Thank You Mylenium..I will see what is involved in re-install.
Have noted that the volumes are sporadically re-organized under System Finder window after using a file sometimes.
Fille Permissions are often not correct and change without authorization both in systems files and within indvidual applications' children files.  I will continue to pursue this vein...
but doesn't a re-install use existent permissions?
I am in way over my head here and know it!...

  • CC Applications PS, etc no launch in new install of ML on Imac Platform Cfg error: 213:5

Standard Adobe answer for this kind of issue is "Contact Our Product Support".
. after performing all the recommendations on the Adobe Community and Product support information resources. I went to the live support and spent 3 hours on line with Product Support "techs" Finally after last 2 hour session with Indian gentleman who could barely speak intelligible English...after he went through same routines that I had performed. (After took control of my desktop), he Changed config files by entitling them with bogus titles, asking me to trash the files, then re-title his newly authored files to the title he had trashed....(old trick) then tells me to empty trash... He did this a couple of times and I lost track of the data changes made.  Then he reported that he could not fix the issue and he would cause the case to be elevated  to a more experienced support person...AND THAT ADOBE WOULD GET BACK TO ME WITHIN 24-48 HOURS. He exited his control of my system from the desktop and left the scene. A case WAS OPENED AND I RECEIVED NO NOTICE OF ANY KIND FROM ADOBE.
This morning about 44 hours after he elevated the case...I checked on it by logging on and found a case file SURPRISE SUPRISE..no new information.  I elaborated a little more on the urgency of finding a solution to the problem and mentioned that the 48-hour clock was about to run out on the issue...I NOTE now that a new case number was assigned for SAME EXACT ISSUE AND it was re-assigned a new case number!  THE OLD CASE (unsolved and apparently unattended) WAS DISMISSED!
Does this mean that I have another 48 hour waiting period?  This configuration error has existed on all CC apps that I have tried except Lightroom.  Since upgrading to Apple's Mountain Lion OS for IMAC, I have not been able to run my onboard application CS5.1 PS.  The application installation disc is ejected within 3 or 4 minutes after insertion in the DVD drive.  So I am unable to operate my PS which I have used and contiguously updated since 1991.
Please suggest other alternatives..or if similar experience an approach strategy to solving this issue.

Thank You very much Mandeep 5062 will pursue this vein...first off the time is within .3 seconds of the USGov.com national time standard.  It is in complete (to the second) accord with Verizon Time standard. NOt much way to get time any more accurate.
I will look into error codes..but I have followed Adobe remedy (cookbook) for Error Cod 213.5. Nonetheless, this is a valuable page for future reference.  Thank you again.
I am now off to Apple.com to pursue issues of what appear to be sporadic-assignments of volumes at both system and Application-level files.  This may be related to unstable and unauthorized pemissions assignments to both system-level and application specifiic level files.
Thank you again for your help

Yes. I got it too.. I searched the forums and got this - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 93#p930493
Apparently, calibre package needs to be rebuilt (because of change in libs). Either you can wait till it is rebuilt and is available to upgrade.. Or you can install the AUR package.. I'm installing the calibre-bzr package from AUR now.

Have a  problem with Lightroom 5.4.  Since the program crashed yesterday it won't launch, it comes up with the message "Lightroom encountered an error when reading its preview cache and needs to quit".  "  Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem next time it launches".  Except that it doesn't, I keep getting the same message and the program closes.  Does anyone know what I  can do to repair it?  Can't back up, can't do anything.

  • Application (Civ 4) won't launch

Hi, strangely (and frustratingly) Civ 4 suddenly won't launch for me; no error message, nothing, it just bounces a few times in the dock and stops. I've never had any problems before. I found a few similar threads here, and followed the advice there, but nothing seems to help. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, I've verified that I have the latest software updates, and have repaired permissions (twice, once in safe mode). Not sure what else to do. I'm a relative mac newbie, so advice for dummies would be appreciated!
I have a MacBook Pro, running Mac OS X 10.4.11, 2.2 GHz Intel processor, with 4 GB of RAM and 35 GB of free memory. Never had any similar problems, this just popped up out of the blue, and only seems to affect this one application. Thanks for any help, David

Here's the crash log from attempt to launch Civ4 Warlords. I note that this was the first time I tried to launch is after installing the new Quicktime 7.6.

