CBWFQ style QoS on 6500 (Native)

Hi, Is it possible to have CBWFQ style QoS on 6500 SUP2/MFSC2/PFC2, 12.1.23E on the LAN cards, the cards with 1P2Q2T type ports (not the flexWANs). I have read 6500 PFC QoS documentation and did not found any reference to router style CBWFQ (I did not find an option for defining policy maps with 'bandwidth' under classes like the way we do on router IOS). Wondering if it is possible at all with HW/SW combination mentioned above.
If it not possible on the HW above, is it possible with any new HW like S720 etc and 12.2 codes ?

CBWFQ is not supported on the 6500, except in the case of WAN interfaces, as the QoS is not supplied by the PFC for these modules.

Well whenever I publish AIR apps from Flash CS5 Pro if I have the filename property set to "myApp" for example in the dialog box . . . then the program gets published and when you install it "myApp" appears in the Program List as well as optionally in the Desktop Shortcut. I am running on a Windows Machine. I am not sure if this same behavior mirrors itself on Mac or Linux although AIR is designed to be coded once and deployed anywhere. If you have found the filename property in brackets that you mention in Flash Builder are you certain that it is not appearing in your Program List? Perhaps it will appear simply as a shortcut without being in a Folder if you do not specify a path for the shortcut to go to?

QOS on 6500 routed interface

All of the QOS configuration guidance I've seen in the documentation on this website refers to 6500 switched interfaces (switchport mode access/trunk).
Is the QOS configuration different on a 6500 routed interface. For instance on an interface between two core switches in a routed (Layer 3) core?
I have already reviewed all of the IOS-related 6500 Cisco documents I could find, and the latest QOS SRND with no luck finding info on this issue.

Without 'MLS QOS' in 6500 does any interface queueing and trusting take place?

I have a 6500 that does not have 'mls qos' global configured, although the interfaces do have 'mls qos trust dscp' on them as in:

So just what does the global 'mls qos' do? Without it is the command 'mls qos trust dscp' ignored?
I'm trying to track down where in our network dscp settings are being stripped out of packets and this is when I noticed the 'mls qos' was not configured.

it enables QOS on the switch, without it no QOS is being used.

NBAR, Netflow, QoS Policing, 6500s, IOS 12.1(26)E7, and MARS

Hello. I'm having trouble seeing the forest OR the trees, and I'd appreciate some help from someone who has a better field view than myself. We're upgrading our internet connection to 200MB and management is wanting to upgrade our Packet Shaper to meet the new bandwidth. (The Packet Shaper shows top talkers, top protocols, and rate limits protocols or users.) I'm trying to make the argument that we can do this w/ existing tools (nbar, netflow, QoS policing, and MARS), at the same time I'm trying to make the argument that we need to have our supervisors (currently SUP2 MSFC2) on a 3-4 year upgrade cycle.
To get to the 12.2 IOS, I'd require a memory or sup upgrade. What I am hoping for is someone who has gone down this road who knows what I'm lacking in 12.1 code, or if in fact I can do it all here.
While it is self-evident to most in IT why we need to regularly upgrade equipment, I'm having difficulty making this argument to management with hard facts. I'm guessing they'd still be running Windows for Workgroups to save money...but that's another story.
My plan is to use Netflow and MARS to track top users and top protocols. It appears that I lose some mgt functionality w/ MARS in conjunction w/ IOS 12.1, but I am currently unclear if I lose any tracking capability. (MARS is new to us and awaiting install.)
Then, I hope to use NBAR to identify all the latest P2P traffic and police it appropriately w/ QoS tools.
Does my thinking sound solid? Will I be able to pull this off w/ 12.1? If not, what do I need that I lack in 12.1?

First of all - you need to be clear that although MARS uses netflow data, it uses it for the purpose of identifying security issues. If you want to use netflow for reporting and/or accounting purposes MARS isn't the tool you need, try one of the following freeware netflow tools:

The freeware ones are generally more difficult to set up but once running are just as good as the commercial ones.
However, this means you need two netflow destinations - one for MARS and one for your netflow tool, and this feature is called "Netflow Multiple Export Destinations" and initially appeared at 12.1(3)T, but it seems to be VERY platform specific - for example, because we only run GD software on our 3660's we had to upgrade to 12.3(20) to get it.
Looking at the Feature Navigator for SUP2/MSFC2 it appears that you need at least 12.2(18)SXF6 to get this feature so that might help your case.
I'd personally keep the PacketShaper for it's reporting capability if nothing else (IOS can do the job, but not as elegantly as the PacketShaper).

