Catch-22 authorizing computer

When I sync my Iphone (Iphone 4, ios 6.01), Itunes (11) tells me that there are 26 apps that it can't transfer because I'm not authorized on this computer. (there are a whole bunch of others that it transfers OK). When I try to authorize it, it then tells me that the computer is already authorized. (Macbook Pro running OS X Lion).
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks,
Richard

You can't there set at the time of purchase. How many Apps are we talking about here?
If any of them are free apps I suggest you delete them and "re-purchase" with your current id. As for the rest its upto you which is worth more the cost of re-buying the apps or changing your id to do the updates?

  • IPod Touch 4G won't sync new apps on 2nd authorized computer, but WILL sync music, podcasts, etc.

    Hello.
Everywhere I've read about apps not syncing to the iPod touch while using iTunes on a second authorized computer have mentioned that they could sync nothing to the device. Yet I have a different problem, one where I have no problem syncing new music, podcasts, pictures, etc., and only new apps refuse to sync to the device.
I recently purchased a new iPod Touch 4G. My computer being away for repairs at the time that I bought it, I synced only podcasts, apps, pictures, and video to the device using a friend's computer under a different Apple ID. When I first synced it, I authorized that computer with the device, and it mentioned you could sync the device with up to 5 computers, so I figured I would have no problem when I got my own computer back.
Having now received my computer back, I connected my new iPod touch to my own iTunes under my Apple ID and authorized my computer as the second authorized computer. These are the only two computers I have ever synced the device with.
I copied my music library, more pictures, and more podcasts to the device with no problems, and they play/show on the device no problem. Also, I can still access and use all the content previously on my iPod.
I have downloaded a few new free apps that I wanted to sync to my iPod using my computer, but when I go to sync them to my iPod, they won't sync to the device. I have downloaded all the apps I had originally put on my iPod using my friends computer so that I would receive updates for the apps automatically. I have not tried to sync these, though I have (or iTunes at least is telling me I have) synced any updates that have since come up for the apps already on my iPod.
I have tried clicking and dragging the new apps from the apps tab over to the device tab, and iTunes shows them syncing, and to the best of my knowledge, shows that it has finished syncing them. It also shows that it has completely synced all the new apps when I try syncing on the apps tab under the device tab (the one that shows up when you click on the tab for your iPod, and is next to Summary, Pictures, Video, etc.). I have all the boxes checked off, and the boxes next to all the apps are checked off as if they're on my iPod, but they don't show up on the screen display next to it. When I click and drag the new apps over so they appear and click "apply," iTunes shows that it has completed the syncing process, but the apps won't show up on my iPod, and disappear from the sceen display on the device apps tab the next time I sync my iPod.
I have the latest version of iTunes, and have downloaded all updates for it. My iPod's less than a month old, so I don't think there's any updates for the iPod itself.
I also currently don't have the ability to sync over wi-fi, or have wi-fi access on my iPod at home, though I could set it up if it would fix the problem. Right now, I'm only syncing my iPod using usb and iTunes.
I would prefer, if possible, not to have to restore the iPod to factory settings, and begin anew. However, if this is necessary, any help on how to restore the iPod and back it up would be much appreciated.
Any help you can give is awesome.
    Thank you for your time.

Hey, I'm probably too late and you may have already solved it but here's a solution. In iTunes go to Edit then preferences and then click on reset dialog warnings. What happens is when you first sync your ipod, you receive a message saying something like transfer?and you've probably selected "Do not show this message again". I don't really know why but iTunes assumes that the apps on your iPod are already on your computer and therefore need no transferring.
After you've reset it, the same message should pop up about transferring. As long as you don't click don't show, you should be good to go.

  • I have home sharing enabled but still can't get my library to show up on my newly authorized computer, I have a lot of songs imported from CD's, never had to use itunes match or before, please help if you can

I cannot get my library to show up on my newly authorized computer, please help if you can.
I have home sharing enable on old computer and new one.
If I try to sync --I  get the message that ipod can be synced w only one computer and if I sync with this library (which only shows new purchases from itunes)   it will replace everything that is currently on ipod

Why can't the songs be transferred to the device?  Is it because they are not authorized?  Were these 25 tracks purchased/downloaded with the same account you have used to authorize the PC/new iTunes library?

  • HT3819 How do I share just one movie (not my entire library) from my itunes library with an authorized computer using home sharing?

How do I share just one movie (not my entire library) from my itunes library with an authorized computer using home sharing?

    many thanks.
    That should be possible.
From his library connect to your library via Home Sharing.
Select the name of the shared library in the source pane of your itunes, and click on the wee disclosure triangle to the left of the name of the library. Does "Films" appear beneath the name of the library?
    Here's a screenshot of what I mean.
Select "Films". In the right-hand pane you should see the item you want to transfer. Just select that item, and click "Import".
Use the same basic technique to get one or a few songs from your library transferred to his library. (The only difference is that you would have "Music" selected instead of "Films".
If you don't want him to have access to other items in your library, you could just switch Home Sharing off on his library after you've done the transfers.

  • HT1848 How do you transfer music from one authorized computer to an iphone?

I want to transfer music from my old computer to my iphone, which I have made an authorized computer.

