CC 2014.2, photomerge, Nikon D810, Windows 7

Updated to CC 2014.2, but when I try to stitch with Photomerge all goes well until the very end.  As the final merge appears on screen I get a message saying Windows has encountered a problem and must close Photoshop.  This happens with files from both Nikon D800E and D810.  Any suggestions?  I'm on the road working from my laptop, which is Windows 7 with all updates, 16 GB ram, lots of free space on hard drive, only Lightroom and Photoshop open. I uninstalled 2014.2 and reinstalled, same result.  Tried merging only two images, same result.

Please define "lots of free space", and describe how big your image is (how many frames).  Edit:  Never mind, I see you tried it with just 2 shots.
I've seen Photomerge use up hundreds of GB of scratch space, after using up my entire 48 GB of main RAM.
Even though it's gotten better in the most recent versions, Photomerge is still one of the most resource-intense things you can do with Photoshop.  It may be uncovering a problem in your computer system that's not showing up otherwise.  Do you see anything that sheds more light on what's gone wrong in your Windows Application Event Log?
There's a configuration setting that may change the way Photomerge runs on your system...  In the Edit - Preferences - Performance panel, what have you got your Cache Levels set to?  Whatever it is, try increasing the number, then close and restart Photoshop and try your Photomerge again.
Finally, one other suggestion that may help...  Convert your raw files to .PSD or .TIFF files first, then try Photomerging those files, rather than integrating the raw conversion with the stitching process.
Good luck.

  • Banding in Photoshop CC 2014 when using gradient or curves, 5K imac and Nikon D810. Help?

I am experiencing severe banding in
    Photoshop CC 2014.
    5K imac, Nikon D810.
16 Bit Tiff in both Adobe RGB and Profoto RGB.
It seems to be something new.
    OSX Yosemtie 10.10.1
    It appears when using gradients.
    Help?

    Thanks for your help Trevor.
That does not seem to make a difference.
I sometimes use the Nik Collection for
    gradients as well.
The banding is very visible in the
    Plugin as well.
It is odd because this seems to have
    just started this week.
It is the same on my 2011 iMac as well.
Not sure if it is because I shot on a grey
    background.
    I will post an example.
I am also using Profoto RGB which
is supposed to have smoother gradients.

  • Hi i have been lucky enough to take delivery of the Nikon D810 but am unable to upload the raw images into LR5 or Photoshop CC 2014 is this just a matter of waiting for a new version of ACR ??  Thanks

Hi i have been lucky enough to take delivery of the Nikon D810 but am unable to upload NEF files into LR5 or Photoshop CC 2014 is this just a matter of waiting for the next version of ACR ???

What version of Camera Raw do you have?  Do Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw to see.
If it's not 8.5, which is the latest current release as of this writing, you might want to look this over:  Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
Just looking over the list here - Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras - I don't see the D810 listed at all.  Maybe that page isn't updated or maybe the camera is newer than even the newest Camera Raw release, in which case you'll have to wait for Camera Raw 8.6.  Note that Adobe often releases beta versions early so the wait may not be that long...

  • Hi to all, I use Windows 7, 64Bit and Lightroom 5.7, Camera Raw 8.7, when I develop or export files (mostly Raw Fils from Nikon D810) after 10 to 20 pictures my computer shuts down or I get a bluescreen. Please tell me why.

Blue screen/Computer shuts down is almost always a hardware malfunction or a driver problem.
Make sure your video driver is up to date.
If it is, then the next suspect, in my mind, is overheating, make sure all of the fans in your CPU case are working properly.

  • Opening RAW picture of Nikon D810 on Windows desktop

Hi, I have PS CS6 loaded on Windows XP desktop. Recently I bought Nikon D810 Camera. The Raw pictures that I took from this camera cannot be opened in CS6. What should I be doing? Thanks,

The reference for minimum OS version of 8.4 and newer is this page where Adobe had to supply a manual updater back to 8.3 after the automatic update process installed a version that was not compatible:

  • How to Install Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera

I need someone to walk me through how to install a Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera.
I haven't used photoshop in ages and I got a new camera. I have been on the phone with Adobe (no help) and spent a couple of hours online trying to figure this out. I'm confused, frustrated and about to throw my computer out the window.
Also, I placed this in the "Photoshop for Beginners" since Photoshop CS5 doesn't appear anymore. I know CS5 is outdated but I spent hundreds of dollars on this program and you would think adobe would still honor its product.
    Any guidance is much appreciated.
    AJ

Odds are cs5 is too old. If you do a search on my the main Adobe website there is a list of compatible cameras for the last known update to camera raw for cs5.
Each version of Photoshop only gets so many updates for camera raw then it is necessary to upgrade Photoshop to get the next update for camera raw.
So you currently have 4 choices.
    1 upgrade Photoshop
2 get Lightroom - latest version
3 get Photoshop elements -latest version
4 get dng converter - this will download the latest version an is the only option that is free.
The dng converter can be found by searching Adobe website.