The requirements which you have mentioned I think can be very well implemented on c6500 Platform.
Howerver before putting up my understanding in front of you regarding this QoS requirement I would like to confirm with you why you specifically need Long Pipe (PIPE) mode of operation here..As your requirement is that Customer;s DSCP ie IP QoS marking be remain untouched through MPSL Cloud then I would like to mention that in MPLS QoS the default mode of operation is Short PIPE Mode wherein that the Customer QoS remains untouched and passed transparently across the cloud and PHP has no effect on this behaviour. Remember PHP is on EXP and Customer QoS is in DSCP which is in the underlying IP Packet.Under default mode of Short PIPE operation the PHB((Per Hop Behaviour)) at the Egress PE is decided based on underlying DSCP value of the IP Packet
PIPE mode is useful in Carrier Supporting Carrier Scenarios weherby we want to send traffic to the upstream Carrier with the same PHB treatment as in the porivider's own MPLS Cloud and the PHB is based on EXP value and not DSCP Value.
Having said that I think we should be using Short PIPE Mode only and PHP enabled on the Egress PEs.Please confirm so that I can think more on the actual QoS requirement at the Ingress and Egress PEs.

IDSM on 6500 Native IOS

we are running the IDS in mod 8 I do not see 8/1 the monitoing port assigned anywhere, but on vlan 2 I see 8/2, we have vlan shut dur to security. when I do a sh vlan I see all the IDS ports 8/3..8/8. how do I know if 8/1 is monitoring the traffic on the IDS?. I tried to set a vlan 188 to 8/1 and it would not set. any help would be great! thanks

As far as I can see I'm using SPAN, when I do a sh port count I see data and in IEV I'm getting alarms. Is there anyway I can display the vir ports of my IDS it's on mod 8

Word Heading 3 displays period/space in PDF

Hi,
When I PDF a Word document, the Heading 3 style displays what looks like a grayed period or space in the resulting PDF file. This period/space does not seem to be recognized by Acrobat X as text.
I tried modifying my Heading 3 style, but it is native to Word and cannot be renamed or modified.
Then my co-worker told me that she is having the same issue when generating a Word file from RoboHelp.
So, I am wondering if my Heading 3 style is actually OK (not corrupt) and this is an Acrobat X issue?

There are no Distiller settings that I can see in my Word document. There is the Adobe PDF tab which leads to Acrobat PDFMaker and inside it I tried changing conversion settings to Standard, to Press and to High Quality - and in every case I'm still getting the same dark colours in headlines instead of bright, and shifting, shrinking spaces between lines. As soon as I click on the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button, the spaces between hyperlinks start disappearing and the whole page formatting goes crazy. Very frustrating to see the loss of quality.

Toss up between cameras...

There is a lot influencing this decision so I'll just lay it all out there; About four years ago I purchased a canon zr50mc (a real old miniDV camera that is near obsolete in these forums). I used it to film interviews for advanced slide shows and montages. It worked good then, the color and quality of the overall image didn't leave much for the average client to complain about, and it basically got me through the day with some lower paying customers.
I've started to move up on my client chain doing higher paying jobs. About 5 months ago I got my hands on the production suite and have become very attuned and attached to the editing software (and of course After Effects). I used to use FCE and have now moved to PP CS3 (very recently).
So here in lies my problem; I have been reading up a lot on camera features (such as aperture, focus distance, color correction etc...) I'm looking to make a purchase with a few things in mind. First off I will continue to do the interviews for these advanced slide shows. Secondly a friend has asked me to make him a compiled video for a band he manages; it will include their live performance and a semi professional music video. And lastly, I'm looking to get real serious in terms of short films and creative pieces; I plan to apply to some graduate programs in a year and a half to 2 years and I need to start compiling a portfolio. Now I was planning on getting myself an hv30. However I am starting to lean away from HDV as I'm not sure its entirely needed. In addition, the hv30 does not have as many manual controls as I would like. I'm looking to experiment with different effects and styles BEFORE I hit the editing room (such as DOF, color correction, white balance etc...).
I started looking at the GL2 and from what I read there are some issues and it really isnt as fluid as I'd like. So I looked further up the chain with the hopes that something in this new price range will last me a long time before an upgrade is needed. I started to set my sights on a DVX100A or a used xl2. Now I'm weighted evenly in two directions here. On one hand I realize half the controls on these two machines will be entirely foreign to me until I finish the users manual and really experiment (I know more about the internal workings of the camera than things that can actually be toggled). In which case I'm not entirely sure I need something like this or if it will be obsolete in the next year or two. On the other hand I know myself, and I catch on to things very quickly. This being something I'm interested I know I'll spend every ounce of free time I have either reading up on styles and the options for the controls or experimenting with the actual things themselves. In addition to that I know there are presets for different types of things and I'm completely willing to put the time into reading up on what these machines can do. And I'm quite confident that with one of these things I could make some really good portfolio pieces once I've experimented enough.
I'm not that concerned about price as the only expenditures I've had in the last few years (in terms of equipment) are software upgrades and tapes / mics etc... The only thing holding me back is that whatever choice I make, I'm getting a new mic / a stand (off camera, I've had enough w/ camera mounted mics) and a cheap light kit. Sorry for the long post but I did all that in the hopes of an honest answer and to save the board from 25 posts answering questions. Thanks in advance, and give me as much insight into your experiences as possible.

