Catalyst/Chromium causes screen to flash wildly then crashes computer.

I'm using catalyst-test-pxp 14.3-1 and chromium 35.0.1916.153-1. I am using 2 monitors. The main one being my laptop's screen (LVDS) to the right and my secondary screen (CRT1) to my left. Previously I had used a single screen configuration, however after reconfiguring xorg.conf with aticonfig, spawning chromium will cause the screen to flash wildly and crash the computer, forcing me to hit the power button and wait for the system to power off. Here are some pictures that show what's happening: http://imgur.com/GidiC8p,0pna75I. Sorry for the poor formatting but I'm using elinks until xorg is fixed.
I understand that using a pastebin is discouraged over using the "code" tags, but I can't paste anything in the environment I'm in right now.

For clarification. I have 2 dedicated radeon cards. This is not a mistake.
I'd really appreciate any help given.
Thanks,
Nia (Dragos240)

I'm going to jump on this dogpile with a "me too" post.
About my setup:  2 year old workstation, Intel Core2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 2600PRO graphics card, all up to date on Windows patches, latest device drivers, etc.
Until now the system was totally stable.  For the past 1-2 weeks, anytime I try to play videos on CNN's website (which uses Flash), my system freezes-- no response from mouse, keyboard, anything.  Only way out is a hard reset.
I've opened the case and checked all connections.  Pulled and re-seated memory, even switched the slots each stick is in.  Pulled and re-seated graphics card.  Cleaned CPU and graphics heatsinks with compressed air.  Verified all fans are working.  Replaced the power supply with a new Corsair 650w.  Ran utilities to verify CPU and GPU temps, and found all to be very good (it's a well cooled case).
I've completely uninstalled all traces of Flash using the Adobe Flash Uninstaller, after killing all but essential processes (to make sure nothing had Flash open).  Then I reinstalled the latest version available today (10 Feb 2011).  Both the ActiveX component for IE8, and the Firefox version, still bring about a system lockup.
The only, and I mean ONLY thing that ever crashes this computer is playing Flash videos, usually from CNN.
It does not matter if I am viewing in IE8 or the latest version of Firefox.  Result is exactly the same, on exactly the same videos, regardless of browser.
If this is truly a device driver issue, then it is ONLY triggered by Flash.  I'm a very busy telecommuter who spends as much as 10-12 hours a day on this machine for both work and recreation.  No other software of any kind causes this PC to lock up, so this is clearly a Flash-triggered problem.

  • Can't open documents - File select screen just flashes and then disappears

In Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard - When I open Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. and then try to open a document from one of these programs, the screen where you would select the file to open just flashes and then disappears. This locks me out of the program because it is waiting for a response from me - I can't even exit the program. I have to go to the Task List and close the program from there. This is a new issue - Have had Creative Suite for a while. Does not happen in Word, Excel, etc. I have already tried removing and reinstalling the software - No change. I have minimized all other windows - Still cannot access the file selection screen.

If you have an LCD monitor, make sure it is running at its maximum resolution. After the dialog disappears, try pressing Alt + Spacebar, then M and see if you can find it on the edge of the screen and move it in by pressing arrow keys, press one a few times, then the opposite to bring it back if it didn't show up.

  • I have lost all icons cannot get them to stay on the screen just flash on then go

i am having trouble getting icons to come up on ipad4 they just flash on then go help please

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

  • Photobucket site and other sites cause Firefox v19 to "freeze" and crash. All the time. Photobucket causes Firefox v19, to slow, then crash.

If you view photos for an extended time, or open a few tabs, Photobucket will cause Firefox to slow down, eventually freeze, then crash. This only started occurring when I updated to Firefox v19.0. This freezing and blanking out of the entire screen image of Firefox will occur when another program, such as Windows mail, is loading at the same time. It also is occurring at random times for no reason. I've never experienced a problem such as this with Firefox or Mozilla, ever. Nothing is preventing this from happening. I have Vista Home Premium, SP2. Dell Inspiron 530s.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove your Photobucket cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help at all?

  • HELP! MacBook Pro won't turn on - loads up to the grey loading screen for a while then crashes., HELP! MacBook Pro won't turn on - loads up to the grey loading screen for a while then crashes.

