CC2014 and M2TS files

I have no problems using M2TS files in last year's PP CC but the CC2014 rejects the exact same files that are accepted in the previous version. I get the error message: "The file has an unsupported compression type." Does anybody else have this problem? Anybody know the solution?

I can confirm that if I use a certain type of MOV file with Premiere CC (7.0) then that same file will not open in Premiere CC2104 ("The file has an unsupported compression type.").
However, if I have a MOV file from the same camera on my system that Premiere CC (7.0) has never used, then Premiere CC 2014 WILL accept that file and everything works fine.
If I take a certain type of MOV file that Premiere CC (7.0) has seen, then copy and paste it to a new folder, then Premiere CC2014 WILL accept that file and everything works fine.
If I leave the file in the original directory as used by Premiere CC (7.0), then it will not work ("The file has an unsupported compression type.") in Premiere CC 2014.
I read in the release notes somewhere that Premiere CC 2014 had an update to the way it handles Meta Data, I think this is where this particular bug has been introduced.

  • Importing AVCHD .MTS  and .M2TS files (Sony HDR-SR1) into iMovie 08

I've read numerous other threads about trying to get these files into iMovie 08 but I'm still having problems.
I can plug my camcorder in just fine and have it import directly off there. But for older video files that I took with this camcorder I have two folders. One with just the .MTS files that I pulled off the camcorder. And the other with the YYYYMMDDHHMMSS (.modd & .m2ts) files that I archived (using my sony software) on my pc way back when I was using my PC for video editing.
I created a .DMG that I copied everything from my camcorders HD to. I was able to mount this and iMovie 08 worked just like when I plug my camcorder in. But my problem comes when I try to work with the older .MTS and .M2TS files that I backed up. I was hoping that I could just put them in the
DMGIMAGE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM folder and have it import just like before but no luck there. Any ideas as to how I can go about pulling these old raw video files to work with in iMovie? Thanks.

You might try voltaic to convert these files before adding them to imovie

  • FCS and M2T Files??

Anyone know if FCP 7 included in FCS 3 can view and edit m2t files?
    Blue

M2T is Sony and Panasonic's version of HDV. MPEG 2 files.
MPEG 2 is not an editing format, it is a delivery (end user viewing format) that uses a *long GOP* frame structure -Google it. Also used as the basis of DVD authoring.
If your M2T files are coming from a camera you can use FCP to transcode the files to an editable format such as Apple Intermediate codec or ProRes. Read the document [Working with High Definition & Broadcast Formats|http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/FCP6HD_and_BroadcastFormats.pdf] -the HDV workflow is described there in detail in the first chapter.
If these files are just "loose" on your hard drive, download a free copy of [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com] and use it to convert your files.
I have written a tutorial for MPEG Streamclip, which can be found [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2059475&tstart=0]. Part two can be found [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2070861&tstart=0].

  • FCS 2 and M2T files

Was wondering if FCS 2 can handle/convert M2T files. Is any conversion needed? Thanks.

I don't understand. The client will be delivering the elements to you on a windows formatted drive? If you've got to convert them in mpegstreamclip just export to a mac drive. You should be able to read the files off the windows drive without a problem.

  • Premiere pro cc2014 and audio file ac3

    Good morning
In premiere pro cc2014 help it is specified that Ac3 audio format is supported. Each time I try to import such a file the program sends an error message stating the contrary! what is the solution? My software is updated; I don't understand such contradictory situations.

Read Tweakers Page - Video Codecs and then convert to an editable format.

  • .mts and .m2ts HD movie files

I have a problem which thousands of other users seem to have as well. I read many discussions about it. Many opinions and no clear answer.
I have a Canon HF 100 HD camera. It generates .mts and .m2ts files which I want to edit in FCE 4.0.1.
1.) Is it possible to edit .mts or .m2ts directly or do I have to convert?
2.) What is the best converter software? I don´t mind paying for it
3.) Which is the best format FCE can handle? I want no loss of quality.
4.) What about ProRes? Does it work with FCE or only with FCP? Or do I have to use the Apple intermediate codec? How is the quality.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
    1. FCE can not edit .mts files natively. However, it does support the AVCHD file format through the Log and Transfer process (check the manual for more info). If you have access to the full file directory or just plug in your camcorder and start Log and Transfer going within FCE, it should work fine without any need for extra conversion software.
    2. You don't need extra software. If you transferred the clips to your computer without their directory structure you can use ClipWrap to convert.
    3. FCE supports AVCHD frame sizes of 1440x1080 and 1920x1080 at frame rates of 60i/30p and 50i/25p. Shoot in one of those and edit in a sequence with properties to match.
    4. FCE does not come with the ProRes codec and it is not supported within the program. AIC is a high quality codec that should fit your needs perfectly.

