Category Changes On It's Own &Songs Vanish From Playlists - Help

My iTunes has gone mad! For no apparent reason two significant problems have suddenly appeared in my iTunes software and help is appreciated. These two problems occur most of the time but not all of the time, some much so that I basically can not use iTunes as the clean-up required to would be to time consuming to justify the attempt now that I am aware this is happening.
1. Songs I select in a play list will just vanish from the list when I click on them. i.e. a list with 100 songs in it will become 97 songs long after I click on three songs to play them, each seeming vanishing from the list and without playing any portion of the tune. This occurs in both the smart and standard play lists, you click on the song and you watch it vanish from the list and the song count drops by one song … with each click of the mouse. All of the songs that vanish from the play list do however continue to reside in the master library list.
2. iTunes software changes to Category of a song when it is selected by double clicking it to be played or when it is the next in the queue and is played. One minute The Doors’ LA Women is category Rock and then suddenly the song’s category switches to Techno, of New Age… or any random category.
My iTunes software is up to date although the problem began prior to the most recent software update was released. Your assistance is appreciated.

Hi lewisspindlove,
Thanks for your input,
it doesn't happen when i have my desktop in a "single picture" mode, and,
it doesn't happen on other accounts, because besides mine(Admin), there is only
the Guest account and this does not occur on that account.
I tried your method of removing the wallpapers folder from Libary, then I
noticed that the computer will select ANY image which I last used when in
"single picture" mode, not "Change picture every 5mins" mode.
For example, let's say I have a picture which I saved in the Documents folder,
and I use that in "single picture" mode; after which I revert back to the folder which contains the pictures I want for "Change picture every 5mins" mode (which is stored somewhere else).
If i go to the Login window & log back in again, the computer selects the picture
I last used (the one in the Documents folder) as my background, BUT, after 5mins the picture changes to the ones I'm using for "Change picture every 5mins".
I hope I'm not confusing everyone!
This is a complicated & weird but ANNOYING problem!
Any ideas if an Archive & Install would help? Does that erase all of my stored data on my HDD?

  • HT1660 How do I change the order of the songs in a playlist?

How do I change the order of the songs on a playlist.  The songs seem to have rearranged themselves.

When viewing a playlist the left most column of numbers is the Play Order. If you click the heading of this column then it should restore the previously defined order. You will also be able to drag tracks up and down the list. If you decide to sort on another column heading, say Album by Artist, you can right-click the playlist name and then click Copy to Play Order to ensure the new order is copied to any device that syncs with the library.

  • How can i change the order of my songs in a playlist????

I want to change the order of my songs in a playlist - I have tried clicking and dragging, but they won't move! Any suggestions? Much appreciated.

I turned shuffle off and it still won't let me move
    them. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
When displaying the playlist in iTunes, click on the LEFTMOST column (left of Name) and then arrange songs in desired order.

  • HT1711 I just down loaded the upgraded itunes  now i cant change the order of my songs on a playlist

With the new upgrades itunes    How do I change the order of my songs on my playlist.  I used to just drag it up on down in the list
    this does not work now

Control click one of the out-of-order songs.  Choose "Get Info".  Click the "Info" tab. You will see "Track Number" XX "of" YY.  Change the first number there.
Do the same for all songs that need correction.

  • Why can't I change the order of the songs on a playlist on my iPhone?

When I try to change the order of the songs in my playlists, my iPhone continues to put the song back where it started.  I can add songs all day long, but I cannot change the order.  The other problem I am having is the same iPhone will, instead of moving the song I tap and drag, will move a different song.  It is usually one of the songs either above or below the one I tap, but not the one that I see moving when I tap and hold.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That's the normal intended behaviour of the Library. I'm not exactly sure why it is, but I guess it's to make it clear to users that if they want to "fine tune" the tracks they should use a playlist (just like you can't use the burn button in the library).
I'm sure you've noticed that you can still sort the library by clicking the headings.

  • Unable to change the order of my songs in a playlists

So first of all this is my first post in this forum so I hope it is the right section.
I should also add that I don't have a Premium Account. I use the free Version of Spotify.
After the new Update I recognized that I am not able to change to order of my songs in my playlists manually. That means when I click and hold the mousbutton on an added song and then for example want to move if from the button to the top of the playlist it just does not work anymore. I am confused if this is a new downgrade for non-premium users after the new update or a bug. This is why I ask about it here.

  • HT2455 how do I change the order of the songs on my playlist?

I have 68 songs on my playlist.  Somehow the songs are all in alphabetical order, making my duplicates all play in a row.  How do I change the play order?

… Perhaps it would help if the OP tells us what file types they are wanting to convert. …
indeed, that should be step #1.-
    but …
Problem with 'types' or 'formats' is: people do mix containers (or media wrappers) with codecs,
You mentioned avi - that's no format, just a wrapper. could contain, e.g. a dv-encoded video = all easy; could contain some propitaire CanopusDV = absolutely NoGo on Mac; could contain h264/30fps - go; could contain h264/60fps - nogo.
    etc etc-
    therefore .........
Apple likes it convenient. Or, say, simple.
so, iMovie is meant BY CONCEPT for camcorders.
... and most/all camcorder 'formats' are supported; connect a camera, and some smart import/conversion routines are automatically triggered.
the same mts 'orphanized' as a 'file' is impossible to be read by iMovie, but fully compatible, if from an intact AVCHD structure.
…I bow to your superior technical knowledge
    … just bitter sweet experience
not needed, if iM used as intended.
needed, when abusing the app .....
iMovie is no 'edits all moving images app'.-
    happy movie making!

