CC Particle World crashing system after clean reinstall

I was having some issues with my new mac, CS4 was running crashy after a big crash with system that occured when closing out the OS. Apple had me erase and reinstall the operating system. I reinstalled CS4, everything seemed to go smoothly. My after effects project I was working on before the reinstall opened up fine, but when I went to turned off the Live Update switch I got an error message (which i unfortunately did not write down). I restarted the computer, did not get the error message when flipping the live update switch, but I tried to apply cc particle world to a solid and I got the error message "After Effects error: crash occured while invoking effect plug-in "CC Particle World"" and it crashed out of after effects auto saving the file. I tried to apply CC particle world to a solid in a brand new composition, same thing. This is a brand new install with Mac os 10.6.2. I never had this problem before the reinstall. If any one has any advice, please let me know. thanks.

Apple's tech support has only a few scripts and you got one of the worst. Next time, go looking for help among Mac users first. apple.com has a discussion area for OS10 and you can search apple.com for relevant knowledge base articles.
Crashing the Mac OS is not unheard of but "closing out the OS" is something I have never heard of anyone doing. Did you mean you shut down the macintosh and experienced this crash?
Umm, never mind, it's all irrelevant and this is NOT a Macintosh assistance forum.
Let us knwo what happens after Todd's suggestion of updating your CS4 apps.

  • MacBook Air 2010 Very Slow (even after clean reinstall)

    Hi,
    Problem
The performance of my Macbook Air 2010 has slowed to the point where I can hardly complete basic tasks. For comparison, I use a MacBook Air 2013 at work and do not experience the same performance issues, so I believe my expectations are not unreasonably high.
    My Question
Can you please advise on what I can do to troubleshoot? I've tried the solutions listed below, all of which have failed.
I'm grateful for any help you can offer.
    Problem Description
Switching contexts or tabs, operating within applications (such as Chrome, small Excel spreadsheets, navigating files), and browsing the Internet has become a slow, laggy and crash-filled experience.
When right-clicking an icon and selecting 'Open With', Finder frequently times out or requires time to populate a list of applications.
Machine is slow to the point where, unless a solution presents itself, I'll have to get a new MacBook Air.
    What I've Tried
'Religiously' close all applications after use; extremely conscientious of number of applications running and their resource requirements.
    Clean reinstall of OS X.
Storing all media on external hard drive to create more storage space.
Clearing cache for all browsers regularly
Always running machine on battery power
    Regular reboots
    Machine Specs:
    MacBook Air 13-inch, Late 2010
    OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2
Processor: 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
    Storage: 87GB free of 250GB

    Thanks, dominic23.
    Unfortunately, it did not work.
-Tried starting in safe mode, resetting SMC, and repairing disk. Resetting the SMC helped upon reboot, but performance degraded swiftly and back at a low within 30-minutes.

  • Retaining playlists after clean reinstall of OS (all info on external HD)?

Okay, this happens to me every single time I have to do this:
I run my iTunes entirely off of an external hard drive - so everything it there including the iTunesLibrary.xml files (I also have the entire hard drive backed up on a completely separate external drive due to past complications like this).  SO - I had to do a clean reinstall of the Snow Leopard OS because my Mac is old and probably on its last legs (which is a question for a whole different support area) and now I want to run iTunes while maintaining the playlists and playcounts and all that other stuff that I had before - while also retaining all of my apps and movies and downloads, etc.
I've done this before and each time I have had to call for support and it takes hours, literally hours, to get it fixed - and sadly, I have no recollection of what we did previously.  I have tried following the advice from other support questions on this forum, but something is amiss and not working properly.  I have tried to redirect iTunes to the External HD through the advanced pane from the Preferences menus.....I have opened iTunes while holding "option" and choosing the External HD and it starts to reload ALL of my music and does not reload the playlists AND it is moving the folders all over the place and it looks like it's creating duplicate files as well.
Seriously, this is getting aggravating.  When I first moved my files to an external I had to do this and lost all of my playlist info.  Then I had to move to a larger external and lost all of my playlist info.  I had issues with that external and had to move it all again, and this time, after calling for support, I saved my playlist info, but ended up with lost songs and duplicates of almost 5000 songs.  I'm afraid that after messing around with the HD I have plugged in now trying to reload everything that it is screwed up and will mess up and create even more duplicates so I may have to use my back-up HD.
If that's the case, please will someone help me figure out how to do this?  All I want is to open iTunes using my External HD (as I always do) while maintaining my playlists and playcounts and everything that I had prior to my reload of the OS.......please?!?!

