CC 14 crash on locating media

I've recently start to experience Premiere hanging when trying to locate media. I first noticed it on a project that had a variety of drive sources, but which I have managed to condense to all local. Today, I started a brand new project, 1 media source, 1 file it had to reference apart from the the cache and hang. I've had  quick look at the only other similar question I could find and sorry guys, but if I have to start removing lines of code out of a project I am lost ( or perhaps I read that answer wrong)
I don't use Premiere much, being an Avid editor, but thought I would give it a try. My initial experience sang it's praises and my company is considering it as a replacement for FCP, but if it has these problems reconnecting to media or in the first instance loosing connection to media not moved, I have serious doubts. Please help out. In desperation I have uninstalled and re installed Premiere, wish me luck.
PS. running Windows 7 Pro

As you can see, your Intel graphics card driver is crashing.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 crashes when "locating media"

    The problem;
Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 crashes when "locating media".  I am working on a project that has not given me any problems for the last 200 hours.   About a week ago I notice that the .proj file size was 276mb and found this odd because my largest project to date was never larger than 80mbs.  I thought that the premiere was running slow because of the project size. As luck would have, when my client made their their final changes 2 days ago, I opened the project and premiere would hang on the locating media window and then would crash. I called Adobe and spent an hour on the phone with them to no avail.
    Project workflow
    - 700gb of 5d footage
    - 20 sequences under 5 minutes
    - Dynamically linked files with AE
    - Warp Stabilized about a dozen clips of under 5 sec
    - On every sequence color correction adjustment layer with  RGB Curves, Three way color corrector and sharpen filter
    - I kept old versions of the sequences (I was in version 5 before the crash)
    What I have tried;
    - Unsuccessfully tried to open auto-save files for this project.
    - Successfully opened other older non relevant project
    - Removed Mercury playback engine in the project settings
    - Cleaned out media cache database through pp in media Preferences
    - Manually deleted cache files in /Common/Media Cache Files and /Common/Media Cache
    - Tried importing sequences into new .proj file; it would crash as a result.
    What "worked".
I was able to open it on another computer. save it under another file name. bring it back to my original computer and open it without problem. I lost about 3 days working through this problem, I missed my deadline. and angered the client.  I was able to use a friends IMAC to "fix" the problem, however I can't always count on him being there if it happens again.
    Questions.
    - What the hell happened? Why could I open it on one computer and not on the other?
    - Is there a way to fix a corrupted .proj files on a PC?
    - What should the average file size be, before it becomes unstable? (I'm pretty that my file size was bloated by all the previous versions of the sequences)

    Hi,
I would suggest the following steps:

  • PP CC 2014 crashes while locating media

    Hello geniuses of the world-
I'm having a problem with crashes while locating media.  If I let PP search for the media, it eventually crashes with the standard dialog box.  If I hit Cancel and try to locate it manually, a weird white box appears (clearly it's a dialog, but it never renders fully to the screen UI, so I can't tell what it says) then I have to cmd+opt+esc to force quit the unresponsive PP.
This only occurs when trying to locate media on a Promise Pegasus2 RAID array connected via Thunderbolt 2.  If I locate media on a Glyph backup, it loads the "manual" locate browser or automatically locates the media flawlessly.
To me it seems apparent that it's a problem with the Pegasus but I just figured I'd double check and see if anyone else has had this problem, maybe it's a stupid little thing I'm not remembering to do.
Specs:  Mac Pro 2013 (garbage can), Pegasus2 R8 Thunderbolt 2 RAID in RAID 10 (not my first choice but it's not my hardware) formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)/have also tried ExFat to no avail.
    Cheers,
    Henry

    Hi,
What is the format of the file that you are trying to locate.
Try to move some media on the internal drive and try to locate it from there.
If you feel that the drive is malfunctioning then open the project and use project manager to send the media and project file to the internal drive.
Check if it helps or not.
    Thank You

  • Can't "locate media" in Premiere elements 7

Once i have added and edited few more video clips in my project which i have created earlier, I got following message in preview screen:"Media offline" after saving project and restarting the program. The message appears only to those clips that i have added and edited last. Earlier added clips works well. I added video clips normally by clicking "file" and "get media from.." "pc files and folders" Original clips are on my computers hard drive. When i select the clip from "edit" and "project" and try to use "locate media" button it stays grey so i can't press that button. I'm sure that video clips stays in same place on my hard drive so they could be located very easily if only the program lets me to do that. Program don't let me locate any media. Even the clips which are showing in preview. But the video is showing in another kind of preview window when i double-klick on "media offline" clip in time line. Is this somekind of bug or is the problem in the user? I'm very disappointed if i wasted money to program that doesn't work.