Was using it fine then I rested my iPad mini on the keys and the screen went black and then came back but then froze for a little bit the audio went then after a bit it turned it self off and when I try and turn it on its loads to the grey loading screen loads for a bit then crashes - please help, I have got very important data on there that I need to access, thank you.
(PS I have booked a genius appointment for 3 days time but really need to use it before then)

No backups? Then I would, were I you, definitely order an inexpensive USB enclosure to try to rescue the files. Most companies in the US ship to the Phillipines, don't they? Where do you usually shop for computer gear? I don't know how much space/speed you really want but Seagate's 1 terabyte SSHD is an economic route to go for the 'feeling' of a SSD. I can also recommend Hitachi and Toshiba drives.
Just make certain that you get the right form factor - 2.5" x 9.5mm. You can get drives a bit thinner and a bit thicker, but I would stay close to that thickness range at any rate.
    Good luck,

  • Flash content hard crashes computer, no matter what I do

I have gone to the end of the earth to find a solution to this problem and I cannot figure it out.
    I've tried older video drivers(nvidia, gtx460), I've tried newest, a little older.
I've tried as many different versions of Flash player I could find
Both combinations of flash player and video driver have been interchanged with more combinations than a Yahtzee dice game.
Computer build is less than a year old.
This crash was happening for a couple weeks very intermittently, then it got worse, then one of the lockups CAUSED BY FLASH to caused my operating system to become corrupt. THEN, even after a full format and reinstall, FLASH STILL CRASHED MY COMPUTER.
Every single piece of computer hardware has been stress tested and temperature monitored.
New PSU was installed (corsair hx750)
    Tried a different Graphics card.
Nothing. And I mean NOTHING. Stops my computer from hard crashing from flash content(videos mostly).
It causes either a complete powerdown INSTANTLY, then my computer restarts. OR the other crash it does is complete LOCKUP with a horrible sounding static sound loop.
    Please help!

All I can really say about that is that you're the only person I'm seeing complaining of these systems.  With 1.2 billion users, we'd be hearing about it if Flash was somehow magically able to cause this through normal operation (it's not).  The fact that your machine is powering off points to a hardware problem.
If you feel that you've exhausted your troubleshooting efforts there and are able to use the computer successfully without Flash Player installed, I'd recommend uninstalling:
    Uninstall Flash Player | Windows
Alternatively, if you have a sound card that isn't built onto the motherboard chipsets, you might yank it and see if your system stability improves, since it sounds like you've done that with the video card already.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 having a problem with display driver then crashes computer

Since the Photoshop update in October most of the time when I open Photoshop CC 2014, either my computer crashes with the driver state power failure or the program is able to boot and provide an error message involving a problem with the display driver and then my computer crashes with the driver state power failure. I did not have this problem until the update in October. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I am using Windows 8.1 64-bit
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.40GHz processor
    12.0 GB of RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860m

You need to update your video driver from the website of the manufacturer of your video card.  You cannot rely on Windows Update or Microsoft, which typically have outdated drivers.

  • ITunes Causing Screen To Flash

I have a problem that seems to be unique. Ever since installing the new iTunes, 7.3, whenever I launch iTunes, the screen begins to flash. It flashes off and on, and sometimes it just fades a bit and then comes back. It is almost as if the screen is refreshing over and over again. This is continuous as long as iTunes is open. It is also fully functional, just hard to track to the right buttons with it flashing. I am having absolutely no other screen problems other than this one. As soon as I close iTunes, everything is fine. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, and that did not help. Has anyone heard of this problem? Thanks for any help.

Sorry it took so long to reply. While attemptng to create a new profile, my hard drive crashed. It was DOA, so I have installed a new one, and iTunes seems to be fine now. Maybe it was the hard drive going bad that caused the problem all along. It will be impossible to know now. Anyway, thanks for the reply, and help. If I have any more problems, I'll know where to come!

  • Why does my screen keep flashing and then turn black when I use the marquee tool?

When I bring up a photo to work on and i try to draw circle or square with the Marquee tool my screen flashes black and then stays black until I use the move tool?

This issue is associated with your graphics driver not being compatible with PS' hardware acceleration. Updating the driver if possible would be advisable, otherwise turn off OpenGL drawing under Preferences --> Performance.

  • Complicated Mask Causes Motion 3 to Slow then Crash

I have a very frustrating problem with Motion 3. I'm rotoscoping a person in a clip from FCP. Essentially, I'm making him color and the background B&W. Making the mask went fine and the first few frames keyframing were also fine. After a couple of minutes though, moving a control point became difficult. There was a noticable pause from the time when I clicked and dragged to the time when the control point actually moved. I have about 50 or so control points so the slowdown causes me to spend several minutes on each frame and since the person is moving, I have to keyframe EVERY frame over a several second clip.
After a few minutes of slowdown, Motion will crash on me. Sometimes there's a hint that it's about to crash (I'll move the mask, but the opaque part of the mask won't move to reflect the new position of the control points), sometimes it just shuts off. I've lost a TON of time restarting. Once restarted however, everything works great and the control points move instantly for a couple of keyframed frames, and then it starts slowing down again.
It kinda feels like the RAM on my system is just being held up until I run out and then the program crashes. Here are as many details as I can think of to offer.
    Motion 3.0.2
Project Cache is set to 80% total memory
    No other programs running.
Clips are DV/NTSC self-contained QT files exported from FCP
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 vram

    Hi guys
I've been making some titles and splash screens for a film I am making in Motion 3 and hit a brick wall when I started getting graphics card freezes and total system meltdowns. My MacBook has always been fine with motion and I depressingly attributed it to a bug when using extensive and complex masks (the composition contains loads of them) and multi-layered photoshop and illustrator media. I was convinced it wasn't my graphics card as everything else it does is fine. The nature of the comp meant I couldn't split the masks up and when I tried it crashed anyway.
It was then after persevering for a week that I managed to fix the problem. This might not be the case with you guys - I'm sure you have more idea than me, but I changed the project properties to an 8bit float and not a 32 bit one. I don't think I ever made a switch to 32bit and thought it was weird that it was 32bit in the Motion 3 file. After switching back to 8 the file runs really smoothly again without any problems and handles the masks as well as I was used to in Motion 2. I hope this helps anyone with the same problem in the future, I know it was a real pain dealing with the crashes and a really simple fix.