  • Importing *.m2ts files to Final Cut Expres 4.0

    Hi,
I've just bought FCE 4.0 to play around with my new Sony HDR-CX7EK camera. First I installed the windows-software that came with the camera on my windows-ibm laptop. It gave me moff, modd and m2ts-files. I guess the m2ts file is the actual data as this file is the biggest. After installing FCE I copied the files via a usb-stick to my MAC. Ready for a long evening with lots of videoediting I was quite sad that I did not understand the m2ts-format. Could anyone tell me what I can do? I have deleted the files from the camera and now I only have these files that I really really want to work on in FCE!

Hello. I'm am unable to work with my years worth of .m2ts files. These files were shot on my SONY HDR-SR1 camera in AVCHD format.
For the past year, I had a work-flow of plugging in the camera and browsing the file structure and removing the .m2ts files from the camera to external storage on a Windows XP machine.
I played around with SONY VEGAS but thought it was too complicated, and rendered previews terribly on my machine (which was WinXP running in BootCamp, natively), but it can read my .m2ts files.
SO....last week I purchased Final Cut Express 4.0 with excitement because of it's new support for AVCHD editing!
However, it appears that there is a "folder/file" structure that I failed to "preserve" in my old "copy" process seems to prevent Final Cut from "recognizing" my media? What's the deal? Anyone know a "workaround" to fix this? I also tried the StreamClip application as another post suggested, purchased the $20.00 MPEG2 converter for QuickTime and receive the "Cannot find the first video frame" message....
I have wedding footage, my child's first birth footage, windsurfing footage that I really want to start working with...
I'm glad that the SONY purchase I made and it's AVCHD format is catching on, but after all this time, options seem far-too limited.

  • How do I export wmv and avi files from media encoder on a mac in CC2014

How do I export wmv and avi files from media encoder on a mac in CC2014?

    John T Smith wrote:
As far as I know, you don't... those are Windows formats that are not available on a Mac
    Nonsense.
Apple Compressor has been doing wmf exports for a decade. I have the Quicktime export components from Telestream and they appear as presets in Compressor. They should be available in Media Encoder or they should be importable. Adove apparently refuses to see them. Still trying to figure that out.

  • I need a definitive answer for using Premiere Pro CS4 to work with .m2ts and .mts files

I have a Canon Vixia HF20 and a Sony HDR-XR350V.  The Canon gives me .MTS files and the Sony produces .M2TS files.  What do I need to do to be able to work with these files in Premiere Pro?  I've searched and gotten that I'll need to purchase a codec.  But are both file types going to be good with one codec?
Also, what are the steps to getting started?  Purchase the codec, load the codec...Will there be any other steps to working with the files in Premiere?
I'm sorry for the basic questions, I'm a photographer!  I've never worked with video before, and this is HARD!
    Thank you for your help,
    Michelle

    Hi, Michelle.
I'm nowhere near the authority on this stuff that many of the others are here, but I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I work directly with AVCHD .mts files from my Panasonic camera. I simply browse to the directory where the .mts files are located and drag them into the project. I didn't need to purchase any additional codec, this is natively supported in Premiere CS4.
I can't speak to m2ts files as I don't have any gear that generates them.
One thing you do need to know, however, and this is important. Whether you're running a Mac or a PC, if you're going to work with high def footage such as AVCHD, you're going to need a fairly high performance computer with sufficient RAM, good performing hard drives and a fast CPU.
I tried this on a PC that was fine for my recording studio (audio), fine for professional software development, but choked and stuttered working with HD material. That's not a problem with the Adobe software, it's just the nature of the beast. HD is extremely demanding stuff, so you need top flight gear to work with it. I bought a higher performance PC and now it runs just fine.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • Recommend a functional and fast HD encoder for .m2t files hat "copy freely"

Now that HD .m2t files are becoming very common place, what program do you recommend to encode into mp4 format?
I'm especially referring to 2048 and 2112 PID which are .m2t files and wanting to encode into .m4v files for ATV.
Currently Handbrake chokes on these two PIDS and MPEGStreamClip can do 2112 but not 2048. Even so a HDef file using MPEGStreamClip takes about 15 hours on a MacPro and about 70 minutes if the file was not HiDef.
So I'm thinking that there is a major lacking in free or not so expensive programs able to do the job.
Even though MPEGStreamClip can do HiDef the 5.1 channel capability is not there such as provided by HBrake 092.
Please make a suggestion for a free or inexpensive program, exclude programs such as Perian. I just want to keep the application use as simple as possible.

