Catalyst Uplink cable type

Hi We have a Cisco 3750 catalyst switch acting as L3 core with GLC-T= 1000BASE-T SFP modules. We have 3560 access switches with GLC-T= 1000BASE-T SFP modules.
What kind of Cat 5(or 6)cables we need to use to connect the access switch to the core using GLC-T= modules??
Usually we use cross cables to connect between switches.
Will straight cables also work???

Hello,
in addition to the other post, check if your ports support the ´mdix auto´ command, which enables the ports to automatically detect a straight or crossover cable, hence making it insignificant which one you use.
Check this info from CCO:
You can use the mdix auto interface configuration command in the CLI to enable the automatic medium-dependent interface crossover (Auto-MDIX) feature. When the Auto-MDIX feature is enabled, the switch detects the required cable type for copper Ethernet connections and configures the interfaces accordingly. Therefore, you can use either a crossover or a straight-through cable for connections to a copper 10/100, 10/100/1000, or 1000BASE-T SFP module port on the switch, regardless of the type of device on the other end of the connection.
The Auto-MDIX feature is enabled by default on switches running Cisco IOS Release 12.2(18)SE or later. For releases between Cisco IOS Release 12.1(14)EA1 and 12.2(18)SE, the Auto-MDIX feature is disabled by default. For configuration information for this feature, see the switch software configuration guide or the switch command reference.

  • Can you use Apple TV together with an add-on cable-type box?

We're thinking of buying Apple TV for our 75 yr. old parents for Christmas, but my father inlaw currently pays extra to view live soccer using some add-on cable-type box (sorry, no idea what to call the box).  We do not live in the same city as them, so checking out their current set-up before Christmas isn't possible.
Will the two boxes conflict and could we run into issues with too few ports when we try to set it up?
I'm assuming there will only be one hdmi port on the television (but then, I don't own a TV. I could easily be wrong). Will both the Apple and the cable boxes each require their own hdmi cables going into the television?
Maybe the Apple TV will negate the need for the other box altogether. e.g., What if we bought them a major soccer league subscription for watching live soccer?
Thanks so much for any advice!  If it weren't for the soccer issue, we would buy the Apple TV right away.
    Sandra

Thanks so much, WC!  Glad to know they likely have more than one HDMI port (they just purchased the TV this past summer).
Maybe the add-on box to which I referred would be some form of router.  Its purpose is so they can watch RAI here in Canada.  His soccer games are on RAI (for which he needs the router-ish-thingy) and also Telelatino (which he can get through his cable TV provider).  If he could no longer watch RAI, then he would simply not use the Apple TV gift, making it a dumb purchase on our parts.
So, I just need some reassurance that he will still be able to attach this router box to his TV and also attach the Apple TV, or confirmation that he will no longer need that box if he has Apple TV.  I just don't know enough about that box to ask the right questions.
Again, thanks so much.  I'm not sure where else to turn to find out.

  • Fiber Optic cable types

    Hello
What are the differences between the following cable types. What does µ and mm 50mm or 62 etc 125µ values determine? Where to use which?
    Dorax 8 Core MM 50/125µ F/O
    DR-5613-12 Dorax 12 Core MM 62.5/125µ F/O
    DR-5613-24 Dorax 24 Core MM 62.5/125µ F/O
    DR-5613-4 Dorax 4 Core MM 62.5/125µ F/O
    DR-5613-8 Dorax 8 Core MM 62.5/125µ F/O
    12 Core SM 9/125µ F/O
    Dorax 24 Core SM 9/125µ F/O
    DR-5913-4 Dorax 4 Core SM 9/125µ F/O
    DR-5913-8 Dorax 8 Core SM 9/125µ F/O
    Thanks

Typically, the fiber ends are terminated into a patch panel, using SC or LC connectors. Then jumpers attached to the patch panel to the equipment.
A pigtail is just a fiber with one enter terminated with a connector and the other end a bare fiber. You can splice (fusion or mechanical) the pigtails to the fiber cable ends and install them in a patch panel.
It is difficult to install connectors on singlemode fibers so installers purchase factory made pigtails or they purchase preterminated patch panels to terminate (connectorize) the fiber.
Connectors can be attached to multimode fiber in the field using polishing equipment or special mechanical connectors (depending on the volume of connectors).
There are all sorts pre-terminated products (cables, connector modules, patch panels, etc) on the market that reduce the need for the user to field terminate the fiber ends.
I've attached a couple of links, one for product and one for fiber basics.
    Enjoy!