SO - I had to do a clean reinstall of the Snow Leopard OS
    Not really.
Snow Leopard can be reinstalled over the exisitng system without losing any user data.
now I want to run iTunes while maintaining the playlists and playcounts and all that other stuff that I had before - while also retaining all of my apps and movies and downloads, etc.
Hold Option, launch iTunes, select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external
That is all you need to do.
Make sure the exterrnal is powered on, mounted on the desktop and ready before launching iTunes.
I have opened iTunes while holding "option" and choosing the External HD and it starts to reload ALL of my music and does not reload the playlists AND it is moving the folders all over the place and it looks like it's creating duplicate files as well.
Nothing should get "reloaded" as it is simply the same iTunes library as before. Simply opening a library doesn't load anything new.

  • Blue Screen after clean reinstall snow leopard

I have a mid 2011 that came with Snow Leopard and disks.  I upgraded from there to Lion - then whatever came next and to Mavericks and finally Yosemite, which was a nightmare for me. I did not use disks of any of the rest.  So I just decided to take my disks and go back to Snow Leopard.  I did this and it asked to go to disk utility and repair both the HD and Permissions.  It came out ok, but there was an instance where looking at the list in HD repair, I saw Suid File System Library Core was moved and cannot be repaired. I went ahead and erased the Hard Drive. Then closed out and installed Snow Leopard. I'm not sure I did it right because I had to rename the new start up disk and typed in unnamed 1.
after that I was able to start up to Snow Leopard. It worked fine until I tried to download all the updates. Then it didn't seem to restart, but just went to the sign in screen.  So I had to keep shutting down and turning it back on. No updates. One of times I started up, I got the blue screen after the apple and gray screen.
Also on start up the apple comes up without the chime. Last night I got some instructions from a similar situation and tried to use my disk to a clean reinstall all over.  It didn't work, still the blue screen. (it does fine in safemode.)
I need help to get this mac running.  If someone can help me......

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Can't find sound card after clean reinstall from scratch to vista 32 bit from 64

    Greetings Everyone,
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me with this frustrating problem.
I did a clean reinstall from scratch to move to vista 32 bit from vista 64.   None of my goodies (mp3 player, phone.. all sadly antiquated) played on the 64 version.  That's why I nuked it.
The reinstall worked like a charm, except now I can't get anything from the external jacks, which worked fine before the reinstall.  I've used every aspect of the device manager, and checked for downloads on each.  When I go to sound devices, it lists the soundcard as "high definition audio device," and says that the software has been updated.
The internal speakers are the delightful Altec Lansings.. and they work fine.  In fact, when I plug something into the headphone jacks, they continue working.
Therefore, I'm trying to find the name of the sound card installed on my build, and then find the driver for it.
Here's all the specs from the back if you need them:
Product: hp pavillion dv 9843cl refurbished
I'm a music lover, and I love this computer, and I'll be sooooo happy if I can get this fixed.   I'm facing music withdrawals, and getting weaker by the day.
Could anyone please offer me advice?
If there's any other information you need to know, please let me know.
    Thanks so much!

  • Can't connect to time capsule after clean reinstall of Yosemite

    Hi
I was having performance issues with my MBP and it looked like a clean reinstall of Yosemite was the answer. I have performed the reinstall and re install my apps. I want to bring back my data from my time capsule but I can't connect.
When I tried in Migration Assistant it said there were problems connecting. If I use Finder, it is visible under the Shared heading but it says I can't connect.
How can I reconnect my time capsule so that I can bring back my data?
    Thanks in advance.

Reset the TC to factory.. redo the setup from Yosemite version Airport Utility.. no files are lost doing this.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
When you do the setup, give the TC short names with no spaces and pure alphanumeric characters.. same for passwords.. 8-20 characters.
Now in Finder mount the TC by IP address rather than by name.
Use Go, Connect to Server from top menu,
    SMB://10.0.1.1 for example.
It has to be static IP which is default in router mode but not so in bridge.
If you are bridged use the name or fix the IP.. dhcp reservation in the main router.
Type in like this for name.
SMB://TCname.local (replace with your new name and local is default domain .. it is important and helps).
Remember to save the password in the keychain when asked.
Good luck.. and if it fails clean install Mavericks or even Mountain Lion.. they work so much better.

