I do something else, like activate dashboard, when it all goes away. HELP!

If you're unlucky you might have a hardware issue and need to go through apple service for complete diagnosis/repair. Usually when encountering a serious issue I'd check I have all my important data backed up. Next is to consider some trouble shooting/diagnosis of the issue (if you have APP, may just not want the hassle and go straight to Apple service). Apple have a step-by-step KB article on how to isolate issues in OS X on your Mac, this is a good place to start:
