Catalyst & HDMI audio: problem when turning TV off

Hi everyone,
I've got two PCs with AMD E-350 FPU, one is a laptop running Windows 7 and the other is a nettop running Arch Linux (using Catalyst as a driver for the GPU). On both of them, I'm experiencing a similar problem with sound:
When turning on the computer and the TV, everything works just fine, including sound. However, if I turn off the TV (without disconnecting the HDMI cable) the following happens:
Arch: no sound anymore, even if I turn the TV back on. No visible changes in alsamixer.
Windows: sound through internal speakers. ATI HDMI sound device now shows up as 'Disconnected', even if I turn the TV back on.
Disconnecting the HDMI cable and then inserting it back (while the TV is on again) fixes the problem on both computer, and so does rebooting the computer.
However, even though this seems to not be a Linux-related problem (being etiher a problem with TV's firmware or ATI GPU), I wonder if anyone knows of a more elegant (preferably software, of course ) solution than reconnecting the cable each time I want to turn off my TV and then turn it back on?

I have the same issue in Windows. If I turn-off the TV and turn it back on, there is no sound. Because I have no other sound devices (disabled the others in BIOS setup), the speaker icon shows a red "x". The playback devices screen says HDMI is "unplugged." I have to restart the system or unplug/reconnect the HDMI cord to get sound to come back.

    Try reset
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
If no joy, restore backup using iTunes.
Finally last attempt, rsetore as new and sync content back manually.

  • My apple Tv has audio problems when streaming from my NAS server.

My Apple TV has audio problems when streaming from my NAS server or computer and even internet. I can hear the click sound it makes when you click on the icons, but when the movie starts there is no audio. This even happens when using XBMC. I have HMDI directly to my TV suing Apple TV 2. I have tried resetting, turning off both TV and Apple TV, and changing the HDMI cable. It is driving me nuts.

  • Problem when turn on mini Ipad.

I have problem when turn on mini ipad. I have to slice the unlock after it flashing 3 times and not after flashing5 times!!
After the unlock flashing 5 times it will turn off the screen and I have to push any button on my ipad mini to activate the screen to turn on again every time!
Do I have to set something in setting to avoid this situation? It's boring to count the flashing of the unlock 3 times to slice it!!!
My iOS version is already updated but the problem still as the same since I got it on December 2012

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.
    Make a Genius Bar Reservation

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Audio problem when importing video files.

    Hello everyone,
I just started using FCP X a few days ago for a university project and I seem to encounter an audio problem when importing videos in .mp4, .mov format or via the import from camera option.
Indeed I need to import videos in .mp4 and .mov format into FCP X. The import in itself is normal I can see my videos into the events/clips library and if I play them from the library I can hear the sound quite perfectly.
However, when I want to edit my videos and put it in the timeline, there is no audio. As a result I started to think that my videos could be the problem so I tried the option "import from camera" option using the Isight camera of my macbook pro but the same things happened. I could hear the sound from the events/clips library but not from the timeline (I can't see any audiowaves in the timeline).
I found a solution using quicktime and extracting the audio of the video in .m4a then importing the videos files and the audi files corresponding but it's a long process and a waste of time  as FCP X should be able to import the audio of my video into the timeline directly. Especially if it can read it from events/clips library.
I hope I explained myself clearly and you could help me resolve my problem.
    Cheers
    Christophe
    PS: I'm using FCP X version 10.0

    Update to 10.0.5.
You have an incorrect setting when you edit. Try trashing your preferences. Post screen shots of your timeline and toolbar.

  • Select HDMI audio output when headphone connectted

In Snow Leopard, I can connect my headphone to Mac Mini, and select HDMI audio output when I want sound from monitor, or select headphone.
But in Lion, I can not select HDMI when headphone is connectted, so I have to plug/unplug headphone very often, quite anoyying...
How can I disable this feature?
    Thanks.

I've just started a thread regarding this exact issue, but in Mountain Lion.  Did you ever solve it?  Or, if you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, do you still experience it?
EDIT: Almost exactly 1 year later you get a response. lol.

  • N78: disable sounds when turning on/off phone.

Hi, is there a way to disable sounds when turning on/off phone, even when on normal profile?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

yes, turned "Warning Tones: off" "Keypad Tones: off" This would make the starting up "SILENT" and when you turning the phone off it will also be "SILENT". This can be done to any Profile of your liking. I put mine to "New Profile" and use that profile as my daily profile.
Hope this help you bud. If it does help please Kidou! me

  • IMac to TV (HDMI) : Ghost display when TV is off

    Hi,
I'm using my Sony TV (40BX420) as my secondary display for my iMac 27", connected via
MiniDisplay Adapter+HDMI Cable.   When connected everything works fine, the
audio & picture appears normally.  I use this setup to watch movies on my bigger screen.
I always keep the hdmi cables physically connected between the TV & iMac (which is always on).
The problem is when I switch the input on the TV from HMDI to Antenna (to see the TV channels), the
hdmi appears active to my iMac, and the audio & windows which was getting displayed on the TV, does
    not reappear on my iMac.
The only solution to my problem is to physically disconnected the hdmi cable when I do
not want to watch the computer content on the TV.
I'd an older Toshiba TV, when I connect the same hdmi cable to this tv.  As soon as I change the input
on the TV to HDMI, the iMac responds, with activating dual monitor, when the change the input, or switch
the TV off (standby) the imac goes back to single display mode.
I call sony, their tech support is horrible, they told me it a feature of their TV, it keep the HDMI active in standby mode.
I tested this buy shutting down the power on the TV, but the iMac was still behaving as if connected and I've a ghost display
    on the TV.
Please let me how can I solve this issue.   They may quite a few of you who is connecting their iMac to TV

    hi there,
    have you solve this problem?
Because I have had this issue also, still looking for the solution.

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 HDMI audio problem

    Hello,
I have problem sound over HDMI with my MBP late 2013 13'' model A1502 on Windows 7 with Bootcamp.
I've installed Windows following Bootcamp wizard from mac and creating bootable WIN7 usb with all support drivers on it. After this I've noticed that there is no sound on my tv when i connect it to my MBP. I've searched a bit more about this problem and I found that the latest graphics drivers might solve this problem so I've updated Intel® Iris™ Graphics 5100 directly from Intel's official web page and after the restart voila I have sound to my TV.
After some time I was configuring my resolutions and I unplugged the HDMI cable and then I put it back again and the sound stopped. At first I was thinking that it is something with the default audio device settings and when I went into the control panel audio settings I've noticed that the HDMI audio device is missing.
I've thinkered a bit and found out that when I unplug the hdmi cable in device manager's "Sound, video and game controllers" the Intel(R) Display Audio is removed from the list but when i put back the HDMI cable it dosent appear in that list. Instead of that in section System devices the High Definition Audio Controller have warning sign and have the following error message: This device cannot start. (Code 10).
You can check it on this image below:
However, when I reboot the MBP with the HDMI from my TV pluged into it it is all OK. So my guess is that it may be some driver service problem or some compatibillity problem with Cirrus Logic CS4208 (AB 93) audio controller. Currently it is working like this but It's very annoying to reboot each time when I wan't to connect it to my TV...
Any suggestions how to fix this problem are welcomed.
    Thanks

reformat and zero your partition or chkdsk
make sure Windows has 15GB or more free space to work with
I have Macs and PCs all runnng 7 and even 8.
Maybe your iMac hard drive or even if SSD is where the fault lies.

  • [SOLVED] ATI HDMI audio fails when playing videos... fine otherwise.

On a fresh install of Arch Linux, despite being an amateur at best. I'm using ATI HDMI audio using the open source driver, on GNOME 3. I'm switching to Catalyst after posting this to see if that might help, somehow.
After adding the radeon.audio=1 to the bootloader, audio on the system began working just fine as long as I restricted myself to audacious (haven't tried another audio player) or the system sound tests. When I try to use VLC, or mplayer2 for that matter, not only does it not play the audio associated with the video but NO audio will pass through the system at all. I have tried changing the audio source in VLC, although default should work... nothing works. Changing the audio in VLC will cause the system's audio to max out. Changing it back to something else doesn't help, but I can change the volume after closing the video programs, and after a few clicks it will go back to the "bloop" sound that confirms volume changes. Everything works fine again.
I have been at this all day and I am at wit's end. My google searches are getting way too long to be of any help. Any pointers or obvious things that I've missed in my caffeine haze would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Audio Problems when burning

