Causes for main memory to be unloaded - BIA Server is overloaded

The check on our BIA server is showing "BIA Server is overloaded".
The details indicate that the main memory was unloaded >900 times in the last 24 hours.
I am not aware of any special activities taking place - what would be the cause of the main memory being unloaded so frequently?
The indices only take up 25% of main memory, which is well below the 50% threshold recommended by SAP.
What else might be the cause?
Thanks

Hi Experts,
We are also getting the same Alert / Error in the SAP Net weaver BIA Monitor and we are not able to understand, how to go ahead with the same.
1. The alert we're getting is "BIA server is overloaded". If we click on details it's showing the alert message as "Number of Times Main Memory Was Unloaded in Last 24 Hours: '1064'".
2. We even tried doing a BIA Reorg and Restart activity, but in vain.
Note: I. Before we did the BIA Reorg, the details message was showing as "Number of Times Main Memory Was Unloaded in Last 24 Hours: '2184'".
II. We did a recent SP 22 upgrade and I'm not sure on where to check for the BIA revision?
Any suggestions on this would be really helpful?
Thank You,

  • Number of times main memory has been unloaded in last 24 hours "0"

    Hello Experts,
I am getting  error "BIA server is overloaded"  in RSDDBIAMON2 tcode.
    Description is below:
    BIA server is overloaded
    Message no. RSD_TREX154
    Diagnosis
The SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator server is overloaded. Either there has recently been a forced unload of the BIA main memory, ort he total volume of loaded data exceeds the limit of 50% of the available main memory.
Both these situations negatively impact the stability of the BIA server.
    Procedure
    You have two options:
Decrease the volume of data in the BIA: Delete BIA indexes that you do not currently need or that you do not urgently require.
Contact your BIA hardware partner and carry out a new sizing for the BIA hardware.
    Procedure for System Administration
By default, this message only appears as a warning in processes that index large volumes of data in the BIA. You can use administration parameters to specify this warning as an error message as well. This causes all index processes to terminate if the error occurs.
    To do this, execute program RSDDTREX_ADMIN_MAINTAIN with parameters Object= DONT_IGNORE_BIA_OVERLOAD, Value = X, and INSERT/UPDATE = X.
    Diagnois says
    1) The total volume of loaded data exceeds the limit of 50% of the available main memory,I have already checked the disk used for storing the indexes  and it is not more than 50% of the BW Accelerator main memory.
2)There has recently been a forced unload of the BIA main memory:  As per error details  Number of times main memory has been unloaded in last 24 hours: '0'  ie no unloaded had happened in last 24 hours.
Please help me how i can solve this erro as there is not unload happened and also disk usage under control.
    Regards,
    Akshay

    hi,
    1) You can check the traces via the trex standalone tool trexadmin or transaction TREXADMIN. You must provide more details to get an analyze. Was there running a lot of process chains at this time? Have you checked the memory monitoring of the BWA blades?
    2) transaction TREXADMIN -> tab version..
You can try going through SAP notes which help with high memory issues.
Sometimes, the rfc server sometimes takes a lot of memory and doesn't free it afterwards.
    Thanks,

  • BIA server is overloaded

    Hi
BIA Server is overloaded with an error ...Returns the number of index attributes per host which was unloaded from memory within a given period of time
    thanks
    Shail

Well, first you need to check if BWA was sized for all the cubes you have indexed. Then there are only two simple techniques for overload: either increase hardware capacity (by buying additional blades) OR removing some of the least important cubes from BWA. More expensive approach would be to analyze the indexed cube to see if they can be redesigned to decrease their memory footprint, but this is excercise going beyond forum abilities.
    Good luck,

  • Transaction for monitoring memory and resources on BW server

    hi experts
I have the task to determine what occurred from an hour specified on few minutes, because there was a process or program ( we don't know ) which collapse memory and resources on BW server. I check throw SM37 if some Job was executed but no one was. I need a transaction for monitoring / checking memory and resources.
Please I will appreciate any helpfull information.