  • Chooser still empty after clean reinstall

Put in a new 40G HD and upgraded from 8.6 to 9.2.2. Put OS on first 7.6G partition. Everything seemed to work fine except printing: I'd get an error message informing me that AppleTalk was turned on or an application was using the printer port. Repeated efforts to turn off AppleTalk didn't work and in the process, the printer and modem icons in Chooser disappeared.
I reinstalled the OS (clean reinstall) and the Chooser still has no printer/modem icons. When I attempt to print, I get the message to choose the printer in the Chooser. My printer (Epson 740i) icon shows up in the left hand side, but the right is still empty. AppleTalk has been turned off at the Control Panel and the Control Strip. Printer drivers for 9.2.2 have been reinstalled. What gives?

Well, I just solved my problem, but am not sure how. I'm hooked up to the Internet via my Ethernet port, so seeing previous posts that discussed an AppleTalk problem in 9.2.2 I thought I'd try that angle. I disconnected the Ethernet cable, restarted and a USB driver appeared in the Chooser. I selected it for my printer and, behold, it printed. Reconnected Ethernet, restarted and both printer and Internet connection seem to work.

  • System crashes, even after clean install. How to diagnose?

    Hi all,
Have been experiencing weird errors with my 2010 MBP, among which infrequent system crashes. I've seen my MBP swallow keypresses of the external Logitech keyboard I use. Replacing it with another (similar) model didn't help. It was getting quite annoying and I was beginning to distrust my Mac. I work on that, so it's crucial I have it running well.
After doing a complete clean install yesterday, the system crashed after 10 minutes of use. I'm suspecting a drive problem. I replaced the internal drive by a Crucial 256GB SSD a year and a half ago. I've already asked Disk Utility to do a check of the disk, but it reports no problems.
My system is now completely clean, but it's still not stable. How can I diagnose my MBP's issue?
Look forward to hearing from you,
    Martin

Ok, adding some info as requested in other posts. Hope anyone can make something useful from this. The crash after 10 minutes of running was a kernel panic. It says page_fault now that I look at it in some detail. Is that a memory thing?

  • Disk Utility 11.0 (252) crashes system after 10.5.1

After doing the auto update to 10.5.1 Disk Utility honks the system to where I have to force a power down.
The auto update was something I have never seen before. I was working on documents when out of the blue the "check for updates" said I needed to update to 10.5.1. I opted for "Not Now". Later I went to check for updates and allowed it to install 10.5.1. It started instantly!! Where did the update file come from? There was zero activity on my ethernet switcher and router. Did it load without my knowledge while I was working on the computer earlier?? It went instantly to the blue screen and only took a couple minutes to update and restart. That's not normal!! BUT I couldn't do anything after the restart as I was running at 100 percent CPU time for well over an hour. Activity Monitor showed that installdb was consuming 97 percent. Who/what is that?? I have never seen installdb before or after.
After over an hour all seemed okay (3% CPU when doing nothing). I opted to check a brand new USB 2.0 drive I bought to do TM but could not make it work after doing a format (tried all options) under 10.5. 10.5.1 promised a fix for such NTFS drives. That's when I brought up Disk Utility. It can't even do a verify disk on my internal startup drive without taking the system to it's knees. Spinning pizza of death. Force quit will not work. Only a forced power down will get the computer going again. Monitoring Activity Monitor during this you see nothing but red lined processes (not responding).
I am in panic. Is my boot drive okay as now I can't check anything. I booted from 10.5 Install Disk and ran Disk Utility and it says the drive is okay and a couple permissions are bad (GUID) being one of them but otherwise the internal seems okay. I downloaded the standalone installer and ran it. It went fine as far as I can tell. But Disk Utility 11.0 (252) still crashes the system big time.
How can I fix Disk Utility?? Can I throw it into the trash and run the standalone installer again??
    Thanks for any help.

  • Major crashes even after clean install.  iCal/sqlite/MobileMe the culprit?

