CC 2014: Saving Workspace doesn't (really) save it. Ugh!

Drives me crazy.  I'm working in a big 3d project with lots of nested comps. I set up my two screens with locked viewers showing the two essential comps, usually in two views -- active camera and custom view. It takes time to set this up.  I save the workspace, but when I reopen AE and select the saved workspace it doesn't give me anything like the elaborate workspace I set up and saved with all the viewers I carefully set.
Is there any way to REALLY save a workspace, because right now it looks as if the only way to save it is NOT to close AE. Ever. Until I'm done with the project.

Hi
And velcome to this forum.
Sounds very irritating. Only time I got this kind of problem was when I used
an external hard disk. Sound and audio should be integrated in the same file
but it is most certainly more to that.
I had my Camera connected to my ext hd and from this to my Mac.
This is a way to work with some Canon Cameras but nothing I suggest.
Now I connect my Camera to my Mac and do the import/capture to the internal
disk drive (nothing external connected but the Camera).
Then if I must I move the movie project out to the external disk for editing
but I try to make space on the internal one to be able to work there most
of the time.
Other origins to "wandering audio":
- to little free space on the internal hard disk (more than 20Gb recommended)
- wrong mix of program versions
(Mac OS X.4.8 + iMovie 6.0.3 + QT 7.1.3 (or 7.1.2 - there can be problems
with both of them) I use this mix and it works OK for me.
Please keep in tuch and tell on progress.
Yours Bengt W

  • InDesign 2014 - how do I keep my saved workspace as the default?

Every time I open InDesign 2014 it defaults to "Essential" workspace. In the old version it would stay at my saved workspace. How do I fixe this?

OH OH I got it to work!! I STARTED from the Advanced workspace and then customized it then saved it, quit, opened it and the new workspace was there. So something funky is going on with the Essential workspace but now all is well. Next I try turning Suitcase back on. And...YES! it still works! YAY!
    Thank you for your help.

  • Save Workspace doesn't save anything

I'm using CS3 and can't get Illustrator (or Photoshop for that matter) so save a workspace. I set up the program the way I want it, then save the workspace. However, when I recall the workspace, nothing is saved. It just loads the Illustrator default settings.
I've read this is an issue that hasn't been fixed officially. Seems rather an important setting for the program.
Does anyone have any tips to fix this situation? When I was using CS2, Illustrator wouldn't pre-load my default workspace either. But, at least when I manually loaded it, the program would load what I had set up.
    Help!

I have no knowledge on this matter regarding AI 13 (CS3), but I can tell you the save workspace feature works fine for me in AI 12.
    >When I was using CS2, Illustrator wouldn't pre-load my default workspace either.
That's not the way it works. When you recall a saved workspace, AI writes the settings to aiprefs when you quit the program. The new settings are loaded from aiprefs,
not your saved workspace, the next time you start up AI.
Recalling a saved workspace, therefore, is functionally equivalent to changing palette locations, etc., manually. Either way, Illustrator should start up the next time with the settings as they were when you last quit.
By any chance, do you shut down Windows without properly exiting Illustrator?

  • Workspace doesn't fit the screen anymore...

    Hello.
Since today (and Mac OS X's update I installed this morning, I guess), my Photoshop CS6 workspace doesn't fit the screen of my 12 inch Cintiq (connected to a 2014 Macbook Air).  No matter what I do, it keeps it wrong.
Trying to set the photoshop window to the whole Cintiq screen with the "green" Mac OS corner button, this is what I get:
Hitting F won't do the trick, this is what it gets me:
I tried to clear the Photoshop prefs, without success.  I checked for updates and found there was a Photoshop update I had not yet installed, and I did install it, to no success.  Needless to say, this makes my copy of Photoshop most unusable, which is a really big problem for an illustrator like me.  I really wish I can solve this as soon as possible.
    Thanks.

Yeah, no results. Still the same.
If I take my main window and move it up by myself, it's just gonna stay there until the next click somewhere, then it gets back to this wrong placement,.

  • Saving Workspaces in Illustrator CS5

I am currently running Mac OS 10.6.3 and Illustrator CS5. Every time I change the workspace and save it, it is nowhere to be found let alone loaded. Any solutions?

    Saved workspace file can be found @ "<Curent User>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings/en_US/Workspaces".
If you are not finding the saved workspace here and in Windows->Workspace menu of illustrator then try deleting preferences and then launch illustrator.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - my workspace keeps going black

    - When working in Photoshop CC 2014 - my workspace keeps going black while i'm trying to work on an image. For example, this morning I was simply trying to add some text to an image using layers but while typing the text in the workspace (the actual image) goes completely black and I have to either click out of it or wait for the image to come back so that I can see what I'm doing. Having used various versions of Photoshop I know this is not normal. Can anyone suggest what my issue could be.

