CC Bridge JPEG Preview Problems

Hello - I'm trying to organize a massive number of image files. For some reason certain files that are labeled as ".jpg" or ".jpeg" will preview while others won't.
I can rename them with the other jpeg extension and the previews re-appear, but then all the other files in the folder - which I didn't rename - lose there previews. If I try to launch the file - which was fine previously, it says the JPEG marker is unknown or invalid.
Also - if  leave a folder and then go back to it...eventhough I was able to see everything two minutes ago, when I click in, I literally get a glimpse of the previews before they all start changing to the JPEG icon.  THIS IS A MASSIVE PROBLEM.
It's a terrible cycle and is really causing problems in my workflow.
Please advise.
Thanks.
Kevin

Hello - I'm trying to organize a massive number of image files. For some reason certain files that are labeled as ".jpg" or ".jpeg" will preview while others won't.
Can you provide more details about system, version and exact version of Bridge you are using?
Wat is a massive number in your opinion?
in general, all files need an extension to let the system recognize the file type. For a jpeg file this would mean the extension '.jpg' as last part of the file name. It is also a bad idea to use more dots in a filename because after a dot the system expects an extension to determine the file type.
Can you provide an example of your renaming scheme or a screenshot?
Renaming in batch should ideally be done leaving the existing file extension as it is. If the file is a jpeg by origin you can add the .jpg extension again but for converting filetypes you have to open them in PS and use a save as command including the selection of the wanted file type.

I use Bridge CS5 with camera raw 6.7.1 in combibnation with a canon 6D and a canon 5D Mark2. The raw files from the 5D are shown in bridge, the raw files from the 6D are not. There is just an icon. The camera raw add-on is the latest usable update for Windows, the canon 6d is listed as compatible. Has anyone an idea what to do?
The Canon 6D id NOT supported by ACR 6.7.1. It was supported for the very first time in ACR 7.3 whch requires CS6 to run.
Therefore you will never be able to open raw CR2 files from the 6D directly in CS5.
If you do not plan on upgrading, you can download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (always use the latest version, it's not tied to your version of Photoshop at all), install it like any other application and then run it on each batch of CR2 files to convert them to raw DNG files that you can then open in your version of Photoshop and ACR.

  • Bridge CS5 preview problems.

    Hello, all.
I am experiencing a problem with CS5 I didn't have before when running CS4. After downloading all CR2 files from my Canon DSLR I am not able to display the previews as sharp as they always were. I can open these images in Photoshop CS5 or even in Apple's own Preview application as sharp as they can be. However, I can't seem to be able to do the same with Bridge.
So far I've tried the following without any success:
    1. Preferences > Thumbnails
         - Entered 200000 MB under "Do Not Process Files Larger Than:"
    2. Preferences > Cache
         - Checked option "Keep 100% Previews In Cache"
    3. On Bridge's Menu (upper control bar), selected:
         - "Always High Quality"
         - "Generate 100% Previews"
After selecting all the options above I've tried purging and then rebuilding the cache but it didn't seem to improve. As I select slideshow display mode to see the images enlarged to full screen size the images once again appear soft and out of focus.
Any ideas as to what might be the problem ?
In case the information is relevant I am using an Apple 30" Cinema Display.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Smash87,
Thanks for your reply and suggestion.
I have already tried what you suggested but it didn't work at first. I will try it again just to see if it works this time but to be frank I don't expect it will.
Another problem is the fact that I didn't have this issue with CS4 which is the version you are using. The problem appeared once I switched to CS5. The fact that your issue was resolved in CS4 is no guarantee the same will happen to CS5. In fact, it is almost a given it will not considering Adobe's track record with Bridge. Every new version of Bridge brings along with it a new set of problems and challenges. I am really getting tired of it. Now please keep in mind that my collection of images includes a few thousands of folders each containing anywhere between 200 and 1000 images. Adobe shouldn't have to force a customer to have to purge the cache and rebuild all previews when this customer (as it is my case) has thousands of folders and/or images. This is just insane.
They really need to get this application working right. One would imagine that it would have happened by now since they have already had 5 versions of this application to do it plus the file browser application experience before Bridge was formally introduced. So, what is happening Adobe ???
Thanks again for your help and suggestion.

