  • Erasing a config and vlan.dat file in Catalyst 4507R Switch

    Hi,
I am unable to erase the configuration from Catalyst 4507R Switch. When i do "write erase" and reload the switch, the configuration still remains on the switch.
    Switch1#write erase
Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all configuration files! Continue? [confirm]
    [OK]
    Erase of nvram: complete
    mp024-dc-nr00#sh start
    startup-config is not present
After this i did reload and configuration still didn't get removed.
    I  tried
    erase /all nvram:
    reload
    This also didn't help.
    I also tried:
    erase /all non-default
    reload
    This also didn't help.
Can anyone suggest how to erase the config on Catalyst 4507R Switch.
    Thanks,

    Hi Saroj,
do you see the below symtoms:
    Cat4500# write erase
Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all files! Continue? [confirm]y[OK]
    Erase of nvram: complete
    Cat4500# reload
System configuration has been modified. Save? [yes/no]: n
!--- Do not save the configuration at this prompt. Otherwise, the switch
!--- reloads with the current running configuration and does not reset to default.
    Proceed with reload? [confirm]y
    2w0d: %SYS-5-RELOAD: Reload requested
To erase the vlan.dat file on the 6500/6000 switches, issue the erase const_nvram: command. On the 4500/4000 switches, issue the erase cat4000_flash: command. On the fixed configuration switches, issue the delete flash:vlan.dat command.

  • Password recovery at catalyst 4507R-E

Hi. I have catalyst 4507R-E and 2 engines are located at this catalyst. the engines are active standby. when i begin to recover i write  the recover config at main engine then i must be reset the catalyst after reboot active engine go to satndby and standby go to active. so i can not recover it.
    how can i solve this?
must i first remove standby engine and then recover active engine
then put the standby and active engine configuration go to standby.
am i rigth? i am afraid the i lost the configuration because i have not backup configuration.
    i used this PDF.
    please write your comment.
    thank you very much.

    Hi teymur,
You never lost your configuration, what you need to do is...
    1. Make a complete config synch between active and standby supervisor engine (I hope autosync is already enabled)
    2. Write the config to NVRAM on standby supervisor engine.
    3. Now when you put back the standby supervisor engine, reload the active supervisor engine whcih take the standby be active and active be standby.
Also I would like to infor the password recovery procedure for you...
Try the below procedure with only one supervisor in the chassis.
    1) Connect the console cable to the Supervisor IV console port
    2) Reset the 4507 by power cycling the unit.
    3) Interrupt the boot sequence by hitting CTRL+C
    4) Using the confreg command, I set it to skip the boot-up configuration.
    5) I issue the reset command to reboot the 4507 again.

  • Catalyst 4507R plus E Switch Discovery Issue

    Hi,
I am having issues doing automatic discovery for Cisco Catalyst 4507R plus E Switch IOS 12.2(54)SG, I am using IP ping sweep to discover devices on my network.
When i first setup LMS4.0 with few devices on the network, i discover the C4507 without a problem together with other devices i have on the network but for some reasons now its failing to discover C4507. I have large numbers of WS-C3560X and C4507 on the network, WS-C3560X always discovered just fine.
I tried to use SolarWinds network device monitor I installed on the server to check if there's any SNMP or connectivity issues. I can discover C4507 using Solarwinds without a problem, so im suspecting it could be LMS configuration issue.
Is there any special settings I need to tweak to make this working?

A newer version of IOS should generally be fine.
It's generally the SNMP sysObjectID that LSM keys into. As noted in the table you cited, it should be 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1286 for the 4507R+E.

  • Catalyst 4507R+E Clock Module

    Hi,
I noticed that my 4507R+E chassis have the following module installed:
    WS-X4K-CLOCK-E
I found in this EOL announcement that it's the clock module for 4507R-E chassis and is EoS since 2013:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/eol_C51-715893.html
Why the same module is installed in the new chassis and there are no spare parts available ?
    Thanks,
    Aron

This catalyst 4507R-E whit this Supervisor Supervisor II+ WS-X4013+ suppourt thos module WS-X4648-RJ45V+E ?
No, your supervisor only supports classic linecards but the WS-4648-RJ45V+E is not a classic line card so it is not supported. Have a look at this link and refer to Table 1 which shows which supervisors you could use with this card -

  • Cisco Catalyst 4507R+E with WS-X4748 blade, ports not working

I have a Cisco Catalyst 4507R+E  (with Sup7-E) and two blades; one WS-X4748-RJ45V+E and one WS-X4648-RJ45-E.
When I connect a device to a port on the WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade the port will not come up, show interface shows the status as "notconnect". When I connect the same device to the WS-X4648-RJ45-E blade the interface comes up.
The WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade seems to have initialised okay, it appears in the output of "show module" as OK.
I get exactly the same effect on a second, identically configured Catalyst 4507R+E.
The software version is IOS XE 3.1.0SG, which according to the release notes supports the WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade. Has anybody else seen anything like this?