I have tried making disc image, burning disc and the audio will pause for second several times in the play back. It does not do it when playing back in iDVD.
The slide show was started in iPhoto and sent to iDVD. I have started over several times and still same issue. Makes a bad impression and is really not useable for presentation.
I have 30 gigs free space, changed settings to Professional encoding and still same issue. I have no open apps, changed all energy settings and screen saver to never.
Any ideas, I am fresh out, never had this problem with previous version.
    Frustrated

    Andy,
This question is really in the wrong place - this is the iDVD '08 forum and not the iDVD 5 forum.
From the description of your problem using Toast, it sounds like you didn't actually export a DV video movie out of iMovie.
Export a DV video movie out of iMovie (it will run 13 GB per hour) and play it back with the QuickTime Player to see if the audio settings you made are really there. If this movie plays OK, you can bring IT into iDVD or Toast for turning it into a DVD.
If the DV video movie you created STILL has audio problems in the QuickTime Player, ask you question about THAT issue in the correct iMovie forum.

  • IMovie audio problems when burning in Toast 6

    Hi,
i've tried to burn an imovie project in idvd 5 but i get 'the error #-1 was reported' like most people have been and i've tried loads of things suggested to fix it with no joy.
I then sent the imovie project to toast titanium 6 where it burned fine. However, when i watched it i noticed that although toast had picked up all the audio (both dv audio and aiff), it did not pick up all the volume adjustments during the movie. how annoying! for example: i have an aiff clip that fades into a movie clip with the sound gradually going down but Toast picks up the sound staying at the same level. this also happens with volume adjustments in a DV file.
Any suggestions why this happens / how i can fix it?
    Cheers,
    Andy

  • Why doesn't Aperture rembmer thumbnail size when turning on/off viewer?

I noticed that when I turn on/off the viewer by pressing V, the thumbnail in the browser will go back to the smallest size. Do I have a corrupted preference file or something like that?
Am I the only one experiencing this annoying behavior?
    Thanks for any input.
    Chris

    Thanks for these suggestions.
I have added the sites to the trusted sites in IE and that didn't help.
Things are a bit more complicated with the global security settings of the flash player. When I click your link, I see the note (Note: The Settings Manager that you see above is not an image; it is the actual Settings Manager itself.), but no settings manager, so I cannot click any tabs. I can rightclick to go to global settings, but I can find no global security settings. A complicating factor is that I'm located in Poland and even though the installer correctly notes that I'm running an English language Windows system, it will only install flash player in Polish - and translations are usually not so good. So I have an "advanced" tab in the settings manager and I added my secure sites to the trusted sites, even though it says this is for programmers only. Anyway - this didn't help either.
Please help, as this problem has cut me off from my bank account!

  • Audio problem when running Win XP Pro SP3

I have a problem when running Windows XP SP3 on my MacBook. Every minute or so, and this happens consistently, the music would be played in a slow-motion mode, and after a few seconds return to normal speed. I have exchanged for another MacBook, and I am having the exact same problem. I have all the drivers installed properly, and have tried both iTunes and WMP. This even happens when I am gaming or watching YouTube.
The problem does not exist when I'm running Mac OS X.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

After spending a few hours googling around I finally found the solution to the problem. At first I thought it was something wrong with my Windows XP Pro, but apparently people running Vista were having the same problem.
I installed Vista myself and indeed was having the same problem.
The problem apparently is a clash between the sound card and the WiFi card on the MacBook. If you turn off your WiFi, you would not get the occasional adio/video slowdown.
The solution was actually quite simple, force-install the 5.x Broadcom 802.11n driver, and voila, problem taken care of.

  • Audio mute keeps turning on & off

    Hello,
The audio mute function on my iMac keeps turning on & off over and over.
the onscreen icon appears on the screen indicating the audio is full then it fades away, then a second later the onscreen icon appears again indicating the audio is mute then it fades away over and over.
I can't get it to stop. I have repaired permissions and also restarted the computer. disconnected the keyboard and reconnected it.

After an hour of checking everything I found the problem.
I have a new iMac with which I am using the Logitech MX700 cordless mouse but instead of using the cordless keyboard I'm using the apple keyboard that came with the iMac.
I had placed the cordless Logitech MX700 across the room on a shelf and forgot about it. Then last night one of my family members placed some heavy paper work on top of the keyboard.
The heavy paperwork activated the keyboard from across the room and the audio mute on and off was the dominant signal from the keyboard.
    Arrgggh!