  • BIA Server is Overloaded - part2

    Good Day,
I know that there is already a thread about this problem, but it seems not to be resolved.
I understand that it could be a problem that the memory is out, but in my case it isn't
    My example:
"The problem began when i execute the generation to a InfoCube with 7 billions of records.
In other case, after the overload problem, when i execute the generation of indexes for example 800 Millions records, it executes normal, but if i execute one smaller InfoCube, like 1 million records, then it writes in the log that the server is overloaded and can't continue and so on. Besides the help procedure that it gives, that have to delete all the indexes and restart the BIA server, it doesn't fix the problem."
My question: Is there a way for edit the .ini configuration files from BIA that it could eliminate this error notice or maybe something else?
I have the latest revision BIA v53, 3 Blades with enough memory =))
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi, message is misleading.
Step one is and remains to verify the current utilisation through rsddbiamon2 -> trexadmin -> summary tab.
If this shows a value below 50%, have an extra look on the servers tab to check if one or more rfc-server have a high memory utilisation (normal 6 to 9%, in my last troubleshooting I had an rfc server running away with 48% of the memory ...).
When both are checked and no issues, then you can be pretty sure that you're looking into a faulty message, generated by memwatch-program. This program checks the response from all blades. When a blade doesn't return within xx mSec's you will get the message : BIA overloaded.
There can be quite some reasons why the response on memwatch layer is not within the limits : merge operations, intense reporting, reorg operation AND the issue mentioned above with the rfc server (and a loft more ..).
I didn't see the issue yet on version 53 will keep an eye on the customers where I have installed version 53 in the meantime.

  • BIA Server problem

    Hi All,
In the monitor screen, under the details tab  i  see 'BIA server is overloaded '  but the requests are rolled up and available for reporting.
will it have an impact on the data in the reporting??
    Thanks,
    V.Singh.

    Hi,
You have an elevated risk according to BWA best practices. You are receiving this alert because you are using more than 50% of the allocated memory in a given check point ( even if you pay 100% license you are supposed to leave 50% of the memory idle for temp indexes, query joins etc ) . This warning usually comes with many "number of memory unloads in the past 24 hours etc" warnings. But there is practically no impact to your reporting - this claim can be challenged by theoreticians.
You either take a risk and just keep monitoring it so that it won't get worse, or remove a cube or two from BWA. But definitely consider planning "logically partition" your cubes . This will allow you to control the growth of BWA. Say you have a revenue cube; every physical/fiscal year copy the cube to a new cube and start loading to new cube and add the new cube under multiproviders. The next year you remove the oldest cube from BWA and introduce the new one..
Besides this, look at the standalone Python tool to see the peek times. You may be just getting this warning in certain time window e.g while loading data to BWA and running information broadcasting queries at the same time..Or you may be running APD queries that used to cause a lot of issues - i am not sure if it's still the case.
    Cheers
    Tansu

  • BIA server over load problem

    Hi Experts,
I have a problem wih our BIA sever overloaded and hence queries are getting terminated.
I had a check in the BIA monitor we have status red
Check for indexes loaded from the memory
    Check size of trace files
    BIA server is overloaded
all the above status are red
I am new BIA, can you guys please advise me on this how would I approach this and find a resolution.
    Thank you.
    Tati

It's difficult to advise on the forum, without seeing the system. And as well permanent fix may not be a one click task.
First thing to do: restart BWA system if possible. This would clean temporary indexes and unused indexes from the RAM. If your sizing was done correctly and you are running into overload issues - open a customer message to SAP Support - this never hurts.
Next thing: to analyze the memory consumption on particular blades, analyze the indexes, put procedures and place and so on.
If you are new to BWA and in charge of supporting it - get on BWA course. There are no shortcuts.

  • How to analyse the main memory usage in SAP ERP systems?

    Dear expert,
I'm doing a research work about analysing the main memory usage in SAP ERP systems.
I would like to find out what is load in buffers and when. That means, which process have the control of these memories and which are always performing something, tables loaded, and so on. Becuase I tried to isolate the space needed by a simple webservice call (create one material) in my test system, but even after a $SYN there are something stored in the buffers. I use a BAPI to avoid the execution of the SAPGUI and its repercussion in the system (I know the BAPI called uses resources too, but when I run this BAPI to get the statistics, it's like ST02, I get different values). Could someone help me or recommend something specific to read? Thanks a lot in advance.

