CC Registry File Left Behind

What do I do with a Windows 7 registry file left behind when I used the Creative Cloud manager to activate Typekit and CC Files? The file is named cc_20130911_192915.reg . Should I (1) double click on it to install it into the registry (2) delete it by dragging it into the trash (3) do something else with it?

Sorry I wasn’t specific. I only noticed it because the file appeared on my desktop. I’ve been working with DOS and editing registries since the early ‘80s and never have encountered a file on the desktop that was supposed to be double clicked to install an entry into the registry.
I did a chat with Adobe Support about it, and after half an hour of “Thanks for your patience while I look into it further,” the rep said, “That is a technical issue. Please hold while I transfer you to a technical support area.” Support never came on the line, and I hung up after 15 minutes because no one responded when I attempted to query them.
I appreciate your answer and am hoping an Adobe rep will find the question here and give me some enlightenment about why the file is there and what its purpose is.

  • Consolidated iTunes library to different drive, but some files left behind?

I had been storing my iTunes library on an external HD. Now I have a new laptop and enough memory to move the library back onto the laptop's hard drive. I attempted to do so by reversing how I moved it in the first place -- I consolidated the library (using Preferences->Advanced to set the iTunes Media Folder Location to the standard folder on the internal HD). It took a while and the files were duplicated one by one on the internal HD. Except not all of them. Roughly 100+ songs, scattered throughout the library, are still stored only on the external HD. They show up in the library with an exclamation point, and I can listen to them if the external HD is hooked up, but obviously I can't if it isn't.
Is there an easy fix, and failing that, what's the painstaking manual fix I could go through?

The files that didn't transfer don't have any obvious differences from the files that did (they all have the same extension, as far as I can tell: m4p). Out of an album of songs from a particular artist, say, 11 songs will have transferred and one will have been randomly(?) left behind.
These are the basic instructions I followed re moving the Media folder and then consolidating:

  • Managing projects changes - left behind

When I upgraded to 8.0.0, I loved the new feature that created a project folder, and also nested folders for organization. With the 8.0.1 update, I noticed lots of files being copied when I saved a new project. This essentially means that I have to go back to my old ways and create these folders manually, or waste HUGE amounts of drive space.
I finally figured out what was going on and found this in the Late-Breaking News file:
    +Saving a Project+
+When you use the File > Save As command to save your project to a new location+
+(outside the current project folder) and select the Include Assets checkbox, the new+
+project folder will contain all audio files used in the “old” project’s Arrange area. The+
+“Copy external audio files to project folder” checkbox does not affect this behavior.+
Later, in the next section, it adds:
+If, for some reason, you don’t wish to include used audio files, don’t enable the Include+
+Assets checkbox in the Save As dialog.+
How about a way to create these project folders without wasting so much space with duplicate files?
Is anyone else having a problem with this new "feature"?

I think its a Adobe bug, not a Microsoft bug. The behaviour started when Microsoft released a update (KB2993651) back in august 2014. The first thought is that it is a Microsoft issue but the KB clearly states a change in FONT behavior. Adobe didn't react to this change and Microsoft keeps updating the engine on a monthly basis so there are already alot of other KB's that can cause the same issue.
Furthermore. The same problem already existed before in 2011 on older systems. Adobe never figured it out and only suggested a workarround.
Acrobat/Reader: [email protected] files left behind in Temp folder after printing
Another user on this forum did some research and found that Adobe uses a legacy function when printing from Adobe reader.
    http://blog.notmyfault.ch/?p=378
If Adobe leaves Z@ temp files behind in the user temp directory after printing and those files can't be deleted other than a reboot it must be a Adobe bug. Other utilities like FoxIT reader do not have this problem on modern updated Windows OS-es.

I thought that a Windows restart may clear that file, but it did not.
How is the background updater handling this; attempt to delete it at a later stage (e.g. during the next update)?
P.S. on all other systems, all files were successfully removed.