Just out of curiosity, what was so awfully penalizing reponsiveness in ACR 6.0 ?
And, does Lightroom use the same internal 8bi plugin file to do the processing or do I have tu update Lightroom separately to get the responsiveness back ?
I don't know what they did, but I assume they rewrote some of the code which deals with some of the new process calculations and previewing, to be more processor-efficient.
Lightroom doesn't use the plug-in, as far as I know. I'd guess that would need a separate update. I haven't got it. You could tell us if it's any faster.

  • Raw file thumbnail and preview problem in Bridge

When downloading raw files from my new Nikon D3, Bridge generates thumbnails that are a fixed size and the preview panel only shows a thumbnail as opposed to enlarging the image to fit the preview panel. Thumbnails and Preview still work fine with jpegs. My versions of CS3, Bridge and Version Cue are up to date, I believe.
    Thanks...

    Three things:
    • You need to make sure you have updated to Photoshop 10.0.1, Bridge 2.1.1.9 and Camera Raw (ACR) 4.6.
    • You need to purge the cache for the offending folders through the Tools menu in Bridge.
    • You need the Bridge forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge/bridge_macintosh?view=discussions&start=0#
Please post there if you need further Bridge help.
Raw files from the D300 are not supported by the old, obsolete version of ACR that gets installed by default by CS3.  What you're seeing now is the embedded JPEG preview only, not the converted raw.   That's why you have to upgrade to ACR 4.6

  • Bridge CS5 Memory Problems

Bridge has been flawless until the last couple days where it now crashes with teh message "You're running low on memory." Then it crashes.
More info: For the last few weeks I've been shooting a lot with large RAW files. The problem began when it would write JPEG previews and just as it was almost done, it would crash. Now the problem happens almost immediately.
    Please help!
I have a 2009 dual Quad CoreIntel Xeon with 16 gigs of RAM. Plenty of hard disk space.
    Thanks.

    I'm now confused.
    No need for that.
that folder and next to it it says how long before all the thumbnails have
been extracted. I suppose that means it's writing JPEG previews to the cache.
It does not say how long but how many there are left needing cache and yes,
it means writing to the cache. Depending on your settings (Always High
Quality - takes longer - or Embedded preview - takes shorter-) and file size
it may take a little longer.
As for a customized workspace, again, I'm not sure what you mean. I view the
images as thumbnails and then off to the right I have a larger window with one
    image in view.
Here you can win a lot in improving working with Bridge. On top of the
Bridge Window is a workspace bar, by default starting with essentials I
believe. Click on the triangle and a list with more workspaces shows. Drag
the double line left to the workspace name to extend the row of names
    showing.
But here is the good part. When you move your mouse carefully over the
borders (horizontal and vertical) you see the sign to drag the borders
appear. With this you can resize the panel to what you want. Then when
satisfied you can save this new lay out as a customize workspace (menu under
    the triangle from above).
Click and drag the tabs of a panel to another location shows a blue line. A
single line means between the existing panels, a surrounding line means
panels as tabs to choose from.
I don't use DNG. I just stick with the original RAW file from Canon.
No problem, I prefer the DNG conversion because it is an open standard that
is likely to stay around longer then the ever changing CR2 files that need
an updated Raw converter for each new camera model.
But main reason is that it saves the XMP data for the Raw conversion in the
file itself and therefore there is no need for XMP side car files.
I also use Adobe Photodownloader for this job, in one go back up original
CR2 to a separate disk, convert to DNG and rename the files with shot date
and number and add a copyright template to it.

  • Photoshop saving and preview problem in Mavericks

Using photoshop CS3 in Mavericks and I get a ‘can't save file because it is already in use or was left open’ message when I try and save a photoshop file.
Found a fix online which is to turn off ‘Show preview column’ in show view options, but this is a pain because I like to have the preview with image and file info.
Is there a way around this, seems a strange way to get around this problem.

  • Bridge CS6 cache problem causes freeze

MacPro early 2008, 10 mb RAM, Apple OSX 10.7.3, CS5 already installed.
CS6 Beta was working fine until today.
Now when I open Bridge CS6 I get "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation."  I then try to purge the cache, but nothing happens and Bridge freezes.
Worse, I cannot use my keyboard at all or perform any mouse click actions if Bridge is the active window.  I cannot close Bridge.  What I can do is alt/tab to another window, and then Force Close Bridge.
I have tried restarting the MacPro but this does not solve the problem.
The problem started earlier today after I re-edited a nef which I had previously edited in ACR 6.  I cancelled all the previous edits first.
Also, yesterday I installed Little Snitch, which I have now uninstalled.
There are no CrashReporter logs for the freezing problem.