    Dear expert,
Thanks a lot for your answer. The point is now that I want to isolate the memory used by a webservice that I call, I mean, I would like to know how many memory is this webservice using in each buffer. And could you tell me where could I read something about the order that things happen in SAP System when a webservice is called (always memory related), that's which steps are done to store data in buffers and so on. Thanks in advance.

If the monitor can be detected your Displays preferences should show it in its Arrangement panel.  You may have to play around with your Display panel to get the desired resolution.  And also may have to click detect displays and gather windows to see both sets of preferences on your main screen.

  • Main Memory Cleaning Policy (Algorithm)

    Respected Sir/Madam,
I am studying the memory management concepts of Microsoft Windows Operating System.
I need to know about the Main Memory Cleaning Policies or algorithms of latest Operating systems of Microsoft (Windows 7 and 8) in details.
What is the threshold level required for the page replacement after remaining the minimum page frames available in main memory ?
What is the Architecture of the Virtual memory management system of these operating systems?
    It is Urgent.
Please send me the answers of these questions.
I shall be very thankful to you for this.

    Hi ,
Thanks for the response. Basically I first opened parent panel which is of type Window. It included menu , toolbar etc. For menu/toolbar events it opens child windows which gets displayed in main window in the form of tabs. This is my use case.
I tried the suggested profiler Redgate Ants profiler. Its very good and informative! I ran the profiler
got the following output. Though I closed the child window it seems objects are still there in memory . No where I left out string , byte array objects in my code.
Not sure why Runtimemethodinfo , hastable bucket are there in memory. I even tried the workaround mentioned at here.
I thought panel resources might have not been freed up and in my code I am clearing them as well. Still did not see much improvement. Any additional things do I need to check? Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Brahmaji.

  • What is the cause for the mac to become slow

what is the cause for the mac to become slow?

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Start with a visit to: OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. SyncTwoFolders
      6. Synk Pro
      7. Synk Standard
      8. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • What's the recommended setting for "Process memory usage" ("process virtual" in UI) for a 64-bit host on a 64-bit OS?

    Hi gurus
In resource based throttling, what's the recommended setting for "Process memory usage" ("process virtual" in the resource based throttling tab of the UI) for a 64-bit host
    on a 64-bit Windows OS?
    According to MS (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee308808(v=bts.10).aspx):
    "By default, the
Process memory usage throttling threshold is set to 25. If this value is exceeded and the BizTalk process memory usage is more than 300 MB, a throttling condition may occur. On a 32-bit
server, you can increase the Process memory usage value to 50. On a 64-bit server, you can increase this value to 100. This allows for more memory consumption by the BizTalk process before throttling
    occurs."
Does this mean that 100 is the recommended setting for a 64-bit host on a 64-bit Windows?
    Thanks
    Michael Brandt Lassen

    Hi Michael,
Recommended setting is the default setting which is 25 .dot.
If your situation is abnormal and you see message delivery throttling state to “4” when the following performance counters are high or if you expect any of you integration
process could have impact on following counters, then you can consider the suggestion by Microsoft. Don’t change the default setting.
    High process memory
    Process memory usage (MB)
    Process memory usage threshold (MB)
You can see these counters under “BizTalk:MessageAgent”
You can gauge these performance counter and its maximum values if have done any regression/performance testing in your test servers. If you have seen these counters having
high values and causing throttling, then you can update the Process memory usage.
Or unexpectedly you’re process high throughput messages in production which is causing these counters to go high and cause throttling, then up can update the Process memory
    usage.
The above two cases where I know my expected process usage (by doing performance testing) or suddenly my production server processing has gone high due to unexpected business
hike (or any reasons) which caused throttling, then do changes to default throttling setting.
Just changing the default setting without actual reason could have adverse effect where you end up allocating
more processing capacities but the actual message processing message usage ever is low means you end up investing in underutilised resources.
