Catch 22 after Win7 upgrade from Vista (no way to install Boot Camp)

I've seen other posts about this but no answers, so I'll keep this
I had Vista Home Premium running in a Boot Camp partition on my black MB 2.0GHz with Snow Leopard, although I only used Fusion and not Boot Camp for Windows. (The Boot Camp partition dated back to the program's beta, which I ran on Tiger. I skipped Leopard.) I replaced the hard drive with a larger model -- thank you CCC and WinClone --, upgraded to Win7 Home Premium and thought I'd try getting Boot Camp running.
The Snow Leopard install DVD has a Boot Camp 3.0 installer that refuses to run on Win 7. (The error message that I get is, "Boot Camp requires that your computer is running Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.") And the Boot Camp 3.1 Updater is, well, an updater that wants to see Boot Camp 3.0. Doesn't seem to be any way forward!
I've seen it recommended to try a Boot Camp 2.1 installer (seems like a long shot, but has anyone tried it?) or to run the Boot Camp 3.0 installer in Vista compatibility mode (reported not to work).
It doesn't feel worth it to re-image the MacBook's Boot Camp partition to Vista using my WinClone backup, then install Boot Camp 3.0, then do the Win 7 upgrade again, and then run the Boot Camp 3.1 updater. Not when Fusion is so good. It took me several iterations of the restore-and-upgrade business with Boot Camp Assistant and WinClone to get to this point and I'm not eager to repeat it. It's not hard, just tedious. It does seem likely that that upgrade path would work, however. Practic makes perfect.
Thoughts?

And just one more thing... I'm remembering now that when I started up the Win7 install, I got a warning that Boot Camp wouldn't work after the upgrade. I don't know which version that would have been. I went ahead with the upgrade anyway. Knowing now how that worked out, I can see that I probably zigged where I should have zagged. But I remember thinking at the time that my options were to cancel the upgrade, uninstall Boot Camp and then try the upgrade again. It didn't occur to me to upgrade to the 3.1 version of Boot Camp because I thought that was the Win7 compatible version, and I was still on Vista at that point.
Maybe all this verbiage will help someone else avoid this situation!

Try installing the Vista driver from your notebook's support and driver page and see if that fixes the issue.

  • ITunes Not Working After Windows Upgrade from Vista to 7

I recently upgraded a laptop from Vista to 7.  iTunes 7.x was installed before the upgrade.  As soon as Windows 7 was insatlled I upgraded to the lates version of iTunes(10.x).  After the upgrade I had some issue where I was getting an error about artwork and iTunes would not open.  I renamed the artwork folder to old and then I was able to get into iTunes.  The next problem that I am running in to is that any time I click on a task such as find music iTunes stops responding and crashes.  I've tried new config files, completely uninstalling and reinstalling, clean booting, etc. with no luck.  Anyone have any suggestions?

I've been working on this issue for 2 days with no luck.  Still looking for a solution if anyone has one.  Thanks!

  • Ok, so after I upgraded to ML I can no longer Boot camp...

Ok, so I just reinstalled OSX 10.8(A clean install) and now I can't boot camp, when I open up the application it says "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.". Why does it say this?

  • Is there a way to install boot camp on a 2006 Mac Pro running Lion?

Lion comes with Boot Camp 4, which supports Windows 7+. The 2006 Mac Pro however only supports Windows Vista, which requires Boot Camp 3.
    I can't find a download link for Boot Camp 3, only 4 and 5.
    Does anyone have an idea?

  • Best way to install boot camp

Hello, i got a MBP recently, and i would like to put boot camp on it, mostly so that i can play a online game (magic online) which is windows only, but isnt stressing on the video card, (just cards, nothing fast and flashy, so i would expect to be able to run it smoothly)
What is the best way to go about this? Am i able to get an external harddrive/ big flash drive to put windows on and then only have it on here when i need it, i dont really want to partition my internal drive, as it seems like that always leads to problems later on...
I guess what im asking, is you the people who use boot camp, what is the best/easiest/most reliable means of installation and use for boot camp. And where is the best to place to buy a windows cd for the installation (xp)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Microsoft has gone to great lenghts hindering the user to install Windows onto external devices.
Googling through the net brings up some instructions on how-to do this nonetheless, but it is quite an effort.
Best way to install WIndows on your Mac for playing games would be the useage of BootCamp and by following the BootCamp Installation Guide to be found here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ or inside the BootCamp Assistant in OSX (in the Applications/Utilities folder).
    Regards

  • No source signal after running an upgrade from Vista to Win7

I have an HP S2031 monitor and I am getting a No Source Signal message after I ran an upgrade from Vista to Win7 operating system.
Computer is running and all cables are connected properly.

