CC 2014 Knockout or Overprint Issues?

We have a Customer that says pink text on black background set to Knockout is not holding that setting and actually changing to Overprint within the exported PDF file? Has anyone heard of or experienced the "Overprint" or "Knockout" settings on text not holding when exporting PDF files in CC 2014?

But in the top example it will, by default, be over printed by the black. Assuming that the black is printed last.
In your example I don't see how the ink order would matter (besides offset inks are transparent), if you look at just the black plate it shows the pink text is knocked out. Overprint only affects objects underneath the object set to overprint—the pink text is on top of the black and it is set to knockout the black below.

  • Overprint issue, please help

Hi, I am very confused with the overprint issue in illustrator recently.
Figure 1 is a document that used to contain overprint objects; then I deleted all the layers/objects and drew a simple oval. As you can see from the Print Summary – it says there’s overprint object.
Figure 2 I created a brand new document and drew a simple star shape. You can see that there’s no overprint issue anymore.
I mean they’re both simple object without any overlapping involved, how come one has overprint issue and the other not? Is there any document settings I need to be aware of? Sometimes I have very complex shapes and there's no overprint issue, why? Please help.
P.S. There's no transparency or strange colour fill on the shape. And I just want to get rid of the overprint warning.
    Figure 1:
    Figure 2:

I can't replicate your issue. what do you see in your Attributes window (window> Attributes) when you select all? Are you having printing issues on your laser printer?
Also, if you make an object overprint and then delete it, the next object you make will overprint by default.

  • How to detect knock out or overprint issue

We have sent a printer test file (PDF file) to printer using default swatch color [black] 100% in Indesign CS3. Our procedure is to create postscript through PDF using Distiller 7.0. Printer came back and said your document has "Black text is set to knock-out" should be set as overprint. I have attached a sample page that is being sent to printer.
We have enabled the option "Overprint [Black] Swatch at 100% under the preference menu.
How do we ensure the PDF document does not have knockout/overprint and please help me how to resolve this issue before we dispatch to printer in future.
    JohnArul

Acrobat's Separation Preview will let you highlight areas that are set to overprint. Go to Advanced > Print Production > Output Preview, then click on Color Warnings. No highlight, no overprint.
Did you create a new black swatch for the text? InDesign overprints it's default [Black] by default, so if it's not overprinting something's quirky. Also, you're almost always better off exporting a PDF rather than printing to a PostScript file. Export using PDF/X-1a or the same joboptions file you used for Distilling. I doubt the Distilling vs Exporting is the cause of the lack of overprint.

  • Overprint issue in InDesign CS3

We had an issue of overprint off in color Black in InDesign CS2/CS3. But we enabled the Overprint in preference menu. We have placed the figure in InDesign and create PDF through postscript using Distiller 8.0. Open the PDF in Acrobat 8.0 professional and run the Preflight by using the option "List 100% black objects set to knock out". It shows an error of Overprint off only in figures but it does not show in text that is set in InDesign. Please help me to solve this issue.

    Bob,
Our client does not required for exported PDF and we've been asking to create postscript through PDF. The specification was supplied by printer to create postscript. Please let me know is there any variance between postscript through PDF and Export PDF?

  • Photoshop CC 2014: intermittent and unpredictable issues

My teachers and students are using Photoshop CC 2014, a recent upgrade for us from CS6. We are on Mac OSX 10.9.4 on MacBook Air laptops.
There appears to be a very real issue relating to Layers. Images that are dragged from one window to another (rather than copied and pasted) may disappear entirely. Changes in Layer states or from background to a floating layer, may also result in lost images. My initial thought was that this was related to somehow maxing out the video memory, however that does not seem to be the case: Saving and closing, then restarting the program shows the Layers to be empty. Sometimes, however, the image Layer icon still shows the layer to have the image (but no image is appearing on the actual layer.)
Selection tools – some of the selection tools take on a life of their own and create an unpredictable selection. For instance, using the Quick Selection Tool may look relatively accurate but upon release of the mouse will turn into large stair stepped, ziggurat shaped selections that bear almost no resemblance to the original selection.
Both of the above issues seem to be sporadic and unpredictable: one student may experience once, another may experience it five times in a row, while someone else may be totally unaffected.
There are also intermittent issues of Photoshop simply shutting down.
I'm looking at the possible re-imaging and re-installation of several thousand Macs and would greatly appreciate any insights here.