  • Telepresence CTS-1000 optional presentation display cable type

I am installing the CTS-1000 with the optional 22'' external LCD display. The cabling guides have the picture showing that the there is an HDMI connection on the codec showing the Auxiliary Video Out, but with the NEC Display there is not a HDMI connection just a DVI.
My question is, that I am thinking that I need to purchase a DVI-Male to a HDMI-Male, is this accurate thinking? I just want to make sure I make the correct purchase.

    Hi,
You should be able to get things to work with the HDMI to DVI cable. Both the formats are very similar with one small difference. i.e. HDMI can carry audio as well as video, DVI doesn't.
So you should be able to hook your projector with the CTS using the HDMI to DVI cable. As for the male/female, it depends on what connects you have on the projector. Most likely the projector has a DVI female so the cable you will need is HDMI to DVI male.
    Thanks,

  • Imac to MBA file transfer and cable type?

transferring files from imac 2011 macbook air 2012. What cable do i need and what is the best method? MBA has thunderbolt and imac has fire port.

You need to backup the iMac using Time Machine or create a bootable clone using either Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner. You will need an external HD to do this, you should have been backing up anyway and should consider yourself incredibly lucky you haven't lost any data. Backup isn't something that should be done it's somethat that MUST be done. You have lots of valuable data on your computer (music, photos, movies, financial information etc...) and without a backup plan you risk losing it completely if your computer has a HD crash!!!!!!!
Before you do anything else get yourself and external HD and backup your computer!! You should buy 2 EHD's one for the iMac and another for the new MBA.

  • Mixing cable types in same network.

If the cables are short it is on the 'nice to have but no need to' list.
In longer lengths (hundreds of feet) you can tell a difference between 5e and 6.
But again if it is for Patching / short connections it should make no difference really.
Again, it's nice to have but there is no need to.

It was always my understanding that you could mix cat5E, cat6X, etc with no issue even on the same switch. I have been troubleshooting some random issues in an SMB network. Existing cable is cat5E patch cables owner just drilled holes in the floor and ran them through holes in the floor. In an expansion, I ran cat6 cable (monoprice cable, jacks, trendnet patch panel all cat6 rated.)
I mentioned it to an I.T friend and she seemed to think that all the cables had to have matching rating. Said at a prior job like 10 yrs ago they replaced cat5E with cat6. I said I didn't believe that mattered, and it was probly a futureproofing. It was also a military base so I said they probly had some kind of use or lose funding so they just did the entire thing. Then she was like could be I know some years we were retiring like one year old computers.

  • Uplink (Cable connections and configuration)

i am not that much familiar but i can do little bit, actually i am confused here how to connect UTP cables and how to configure Trunk.
there is attach jpg file for clear scenario
    i have 4 Switches cisco 2960-S series
    3 switches 48 Ports
    1 switch    24 Ports
i want to up-link all 4 switches and configure trunk, so that all switches act like a one switch
i want steps to do it.
    thanking you for your help!

To achieve your objective, you would need to configure a 'stack', which you can do with your switches (this is what the 'S' denotes)
There are special cables that are required to do this, if you look at the back of the switch you will see the interface.

  • What cable type for connecting with gigabit port

What kind of lan cable that I should use for connecting with gigabit port from Time Capsule to get the fastest transfer rate. And what is the maximum rate MB/sec that could be?

You can use CAT5 or CAT6.
    max transfer rate is:
Fast Ethernet has a theoretical speed of 100 Mbits/sec (12 MB/sec), while Gigabit Ethernet has a theoretical speed of 1000 Mbits/sec (120 MB/sec). That suggests a double speed advantage of Gigabit Ethernet over USB (60 MB/sec), but neither protocol hits its maximum. In reality, a typical USB connected disk is roughly equal to or lesser than the throughput of a shared drive attached over a Gigabit Ethernet network.
    Over wireless network:
    - 802.11b has a theoretical speed maximum of 11 Mbits/sec with a typical transfer rate of around 4.5 Mbits/sec (0.5 MB/sec) with an ideal signal.
    - 802.11g has a theoretical speed maximum of 54 Mbits/sec, with a typical transfer rate of around 23 Mbits/sec (2.5 MB/sec) with an ideal signal.
    - 802.11n has a theoretical speed maximum of 300 Mbits/sec, with a typical transfer rate of around 74 Mbits/sec (9.25 MB/sec) with an ideal signal.