  • Songs "missing" from playlist still in library

I've seen similar threads but my issue is slightly different. I do apologize if this is a duplicate post.
In many of my playlists, a song will now be marked as missing by an exclamation point.  However, the song is still in the library and I can manually locate it.  This is happening to too many songs (70 at last count) so it is a PIA to fix.  Any ideas how to automate this? Suggestions on how to stop this from happening (this isn't the first time)?
I haven't moved any songs or made changes to song names or libraries. The songs are in the same place and when I click locate for the first missing song in the list, iTunes goes directly to the right folder.  For each subsequent song, I've got to point iTunes.
    Thanks!

Not a Sony Vaio. I have one of the first iPods. It was a gift. It's not that songs disappear from the playlist in the iPod, but from playlists on the computer. They are in the music library and I have to copy and paste them back into the playlist I want them in. I haven't lost any from the music library, fortunately.
The playlists (I have a bunch of them) are blue with a music note. The songs in the playlists have checkmarks next to them, and are all checked. They just drop out of a playlist every now and again and I have to copy it back in. I can go for a while and think "hey, I haven't heard X in a long time". And sure enough it's dropped from the playlist in the computer, and I have to copy it back in from the library, then resynch the iPod. Really weird and mildly annoying.

  • Songs disappear from playlist once in a while but are still in library

Every now and again I notice that a song has disappeared from a playlist. I can copy it back to the playlist from the music library. But what makes the song drop from the playlist? It's either a song I purchased from iTunes or one I imported from cd. Doesn't matter.

  • Songs vids from playlists won't load

I'm having a lot of trouble getting files from playlists in itunes onto my nano. I've reset, restored, reinstalled itunes, restarted, all of this multiple times. The battery seems good. When I click on the ipod icon in itunes and check summary(that all looks good-I've tried using manual and select only checked options several times) then I go to music not all of the playlists I've created in itunes show and in addition only the files originally put there will load. That is if I try to add other songs etc. to the playlist they won't go-only the original few songs will go. I have a Touch and even with that I still have the same trouble with playlists.

I a currently downloading some playlists so I wonder if this is why they are disappearing! I am running Lollipop 5.0

  • How do I change the order of my songs in a playlist?

I am trying to change the order of songs in a play list by dragging a song to the desired location. For example taking the 10th song and moving it so that it is first song.
Sometimes I am successfuly in dragging the song in a play list. Other times I cannot do it. Please advise.

In order to change the order of a playlist, you MUST click on the first header to sort by that column (the numbers column). If you are sorting by other columns (e.g. Artist, title, etc.) you can not reorder manually.

  • How to change the order of the songs in a playlist?

I made a playlist of 26 songs. They are currently ordered alphabetically by artist, except, for some reason, what should be the first artist is actually the last. So in the number column, they are listed 1 to 26, and the artists are alphabetical. I don't want them sorted alphabetically. I want to arrange them in my own desired order but I cannot drag and drop the songs into a different order which is extremely frustrating. Please any help is much appreciated.

I think so. I have "Music" selected from the drop down menu, and I have "Playlists" selected from the top row of choices. The title of the playlist is in a header row with the number of songs (26) and playing time. The first column is the one that shows the numbers assigned to each song.
I have tried selecting "Edit Playlist" thinking that might be where I should go to fix this, but I can't drag or drop there either.
    Any other ideas???

  • Help! Itunes 10 made songs vanish from ipod, but still in library!

I am frantic! I am a music teacher and use my ipod daily. This morning I upgraded to Itunes 10 and synced as normal. During my first class I noticed that all of a sudden half of the songs I needed weren't on my Ipod! They are in my itunes and play perfectly fine there. This is so frustrating! I don't have a cd player, so not having my music for class is making my job impossible!!! Please help ASAP!

    Hi there,
You might try manually managing your music, giving you more control over what goes into your iPod without deleting anything important. If it's still on your computer, just sync it over.

  • Song vanished from phone and itunes

I purchased a song last night through my iPhone, and when I got home and synced up my iPhone with iTunes, iTunes crashed on me while it was importing the song I purchased. When I relaunched iTunes, it once again synced up with my phone, this time successfully, however, I noticed that the song was not imported. No problem, I thought, I'll just have iTunes transfer my purchase from my iPhone and done. However, the song wasn't listed in my phone anymore, and it wasn't listed on the "Purchased" list on iTunes. Any idea as to what I could do?

Check to make sure that you purchased it ( Purchase History, in your account).
If you have then report the problem.

  • Songs disappearing from playlist when I plug iPhone in to my PC/iTunes

I'm not sure if iPhone or iTunes is the problem as they both recently died about 3 weeks ago. My phone died so I took it to Apple and they swapped me out for a new one. When I got home to install the latest back up, I realized I had no music in my iTunes account. Strange! So I have reinstalled all of my music, but now whenever I plug my phone in to my PC and iTunes is open, it erases several songs from my playlist on my phone. The song is still on my phone, just not in the playlist. It's a complete pain in the You Know What to set up a play list in a specific order, so I'm starting to get a little irritated. I am not sure why this is happening. And why only some songs? Is there a glitch in the new iTunes version?  Could something be wrong with my new phone? Or the new update I just did on my phone yesterday? Please help....