Check out Turbo.264 from ElGato. It's an mpeg-4 USB stick that works very well. It's fast and the software that comes with it supports 5.1 channel audio if your source has it (even with .m2t files). Another nice feature is it works with other Quicktime applications, so I take a .m2t file, edit it in MPEGStreamclip and then can export using Turbo.264 which is much faster than using the Export to H.264 option. It also takes all the processing from your computer and puts it on the external chip.
Be sure to check out the frame size limitations though. It can definitely handle an HD source file, but I'm not sure what it is limited to for output. I believe it is fully capable of all the Apple TV specs though.
Also, there are no options for 2-pass and the quality is not quite as good as Handbrake. I have found exporting through MPEGStreamclip to look cleaner than through the Turbo.264 software, but not by much.
Bottom line: It has made encoding HD m2t files a trivial matter for me.

  • Firestore FSC problems with m2t and .mov files

I am having a problem opening files from Firestore FSC. Both m2t and Qt .mov
files will not open for me in FCE,iMovie or Qt with Quicktime MPEG2 reader
installed. Anyone having this problem and is there a solution other than
    buying Final Cut Pro?
    Charles Dodd

I am able to capture m2t and Quicktime.mov files from my FSC to FCE, but in
real time which defeats one of the reasons I purchased my FSC. Also
StreamClip will open the the m2t files, but not .mov files. I can't open the
the m2t/.mov files in FCE from my desktop or from a folder. Sony Vegas Pro
will open m2t files from a folder or desktop etc. I am very new at this, but
this if what I have accomplished so far. Thanks

    I hope the former.

  • .MTS, .m2t files and ClipWrap?

Once again I am totally confused!
I thought that ClipWrap was an app to convert AVCHD video files to AIC, ProRes etc.
However, I cannot get it to work.
It asks for .m2t files but the AVCHD files I am experimenting with are .MTS and are completely greyed out and impossible to get into ClipWrap.
I had better explain that these files are the ones supplied on the FCE 4 Editing Workshop DVD. They are early AVCHD with a 1440x1080 size, so may not be exactly the same as the latest cameras.
So can anyone explain what .m2t and .MTS files are and whether ClipWrap will work with AVCHD?
I have no problem Logging and Transferring them into FCE 4.

Upgrade to the current version for .mts files.

  • Advice on using .m2ts files in FCP 6.0.6

    Hi All,
A client just handed me a usb hard drive with a bunch of files transferred from a sony hdr-sr5. Each folder has a 3 files with .m2ts, .modd, and .moff extensions. I'm not sure how they did the transfer, but I'm guessing it wasn't with video editing in mind. I need to use the footage in a normal SD project to go on a DVD. I had originally thought that I could use the Log and Transfer window to bring the footage in, but trying to do that brings up an error dialog - something about incorrect format for the media...
I've seen some other posts about using mpegstreamclip, but everytime I open up the .m2ts files the program crashes right after it puts up the window of the video. I also saw posts about using Toast 9 to convert and I did a quick test and was able to convert one of the files. I selected DV/DVPRO and the export format and did get a usable file, obviously squeezed though.
So I guess my question is - is there a better way than using Toast to get this footage ingested in a format I can use? Or if Toast is the best method what settings should I use? When Toast opens up the .m2ts file it indicates that it is H.264/1440x1080 29.97fps.
I would appreciate any guidance anyone could provide.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Can anyone explain how I go from a Sony HD camcorder .m2ts file to viewing the video in HD on either DVD or Blu-Ray?

I have recently started to edit footage taken on a Sony HD Camcorder using iMove 11.
Uploading the .m2ts file was no problem straight from the camera to iMovie, but I (stupidly) assumed that I could burn an HD DVD from iMovie/iDVD to view on a DVD player. I've done a bit of internet research to find out why the quality of the DVD is so bad i.e. SD rather than HD and I think I understand it. Just.
Further searching to find out our to convert AVCHD/.m2ts to either HD DVD or Blu-ray has boiled my brain. So much stuff I read was a couple of years old so I wasn't sure what is possible.
Can anyone tell me how I get to the point where I can upload the .m2ts to the iMac, edit the footage and burn a Blu-Ray or HD DVD?
    Cheers!

Booted the Mac this morning and it now works. I tried Alchroma's solution but whether the stereo is Plain or Matrix, it works both ways. I don't think that this was the solution as a result, but thanks for the suggestion. To confirm, my Easy set up is HD / AVCHD Apple 1920 x1080i60, the only thing I can think I did differently compared to yesterday is that I shut my Mac down having changed the Easy setup. Previously, I only changed the easy setup then closed FCE4 down.