How is your disk free space?   When I loaded Bridge CS6 the default option was for 100% preview.  That takes a lot of time and space to build.  Can occupy gigs of space.
I reset thumbnails to embedded.  Much smaller and faster and for me works just fine.

  • Bridge CS5 previews soft, any recommendations.

    I'm on 10.6.3 running Photoshop CS5/Bridge CS5.
My canon 5D mkII raw files are soft in Bridge's main preview window and they are also soft in the main preview in Camera Raw, even though these images are sharp as a razor, I have to actually open the files in Photoshop to check sharpness, which is just no good when Im dealing with hundreds of files.
So are there any preferences I can try to give me a high quality preview in Camera Raw & Bridge's preview windows?
As it is right now, all the preferences are set at default.

I resolved the problem, to get sharp previews in Bridge and the Camera window click the Generate Monitor Sized Preview option in Bridge preferences in the advanced pane, then purge the cache the close Bridge, all should be good after that.

  • Cannot open CS6 Bridge.  Always the same ERROR: Bridge has a problem and cannot read the cache

Cannot open CS6 Bridge.  Always the same ERROR: Bridge has a problem and cannot read the cache

Try this.  This is for CS6 but substitue CC and Bridge 6.
~library/caches/Adobe/Bridge CS6 and inhere should be 2 files:
    Adobe Bridge Plug-in Cache
and the folder called Cache. Inhere should be 4 folders called '254', '1024', 'data' and 'full'
All those folders carry the content of the respective quality of the thumbs and preview as well as 100 % cache and Bridge database.
Any way, Since you have not used Bridge you have no relevant amount of cache and I would suggest you quit both PS and Bridge and manual delete both the items (plug in and folder called cache at the end of the Bridge CS6 path mentioned above.
(both files will refresh itself after a restart of Bridge).
To be on the save side also visit in same user library the folder Preferences and look for the file called "com.adobe.bridge5.plist" (yes it is Bridge 5 that comes with CS6, all Adobe apps have their own version number and they are presented in the same Suite version. CS6 has PS version 13 and Bridge version 5 )
also drag this file to the trash.
Then hold down option key (alt) while starting Bridge and this should give you the option to reset the preferences as mentioned earlier in this thread.
Choose reset prefs and try again.

  • Bridge CS6 Cache problem

Have installed Photoshop CS6 and in using Bridge I get the message "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation". If purge the central cache as instructed, on the start up of Bridge I get the same message and are unable to use Bridge.
I am on a Mac using OSX 10.7.4
    Your help will be appreciated

"Removing the Cache manual is fast, you only need time to rebuild cache,
but that is something you can do with one click on the button an let it
run overnight."  How do I do that?
The path provided is for a Mac, there should be a similar path for Windows, maybe Curt can provide you this. The principals stay the same, you quit bridge, dump the cache file manual, restart Bridge (builds a new, empty but fresh cache folder) and when you point Bridge to a folder it start building the cache according your settings (ACR, HQ preview etc.)
If you have a lot of subfolders just select the main folder, use the menu view / show items from subfolders and this means your main folder shows all the content of your subfolders in the content panel.
This takes a while and according to your amount of files and file size as well as processor speed it can take several hours before it is finished. For best practice start this procedure as 'last of the day', leave your PC on for the night and let Bridge do its job. It takes a lot of resources and time for Bridge to cache so if it is the only task your PC has to do the better it will do it

  • Bridge not previewing full InDesign spread

I am having a problem with Bridge not previewing the will Indesign spread, it only shows the first page, is there a fix?

The answer is no. Sadly Adobe cancelled the spread preview with CS5. InDesign saves only single page previews into the indd-file. Actually I discuss this topic in the InDesign forum because imho its a preview image issue of InDesign (fron CS5 till now). Perhaps you can tell your story over there. I think the moderator there thinks that its just me wanting the spread view in Bridge.
