Ccan't play my iDVD project on a TV

So I've burned both an iDVD project and also as an alternative created a VICEO_TS version that I burned to a DVD-RW - however in both cases the DVD's play when inserted into a PC or a MAC, but I keep getting an Insert Disc error when I load these into the DVD player attached to my TV's (I've tried two DVD players now and both have trouble recognising the disc).
Any help would be appreciated, as I've got creating the projects down to a fine art, but want to now burn them to DVD's suitable for a TV.
Thanks

I used the standard mac tools (I'm running os 10.x) to burn the Video_TS to the DVD - I have a small suspicion after your reply that it may be the fact I am using DVD_RW media and the DVD players for my TV are both quite old and probably don't support that format.
The format is coming up as MAC OS Extended, so I guess it might be the burn tool on the standard finder side bar that is creating aMAC format by default.
Apologies if all this sounds a little dumb, I've been a PC user for 20+ years and only a MAC user for 1 year - and whilst I love the MAC more than the PC now I struggle with some things still.
Thanks

  • Music will not play in IDVD project

I need help! While I was building an idvd project I dropped a music file In for the menu screen. It was playing fine and I was happy with the results. Then I went to the Chapters screen and dropped in my video files. When I went back to the Menu my drop zone clips were not set the way I left them and my I can not get a music file to work. Does any one know why this happened?
Also this is a big project and I'm not so far into it that I can't scrap this and start over. Any opinions on what I should do?

Hold on. I have to switch start up volumes so I can take a sreen shot for you .... Be right back hopefully.
Ok .... I'm back and you are right. Audio well is for the slideshow and not for a theme's audio. For that you simply drag and drop the audio file to the background and it will replace the stock audio provided within said theme with the new audio. Is this what you did?

  • Playing IDVD project from computer thru projector

How do I play my IDVD project from my computer thru a projector and get it to play full screen without all the drop zone etc and media window showing?

There's at least a few ways to do this:
Do you currently have a DVI to VGA adapter with your macbook? Looks like this:
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M9320G/A?mco=6C04E099
    OR ....
if you're working with Composite or S-Video connectors then you need this:
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M9319G/A?mco=6C04E0B8
However, the cleanest way IMO is to get a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter, if the projector has a DVI connection. You'll get a cleaner, trouble-free picture with DVI rather than VGA.
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M9321G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4NjQ0NDE
Once you have any of the above connector properly connected to the LCD Projector (and the laptop) all you need do is restart your mac while connected (assuming the projector is fully powered up beforehand) and your mac will default to the correct settings (or at least should in most cases).
If I'm not mistaken, you'll use apple's dvd player app in full screen mode to play the dvd like this:
As for not showing the desktop, you want to play the dvd rather than to mirror the desktop. Just move the mouse to the top of the screen > view > full screen.

  • IDVD project not playing

Using my main iMac computer and iDVD software, I have just completed my fifth attempt to make an DVD project. I am unable to have a disc that plays... error message says that I'm inserting a 'blank disc'.. but if you look closely, one can see the project has been burned onto the DVD disc.
I've used  13 pieces of .mov footage (Project is a short documentary, with 12 x  individual stories -- all 13 pieces of .mov footage were compressed with FCP7, taken from the full documentary); one .jpg pic as a drop-in on the main menu; and I used the Sunflower template with chapters.  This project works when I use the Preview feature.
I finished the project, and burned a copy (and I repeated this five times, as I couldn't get the disc to work (checking the Preferences, and Project Info for settings: burn speed 1x, with High Quality encoding - not, Professional quality).
I put this copy into my MacBook Pro, but the disc won't read - says it s a blank disc. I've repeated this several times, but not had any luck yet, to make a playable DVD (and I need it to play on both Mac and PC computers).
I"ve even burned this as a Disc Image, and opened with VLC, and the file plays...... but, now what...?
I cannot get a disc that plays, even in my Macbook Pro.  I would be grateful for your advice.

  • Playing one movie after another on one iDVD Project

    Hello,
I am making a slideshow dvd that has two sets of videos. One is a slideshow from iPhoto in .mov format and a ending in .m4v My problem is that I need to play the slideshow first and then the ending without having to go back to a menu. How would I go about this. Thank you

    Hi
Only way I know of is: Re-do the SlideShow in iMovie HD 6 as a full movie.
Add this to Your iDVD project.
No there are NON - Play all option in iDVD so when needing this one has to
feed iDVD with one full movie and then double with each Chapter as an individual
    small movie.
In DVD Studio pro this can be done: But price scarry and needs lot's of learning
    to do it right.

  • How do i add a second movie to an idvd project when 'sharing' from imovie always opens a new idid window?

I am creating an idvd project with multiple imovie projects.  I know I need to share my imovie project with Idvd.  WEhen I do that, idvd automatically opens.  Now I want to add a second project.  The problem is that when I share imovie projects a second time, it automatically opens a second idvd project.  I want to add multiple imovie projects on one idvd project.