  • "Locating Media" taking AGES... can't open project (CS6)

    Hello,
While I've been away at University I have been editing a film from an external hard drive on my Macbook Pro (with Windows 7 installed), the old 17" Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz Macbook Pro. While it's sometimes a struggle, it handles the editing but would no way be able to render the film in full HD in the time I need it for, and would probably catch on fire before it finished exporting it.
But anyway, at home where I am now, I have a desktop PC - Core 2 Quad, 3.00GHz, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 and when I originally began this project I used this machine and the project ran fine. I have used this machine for films in the past and never had an issue, it's been great to edit on and exporting is much quicker than my laptop.
But there's a problem. I've come back home and need to export this film for Tuesday's premiere. But the project won't open on the desktop PC. It's fine on my laptop, but when I open it in Premiere CS6 on my desktop it displays the box "Locating media..." with the bar half way across but it seems to be stuck. The program isn't frozen but it seems to just not be importing anything anymore, like it's given up. I'm not sure what to do, I can't get into this project.
What could be causing the problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jack

But then why would my laptop happily open the project and run it fine? My desktop should be able to open it, given that it has better specs.
I have nothing better to work with at this point...
Last night I made sure the drive letter for my external was the same on my desktop as it is on my laptop and surprisingly it opened the project fine and began to load the files at the bottom inside the edit like it does normally every start-up. So I finally got into it on my desktop but then it froze when I cancelled the auto-save.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media.

Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media. Every time. Driving me crazy.
It crashes as soon as the Windows dialogue box comes up.
Does it in new projects and in a project I created and imported into just fine 2 days ago.
    Have rebooted.
Running Windows 8.1 on Samsung Series 5 ultrabook Intel i5 - not too sure what else to say about other settings:
I did have a problem the other day when Windows was crashing when browing a large folder of largish  images and video clips but it went away when I put images and videos in separate folders.

    Thanks for reply.
Point taken but I've been using it for over a year for simple edits (5 min films) in PPCC just fine. Can't even do what I could do the other night now.
Simple folder with a few jpegs and movies in it. In fact it just crashes before I even got to another folder.

try starting a new project and importing your project using the media browser. if that doesn't work just import the sequences from the project via media browser.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 not locating media, freezing

For the last couple of days, Premiere Pro on my laptop (15" Apple Retina MacBook Pro, 12gb ram, 2.7GHz i7 - USB 3.0 Lacie drive) has been having trouble locating media. When I open a project, the "Locating Media" diologe shows the progress bar start moving, then stop and not move again. Hitting "Cancel" makes the pinwheel of patience come up. When I use the "Command + Option + ESC" command, Premiere Pro CS6 is not shown as "Not Responding". Force quitting the app and restarting the computer doesn't do anything to change this behavior.
Would appreciate any guidence on how to remedy this.

    Good Day,
I am using Premiere Pro CS6 and I have been been doing metalogging for my film. I am having this issue of locating media when I changed my project over from a failing hard drive to a new one, I left the project on OVERNIGHT to locate media and its in the same spot. With such metalogging I have only been changing the names and descriptions of the files in the bin and I have a good few days work done on it. Is there any way to save the integrity of that bin without having to start an entirely new project over and start from scratch. This is most annoying.
I don't believe I have any corrupt rendered files, perhaps its a corrupted video?
Any help would be appreciated as I see no fix or announcement has come up for this problem yet.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 crashes just after media is loaded

    Hello
I have HUUUGE problem with PrPro CS5.
I have project file - lot of work is already done but lot of more left.
When I try to open my project file it loads fine. But then when it is loading all media files (at the bottom left corner) just when i get message "all media loaded" application crashes.
I've found information that older nvidia drivers may be the issue but unfortunately new driver is not helping.
I have also foundd informotion that VST plug in is problem - how can I disable them in PrPro?
Whats strange i have other projcet with the same type of video files recorded at DSLR and they load fine. But this project is much bigger.
I often had a problem with crashing of PrPro while importing video files to project - sometimes i had to try few times to make it happen (crash otherwise) but later project worked fine, but this time it is not. I have no idea is this connected with the crashes wafter loading media files but i think it is.
Got deadline on sunday and already spent over 4 hours instead of working on trying to find solution..... This situation is getting me broken - really.
If anybody could help me I be grateful
    regards
    Tomek

OK, let's determine if it's the project or the media itself...
With Premiere Pro closed, change the name of the folder(s) containing your media; just add a character to the name so you can quickly change it back. For example, if your folder is called "Footage" just name it "Footage1". Create a new project, and import the original project into it; Premiere will ask where the footage is, but just hit Skip All. Obviously all your footage will be represented by the "Media Offline" placeholder, but you should be able to test whether the project is stable or not. If it is, there is something screwy with one of the media files, or it's possible that the media cache database has been corrupted and needs to be cleaned. If the project still causes the program to crash, it's something with the project file itself.
Try that, and we'll go from there.

