CD and DVD roms not working

I have just installed a 845PE Max2 motherboard and 2.4GHz Intel processor.  I have kept my CD writer and DVD from my old machine.
The PC boots up fine but does not recognise the ROMs at all.
Anyone any ideas what I could have done wrong?

May be because
1) The cable you use is a hard-drive 80- conductor cable, do not use this cable for Cd-drives, use an ATA-33 Spec cable, conductor-40 for Cd-rom drives and other drives not capabale of ata-66 or higher.
2) The cable may not be polarised and you have put the cable round the wrong way
3) Both of the drives could be slaves/masters/or on cable select. Choose ONE to be the master and ONE to be the slave device.
4) You have not given the drives a power-source (by plugging them into the psu! ) )

  • Mac OS X 10.6.8 is running slow and DVD Rom not working

Have trouble with OS X 10.6.8 so i was told to reinstall my os from the original DVD but my dvd rom is not responding.  I put cd or dvd in and it just spits it right back out.  HELP IS NEEDED

Try and clean the lens.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk or wrap a business cards with a fine micro fiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) and carefully insert it into the slot.
If no success, replace the DVD drive or connect an external one via USB.

  • DVD ROM not working on OS X 10.4

Hi guys. I just authored a DVD in DVD SP 4.1 that contains both video and ROM content. The disc works fine in all systems that it has been tested in except for OS X 10.4. I've searched the web and these forums and can not find a similar issue. Is there a compatibility issue between DVD SP 4 and 10.4? I'm working on a G5 Intel Mac running 10.5.6.
Also, the ROM product does work fine when running from the desktop in 10.4.11, just not from the disc. This is why I am assuming it is a disc compatibility issue.
Would an upgrade to 4.1.2 or 4.2 help me out at all?

The ROM folder is present on the disc like it is supposed to be, onlyt when you double click the launcher to start the application, nothing happens. This only happens on OSX 10.4... on all other systems, it tests alright.
And the ROM application works fine when downloaded directly to the desktop on 10.4 so I know the app itself is fine. But if I try to play it from the disc, or if I copy the ROM folder from the disc to the desktop, the application does not work.
So that tells me that 10.4 is not liking the way DVDSP wrote the ROM data on the disc. But this seems to be the only OS that has this problem. I was hoping I could find a solution since the product does actually work on 10.4, just not from the disc.
However, I informed my client what was going on and they had no problems with that OS being left out... they just asked me to update the system requirements to say OSX 10.5 and up. So that helps but I still didn't solve the problem.

  • Macbook-DVD Rom not working

My Macbook Dvd rom has stopped working. It is not reading any DVDs or CDs. When I insert a DVD it tries to read it but after a minute or two it spits it out. I don't know what the problem is? Even though the system profiler shows it working fine and also the disk utility. On vista side it is the same problem. Please advise what I should do?

    Hi,
You could order a replacement drive and install the drive yourself. You can Google search for MacBook optical drives and find suppliers. Probably the best do-it-yourself directions for working on your MacBook can be found at http://www.ifixit.com. It is not too difficult as long as you have a good set of miniature screwdrivers and tweezers or needle nose pliers. Expect to spend between $50 and $200 depending on the drive speed rating and vendor from whom you purchase a SuperDrive.
If you don't need to burn DVDs, you could replace the SuperDrive with a Combo Drive, which seems to be a much more rugged device.
The final option is to simply disregard the internal drive and use an external device. As long as you are running OS X 10.4.2 or newer, most external CD/DVD burners are suported without needing to use additional software. If you purchase a well known brand, it should be OK. I have an internal Combo Drive and use an external Sony DRU-120A, and it works well. I recommend checking on Google to verify OS X support before purchasing an external drive.
    Best wishes,
    Bill

  • DVD ROM NOT WORKING AFTER INSTALLING WINDOWS 7

what to do please i am facing great trouble because of this issue.

I HAVE FOUND A FIX! Searching through the support blogs paid off in a big way. A minor registry edit is all it took and my drive is working like new! Here's the fix. My system is Windows 10 64-bit.  Resolution 5: Create a registry subkey
Note To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. If you need help verifying that you are an administrator, go tohttp://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin
Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
To create the registry subkey, follow these steps:
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run box. (or right-click on windows icon in lower left corner)
Type regedit in the Run box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
In the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
Right-click atapi, point to New, then click Key.
Type Controller0, and then press Enter.
Right-click Controller0, point to New, and then click DWORD(32-bit) Value .
Type EnumDevice1, and then press Enter.
        Right-click EnumDevice1, click Modify....
Type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
        Exit Registry Editor.

  • DVD ROM not working with Windows 8.1...I need the driver please.

My CD/DVD/BluRay Drive is not working since I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1.  I really need the driver as soon as possible.  I really need the DVD/CD Drive to work.  I spent so much money getting this laptop to where it needs to be.  I bought new hard drives and everything.  Please tell me that you are going to provide a driver for Windows 8.1.

    Hi @biokimyaci
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you are looking for a driver for your CD/DVD or optical drive. There are no specific drivers for the optical drive they are generic Windows drivers that come as part of the operating system. Go to your Device Manager and under DVD/CD-Rom drives right click what you have there and select Uninstall. They restart your computer and Windows will automatically install the driver. What is the product number for your notebook?
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue.

  • Photo DVD: Saving images to DVD-ROM not working

When creating a photo slide show In iDVD, there is an option to save the photos to the DVD-ROM portion of the disc so that viewers can download them to their own computer.
After I created a photo slide show in iDVD, it played just fine on both the computer and on a DVD player. But when I have the DVD in my computer's super drive and I try to access any of the photos (jpeg files) that are on the DVD-ROM portion, I get an error message saying they can't be opened.
    What am I doing wrong?
I have iLife 09 with iDVD version 7.1.2. My OS is Lion 10.7.2.