One should not share directly to iDVD from iMovie.  The Share ➙ Media Browser option should be used as that results in a better quality movie in iDVD.  Do the same for both movies and you can drag the movies from the Media ➙ Movies pane in iDVD into the DVD menu window at the left.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How do I create a new iDVD project without a theme

I completed an iMovie HD project with an opening title (white letters on black) and all my edited film clips, transitions, sound, etc. It's just the way I want it when I play it back in iMovie. I shared it to Media Browser so I could import it into iDVD. When I start the new iDVD project is appears to force me to choose a Theme. I don't want a new theme. I just want my movie to look just the way I created in iMovie. How do I over ride this step?

A couple of ways to do this ....
    1. What I recommend is an "AutoStart Dvd" which involves dragging and dropping your QT movie / file while in mapview to the first / top box. This allows the movie to play in Kiosk Mode and you can also select the loop function so essentially you never actually see a start menu (just the movie) since the dvd will automatically play as soon as it's inserted into most set top dvd players or computers. (the following pic is from iDvd6 however the procedure is idential in iDvd'08 as well).
    2. A One Step Dvd from a QT movie / file is also possible and this approach has no menu at all.
To burn a OneStep DVD from a movie on your hard disk:
With iDVD open, choose File > “OneStep DVD from Movie.” as pictured above.
Locate the movie you want to add in the dialog that opens, then click Import.
Insert a blank DVD disc into your computer’s SuperDrive or an external drive when you are prompted to do so.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • How do I deleted a movie from an iDVD project

I created an iDVD project using a movie, and have decided to go back into iMovie and make changes to the movie I am using for this project. Since I have put so much time into putting photos and music in submenus, I want to use the same project I created, just replace the old movie with the new. I cannot figure out how to delete the old movie from the project. I have shared the new one thru Media Browser, and it is ready to be added, but I first need to delete the prior version from the iDVD project.
Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE BEFORE DELETING ANYTHING !!!
To delete a movie from iDVD: Open iDVD. Click once on the movie title to highlight it. Hit Delete. It should disappear in a poof of smoke.
If you have chapters in your movie, you need to delete the Scene Selection text button also.
But, when you reopen iDVD after changing your movie, before doing anything in iDVD, iDVD should give you a message that your 'assets have changed' and ask if you want iDVD to update. Click on yes/ok, but check your iDVD project before burning. The way it is supposed to work is that iDVD recognizes that you have made changes to your iMovie, uses the revised iMovie in its files instead of the first one, and uses the updated iMovie when you burn to disk or create a disk image. It is a nice feature so that you do not have to delete the iMovie already in iDVD and have to put in your updated newer version; iDVD is supposed to add the update itself, using the newer version of iMovie. It worked that way in iDVD 6.
However, if you have an iMovie with chapters, what happens with iDVD 8/9, as opposed to iDVD 6, is that iDVD does indeed recognize the changes and sends the 'do you want to update' message, but if you tell iDVD to go ahead and update, the chapters will no longer select correctly. They all will default to the same chapter no matter which one is selected.
I can't tell you whether or not iDVD will correctly play the updated movie if you don't have chapters. You will just have to try it.
If you do have chapters and/or incorporating the changes in iMovie does not work, the only 'fix' is to recreate the iDVD project. It takes time but is not difficult since you have done it once. Open a new iDVD project and put the updated iMovie into it. Do a "Save as Disk Image" to create a disk image file of your iDVD project. Play the disk image file with DVD Player. If it plays correctly, burn your disks from the disk image file using Disk Utility or Toast. You can delete the old iDVD project.
    Good luck with it!

  • How do I archive iDVD project? Best/Smallest size?

    Hi,
I need to know the best method to save a movie project that was made in imovie, then burned to DVD using iDVD. I want to save a copy of the finished product for archival purposes on an external drive. I want to be able to pull up this archive and be able to burn another copy of it to DVD or just be able to view the archived movie on my powerbook (directly from the external. I want it to be saved in the smallest size. I am ruling out saving the imovie project, as that is usually up to 12 or 14gb. I tried to save the iDVD project that was burned to a disc, but I wasn't able to view that again, or burn it to another dvd disc? Would it make sense for me to edit the project like always in imovie, open iDVD, and save it as a disc image first, and then burn it to DVD-R whenever I need a copy? And if I do this, is the disc image file going to be able to be viewed on the powerbook, without using the burned DVD? Also, I read on here that the iDVD doesn't have an option to burn to disc image? I know Toast Titanium does. I have that also. But, can I edit the movie in imovie, and then just open Toast Titanium and use it to make a disc image? And then at a later date, call up the disc image with Toast and just use Toast to burn a DVD? Also, I should note that I will need to burn 2 imovie projects to the DVD (they are 1 hr long t.v. episodes each) I need to put 2 episodes on each DVD. I know how to burn them from imovie directly to iDVD, but then I am back to the whole question of archiving them in something other than imovie projects or iDVD projects?????????
Thanks to anyone who can advise
    -Tom