I have 2 Core switches, single SUP on each.
Line cards #1 and #2 randomly stop forwarding packets, only solution is to reload the switch ( hw-module reset does not work ). I have cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.05.00.E.152-1.E.bin and the sympton looks the same as the described one,
although the code is newer than 3.2.2SG.
Now we are downgrading to cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.04.02.SG.151-2.SG2.bin to check if that solves the issue,
otherwise we´ll try removing/re-inserting the modules, and if issue persists, most probably RMA the Core1.
We´ve sent a show tech to Cisco support while the issue was happening.

  • CISCO CATALYST 4507R+E + Supervisor 8-E

    Hi,
I need help and clarification regarding the software license of Sup 7-E and Sup 8-E. Based on the catalog  it ships with IOS XE universal image? Here are my inquiries.
    1. With IOS XE universal image, what is the software license installed in Sup 7-E and Sup 8-E? Is it LAN Base or IP Base?
    2. Is there an option to purchase the Sup 7-E or Sup 8-E with an Enterprise Base license?
    3. How many priority queue does it support?
    Thank you,

    Please find answer:
1- Cisco provides LAN Base software only when purchasing SUP7E or SUP7L-E bundle with a single Supervisor, in all other cases IP Base license is provided at no additional cost.
There will continue to be three packages: LAN Base, IP Base, and Enterprise Services.  ( IP Base and Enterprise services to be purchases seperately)
    2-
    Q.    Which licenses are available for Supervisor Engine 7-E, 7L-E or a Cisco Catalyst 4500-X Series system?
    A.     See Table 1 for package licenses. These will be delivered with new Supervisors or available as an upgrade through Cisco software activation. The Cisco Catalyst 4500-X Series only supports IP Base (default) and Enterprise Services (as an upgrade).

I need to deploy WAAS between a branch and HQ.
The HQ side is a catalyst switch 6509-E (VSS) and branch side is a catalyst 4507R-E.

Whereas on the Branch side, the platform 4507R-E doesn't support ACL with WCCP, so it means the WCCP will intercept all the TCP traffic.
What would be the impact and how do i deal with this situation.
Or is the WAEintellgent enough to pass through the unwanted traffic ?
Or do i need to make individual policy for pass-through for each of the unwanted traffic ?
    Regards,
    Jilani

    Hi Jilani,
Can't see from your mail what kind of supervisor you are using in your 45xx switch.
But please be aware that if your're using af SUP-7-E or a SUP-7-L-E WCCP is NOT supported for the time being.
WCCP is supported in Hardware but we're waiting for a software release, which supports this.
This is according to the release notes :
    SUP-7-L-E : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_25346.html
    SUP-7-E : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_24726.html
Strange thing is that you can actually "configure" some WCCP stuff, but the config will never hit the running-config.
    And you cannot enable WCCP.
Feature navigator states that WCCP is available in IOS XE 3.2.0XO (for SUP-7-L-E) but release notes tend to be more trustworthy that feature navigator.
    Best Regards

  • Unable to connect a Netapp San to a Cisco Catalyst in 10Gb

I have a Cisco Catalyst 4507R with a WS-X4606-X2-E and X2-10GB-SR to be connected to a Netapp SAN and it does not work.
With show interface transceiver detail it seems that the power sent by netapp is good but the link stay in dwon down state
    Any help?

down/down is related to layer 1 issue. Make sure the SFP is correct on both ends (and same type: LR vs SR) and also make sure you are using the right fiber. You can loop back on the same catalyst both sfps with the cable to see if the link comes up.

So the two special servers need to NOT communicate with just the other 38 servers?  If so, place in different subnet/VLAN from other servers and use ACL(s).
Or, if your equipment supports, place the two special servers within a PVLAN community separate from your other servers.