Sorry, we only run Firefox, Chrome, and IE here, so I can't attest to what happens on those other browsers.
The only other thing I can add is that this was the 32bit version of Flash.
This is extremely easy to replicate.  I went into the
    c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
directory and copied NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll to NPSWF32_11_2_202_233.dll
I then launched ProcMon from SysInternals so I could spy on exactly what was happening.  Then I launched Firefox and went to the adobe flash about page.  Of course, it returned version 235.  But ProcMon told a different story.  Firefox had launched the plugin-container.exe using the 233 DLL I just copied!
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe" --channel=2500.56b6a60.744882939 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_2_202_233.dll" - -greomni "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\omni.ja" 2500 "\\.\pipe\gecko-crash-server-pipe.2500" plugin
The problem comes because Firefox is using a QueryDirectory command with '*' when it looks in the Macromed\Flash directory for the DLL.  This returns items alphabetically.  It must be looking for the NPSWF32 prefix, so the LOWEST version number will always win!
To prove this, I made a copy of NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll and named it NPSWF32_0.dll.  So now I'm looking at the following directory entries.
    FlashInstall.log
    flashplayer.xpt
    FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe
    FlashUtil32_11_2_202_235_Plugin.exe
    mms.cfg
    NPSWF32_0.dll
    NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll
Note that alphabetically, my _0 copy is above the real copy.  I use ProcMon to spy on Firefox once again.  And Firefox goes and loads NPSW32_0.dll into the plugin-container.exe command line!  This is despite the registry having no mention of this file, and all registry entries that refer to flash have NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll in them.
You guys have a huge problem here.

  • What has Bonjour left behind?

    Hi,
I have been feeling the pain of this upgrade, having a BT Voyager 2100 router. For several days now I haven't been able to boot my desktop as it take down the whole of my wireless network and stops other members of my household working.
I have installed the firmware upgrade from BT, but this did nothing for me.
I have uninstalled iTunes 5 and the Bonjour service - there are no iTunes or Bonjour folders in Program Files and no iTunes/Bonjour-related services running. I have also removed iTunes and Bonjour from my Norton Firewall "Allowed Applications" list.
But when I turn on the desktop and go to access the web, my Voyager 2100 immediately disconnects all wireless connections.
What has Bonjour left behind on my desktop that could be causing this? How can I get rid of it?
If I buy a new router (not BT or DLink), will this solve the problem? I would prefer this option to having to reinstall my desktop.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

    Hi,
As an update, I purchased a Netgear ADSL router today and installed it thinking everything would magically work. To a certain extent, it did - at least I can boot my desktop without bringing down the whole wireless network.
I ran Norton One-Button Cleanup which removed a lot of useless iTunes and QT registry entries, links, etc (I had previously uninstalled these programs).
I rebooted, and magically, the desktop could connect to the web.
I then went through several iterations of installing/uninstalling various iTunes versions so I could at least play my purchased music, but no previous versions would start - the process would sit there, but no UI, and I couldn't kill the process in TaskManager - choosing to reboot the PC hung, so I guess Windows itself couldn't kill the process either.
I am having the same problem with QT7 and, remarkably, QT6. The only software on my PC that is now broken is Apple software. If I didn't have money invested in it (how else am I going to play my purchased music - I don't have an iPod) then I would just move along.
    Chris.

  • Uninstall Bootcamp, What's left behind?

Okay I know this may sound weird but I'm wondering if anyone knows an answer to this. About 8 months ago I used the Boot Camp beta to run WinXP on my MacBook Pro 2,2. I ended up deciding I didn't want it and used the Boot Camp Assistant to remove it. All ways fine. I have since did an Erase and Install of Leopard, all is still fine. But I was messing around with rEFIt (never installing it) but I ran its Partition Inspector and got this:
    Current GPT partition table:
    # Start LBA End LBA Type
    1 40 409639 EFI System (FAT)
    2 409640 312319623 Mac OS X HFS+
    Current MBR partition table:
    # A Start LBA End LBA Type
    1 1 312581800 ee EFI Protective
    MBR contents:
    Boot Code: Unknown, but bootable
    Partition at LBA 40:
Boot Code: None (Non-system disk message)
    File System: FAT32
Listed in GPT as partition 1, type EFI System (FAT)
    Partition at LBA 409640:
    Boot Code: None
    File System: HFS Extended (HFS+)
Listed in GPT as partition 2, type Mac OS X HFS+
Whats up with these FAT and FAT32 partitions? Was something left over from Boot Camp and I've never realized it? I ran diskutil list in Terminal and got this:
    /dev/disk0
    #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
    0: GUIDpartitionscheme *149.1 Gi disk0
    1: EFI 200.0 Mi disk0s1
    2: Apple_HFS MacBook Pro 148.7 Gi disk0s2
    /dev/disk1
    #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
    0: Applepartitionscheme *297.5 Gi disk1
    1: Applepartitionmap 31.5 Ki disk1s1
    2: Apple_HFS rob 297.5 Gi disk1s2
I don't see anything there mentioning FAT or FAT32 but EFI is there. By the way /dev/disk1 is my File Vault Disk Image, I know that.
If I run rEFIT on a thumb drive, by holding down option on boot, my Mac of course asks to boot from my internal drive or the thumb drive running rEFIt, once rEFIt is loaded it asks to boot into my OSX partition or a Windows partition.... huh!? I thought it was gone! If I run it I get a usual looking white text on black screen saying there is nothing to boot to. So how is there any windows-type partition still there?
So does anyone know? Is something left behind from those partitions that Boot Camp made that not even an Erase and Install of OS X Leopard got rid of? I know this is a little OSD of me, but I'm dying to know. And would love to know how to remove all traces of it. Thanks!