An iPhone can only be managed from one library. Transfer the music to the computer with that library or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Why can't I see my music from CD's that were synched to cloud on a different authorized computer?

I have imported two CD to iTunes on my home computer and synched them to the Cloud, I can't see them on another authorized computer. I was wondering if anyone has any advice? Thank you

You cd music will not be on icloud.  You will have to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Authorized computer won't play TV episode in iTunes library?

Why won't my authorized computer play a TV episode that is in my iTunes ibrary?

    Hello alykess,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with music on your iPhone.  In my experience, songs that are grayed out have not been completely synced over, and I recommend resyncing for this.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPhone by unchecking "Sync Music" and click "Apply."  Then check "Sync Music" and click "Apply" again.  If you do not want to sync your entire library, be sure to select "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" and select the content you want to sync:
If you sync manually, delete the music when your iPhone is selected in iTunes and drag new content to your iPhone.
You can find the syncing steps in the following article:

  • Is there a limit of ipods per authorized computer??

I know thwre is a limit to the number of computers you can authorize to run iTunes. Is there a limit to the number of ipods I can connect to my computer or do I need to "deauthorize" the ones I don't use any more? This is my third ipod and now both kids want one.

Yes, as you probably already know, you can authorize up to 5 computers onto your iTunes account to play purchased songs. iPods are not authorized since they have to work through an authorized computer to download purchased (and DRM protected) content. So there is no limit to the number of iPods you can sync to a single computer. If your family has 3, 5, 7, etc. iPods, they can all be used on the same computer.
However, there does seem to be a undocumented, as far as I can tell, limit to the number of different libraries you can connect an iPod to. Meaning if you set the iPod to manually update and go around to different computers getting stuff off them, at some point you will get an error message that your iPod can not sync to more than X number of libraries. I forget the number, it has been reported here before though, and 7 seems to ring a bell, but I might be off on that one.
But you don't need to worry about that last one. The simple answer to your question is that your family can continue to add iPods and they can all be used on your computer at home.

    Hi PuzzleBreaker,
It's not as complicated as all that....but no, there is no such table anywhere - you could fill yours out with the information below applied to your devices :
Authorizing and deauthorizing a computer allows you to manage which computers can sync or use apps, audiobooks, books, music, movies, or other content you've purchased from the iTunes Store.
You can use or sync your purchases from the iTunes Store on up to five different  computers (these can be any mix of Macintosh or Windows-compatible  computers). When you sync or play an item you've purchased, your computer is  "authorized" for purchase using your Apple ID. (So, AUTHORIZING is something you do with a computer only - not a device, and it basically lets you have access to be able to play music, movies, do syncing, etc. with items in the iTunes library on that computer)
When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. This article describes how to manage these associations.
Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined)  associated with it. Each computer must also be authorized using  the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with  your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another  Apple ID for 90 days. You can view which devices or computers are  currently associated, remove unused devices or computers, and see how  long before they can be associated with a different Apple ID from the  Account Information page in iTunes on your computer (So, ASSOCIATING is something you do with your AppleID - and on a computer in conjunction with an Authorization - to allow you do download past purchases, or use iTunes Match).
Hope this helps! Good luck with your chart!!!
    Cheers,

I purchased a song on this Mac, an authorized computer.  I am now getting a message that this computer is not authorized to play the song. When I provide my username and password to authorize my computer, the song is still not authorized. Why?

  • My laptop crashed and it was an authorized computer for my iPhone.  How do I remove this from my list of computers?

My laptop crashed and it was an authorized computer for my iPhone.  When I downloaded iTunes to my new laptop and authorized it, I see that my old laptop is included in the count of authorized computers.  How do I remove this from my list of computers?

You do not, nor do you need to until you reach the limit of 5. Then you can deauthorize all.

  • How do I change the authorized computer to sync to my iPad? Lost all my data and am trying to reinstall my iTunes libraries.

How do I change the authorized computer to sync to my iPad? I lost all of my data when my PC crashed and am trying to reinstall my iTunes libraries in the same PC that has been reformatted to its original factory state.

If you followed the instructions in the link that Diavonex referred you to, that should have transferred all of the iPad content into your iTunes library. I have no idea what to mean by the iPad sees another PC. Where? How do you know that? How are your determining that the iPad sees another PC? iTunes does the "seeing" - not the iPad.
Then you say "if I share" - do you mean if you use Home Sharing? The iPad and computer do not have to be connected in order for Home Sharing to work. The devices must be on the same WiFi network. You cannot transfer music from the computer to the iPad using Home Sharing.
I still don't understand what you are saying,

  • Upgrading Windows results in same computer being 2ns authorized computer

I just upgraded my laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7. I re-installed iTunes and iTunes now recognizes the same computer as a second authorized computer. Why? AND most important, how can i now de-register the "phantom" one?

I think that the you should have de-authorised your account in iTunes on the computer before you upgraded (I'm assuming that iTunes is now seeing it as a different computer). But you don't actually need to de-authorise it, it can be left as it is - you are allowed up to five authorised computers, and when you reach that limit you can de-authorise all 5 via your iTunes account (you can only de-authorise all when you've reached the 5 limit, and it can only be done once in a 12 month period).