Number of Service Group Clients:     0
Number of Service Group Routers:     0
for the services 61 and 62.
In the Router that start reflect a diferent value.
I can appreciate a technical information about how can I configure WCCP for the comunication between the Catalyst 4507 with Sup II+ with the WAE 474.
I probed with other router instead the catalyst 4507 and the configuration and communication were succesfully; that was for verify posible error of configuration on WAEs; but the final objetive is to use the catalyst 4507R.
    Thank for your assistance.

  • Exec-timeout doesn't seem to work

I've been having a devil of a time getting exec-timeout to clear idle vty/ssh sessions. This investigation started when we were rolling out new Catalyst 4507R+E switches with Sup7L-E's under IOS XE 03.04.02.SG (what they shipped from the factory with.) Idle SSH sessions on the vty lines were not being cleared, despite the config being:
    line vty 0 4
     access-class VTY_ACL in
     exec-timeout 30 0
     logging synchronous
     length 0
     transport input ssh
So I opened a TAC case, and eventually they referred to bug CSCug31122. This wasn't terribly satisfying, as we are not talking about new or revolutionary functionality, and a general distribution release on a mature platform. Clearing an idle session does not require the most sophisticated programmer at Cisco. But this led me to do more tests, and I have yet to find a hardware/IOS combination where this works correctly. So far I have failures for:
4507R+E/Sup7L-E/IOS XE 03.04.02.SG, both vty and console lines
    3560/12.2(40)SE, vty lines with ssh
3750/12.2(44)SE6, vty lines with both telnet and ssh
    3845/12.4(24)T6
This seems more than coincidence. Is there something I am missing, or is this an unusually complicated programming issue?

    Hi,
Did you reload the SALTCONFIG file from the updated SALT deployment file with the wsloadcf command? If not, you will still be using the old value until you update the SALTCONFIG file.

  • PVLAN Guidance

Greetings forum. So I am working on a project that could potentially make use of PVLANs to isolate some hosting servers we are possibly going to bring online in the coming weeks. We currently have Catalyst 4507R switches as the core at our DC running IOS version 15.0(2)SG7. We are using SVIs for Inter-vlan routing on the 4507Rs. We are running VTP version 2 currently. I am trying to lock down some answers with regards to running PVLANs in my environment. Any help here is much appreciated.
I have read that to run PVLANs, you need to put your switches in transparent mode before enabling PVLANs. The thing I am not sure on is why. Do they say this because only VTP version 3 supports the synchronization of PVLANs in the VTP domain, and without version 3 your PVLANS will not be propagated, or is there an another reason to put your switches in transparent other than this. I understand that without v3 I would have to manually configure the PVLANS on my switches that would needs them. Just trying to understand if thats the reason they say to put VTP in transparent mode before implementing PVLANS or if there is something else to it I am missing. Can I run PVLANs using VTPv2 and manually configure the PVLANs on the switches that need them?
Secondly, in order to switch to using VTPv3 from VTPv2, are there any gotchas I need to be aware of. I have two VTP servers in my VTP domain. I understand VTPv3 works differently with regards to VTP updates. When I change to version 3, will the current VLAN Database be overwritten causing me to loose my current VLANs, or will the current VLANs stay as is while I go about switching all my switches to VTPv3. Would like to avoid wiping out my network if possible.
Third, I have a VMWare ESX setup. These new hosts will be VM servers. We do not have a license to support the Distributed VSwitch which allows PVLAN support for ESX VMs. These VMs are running on a Dell M1000e chassis with Cisco WS-CBS3130G-S switches in it. They have limited support for PVLANs. We have VLAN trunk uplinked to our core switches from these blade switches, and then trunk to the VMWare standard switch so we can control VLAN placement of the VLAN hosts. Looks like this:
    4507R---------------->WS-CBS3130G-S----------->VMWareStandardSwitch--------->VMWare Guests
                   Trunk                                            Trunk                                                  Access
I believe there is some way to set up using PVLANs using a setup like this. I think using an isolated PVLAN trunk port. The Blade switch does not seem to support that feature (running 12.2(40)EX1). This is said to be the desired practice when you have upstream switches which do not support PVLANs. Since my VMWare switch does not support them, but the switch linking the core to the vswitch does somewhat I am trying to understand the issues that would be seen there.
Again lots if questions. Any help would be much appreciated.