    > 8mp camera and I have the images saved in TIFF which are 22.9m in size
    That makes no sense.
    > So resolution is not an issue.
    Yes it is.
There are 2 issues here: file format and image size/resolution.
The best format depends upon what the print shop will accept. Often, JPEG is the only option and simply saving at the highest quality will give excellent results. If the option is available from the shop, give them a non-lossy format - TIFF is probably best.
With image size it's all down to pixels and looking at th epixel size of your image is what matters. The "resolution" [PPI value] is simply the ratio of pixels in the image to inches on paper. So long as you PPI is at least 200 and no more than, say, 600, you are OK. Print shops operate in 2 ways:
The expensive ones will take your image and you tell them how big you want to print and they do it.
The cheaper ones require the image be carefully prepared to be the right size - i.e. have the PPI set so that the size in inches is right.
In my experience, the cheaper ones, while requiring more work, often produce the best results.
If you are in the UK, email me [colin_walls AT yahoo DOT com] and I will direct you to an excellent mail-order printer, who is cheap, reliable and produces excellent results. [I have no business connection with them, except that I'm a happy customer.]

  • A205-S5825 Dvd-Rom not working after reinstall

My hard drive on my A205-S5825 recently failed and I took it in for repair. After a couple of weeks I got it back with a new hard drive and everything seemed fine. I went to play a disc in my rom drive and I realize it cannot be found. It's not in the peripherals list under my computer. It shows up in my device manager, and this is the info it gives me there.
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
I think it might be as simple as the device driver was never installed upon my reinstall. Problem with that is Toshiba does not seem to offer the proper driver for download, they have a bunch of other stuff, but no dvd-rom drivers.
I am running a system on Windows Vista, 32 bit I believe. The drive is a TSSTcorp TS-L632H ATA
Has anyone experienced this problem? Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to find the driver or a possible fix?

    Hi,
The following procedure will test if your notebook can start from a bootable disc in the CD/DVD drive - the advantage of trying this is that it will rule out any possible Windows driver error as the CD/DVD drive is under the control of the Bios when starting the notebook.  So if you find that the notebook will not boot from the CD or DVD, then it's almost certainly a Hardware fault in the optical drive itself and it will need to be replaced.  The following assumes you're using Windows 7.
Using another PC, create a Windows 7 Rescue CD and DVD.  Download the relevant ISO from the link below.
    Windows 7 32bit
    Windows 7 64bit
You need use an application such as ImgBurn to correctly burn the ISO to a CD and then also burn it to a DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, shut down the notebook, tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up menu, insert the CD, select Boot Options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to highlight the optical drive and hit enter - if you get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue', do so and see if it boots from this disc - if it does, let the first screen come up ( this will show repair options etc ) then just remove the CD and repeat the procedure with the DVD to see if it will also boot from this disc.
If the notebook will not boot from the CD, it may well just load straight into Windows, in which case, just try booting from the DVD.
If you can't boot from either disc, then it would look like the optical drive will need to be replaced.

  • DVD-ROM not working (S1800-804)

Suddenly the DVD stopped working. The indicator lamp is turned on constantly. The dvd seems to initiate when putting in a disc but doesnt actually read any cds or dvds. Nothing happens. Anybody that recognize this behaviour, or what do?
    (BIOS 2.20)

    HI,
you can check your BIOS settings? Start your Notebook and press immediately ESC key. Then load the default settings and save it!
Then you can check if the Recovery CD is loaded when pressing "C" immediately after starting the Notebook! (CD-ROM must be setted to Primary Boot device!)
If it doesn't work, it would be possible that your drive is damaged! Then you should contact a Service Partner.

  • DVD Rom not working

Have a Pavillion dv7-1175nr.  My system has quit rcognizing the drive.  Tried reinstalling the driver and get the following message when I troubleshoot.
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I am unable to re-install the driver, when i do it says driver is working fine.  I am running Vista.

Read through these boards ... tweaking those filters is not solving the problem in a majority of these cases.   These is something really wrong here ... lots of people are having the vanishing drive problem without much resolution.   I too have had these problem for several weeks, maybe a lot longer, not sure.   I tried updating bios, drivers, registry, reseating the drive, and all sorts of diagnostics.   It's too convenient for HP to merely say "bad drive - go get a new one"  (I am 3 weeks over the warantee).  If so many drives have suddenly gone bad they should do a recall ... though I reallydoubt this is the case.  More than likely some windows update (I have vista home premium) perhaps combined with HP updates has rendered the drive / driver unusable for now.   My experience and gut tells me it is a bios glitch ...  I am not sure I want to down-grade the bios to find out though.
    Any thoughts?

  • A70 Satellite DVD-ROM not working

Drive will not see any disc I put in or allow me to access it in any way.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Is anyone else having this same problem?

How old is your system/drive?  I have had the same issue several times over the course of owning PCs, etc. and those drives will one day just die.  They won't read any disk.  If indeed it did die replacement shouldn't be all that expensive or difficult.

What I can do now to solve this problem? in shell script or any other way?

    Hi,
A DVD drive that is not working after many years not used:
most probably dust on the little laser lens.
Take the drive out and if you can reach this lens: clean it with pure alcohol on Q-Tip.
Many people throw away cd or dvd players all the time because they stopped working, and very often it can easily be fixed by cleaning this lens.
I used to have a G5, where I couldn't access that lens. It was very sensitive to dust.
I have fixed it several times with compressed air. One time I didn't have canned air, but a bikepump did the trick.
If you have another mac, I'd try to access the G4 internal disk with firewire target disk mode.
    good luck

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