    Oh my, where to begin.
If you think you will ever want to change your saved iDVD project (change the menu, add more videos) then keep the Project file. That is what iDVD can read. After you've burned a DVD (or made a disc image) with iDVD there still is an encoded MPEG inside the Project file. So you don't need to save the iMovie, just the iDVD project file (or project folder if your version has more than just a file).
A disc image is the same thing as having the video DVD written to your hard drive. iDVD doesn't open a DVD; nor will it open a disc image. When you mount a disc image (double-click on it) there will be a new icon on your desktop. If you open DVD player, it will play the movie from the mounted disc image the same as if it was playing a DVD disc. You may need to choose Open VIDEO_TS in the DVD player File menu and select the VIDEO_TS folder in the mounted image in order to play the video. If nothing appears on the screen, press the space bar to start playback.
Disc images are burned in Toast using the Image File option in the Copy window. You can burn one disc image to one DVD.
What I recommend is that you add your multiple movies to your one iDVD project before saving a disc image or burning a DVD. iDVD 4 can handle up to 2 hours of video per DVD, although I think it is best to keep at near 90 minutes or less for best quality.
As for saving a copy for future use: you need to save the iDVD project itself if you want to re-use it in iDVD. If not, you can save a disc image which is the same as burning another DVD except it is on the hard drive. By the way, Toast can make a disc image from your burned DVD. Insert the DVD, select it in the Toast Copy window and choose "Save as Disc Image" from the Toast File menu.

  • I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to fill the whole screen of my iMac with the photos included in an iDVD project. (iDVD v. 7.1.2)

How to fill the whole screen of my iMac with the photos I included in an iDVD project. (iDVD v. 7.1.2). I mean, during playing the burned dvd.
When I do "Enter Full Screen", the slide show fills the screen but the photo itself remains in the middle with a wide black border filling the rest.
    Any cure for this ?

    Hi
In iDVD Preferences - Turn off - TV-Safe area - and the Photos will fill the full area with just letterboxing or pillars as max.
Then "Save as a DiskImage" and test this and see if this plays better - before burning DVDs that's not as You want them.

  • Downloaded from iTunes, won't play in iDVD

I have some mpeg4 files that I downloaded from the iTunes Library online. I am attempting to use them in an iDVD project, but some of them will not play. Some others will play. The ones that won't play in iDVD will still play in iTunes.
The files that don't work seem to have a little padlock in the upper left corner that I cannot get rid of.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello Curt,
The tracks that won't play in iDVD, were those tracks that you imported from a CD? Or did you purchase and download directly from iTunes?
If you can’t play a song purchased from the iTunes Store, you may have exceeded the number of computers on which you can play your purchases.
Unless the song is an iTunes Plus version, you can play an iTunes Store purchase on up to five authorized computers. After you authorize five computers (by playing purchases on those computers), you can’t play the songs on a sixth computer until you deauthorize one of the five authorized computers. (For instructions on deauthorizing a computer, click the first link below.)
If the song is available as an iTunes Plus download, you may ugrade the song at the iTunes Store.
If you're listening to a shared library or playlist, iTunes skips iTunes Store purchases if your computer hasn't been authorized to play them. To listen to a purchased song in a shared library or playlist, double-click the song. If your computer isn't authorized to play songs purchased by the person who is sharing the song, you'll need to enter that person's Apple or AOL account ID and password to hear the song.
You might be trying to play an AAC file that was not created using iTunes or downloaded from the iTunes Store. Songs you download from the iTunes Store or import into your library using the AAC encoder are encoded using the new MPEG-4 AAC format, and play in iTunes and on your iPod. Other AAC files that you find on the Internet or elsewhere won't play in iTunes.
If you’re trying to play a song on a CD that you burned using iTunes, make sure the equipment on which you're trying to play the CD is appropriate for the disc's format. For example, if you burned a CD-RW disc, you can play it only on your computer and some newer CD players. If you burned an MP3 disc, it should work in your computer and on special MP3 CD players, but not on standard consumer audio CD players. You can't play DVDs burned using iTunes on most consumer DVD players.

  • Building iDVD project - white flashes at the beginning of each scene during playback?

I am building a DVD project with multiple movies.  I used the Bronze Wedding in the "old themes" menu, which was less problematic than the 7.0 themes.  When I click on the segment to play, there is a moment (probably just 1 frame) of white that flashes before the segment starts playing.  This is not in my original Final Cut Express movie, and it happens in every segment, not just at the beginning of each movie.
I used Final Cut Express v.4.0.1, iDVD v.7.0.4 and the entire amount of footage on the project (3 separate movies) lasts a total of 1 hour and 17 minutes.
Any ideas what this flashing white screen is?

  • How do I upload an idvd project to youtube or facebook?

I would love to upload an idvd project to youtube to share on facebook. Currently, my imovie does not work (that's another help question for another time). I am not sure if iphoto is an option because my idvd project has many movie clips in the slideshow. Also, I tried the burning option and then ripping the dvd, BUT... for some reason, the music doesn't match the slides when burned on a dvd... but plays fine in the idvd project. In fact, the DVD's burned are not even regonized in the DVD player... but recognized when put into the computer (but audio is off). Anyways... I look forward to your support and help!!

This tutorial shows you how to upload an iDVD created DVD to youtube.  There are other ways of doing this, but this method is fairly easy and allows you to upload videos longer than 15 minutes.