The DVX has an actual manual zoom ring, wheras the Canon has a servo driven zoom. I also like the focus on the DVX much better than the XL2.
Also, you can get a zoom/iris/focus/record remote controller for the DVX (also works with the HVX). Varizoom makes it, very very handy for tripod event work, especially when you need to get over a tall crowd.
Also very handy to have for Steadicam work (if you think you'll ever do any of that).
On the HD route, the Panasonic HMC-150 will be out, around $3K to $4K in price, and will use AVCHD compression on cheap little SD cards. This camera will be a near-identical setup to the DVX in controls and body style, and it has native 1920x1080 (based on current reports...no cameras available to test that out just yet, though). The downer is that your SDHC card isn't nearly as robust and durable a solution as the P2 cards, and the format (AVCHD) is a bit lossier at times than the DVCPro HD solution....but, it's a huge leap from the DVX, and not going to be a whole lot more money (the HPX-170 will be a little more expensive than the HMC-150, probably somewhat comparable to the HVX).
The Varizoom controller should also be compatible with the new HMC and HPX as well, so you could build your equipment around the DVX (or HVX) for now, and then upgrade easily within the next couple of years without throwing away a bunch of accessories.

Mixing units of measure

Working in RH7, with content distributed as Webhelp, any
reason to prefer one unit of measure over another? Does HTML or do
browsers generally handle any better than others? RH logically
seems to require points for fonts, defaults to pixels for graphics,
but what about setting (1) line spacing in styles, including the RH
native Lists style, or setting (2) table column width. I have never
switched to a monitor with a different pixel size and had things
look messed up, but wouldn’t that happen?

Yes, it's the mixing of print measurements with electronic
media measurements that makes me wonder where things might go
wrong, or why they don't. A pixel is a thing of arbitrary size, not
a dimension, right? So the displayed size of a picture sized to 200
x 150 pixels depends on screen resolution. A point is a fixed
dimension, yet the displayed size of text that sized and spaced in
points also changes depending on screen resolution. So points are
not treated as fixed dimensions. At least not always. Why not? And
where not? And what happens when you move content from an
electronic display environment to a print environment when, for
example, you convert from Robohelp topics to Word documents? If no
one ever has problems these inconsistent units of measure, what's
going on behind the scenes that makes it all work out so
well?

Has anyone had success in excluding unsubscribe activity from overall engagement scoring?

We've just implemented both individual and account scoring. We have found that several of the individuals are scoring high because they have unsubscribed from our database. An unsubscribe requires: an email click, a website visit and a form submission. We've not found a good way to exclude these particular activities from overall scoring. Does anyone have any recommendations?

The only way that I'm aware this can be done is to actually build out your scoring in Program Builder (E9 style), not inside the native E10 model.

Why should I stop using Pagemaker

I have been using Pagemaket 7 for many years, what benefits would justify an upgrade to Indesign considering costs & learning process!

The capabilities of Indesign make pagemaker seem like a toy.
I'm not sure how fancy your forms are, so the graphics handling may not be important.
Graphics handling is much better with support for transparencies, built in gradients, drop shadows, bevels etc. Much improved support for placed pdfs. Real color mangement, Separation panels, great for spot colors, etc.
For text I would think you could use things like character styles, better paragraph rules, page based baseline grids, nested styles and most importantly Native support of tables.
Although I haven't used it there is in CS6 added support for interactive forms.
I'm sure there are many other things that would help in forms that I have missed.
There will be a bit of adjustment, some people have a harder time than others. After a short time you wouldn't even think of going back to pagemaker.

LDAP auth with short usernames?

I’m trying to authenticate some third-party services against 10.7 Server's LDAP directory. The current project is a Synology NAS, with OpenVPN and Jenkins on the docket. My server’s search base is of the form “dc=subdomain,dc=domain,dc=com”, and the LDAP usernames are populating as [email protected]
Authentication succeeds using this verbose username, but I would really, really prefer to use “jblow”, or worst-case, [email protected] as usernames for these various services, to match the style of logging into native services like AFP and the wiki. Is there any way to accomplish this?

I have not tried this with Lion Server but have in the past done LDAP authentication using a shortname (in fact I could not get fullnames or anything else to work). However the 'path' was different and I suspect this is your problem. I believe the correct sort of path would be like
uid=shortname,cn=users,dc=hostname,dc=domain,dc=com or
uid=shortname,cn=users,dc=hostname,dc=subdomain,dc=domain,dc=com
so a filled in entry might look like
uid=fred,cn=users,dc=server,dc=example,dc=com
Note the above is referred to as a DN (directory name).
You can test this in Terminal using the ldapsearch command.