  • Cable type

    Hi guys,
I have a serial interface on 7206 and want to connect with to a CSU/DSU which has a RJ.45 male.I need to know what cable to use.I tried using V.35 male DTE cisco cable but doesn't work.Need something that will terminate to female RJ.45 to connect to CSU male.Kindly let me know whats the best cable to use.
    Thanks.

You need a CSU/DSU of some sort. The patch panel RJ-48 is an extension of the smartjack. The connection on the serial port is serial, however it does not have the built-in CSU/DSU. You can either buy a new serial card (very exspensive in 7200) that has a build-in CSU/DSU or buy an external CSU/DSU and the appropriate cable to connect the CSU/DSU to the router. Here's a link to a CSU/DSU.

There's a picture that should help clarify. You will still need the cable that I mentioned above.

  • Seeking what type & info for connector cable for W500 Digital or non-Digital Displayport to HDMI

    Hello,  I have purchased and waiting arrival of:   Thinkpad W500 T9400 64Bit   4061-BV3  # xx-xxxxx  Windows 7 Prof.
I'm not sure if the port is Digital or non-digital.    I think the Lenovo site specs don't say "digital".  But a review on internet talks about it being digital.  Here is link to that.   You scroll down page for photo of ports.

Anyone know what cable I need to get?
I want to watch movie played from laptop onto my tv.   TV might be HD, but I don't care how movie comes up on screen, just so I can watch it.   What would be cable type to get?   I see that startech.com  sells these things.
Also, I see lots talk here about Audio.  If audio doesn't come through the TV, will it play through laptop?
    Many thanks!

  • Maximum Cable Length

This might be a stupid question, but... Is there a limit in cable length, beyond which Airport Express is unable to deliver a strong enough signal. My cable is not that long, maybe only 15 meters or something like that.
I have Airport Express (Gigabit Ethernet) and since I'm renovating my house, I had to move AEP and computers from one room to another (with one room in between). ADSL modem stayed in the room, only AEP and computers were moved.
As I did so, my internet connection (cabled trough AEP and/or wireless) became extremly slow and unstable, uploading only few bytes per second (it took half an hour to upload 300kb file).
    Scenario 1 (extremly slow):
ADSL modem --15m--> AEP --> Desktop
Then I moved AEP back, and connected desktop computer in the new room, but desktop computer is unable to connect (limited or no connectivity)
    Scenario 2 (no connectivity):
ADSL modem --> AEP --15m--> Desktop
But, if I connect my desktop directly to ADSL modem, everything works just fine (but of course, I don't have wireless).
    Scenario 3 (works fine):
    ADSL modem --15m--> Desktop
My ADSL modem is able to auto-negotiate cable type (CrossOver or normal), so I don't think wrong cable installations might be a problem....

Hello PetLj. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is there a limit in cable length, beyond which Airport Express is unable to deliver a strong enough signal.
The maximum CAT-5 Ethernet cable length would be 100m. However, cable length and wireless strength are not directly related.
However, it is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your AirPort Express from providing a good clean signal to wireless clients.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
    For Macs:
    o KisMAC
    o MacStumbler
    o iStumbler, or
    o IPNetMonitorX
    For PCs:
    o NetStumbler
    o WiFi Hopper
    o WiFi Owl
    o WiFi Manager

  • E65 won't connect via USB Cable

    Hello to you all...
I just got my new Nokia E65 and I couldn't be happier with it. Fantastic phone.
However I can't connect it to my PC (Windows XP SP2) via the USB Cable...it just won't recognize it. I installed PC Suite with the latest cable drivers and nothing happens. When I connect the cable to the phone it asks if I want to use "data transfer" or "pc Suite" mode, but neither of them work.
I'm able to connect to PC Suite via infrared, and that works fine. But I want to update my firmware and software updater only works via usb cable.
Any ideas on what to to?

more info needed, suite version, cable type, what is visible in pc device manager when you connect phone, what is visible in phone screen when you connct cable, etc.

  • Where could I get a Usb 2.0 Cable for my Zen Mi

And If I get one will it still charge my zen micro off the computer?

Yes you can get them. As this is a worldwide forum the names of electronic stores may not exist in your country. I would say just check an electronics store in your area. The Zen Micro needs a Mini-USB cable type cable to connect to the computer. This cable is used in hundreds of products from MP3 players to digital cameras and cell phones, it shouldn't be hard to find. And when you do get one you will be able to charge it off your computer.