    factor path
Auto correction can be a tricky thing, huh?
When i'm copying factor path and paste on a new layer it creates a vector mask instead of just placing vector shape,
Do you mean a plain Path?
I suppose you could select/create a Path in the Paths Panel or deselect the Layer in the Layers Panel.

  • Overprint issue with white type.

We have been creating Digital PDF successfully for over 10 years. This is a problem that comes along once in a great blue moon.
Please read complete text before forming an opinion or answering the questions. The focus of these questions are on Digital AD's from outside vendors/customers.
We create our publications using Quark 6.5 on Windows XP
(We are locked into this version because of some other proprietary software tied into Quark, so upgrading Quark is not an option for us).
We compose a page of some type, some MAC EPS Illustrator 5.1  files and at least one Digital AD (PDF's which are  from our advertisers/customer that we pre-flight) on to the page.
Print the page to a postscript file, distill postscript file with Acrobat Distiller Ver. 7 on PC's into a PDF file with Crops and Registration Marks.
We got a PDF (Digital AD) from a customer that was created in InDesign CS6 on a Mac. There is some white type in the AD ( See Photo Below)
The Last "E" in Engineered is selected in each screen shot.
The Top one is the AD untouched before Pre-flighting it. The White Type "E" letter is set to knock out and is still type (not converted to outlines).
(Pitstop is showing this in the dialog box on the right)
In the Bottom screen shot the type has been converted to outlines and is set to overprint.
First problem is white type should never overprint. Unless you specifically set it to in the original program.
This type was originally set to knockout and then when it was distilled from a Postscript file from Quark into a PDF with "Preserve Overprint Settings" check in (Distiller Settings) the type is converted to outlines and the type was set to overprint.
(If I turn off "Preserve Overprint Settings" and re-distill the postscript file the type doesn't convert to outlines or change to overprint.... it remains a knockout.)
Second Problem is catching this while using preflight tools. I have Pitstop tools to show Overprinting and Acrobat has a Output Preview/Color Warnings/Show Overprinting feature too.
Using Pitstops Overprint does show it in the inspector window, but not a Pitstop report.
Acrobat's Show Overprinting does NOT show that the type has been set to overprint.
So our workflow now is to flag any white type and check it throughout the whole pre-press process to make sure the type holds the knockout function.
Below is a scan of how the type ran when it was printed on sheet feed printing press paper.
Talk about overprinting... this is not what it looked like in the above pictures.
I am aware of this problem from Illustrator. It's an order of operations when dealing with white type.
If you set type, change the color  to something other than 100% black and then convert it to outlines... it will knockout.
If you set type, convert to outlines and THEN change the color from black to white, it will hold the overprint from being black type.
It doesn't always do this every time, but it does happen enough that I have to double and triple check my white type.
    Questions:
Does anyone have this problem in their workflow (White Type Overprinting) and do you have a solution to better catch this when you have to process 50+ AD's each week?
Obviously anything with white type will be looked at much closer now that this AD got through. It would be nice if these settings would hold through the whole preflight to printed piece process.
Any Words of Wisdom would be appreciated too.