  • Locating Media Issue

Hi, we just bought Adobe Premiere CS6 and we are having a problem with its use. Every time we minimize the software or simply change from Adobe Premiere to another window, when we return to Adobe Premiere we have a locating media warning and all of our clips in the session are presented as offline media. Why is that happening? We have to reopen the project to have our clips back.

    Why is that happening?
Operator error is the most likely reason.

  • Premiere Pro/After Effects CC on Mac OSX crashes when moving media

I have Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, in both programs whenever I attempt to move any media (any format) to the timeline from the media browser window Premiere (and After Effects) crashes immediately.
I'm using a MacBook Pro w/ retina, running latest OS, and I have the Microsoft Office suite of apps installed.
Customer service had a go fixing it but to no avail, apparently it has something to do with fonts if that helps anyone, i've reverted all the fonts on my Mac back to the default but still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Matt,
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Pls help - Photoshop Elements crashes when switching media types

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 on a brand new HP Pavilion system running Vista, 9 GB of RAM.  I then imported a catalog with ~18,000 photos and tags from Photoshop Elements v6 via backup from original system and restore to new HP system.  Worked like a charm.  Now I have the catalog open, and when I click on "View -> Media types -> anything else (Video, PDF, whatever)" irrespective of what I select, Photoshop Elements crashes.  The error message states, "Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Organizer) has stopped working.  A problem cause the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  Note this also happens when I use Ctrl-1 or other shortcuts.
Has anyone else seen this?  I literally powered up the HP today, and loaded Elements and Premiere today, so it's not likely due to old software (eg I did not install Photoshop Elements 6).
    Thanks all!
    Ed

Please delete the folder  C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\8.0\Organizer and relaunch to see if the problem vanishes.

  • Since 10.0.9 FCPX crashes at "Import Media"

    Hi,
it never happend before, the problem has shown up after i updated fcpx.
I tried to import my footage, it´s from a panasonic hmc 151. 1080/50i, AVCHD.
I never had a problem before. It was always the some work around.
Open FCPX, insert SD-Card into the build in sd card reader, "import media", choose the filmes, set in and out point, import. finish.
After the update it starts that the footage will not be shown in the "import media" window. Ok, no problem I copied everything to my hard drive. Opened the "import media" window again. Nice, footage shows up. Now the problem, i can only see: clip1, clip 2 etc.
With the click on a file to preview or something final cut crashes within seconds.
Every time I try, what happend? Also with the Canon 550d/T2i Rebel footage.
    No preview, straight crash.
I also saved the fail protocol, if someone needs it to help.
thank you for your help, philipp

Try trashing preferences; I regularly use Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion as my first remedy when FCP starts acting up.
What happens if you connect via USB cable? Are both Archive and Import available and do either work?

  • Flash player crash accessing Adobe Media Server website

    Hi,
Accessing Adobe Flash Media server family website http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/
today on Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla Firefox 3.5, 3.6 (I tried both)
I am using Windows XP version 2002 service pack2 and Flash Player 9 r 124
I upgraded to Flash Player 10.0.32.18 but still the problem persists.
One more information, I installed Microsoft Silverlight 3 today on my machine before.
I am not sure this might be a cause, so I uninstalled Silverlight, but the 'media server website' still crashes the browser.
    Quick reply appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ram Manoj Kongara.

    An important update.
I logged a bug FP-4185 under flash player.
Here are the concise steps to reproduce the issue.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Access the website http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/
    2. When the page is getting loaded and video streaming load animation starts
    3. After 2 seconds the Browser crashes.
Few things that I did prior to the error occured.
Updated Mozilla Firefox to 3.6 version.
    Installed Microsoft Silverlight 3.0
If firefox could be a reason, then browser crashed in IE6 too.
If installing Silverlight affected the Flash player crash when streaming, I uninstalled Microsoft Silverlight, but the flash player persisted with crashing accessing the website.
I tried installing Microsoft Silverlight on few machines in a Net Cafe and tried to access the website with flash video streaming, the browser did not crash.
So there is no reproducible scenario apart from my own Computer.
The browser crash is reproducible every time on my machine.
