Catalyst 5500 and WS-G5483 GBICs - Compatible?

Is a WS-X5410 Gigabit Ethernet Module compatible with the copper GBIC WS-G5483? I hope so, or the 5500 goes out in the trash.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately, the copper GBIC WS-G5483 or any other copper GBIC is not supported in the CAT5k. Here's a list of switches that support copper GBICs.

Interconnecting Catalyst 3750 and 2948G-L3

I am trying to interconnect a Catalyst 3750 and a 2948G-L3 using fiber GBIC. The interfaces where the GBIC and fiber are attached show up as physically down. I have tried different ports and also changed both switches. No Luck. If I connect a 3524 to the 3750 using the same connection it works.
Are 2948G-L3 switches compatible with the 3750?

Console cable for catalyst 5500

I have just acquired 2 catalyst 5500's. I have a Cisco rollover cable that I have used to console into the 1200 series wireless access points and used it on 2 catalyst 2900 xl's, but I am unable to console into the 5500's. Does it require a different type of cable? Or different settings for the hyperterminal session?

Catalyst 5000 and 5505: Same backplane?

Fellow switch folk,
I'm curious about the nature of the backplane in the Catalyst 5000 and 5505. Specifically: Is it the same backplane, with the difference between the two being mainly in the supervisor engine?
To put this another way: I know using a Supervisor III in a 5505 enables 3.6Gb worth of crosspoint backbone fabric. Would the same thing happen if I replaced a Supervisor II in a Cat-5000 (five-slot)chassis with a Supervisor III?

Well, that kind of helped... It showed me the differences between the 5500 series when using the two different supervisor engines.
However, it made no reference at all to the basic 5000 chassis, and it didn't answer my question about the backplane itself at all.

Catalyst 5500, Promiscuous vLan Port - Is it possible?

I am needing to configure a single port on the Catalyst 5500 switch to receive a copy of the packets sent on all the other ports. Currently we have only one vLan, the default one with 192 ports all 10/100.
We would like to be able to accurately monitor our network and the promiscuous LAN seems to be the best solution.
Suggestions for other monitoring methods are very appreciated as well.
I have seen some documentation saying promiscuous is possible, usually on the 4000 or 6000. Nothing I have found is for the 5500 or series.
If anyone can confirm either way that a promiscuous vLan is possible with the 5500 that would be wonderful.

You do not have to create VLAN 2 for configuring SPAN. Your destination port on which you have the sniffer can be in VLAN 1 as well.
Also, the monitoring PC need not have 2 NIC cards. You can enable "inpkts" option which would make this port act like any other port in addition to monitoring.
For example, say you have monitoring PC on port 5/5. The command would would be

Native ATM25 with Catalyst 5500. Need help!

We want to run native ATM25 protocol all the way to a Catalyst 5500 switch. We're going to be using ATM25 and Ethernet line cards. My question is: would there be any problems with this set up. Like MTU size? Can you guys give us advice on with which version of software we would have at least problems. Or if anyone is running or ran this setup alrady we would appreciated heads up on possible problems. We will be testing this in field next week.
Any direclty related links concerning this setup is much appreciated.

Catalyst CCC and Chipset Drivers Collision

Hello All,
My CCC (catalyst control centre) wont load and I think its the chipset drivers and i cannot find the chipset drivers (amd 970 chipset and SB950).
The sequence of events unfolded as follows....
1) I downloaded ati chipset drivers (http://eu.msi.com/service/download/driver-2592.html) and installed them...
*This is the cause of everything?
*Because the drivers are NOT not 900 series chipset or mainboard?
As a consequence of this it kicked the Realtek LAN drivers out...
(something to do with hdmi audio drivers for the hdmi on the graphic card)
2) I reinstalled the realtek drivers
*As a consequence of this it kicked the catalyst ccc drivers out
3) I have tried 12 gazillion times to re-install the catalyst drivers and all attempts fail
I have removed the graphic drivers and reinstalled them again but the driver fails to install
I have tried the amd detection utility and that fails
I have tried the sapphire website ccc utility (12.2 and 12.1 and 11.2) and that fails
The reason for this I suspect is....
Because the chipset drivers are screwed up?