Your graphics card drivers need to be updated.
    Here's how:
    Upgrade Display Drivers
    Windows OS
    Click Start.
On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the Display tab.
On the Display tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the Device section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has.
Once you know the kind of graphics card you have, visit the manufacturer's website to download the latest driver. Here are links for downloading drivers from the most common graphics card manufacturers:

  • Transferring saved workspaces, brushes, scripts, etc. from CS6 to CC on a PC using Windows 7

This is what I came up with...
Transfer saved workspaces, brushes, scripts, etc. from CS6 (Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) to CC on a PC using Windows 7.
Go to start menu < computer < (OS) C: drive < documents and settings* < user (your user name) < application data** < adobe < adobe illustrator (or adobe photoshop)***
*To see the ‘documents and settings’ folder, I had to go to start menu < control panel < folder options –  select view tab – uncheck hide protected operating system files (recommended). The computer will prompt you to go ahead, say ‘yes’ then hit apply.
** There is another folder above ‘application data’ named ‘appdata’, this is not the correct folder.
    * & ** I could not access these folders no matter what user settings I selected or logged in as administrator. I did an internet search and found the following successful:
If the the folder denies you access to share… right click on the folder < select properties < select the ‘security’ tab < click the ‘edit’ button < select any and all users named ‘everyone’ < select ‘remove’
After I removed the ‘everyone’ users, I was able to successfully share the folder to my user and access.
*** I did not have an ‘adobe indesign’ folder, scrolling down the list it was labeled just as ‘indesign’. So was ‘bridge’, ‘dreamweaver’, etc.
INDESIGN: Below are my exact paths for my particular system:
< adobe < Indesign (inside this folder I have three folders: Version 7.0, Version 8.0 and Version 9.0 – which correlates? to CS5, CS6 and CC.) < Version 8.0 < en_US < Workspaces (inside this folder I have two files of each workspace – for example named: ‘xyz.xml’ and ‘xyz_CurrentWorkspace.xml’, I don’t why there are two similarly named files??, so I copied both and pasted both (and it worked.)
< copy the workspaces you want to bring into CC
    >Go back, to the Indesign folder and then to < Version 9.0 < en_US < Workspaces and paste the workspaces.
I did the same for scripts: copied from the Version 8.0 folder to the Version 9.0 folder *Please note that, with updated versions, your scripts may not work…
    < Version 8.0 < en_US < scripts < scripts panel (copy scripts.)
You can do the same for Greps, Glyphs, Find/Change, etc.
I copied entire folders over from the en_US folders: ‘Indesign Shortcut Sets’ and ‘Glyph sets’
PHOTOSHOP: Below are my exact paths for my particular system: * please note I also have a ‘photoshop’ folder in the ‘adobe’ folder, which did not have what I was looking for to carry over.
< adobe < adobe photoshop CS6 < adobe photoshop CS6 settings – copy all files < go back to adobe < adobe photoshop CC < adobe photoshop CC settings – paste all files

To turn off UAC, go to the Control Panel, then User Accounts.
Under the header, "Make changes to your user account", there is an entry titled "Change User Account Control Settings".
Pick it, and drag the slider all the way down to "Never Notify".

  • Saved Searches in Open and Save Dialogs?

Has anyone else notices that saved searches fail in Open/Save Dialogs?
I've got a date-based saved search that I've placed in the "Places" section of the sidebar — why? Because I felt like it.
However, when I access this saved search, I get incorrect results — or results from day or two ago.
I swear at one point that this functioned correctly.
    Am I missing something?

  • Bottom guide in workspace doesn't appear

I have been using InDesign CS3 and have just installed InDesign CS5.5 which I am now using.  When I open a new document the workspace doesn't show the bottom guide at all, the guide which has the page number, slider, etc.  How do I get it to appear and stay there as a default?
    Thanks,
    Kirsten

There are significant differneces between the interface of CS3 and CS5.5. Everything is still there, but some of it has moved. What is your operating sytem?

  • When I close firefox it doesn't really close it seems to be hidden. Then when I try to start it again I have to Alt, Ctrl, Del, go to process , turn it off then hit it to start again. I can not get it to open in the hidden process that it is in

Apparently when I close Firefox it doesn't really close. I get told when I try to open Firefox later "Firefox is still open, you must close Firefox, Then reopen it. Then I hit Alt, Ctrl & Del, go to process's then I have to close it then reopen it. It does not open until it is closed in process's.

The process can take a few seconds to close. Sometimes you need to use Task Manager.

In a finder window highlight and right click the folder you are trying to save to and select Get Info. In the window that opens look at the bottom to see if you have Read/Write permissions. If you don't click the Plus sign and add your Admin Username to the list and give it full Read/Write permissions.
Open Disk Utility and on the First Aid tab select Repair Permissions and let it run.