In 25 years of using Apple computers, I've never had problems like I'm having now.
My iMac was acting up severely with some strange symptoms such as:
    * The red & white portion of the iCal icon in the dock disappearing, while the date itself remained visible.
    * All kinds of 0K sqlite files showing up on the base level of the hard drive, and a lots of cfx pref files being generated (stuff like cfx#1t9Oiul -- these i understand to be corrupt pref files). The sqlite files, by the way, show up as things like etilqs_3HVA6IL9BWQtB9e
    * Freezes, generally slow behavior, and multiple crashes, including the "blue screen of death" where the color just shifts and the cursor comes and goes. Eventually, even after running DiskWarrior, I the computer would start up, then spontaneously shut itself down after the grey apple screen with the progress wheel.
Ultimately, I decided to just wipe the thing clean and start fresh from a backup.
Using a Leopard install disk, I attempted to do the clean install, but was unable to from the iMac's internal optical drive - the installer told me the disk was damaged or dirty (the optical drive is brand new, by the way).
Using a powerbook and putting the iMac in target mode, I was able to do a completely clean install.
I ran all the software updates and have added NO third party software.
    Problems are back:
Running a sync to get my calendar, contacts, and bookmarks back, I encountered my first problem again: address book wouldn't sync "due to inconsistent data" and told me to replace the data on the computer by resetting it -- which I attempted to do, multiple times, but the sync always failed.
Then , once again those sqlite files started showing up.
Then the iCal icon disappeared again and programs weren't responding. Moments ago I had to do a hard restart.
I've zapped the PRAM, I've tried everything I know, and I'm still having all these problems (some of which, by the way, are now beginning to occur on the PowerBook G4 I also have).
If anyone can provide me any guidance here, man would I love it. Is it possible the Leopard disk I have is somehow corrupted and is causing all these issues? Or is it hardware? Or is this some sort of problem that's being generated by synchronization?
I'm really at my wit's end.
Thanks to anyone who can give me a hand.
    Jon

Just wanted to update anyone who's interested:
After replacing the internal hard drive, all problems have ceased and my Mac is running beautifully -- fast (though I also upgraded the ram from 1 to 2 GB) and I couldn't be happier.
So just a word to the wise: those "software" problems I was so certain I was having turned out to be a hard drive that was slowly failing. A friend of mine who's a programmer said he's never heard of a hard drive failing anything but suddenly, but in this case that's what happened.
With the problems I was having, I was seriously beginning to question my loyalty to Apple.
As it turns out, now I'm questioning their loyalty to Western Digital -- that drive was a dog and I'm glad to have replaced it with a Seagate.

  • Key Chain - how to get my old passwords on the new system after clean inst.

    Hello,
just switched to Tiger and took the opportunity to make a clean install, to get rid of my classic partition.
Before I made a copy of the harddrive data with "Superduper". I managed to get back after installing almost all my preferences, mail accounts, etc., but I don´t know where I can find the Key chains from the old system (copied already the files from Library and User/Library to the new system, but it won´t work..
    Please help!!
    thankz Denz-al

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I assume you clone restored your data back again from the external hard drive. If that's what you did, a more reliable method is simply to erase and install Tiger, and then use the Migration Assistant to import the data from the external hard drive over Firewire.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
But since you've done what you have, you may still be able to import the old keychain:

  • EMac Crashing Even After Clean Install

I've got an eMac that I bought late 2005. It's been working fine for seven months, but two weeks ago began having random crashes. The crashes seem to occur regardless of which applications are running or in the foreground. TechTool Pro finds no issues; neither does Disk Warrior. Performed OF resets. Tried different mouse and keyboard. Booted from factory disc and ran permissions, all repairs on startup volume. That didn't help. Neither did the Apple Hardware Test that came with the Mac. No errors or problems of any kind were found. Finally, I did a clean install of the OS, sure that would fix whatever was causing this. It did not. A crash occurred while copying some files from a local server. This bit appeared in that login account's console log:
    June 29 08:21:59 copy9 kernel: ** ASIC Hang Log End **
    June 29:08:22:05 copy9 kernel: ATIRadeon::submit_buffer: Overflowed block waiting for FIFO space. Have 5, need 6. RBBM_STATUS 0x8009c100. VAPCNTLSTATUS 0x00000002
Also, FWIW, if I boot from a G4 Apple Diagnostic CD, I get this message: "Invalid memory access at: %SRR0:00000000 %SRR1: 00083030.
Anybody have a clue about this? Do I have a RAM DIMM gone bad (even though test softare finds no problem with memory)? Problem with onboard video? Network? Am I missing something?
    Thanks for any ideas...