No. Firefox keeps all session data (incl. cookies) in memory in PB mode and doesn't store any data on disk. Only the memory cache is used and not the disk cache (see the about:cache page).

I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back to the "Archive" of my 10.4.11 System from the "Previous Systems" folder?  If not, what's the point of creating the "archive"?

Did you select "Preserve User Settings"?
Archive and Install installation automatically moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System, then installs Mac OS X again. (See tip 3.) You cannot start up your computer using a Previous System folder, nor can you "re-bless" the Previous System folder. (See tip 1.)
You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically moves existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.
Note: Because the "Preserve user and network settings" option moves, not copies, existing users, Home directories, and network settings, from the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed System, these items will not exist in the Previous Systems folder after the Archive and Install is complete.

  • "ADMINI~1" folder left behind

I use MDT 2013 to build reference images, and SCCM to deploy them, as I'm sure most people do. I get a folder left behind in the Users folder: C:\users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp. The folder is empty, so I'm not sure how to figure out how to find what's
leaving it there. I've seen other folders where a Java log file is left behind, but no such luck with me.
It's happened with a Windows 7 image, as well as a Windows 8.1 image.

  • Getting rid of all the junk left behind from SL after upgraded to Lion

I still seem to have a-lot of junk that was left behind from SL - I want to get rid of it all as I want to just start with Lion from fresh.
Can someone tell me how to get rid of all the junk that SL left behind when I upgraded to Lion (like all the old plist files and all of that).  Also I seem to still have some of my SL settings in there as well.
Ideally i would like to do a fresh install of Lion but I don't want to loose any of the stuff that came preinstalled on my computer (Like iLife and all of that) and since my NAS that I was using for Time Machine wont work on Lion there would be no way of backing up or restoring those.
Thus I am left with just manually deleting all of the junk.
Can someone give me some instruction on how I would go about doing that (like anyone that has already upgraded and then deleted all stuff SL leaves behind.)
    Thanks
    jason

You can start with /Utilities/System Information > System Report > Applications and delete all PPC apps.
Once you have your Apps cleaned up you could clone the system to another disk, do a clean install and just use Migrqtion Manager in Setup Assistant to migrate only Applications.

  • Address Book Sharing: are custom fields shared or left behind

I want to share an Address Book on one system with 3 other users through MobileMe. I will also allow the 3 other users to add, delete and change the contacts. All 4 systems have their own MobileMe accounts.
We make extensive use of custom relationship fields. Will those fields transfer with the with the shared contacts, or are they left behind?
(I know that only a limited number of relationship fields (no custom fields at all) in Address Book are available to Pages and Bento)
I've looked all over the Address Book sharing information (that I can find), and the issue of custom fields does not seem to be addressed in connection with Address Book Sharing.
Can anyone recommend any documentation that answers this question?
Is there any real (detailed) documentation at all about Address Book Sharing?
    Thanks for your help.

@taylor thanks for the suggestion, but it's not quite what i had in mind. The red -/green + buttons are used to add/remove more items in the same category, ie., phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, etc. If you finish editing a record and then click on one of these fields, you get a contextual menu with various options.
But, my Skype name is not an email address, nor is it a phone number. It belongs in the IM section of the Contact template, but unlike the "Custom" option for labeling a Phone Number, the IM drop-down menu doesn't have a Custom option, nor a Skype option.
There are several possible workarounds, but that's the point, innit? Skype has been around a long time - there shouldn't be a need for a workaround.

  • ITunes 7.1 loses track of some registry files necessary for CD/DVD burning

Has anyone else seen this odd error message. I installed iTunes 7.1, then restarted my computer as instructed. When I rebooted and ran iTunes, I got an odd error message indicating that some registry files were missing and that this was likely because I had recently installed a CD/DVD burning program. The problem is that I haven't installed such a problem.
Now I believe I have found a solution: I ran the installation again, and when prompted I told the installer to repair iTunes. The message didn't come back after that, but does this mean that the issue was solved or simply that the message only shows the first two times or so after the installation? But, most of all, has anyone else seen this message?

    Dennis,
I had the exact same issue after updating from ZEN4 to ZEN7. The solution
for it was to change the command from:
    img rp $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
    to:
    img restorep $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
That was the solution to my problem.