  • Address Book Won't Launch after re-installing system.

Hope someone has a suggestion here. I just installed a new HD and made a nice clean install of system, starting with original that came with my 1st edition G5 Tower and then upgraded to 10.3, then to 10.4.11 (which is where I stop), performing the Apple Software updates along the way. Everything seems to be fine. Boots extremely fast, just like when it was a baby.
Everything except Address Book. I had been importing e-mails, etc. from my 2nd HD so that I could erase it and went to import from my old Address Book and it won't launch. Does the little animation in the Dock, but immediately quits. If I try to open it through Mail, it immediately kills the Mail application.
I really don't want to have to go through the lengthy installation process again. Does anone have any thoughts as to what might be causing this? Even the version of Address Book on my 2nd HD is doing the same thing.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Jim C.

Ok. For those who are interested, I did a search and was able to find some things to look for. Bottom line is that it is now fixed. For some reason, the required info was not contained within the new system's Application Support directory. In comparing the same directory on both the new system and the one on my 2nd HD, I discovered that there was only one thing in the new directory, while the directory of the other system had many things (including Address Book and DVD Player).
I hadn't yet launched DVD Player since installing, when I did, I got an error indicating that there was an error starting DVD Player. I copied the directory from the 2nd system into the Application Support on the new system and it then launched instantly.
I'm not sure why these things didn't get placed in Application Support under normal installation, but that is what the problem was.

  • Indesign CS5 won't launch on new MB Pro 10.8

After migrating Creative Suite 5 Premium from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to new Macbook Pro 10.8.5 Indesign won't launch while all other components do. I've posted the crash report at http://pastebin.com/JrVw4Sm4. Can anyone help with this problem?
I've already browsed the forum but didn't really got a clue how to sort it out. The original software was downloaded from adobe.subscribenet.com three years ago and doesn't seem to be available anymore for reinstallation. Product keys are in place...
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks for your replies.
    @Ankit:
Tried and removed the SING Datastore but still doesn't work.
    @Salah
    Updating also didn't work.
    @Bob
I would have tried new installation but unfortunately don't have access to the original media installed from an electronic download. All I want to do is moving all applications from an old 13" MB Pro 10.6.8 to a new 10.8.5 and make sure they run within the new system before cleaning up the old one. Any idea what the specific problem is with InDesign since all other applications are running smoothly?

  • IWork apps won't launch after new HD installed

My hard drive was failing so all files were backed up to an external hard drive (don't know what method - the Mac store did it for me) then moved to the new hard drive. Now the iWork apps won't launch. Doesn't matter which account I use and makes no difference if I boot in Safe Mode. I've updated iWork and still no difference. The icon flashes a couple of times on the dock, then disappears. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you say you updated iWorks are you talking about the update a few days ago? How about just reinstalling the applications?

  • FCP won't launch on new Mac Pro Tower

I just got a new Mac Pro Tower and installed Final Cut Studio, but Final Cut Pro won't launch. It just hangs on the opening splash screen and I can't even force quit out of it. Same thing happens if I try to open an FCP project. I have run all the updates, trashed prefs, etc.
    Any ideas?

OK....so I think I found the problem even though it makes no sense to me. It seems that if I have my DVCam deck (which is connected via a 4-pin firewire to 9-pin firewire cable) powered on while I try to launch FCP, it causes FCP to hang on the splash screen. If I turn the deck off, and launch FCP, it launches perfectly.....and it continues to work after I power the deck on. Very bizarre behavior but I have tested it about 5 times now and it works fine when the deck is powered off and hangs when the deck is powered on. Anybody else have a simliar issie?