Okay, let me clarify. Sorry for not being clearer earlier. My computer had been freezing and crashing and just not working for me for quite some time BEFORE I did the erase and install. That's why I finally did an erase and install as a last resort. The thing is, erasing and installing didn't fix anything. I ran Repair Permissions both before and after resinstalling. I still can't do anything unless I start up in safe mode. I am beginning to wonder if it may be a simple matter of needing more memory? Here is my embarassing computer information:
I have an eMac, PowerPC G4; OS version 10.3.4.
    CPU speed: 1.25 GHz
I assume my RAM is this DDR SDRAM?: 256MB
The only peripherals I have besides the keyboard and mouse are a hpdeskjet 960c printer and an iSight, but I have not had either of those hooked up when I have tried to boot up my computer since doing the erase and install and it is still crashing.
Hopefully this might be helpful in some way. I'm pretty lost here so you may be offering help to a lost cause and I'll just have to give in and take it somewhere, but thanx for taking the time to read my posts and try and point me in the right direction!

  • Robohelp 6, crash system after insert new topic

    Hi,
i have a problem with Robohelp 6. when i try to insert a new topic in one exsisting project, created with the same program, the system crash, so it's not possible to add new topic.
Someone have ever had that kind of problem or know the reason?
    Thank you

Where is your RoboHelp project located. If on a network drive, move it to a local drive and try again. You should never work on a RoboHelp project whilst it is on a network unless you want all sorts of problems like this to occur. By all means backup to a network but that's it.
If the problem still persists, try closing the project and deleting the <projectname>.cpd file in Windows Explorer (where <projectname> is the name of the project). When you reopen the project, this file is rebuilt.

  • Iphoto crashing even after Lion reinstall

I am trying to drag files off my GoPro onto mac desktop. It is allowing me to do some, but one one file i keep getting an error saying i have ejected the device, then iphoto pops up and i cannot move the file. (file is not locked btw).
I've tried going to PREFERENCES to select iphoto to NOT open when i connect a device, but every time i click PREFERENCES it crashes.
I read on the forums that i should reinstall lion. So i have done that and it is STILL crashing upon opening, so i cannot deslect it to open every time i connect a device. I don't even use iphoto and it is driving me crazy. It always pops up when i connect my iphone as well and i want it to stop.
Anyone have any other suggestions? Surely a second Lion Install is not going to change things?
If anyone has any other advice about dragging a 3gb file off my GoPro that is 100% not locked (all the other files on it drag over easily), i'd appreciate it. To confirm i am NOT knocking the usb connection/definitely NOT accidentally ejecting the GoPro.
This all seems somehow related to iphoto given i get the "did not eject properly" error followed by error -31 and -42 when transfering this file and then iphoto opens immediately...
    HELP!
    THANK YOU!
p.s - i have the most up to date iphoto.

Give this a go:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • After clean reinstall from Time Machine, iPhoto says: "photo library needs to be upgraded"

My iMac was reset to factory settings after the 1 TB HDD recall (replaced HDD).  I restored practically everything from Time Machine prior to the HDD replacement.  The only surprise so far is that when I start iPhoto for the first time, it says: "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.".  Of course I don't want it to corrupt all the photos and videos I have stored in there prior to the HDD replacement.  Should I click on "upgrade"?  Why is this showing up?  Nothing should have changed between before and after ...?

Well, that explains why it needs to upgrade the iPhoto Library, because your Mac now has version 9.2.3 whereas before it has 8.1.2.
I always like to understand what is going on before proceeding. I am guessing that Apple "restored" the 10.6.8 system but must have delivered it back to you with more recent versions of some apps like iPhoto (they probably don't keep all the old versions of those apps for these restores). I also believe that Time Machine usually does not replace a newer version of an Apple program (like iPhoto, Safari, Mail, etc.) when it is restoring like this. So I THINK this all makes sense.
So what I would do here is make a copy of your iPhoto Library (in case you don't like the results of what happens next), and then say "yes" when it asks to upgrade the iPhoto library to be used with the new version 9.2.3. The only reason this updating could go wrong is that there is some problem inside your database already, otherwise it should work fine. (I've upgraded through about ~ 4 versions of iPhoto over the past several years and have never had a problem with this step).
If you run into a problem after saying "yes," then you have your old Library still (the copy you'll have made) and can take steps to rebuid or repair it with a number of different tools before trying again.