I would assume that the correct route is to use an uninstall.inf to remove the chipset drivers?
if so...
where do i get the uninstall.inf?
if not...
where do i get the ORIGINAL or GENERIC AMD Chipset drivers for the 970a and sb950 chipset?
I dont want to re-install windows,
nor do i want to roll the system back.
Help anyone please?

The Mushkin memory is BLACKLINE model 4x2gb
The graphic card is is in the first pcie slot (nearest cpu)
the audio is onboard Realtek 7.1
I have tried the AMD Autodetect and it takes about 20-30 minutes to install the ctalyst control centre which has FAILED on the last 12 or attempts,
I've benn having this problem for about thelast 10 days and try to address it towards the middle of the day most days by downlloading one or another driver....
I tried to reinstall from the cd but it fails and inside the CCC install package some options (the ones which matter in this case) are not selectable they are already checked and read as follows...
Your xxxxxxxxxxxx driver files re update/latest version and do not need updating.
Which I assume means it wont install those files.
Just a thought...
Wonder if its worth writing to the CCC team directly?

Is Office Home and Business 2013 fully compatible with Sharepoint Online (Office 365)?

My client recently upgraded 3 Windows 7 PCs (2-32 & 1-64-bit OS) from Office 2007 32-bit (which was actually working fine against Exchange/SharePoint Online) to Office Home and Business 2013 (32-bit)
Now, for all 3 PCs, while Office 2013 Word/Excel can open, check out/in, and save SharePoint Online files, there is ALWAYS a 2 minute delay in closing the file which is apparently waiting for the Local Security Authority call to return. This seems
to indicate an issue related to SharePoint security on the client side.

I couldn't find the document mentioned there is any compatibility between Office365 SharePoint online and Office Home and Business 2013 version, I would recommend that you check if the issue could be reproduced on other Win7 machines installed with Office
Home and Business 2013 installed directly instead of upgrading from Office2007, see if issue is related to Office application upgrade.
I also recommend that you post this issue on our dedicated Office365 SharePoint online forum and Office 2013 forum for a better assistance with more experts regarding this issue from the following links.

Are Acrobat 7.0 Standard and Windows 8.1 compatible?

Trying to install Acrobat 7 from cd onto new pc windows 8.1
Gets to the point where it says installing acrobat but installation never progresses
Retired and only really need to use it occasionally now so don't want to buy newer version if can be avoided

In purchasing Win 8.1 (and probably a new computer), you have effectively made some of your software obsolete. If AA 7 installation is successful with Acrobat and Distiller, you will still have to create a work around as the Adobe PDF printer drive and AcroTray are neither compatible with Win 8.1. You might try to install it in XP compatibility mode. The drivers I mentioned will still probably fail.

Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 are compatible with Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit. I have them installed on those operating systems and no problems. My video card is Intel HD Graphics.
But, a major question is what video card will be used? There is a major issue with Premiere Elements 10 users whose computers use a NVIDIA GeForce video card. It is fixed by rolling back the driver to about May 2013. This is a user to user fix. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has offered one. The new firefox 33.1 and 34 are not compatible with my school Blackboard account

I have used Firefox since it was first introduced. I prefer it to MS Explorer. However the new Firefox, 33.1 and 34 are not compatible with my school Blackboard account, so I had to delete Firefox and use Explorer. I would prefer to use Firefox. Is an earlier version (Prior to 33.1) still available?

My advice is to install Firefox Portable ESR to your hard drive for use at that Blackboard website and continue to use Firefox 34 for other purposes. The "portable" version will instal and use a Profile that is totally separate from your regular Firefox installation - so you can have two separate Firefox versions installed without any problems.

I don't think it's possible if you are stuck in recovery mode but I may be wrong...
Since your device qualifies for iOS 8(.1), that is the version that will be downloaded/restored to the iPad.
I do know that you can restore your iPad (from backup & as new) and keep the same iOS version if you restore using the iPad itself under Settings/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings but since you can't access this because your stuck in recovery mode, the point is moot.
Have you tried downloading the update in the middle of the night (2 am or so) where dropouts are much less likely to occur?
It's always possible to take your device in to an Apple Store (make a Genius Bar reservation first) and do the iOS update there in the Apple Store.. I'm sure they will gladly help you out with it and not charge you a thing. The trouble with that would be if you don't have an Apple Store nearby.