Seems like it is not a monitor problem.
Disconnect hard disk and disassemble the memory RAM.
Switch on the pc, then switch it off again.
Re-connect hard disk and ONE RAM stick only.
Retry boot with one stick after the other.
    Which pc do you have?
Do you have an additional graphics card?
Which output port do you use for the graphics.
How is it connected to the monitor?
Which port at the monitor side?

  • Need Detailed instructions to install new hard drive & upgrade from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise

    Hi folks,
    I have this laptop machine:
    Lenovo 3000 G530 4446-23U Laptop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3400, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Vista Home Basic
I need to install another hard drive and I also want to upgrade to Win7 Enterprise Edition while doing the rebuild.
I am very nervous about doing this as I upgraded a W530 from Win7 basic to Win7 Enterprise and ran into all kinds of drive issues.  And I thought that would be about as straightforward as you could get, but it a far cry from that.
I do not want to have to go through that again - I still don't have everything working on it.
Can someone please tell me the precise steps to take to do this upgrade and how to ensure that I obtain ALL the drivers for EVERYTHING on the laptop and how to ensure that all those drivers are correct and exactly how to install them.
If there are other issues associated with upgrading from Vista Home to Win7 Enterprise, please advise of those and the solutions.
    Thanks very much.....
    Gus

    hi gmercanti,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The easiest way to upgrade Vista to Windows 7 is to run the Windows 7 Installer inside WIndows. Follow this guide for instructions. After upgrading, you will need to install the Windows 7 Drivers for Lenovo G530 4446 via http://support.lenovo.com.

Let me know if you get any errors.

Elements 5 will not start from windows.old after upgrading from vista to win 7

  • After upgrading from Vista 64 64 bit to Window7 64bit the DVD stopped working

After upgrading from Vista 64 64 bit to Window7 64bit the DVD at first worked just fine but after about 7 months it just stopped responding as if the hardware as in the DVD Dive it compatible with Windows 7. I have reinstalled the full Windows 7 that I got from HP but it still has the same problem and when I try a full recovery it  will start to read the recovery DVD but it take way to long like 15 mins just to start reading and it stops reading with error's after about 2 min's into it.
Were is the errors that I get
This PC in not supported by the system recovery disc. you will not be able to continue to recover this system with these disks.
keep in mind that the problem lies with the DVD drive not working and like stated above it will work if Windows Vista 64 is installed so this error message is not the key to the problem just part of it.

  • C6150 won't print after upgrade from Vista to Win 7

    Hello.
I have a C6150 AIO that worked fine under Vista.  Since I've upgraded to Win 7, I cannot get a printout from any application or the Windows test print.  The HP Solution Center test print works fine.
    -  Printer is hooked up wirelessly
    -  I've installed the latest driver from HP that is supposed to be Win 7 ready
    -  I've also installed the patch they recommend after upgrading from Vista
There is no error.  Print job shows up briefly in the print manager window, then disappears as though it printed.  I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated.

I hope I have now sorted this problem.....
After numerous atems to install HP Windows 7 drivers & apps and failing I decided to restore the PCs to the day before I first installed the Drivers etc.
Then I unistall HP software and reinstalled the new drivers etc. This I had to do a couple of times on the Laptop (restore 3 days back).
After installing the HP software you can print a test page, print OK. Then goto printer properties and ty to print a test page from there, if this is unsuccessful  restore system and start again.  Most it took me was three attemps.
Now allI have to do is hope that the windows updates dont mess it all up again!
Hope this helps you......... Good luck

  • Can't print from IE 8 after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

My laptop (HP Elitebook 8530w) uses two HP printers: Color LaserJet CP3525x (at work) and Deskjet 6940 (at home). Both printers are accessed across a local network.
I recently upgraded from Vista Enterprise to Windows 7 Enterprise.
Everything still prints fine (from Word, Adobe Reader, Windows Photo Viewer, etc.), except for IE 8! When I try to print a web page from IE, it prints only the page header, and otherwise the sheet is empty. This symptom occurs on both printers. (And of course this worked fine before the upgrade.)
Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

If anyone else is having this problem, I found the solution on another forum (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/InternetExplorer/thread/920588e5-ccc4-4e24-83d6-606...).
Specifically, the following steps solved the problem:
    1. If it doesn't already exist, create a directory named "Low" in your directory "C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\".
    2. From a command prompt, issue this command:  ICACLS C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Temp\Low /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low