You can set Pitstop up to catch this and even fix it.
In the preflight profile, under 'Text', select 'White Text' and add it to the list of checks, you can also enable the fix as well so it's just resolved.
I'm using PitStop 11 update 2, but it's in earlier versions as well.
If you need futher information you can always drop me a mail. I am the Product Manager for PitStop, [email protected]

  • Transparency flattener/overprint issue?

as per my post title suggests i have experienced an issue that i think maybe something related to either the transparency flattener settings or overprint.
i have received some pdf files from a client which i put into indesign CS4. I add some company information and then output a pdf (export from indesign profile PDFX 1a 2001) ready for print.
when receiving the clients pdfs which i have noticed where created in CS5 have no overprint settings applied to the file at all. (See image below)
    Shot at 2011-10-27
after creating my pdf it has set elements to overprint. why is this? All i have done is add the original pdfs into indesign and output them again! is indesign managing the overprint settings without my knowledge? (See image below)
    Shot at 2011-10-27
All of this was brought to light after the job had been printed! but for some reason it has knocked out some of the elements set to overprint rather than over printed them. You will notice from the image below that the stars on the left have come out correct but the stars on the top right have not! apart from the part over the image.
    Shot at 2011-10-27
A colleague of mine at work seems to think the issue has something to do with the transparency flattener settings when a vector graphic connects with a bitmapped image.
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience into what has happened here and could help me resolve this issue from occuring in the future? as i need to provide an explanation to my client. as it has baffled my printer! and he has no answers!
    thanks in advance.
    Dazzlag

I’m asking because unless there’s a real good reason, you shouldn’t be flattening transparency yourself. In fact, fully modern workflows don’t flatten it at all.
And yes, it would be a good idea to find out what settings your client used. But my first guess is that they used transparency, not overprint to achieve that effect.

  • After Effects 2014 CC Ram Preview Issue

Ever since I upgraded to CC 2014(from CC) I have been experiencing an issue. My RAM preview will start somewhere in the middle of my in/out points. I have to wait for it to loop to see the beginning. I have tried checking/unchecking "from current time," I have tried cycling through the playback options, and I have tried clearing my cache. Nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • 2014 Quark conversion font issue

I am having issues with the new 2014 Creative Cloud Indesign software. It might occur in other programs, too, but I haven't experienced it, yet. I have old Quark documents that I have to open in InDesign. They opened fine in the version before 2014. However, when I open the quark documents in the 2014 version, some of the Spanish letters and accents are replaced with weird glyphs. So, I have to open these Quark documents in the older InDesign software. It's annoying b/c Adobe seems to have made it very difficult to open a file with the previous version.
So I'm not sure what to do. I can't even find that much information about it on Google. Are other people experiencing this problem?

  • 2014 icon editor layers issue

I have an issue with layers in the "Icon Editor" in LabView 2014 SP1.
Each time I use the Icon Editor and I save the changes, all layers are merged together also if the property "merge layer on commit" is unchecked.
In the previous releases (2013 SP1, 2011 SP1, ...), I could save the layers separately (not merged).
There is an other property to set the layers saved separately (not merged), or this is an unexpected behaviour?
    Asper

    PeterFoerster,
    thanks for the replay.
Starting from yours note, I started a completely new LV-project and the icon layers work fine!
Definitely, I experience the described issue with all VIs that are been created in LV 2013 SP1 and now are open and saved with LV 2014 SP1.
In the project created with LV 2013 SP1, and now open in LV 2014 SP1, if I create a new VI the the icon layers work fine!
    I use LV 2014 SP1 32 bit, English.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 skew layer action issue

    Hello,
I have a set of actions from previous version of PSD (CS6 > CC) which includes skewing a layer and placing it in an exact position. Worked like a charm.
Now, I have upgraded to CC 2014 and these actions are useless...
E.g. - what one action did in previous versions of PSD:
    two documents open in PSD:
    1) take open document > flatten > image size to width 1000px keep ascpect ratio > select all > Ctrl+C
    2) select previous documet > paste > move > free transform including skew
Result in previous versions of PSD was exactly the same. In PSD CC 2014 the skew is different (incorrect) and the placement of the transformed layer is wrong.
Tried to create the same action in the new PSD CC 2014 and the result was the same. Even more - the new transformed layer is placed as if chaotically depending on the zoom of the document it transformed in.
Any suggestions, please? I am quite desperate - I need to process large numbers of files this way...
THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP
    Tom
Correct result from previous versions of PSD:
Error result in PSD CC 2014:

If your are replacing the wall image with image files that are the same size an resolution.   Have you tried placing the image in the PSD file as a smart object layer,  Then record the action to use replace smart object layer content.  Rather then pasting in a new image layer and transforming the new layer.   Since the problem you seem to have is the transform step is not working correctly.  Recording transform steps can also be tricky.  You need to have set Photoshop's ruler units so the step is recorded the way it need to be. Transforms can be recorded using absolut pixel values, relitive to document size in percentages and in relative units like inches which depends on the document DPI resolutio. • SQL Server Express 2005 to 2014 upgrade and Uninstallation issues

We have client application running SQL Server Express that connects to a SQL Server 2012 server.  We are attempting to upgrade from Microsoft SQL 2005 express to Microsoft SQL Server 2014
express – but are having difficulties – especially with uninstall.
Our understanding is that we needed to follow the following steps:
First we install Microsoft SQL 2005 express SP4 as required silently
    Start /wait SQLEXPR.exe /qn ACTION=UPGRADE INSTANCENAME="SQLEXPRESS" UPGRADE=SQL_Engine SAPWD=<password>
    SQLACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" SQLPASSWORD= SECURITYMODE="SQL"
Then try upgrading with Microsoft SQL Server 2014 express, we use following command to do it silently
    SQLEXPR.exe /q /ACTION=upgrade /INSTANCENAME=SQLEXPRESS /ISSVCAccount="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS
    We see following
In Control Panel -> Uninstall or change program, we have all the instances listed 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2014.
How do we uninstall the instance?  , We try uninstalling 2014
But it is not cleanly uninstalled.
    Questions:
Is there any way for clean upgrade from Microsoft SQL 2005 express SP3 to Microsoft SQL 2014 express?
Is there any specific steps suggested to uninstall upgraded SQL 2014 express from system?
Are we doing anything wrong in commands for silent upgrade?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
After you perform an in-place upgrade it’s normal to find the binaries and references of the old version of SQL Server on the Start Menu and Control Panel -> Programs and Features. That’s by design. After you have successfully upgraded an instance, you can
    remove the old binaries.
IfIf you find some remnants after uninstalling SQL Server 2014, please perform the following steps to manually uninstall it:
    1. Uninstall all SQL Server 2014 components you can using Control Panel -> Programs and
    Features
    2. Backup the registry.
    3. Delete the following keys in regedit:
        --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
        --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
    4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete
all the sub-keys referencing SQL Server.
    5. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and delete all the keys referencing
    SQL Server.
    6. Rename all the SQL Server folders in the computer like
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server and subfolders.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 Paths and Stroke Issues

    Hi!
    The first issue:
When i'm copying factor path and paste on a new layer it creates a vector mask instead of just placing vector shape, is there any solution on how to disable it? In 2013 version and older it just worked.
    And the second issue:
I work with very tall documents and when I make any changes to any shape's stroke PS just moves me to the center of the document. It's really annoying. Any solutions?

  • SQL Server 2014 Express (32 bit) issues with Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro

Hello, I am trying to create a sample data warehouse and some reports etc to demonstrate SQL server and subsequent automation to a company I am working for.  I am trying to import data from the company's VFP based software into a new SQL Server database.
(please note, this is not custom developed software, so i am unable to push the data from VPF)

No, I attempted to use the Microsofl OLE DB Provider for Visual Fox Pro to access the .dbf from Excel,
and it behaved identically to the way it did in SQL Server.
I can use the Microsoft Excel Data source in SQL Server to link an excel file to SQL Server perfectly fine.

    Try
settings - general - reset - reset network settings.