  • Finder won't launch after re-install 7.1

I reinstalled QT 7.1 after having problems with 7.2. I was getting only audio and no video. After the reinstall I rebooted and now the finder won't launch so I can't see my hard drive or any icons on my desktop. And oddly enough the only app that will open is safari and quicktime now works!
What have I done and any clue on what just happened?

There is no "re-install" of older software versions allowed in OS X.
The only safe way to revert to previous versions is by Archive and Install using the Tiger DVD.

  • IPhoto won't open after new install and restore of back-up

    Hi guys
My hard drive just died (for the second time in 6 months!) so I have just gotten the computer back with a new drive. I did a new install of Tiger from my original install CDs, did the download thing to get all the updates, and ran a "restore" from my external drive using iBackup (http://www.grapefruit.ch/iBackup//index.html) to restore all my previous system settings, documents, etc. So far this seems to have worked well, a couple of 3rd party applications didn't re-install - specifically Neo Office and WiFind - but I was able to manually install those and everything seems to be working fine.
Except iPhoto. It won't open. When I click the dock icon it bounces once and does nothing. No little arrow under it or anything. Nothing at all happens when I click the icon in Finder (in the Applications folder). When I searched it in spotlight it told me there was a file called iphoto.crash.log, so I went and had a look at that hoping it would tell me the problem, but I don't understand it. I'm not particularly good at the behind the scenes stuff with computers.
Wondering what I should do now - if someone can perhaps interpret the log file and find the issue if that would help, or if I should uninstall and re-install iPhoto by itself (and if so, how?), or if there is something else that may be causing the issue. I noticed there are a few files relating to it when I search with spotlight but I don't know which of them might be relevant. I could post a screenshot if that is allowed, or post the log file if it would help?
Thanks in advance for any advice or help!
    Regards,
    Chloë

    400 Updates???
Did you Repair Permissions before & after each one?
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • After  Yosemite apple apps ( appstore, safari, terminal, etc) won't launch, just bounces once.

I have a MBP Retina mid 2012. Since I've installed Yosemite, safari, Calendar and app store ( and others ) stopped launching. also apps as "terminal" and "about this mac", they just bounces once and never opens. Since I cant open app store I wont ever be able to download any updates.
    Somebody HELP ME PLEASE!

You probably ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Spotlight during start up "Quit Unexpectedly"- Finder, etc won't launch...

    Hi,
During start up, I get a crash dialog with the Ignore/Report/Relaunch buttons. Ignore and Relaunch don't do any good. Report says very little (and it cut off when I printed it, so I'll need to go back for more...)- the part I can read says:
    Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/QuickLook.framework/Versions...
    Referenced from: /System/Library/CoreServices/Spotlight.app/MacOS...
    Reason: image not found
By the way, printing works, and printing to a file lets me pick the location to save.
Finder/Desktop and Dock aren't loading, but the Menu Bar is showing up so I can get to System Preferences from there. Clicking on Spotlight from System Preferences shows the dialog "Preferences Error: Could not load Spolight Preference Pane".
The issue is the same in my Admin account as well. Since I can get into System Prefs, I imagine I could set up another user.
Do I need to re-install the OS? Or, could I just go grab Spotlight.prefPane from a working Leopard install?
Also, what's up with this anyway?
    Thanks!
    Guy

Problem solved. The Adobe chat support proposed a few solutions (reinstall, reactivate, repair disk permission) and the last solution works. Managed to get Acrobat to work through the following steps:
    1) Un-install Acrobat X
    2) Create a new account with Administrator rights
    3) Log out and login using new account
    4) Install Acrobat X
    5) Launch Acrobat X
Acrobat works on the new account but the same problem persists on the old account. Both accounts have the same administrator rights, but according to Adobe chat support, there's a difference between a built-in Admin and newly created Admin on mac which I have absolute no idea.
Anyway I just migrated my data from the old account to the new account to make everything work