  • Email screen is blank and then crashes

When I launch email on my iPhone it shows a blank screen and then just closes. Any hints? Deleted my accounts and added again. I also have restarted and rebooted my phone.

Try stopping the Mail app, then reset your phone: double-tap the home button, locate the Mail app at the bottom (swiping if necessary), tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap the minus sign to close it.  Now reset your phone: hold the on/off and home buttons until your see the Apple logo (ignore the off slider that appears first), then release.
If the problem still persists, you will probably need to restore your phone.  Follow this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414, backing up your phone at step 6, and restoring from this backup at the end.  If this doesn't fix it you will have to repeat the process, but restore it as a new iPhone.

  • Code shows on the left on computer screen when starting up then the computer restarts

I was using my macbook pro 13" and my safari unexpectedly closed from there my laptop went off and restarted, when it started up, the progress bar never finished loading before it went off again, this happened twice and after that when my laptop started it showed some kind of code on the left side of the startup page where the grey apple sign is and would afterwards go off and repeat the same thing. I tried booting it into safe mode but it only refused and would do the whole code and restarting thing. Before this my laptop had a problem in which it didn't start up and showed a dim light when charging, I fixed it by opening up the back to unplug and plug the battery connector it was working fine for two days and started acting like this just this evening. I haven't had this computer for up to a year and haven't had any problems with it, I haven't dropped it or spilled anything on it before, it just started acting up and I don't know why. If anyone has a solution to what I can do to fix my laptop please share. Thanks.

To save files you have to install the OS on another drive, like an external HD, and then try to copy or migrate files from the installed HD. Then yo can try to format the installed HD and reinstall the OS.
However, the install HD may not be able to be formatted and you may have to replace it.

  • Flash froze and crashed computer

I was playing a flash-based game when the game completely locked up my computer, and the only possible solution was to do a hard reboot (pressing and holding the power key). I waited and then restarted, but the screen had vertical and horizontal pixelated lines running through it all, and it froze several times during the startup process. The computer restarted itself several times, but it kept freezing while still in the grey screen.
I tried starting it in safe mode, but I got the same results. An attempt to run from the Lion restore drive didn't work, either. I reset the SMC and PRAM, and while resetting the PRAM changed the nature of the lines on the screen (narrowed them down), it didn't help, either.
I finally got it to boot up, only to have it crash again when I attempted to watch a game on MLB.tv, which uses a Flash player. I have uninstalled and re-installed Flash, to no effect.
All of this started after the latest software update from Apple. My data is backed up, but not through Time Machine.
I have a 2008 16" MBP running the most updated version of Lion.

You have a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • Flash Player keeps crashing computer

Hello, I am new at this forums. Basically in the last few weeks my computer started crashing when I access some web sites that uses flash player, could be and add or video, it has been happening randomly!!
I get the blue screen, and I am afraid if it keeps happening it might damage my system
I am using Windows XP SP3, I use IE8, I always install the latest flash player (now I have 11.7.700.169)
Updated my video driver...I tried disabling and enabling the accelerator, but no change.
After the computer recover from the blue screen I get a message that windows recovered from a serious problem with those lines:
    BCCode : 1000008e     BCP1 : E0000001     BCP2 : B8390925     BCP3 : A025D740
    BCP4 : 00000000     OSVer : 5_1_2600     SP : 3_0     Product : 256_1
Please help me as this problem is affecting my work and slowing me down not mentioning the anxiety.
I heard it's a problem from Flash Player, but I was hoping the latest update will fix, well it didn't

Am I the only one with this problem?? I know that FP was causing this crashes and their latest release was supposed to fix it.
At least somebody let me know that I am not the only one!!

  • Pocketmac 4 - synced once then crashed computer

Got the Blackberry Pearl yesterday, came home and d/l Pocketmac 4. Synced address book and iCal just fine. Tried to install an app and no go, had to force quit PM and disconnect the BB several times. Finally gave up and started looking on the web and then the finder stopped responding. I could apple-tab to other open apps, but only iChat worked. I did a force reboot using the power button and everything is fine until the finder is to finish loading and it just sits there, unresponsive. Tried to start in safe mode and it churnned away and the fan came on full blast.
Be Warned BB users - PM is no iSync....
    Any ideas where to start?
