Caution, you may lose photos when trying to replace your screen! HELP??

Okay, I bought one of those replacement digitizer screens for 11.00 on ebay. Then I watched the Youtube video and it seemed really easy to take the iphone 3G apart, and undo the little clips, then replace the screen. Well, anyways, something was sticking inside the iphone and when i went to pop open the case (after removing screws) something finally....popped! OOPS! Yes, when I realized that the damage was done, I opened the back to find that there were some cables torn, and little pieces of plastic floating around. In any event, it was DOA! I went to Apple and shelled out some $$$ for a new 3GS. Now I'm wondering, is there a way to get my old photos that were taken on my 3G by inserting the old SIM card into my new 3GS? They gave me a new SIM card with the new phone, but there were some pictures taken on the old phone that I'm not sure if I can ever get back? Any ideas? Thanks guys!

Unless you synced the phone to iTunes before you attempted the repair, you're out of luck regarding those photos. The SIM does not store any information.

This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Will I lose photos when I upgrade to maverick

Will I lose photos when I upgrade iPhoto to maverick

    No. But backup everything first.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
    3. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least double the
capacity of the drive(s) it backs up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

Photo Booth encountered an error when trying to save your photos. Your photos cannot be saved at this time.
    How do i fix this?

I had the same issue, as suggested by others on similar question I checked my permissions and they were fine.
    This worked for me
    1) First saved the photos from my current Photo Booth library
    2) Deleted the photo booth library folder
    3) Created a new admin user
    4) Copy the photo booth library from the new user and paste it in your user (where the previous photo booth library was)
    5) You can then delete the new user you created.
*this is my first  attempt  here, so my bad if its not up to scratch*

Reminders Notifications in Mountain Lion latest update keeps freezing on my homescreen and won't go away when trying to close. Please help.
I'm using a 2009 Macbook Pro and have installed the lastest update 10.8.1

I've been seeing this for some time now and getting quite sick of it. It happens when I've been away at work for the day and come home to find frozen notifications.
You can fix this temporarily by quitting Notification Centre from Activity Monitor but it keeps happening to me every week or so.

  • Where can you compare 2 photos side by side in Full Screen in Elements 11?

Where can you compare 2 photos side by side in Full Screen in Elements 11? Version 9 has this feature under Display View.

In the Organizer select two thumbnails and hit the F12 key to compare them. But I guess you mean in the Editor application. In Expert Mode it‘s possible to work with floating windows rather than fixed tabs but you first need to set your preferences. Go to:
Edit >> Preferences >> General (Windows)
Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> General (Mac)
Then put a checkmark in the box against “Allow Floating Documents in Expert Mode”
    Click OK
You can now open your two images and use the layout button at the bottom to choose various configurations or to cascade.

  • Hello. Trying to replace broken screen on daughter's laptop. Laptop is an HP DV6T-7000 Quad

Hello. Trying to replace broken screen on daughter's laptop. Laptop is an HP DV6T-7000 Quad (bought in July, has the 3rd gen I-7 proc. and 610 graphics card). OEM screen is an LG LP156WH3(TL)(AC) according to the sticker on the back, which is a 1366 x 768 glossy. Would like to upgrade to the optional 1900 x 1080 full hd matte, which internet research leads me to think is model # LP156WF4(SL)(B3). Can anyone verify the part # and if it is just a screen swap-no new cables required? Thanks! Sid

  • WIll you lose photos when it ask you to upgrade your library?

Im updating my MBP to Mountain Lion and am now updating my iPhoto to iPhoto '11 and when doing so it ask me to update my photo library. Will doing this have the possibility of losing all my photos?

    Again
    Yes
Make a copy of your iPhoto library prior to upgrading [the library in this case ]
And it sounds like you do not regularly backup.  If you do not sooner or later you will lose everything. All of your files including your photos. Seriously you should purchase an external ard drive at least 2 1/2 times as large as your main drive and start running Time Machine