  • Using Lightroom 5.7, Raw files become from my Nikon D810 become corrupted when I select them to view or edit.

.Updated to Lightroom 5.7 to accommodate the Nikon D810. Upon importing RAW files to the files become corrupted when they are selected to be viewed or edited.
I am using Windows 7, 64 bit, with 8 GB Ram.
    Any help would be appreciated.

There are several likely sources of corruption, and video card would be far down on my list of possible suspects.
The transfer from camera card to hard disk is the most likely place for problem, either the card reader or USB cable can go bad. Another likely source of problems is the computer's hard disk is starting to fail. The camera card itself may be bad. And lastly, the memory in the computer may be malfunctioning.

  • How do I set up Premiere Elements 12 to open Nikon D810 NEF, RAW files?

I'm running a Windows 8.1 computer with Premiere Elements 12.  New Nikon D810 RAW files will not open in program.  Is there a plug-in or other fix for this?

    gsorozan
You cannot import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements 12. For that you need to have Camera Raw at least 8.6 which is supported by Premiere Elements 13. So, if you want to import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements, you need Premiere Elements 13.
However, if you convert your Nikon D810 nef files into dng files with the DNG 8.6 converter, you can import those dng files into your Premiere Elements 12.

  • PS CS3, Camera Raw 4.6 Update and Nikon D810 NEF File Reading Issue

      Currently Have Photoshop CS3 & Adobe Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9.
According to Adobe, Camera Raw 4.6 supports Nikon D810 NEF files.  I have downloaded Camera Raw 4.6 Update. When
I try to open Nikon D810 NEF files, I get Photoshop CS3  error that says
"cannot complete request your because it is not the right kind of
document. These NEF files wont open in Adobe Bridge at all.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hey,
Before I purchased, let me get your thoughts on another option that just occurred to me which involves:
1)Editing my D810 NEF files in LR 5.6, which I have, then exporting/saving the edited files as JPEGs.
    2) Doing any additional editing, as necessary (i.e. that might require layering or selections..etc) , with the JPEGs  with Bridge or PS CS3.
This method wont involve any additional software purchase now.. right?    Am I missing anything.   here?    Since my final output to my customers are JPEGs any way, wont this work?   Will I be at any disadvantage.   Am I missing anything.   here?

  • How do I get PE 12 to open Nikon D810 RAW (NEF) files to work on?

Running Windows 8.1 machine with Photoshop Elements 12.  Can't open RAW files from new Nikon D810.  Is there a plug in?  Any direction?

You will need to do a manual install since adobe doesn't let vista or xp update automatically anymore. The general procedure is described here (it's for PSE 11, but everything is in the same place in PSE 12):

You can either upgrade to CS6/CC or use Adobe's free DNG converter to convert proprietary raws to the universal DNG raw format. Here are the links:

  • CS5 (camera raw 8.7.1) not reading Nikon d810 NEF files

I just purchased Nikon d810. I have CS5. All updates are current and I've downloaded Camera Raw 8.7.1 but Photoshop/Bridge still can not read NEF files. What am I doing wrong?

If you have Windows, go into the Control Panel > All Items > Autoplay
Uncheck Autoplay (I keep it off because I don't want Windows doing anything automatically, I like to make that decision).
Next to the Pictures category, set the drop-down menu to "Take no Action".
Then when you insert a SD card, Bridge would see it under "Computer", but you would have to double-click to open it, and go to the folder that has the pictures.
One warning: Don't do any processing off an SD card. Make copies and put them in a folder on your hard drive. Too much can go wrong with flash memory and it's unwise to work off it or an external drive. You want backups of your valued photos.
I don't think Bridge CS5 auto-imports Photos from SD cards, so you are safe there.

  • Can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

No. Lightroom 4.x will never be able to open Raw files from the D810.
D810 support has only just been added to the RC version of Camera Raw 8.6. It is never retrospectively added into older versions.
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 RC for CC and CC 2014 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
Adobe will probably add D810 support to the next version of Lightroom.
Either way you'll have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 to be able to open D810 Raw files in Lightroom.
