CD and DVD'S eject 5 sec after put in. on ibook g4

I've been reading a bunch of posts about ejection of cd & dvd 5 sec after it is put in. mine started it today. i read a post about a lose connection. so i tapped on the computer very kightly and the disk 1 started to spin, and stayed in for 30 sec. after 5 times of doing the same thing i grabbed the 9.2 disk.put it in and it tried to install.so i tried again this time tapping and holding it upside down on my shoulder. after doing the clicking all the yes's i put it upside down on the couch. ckecked it a few times and it was installing the os 9.2 i was playing with the 9.2 and have not tried to put the os 10.4 back in the ibook. i just thought this was very strange...if anyone else tries please post it . thanks

The obvious!?! there might be something stuck in the drive. It's happend to me part of a label had come off in the drive. Causing the drive to eject cds/dvds.
How did I find out? I ended up swapping the drive. Opened up the old drive and found the label.
Another problem could be a loose connection. You need to lift the keyboard, take out the memory shield. Just to the right of the memory slot. You will see either an orange or white flat cable. The cables can come loose. You can check to see if the white cable is sitting parallel with the connector.
This guide will take you through the steps

Also is the drive showing in your system profiler?

If you don't have a SuperDrive you will not be able to burn DVDs.
Did iDVD come preinstalled on your Mac?  If it did then you should have a SuperDrive and be able to burn DVDS. Check the Disk Burning section of System Information

  • Satellite A100-049: CDs and DVDs don't read after standby

I have a new satellite A100-049 that came with vista home premium pre-installed. After returning to the computer from sleep/standby (Whatever the mode is when the light pulses yellow) no discs can be read in the drive. The disc will spin continually but nothing will happen.
Everything works fine when the computer is turned on first time, but after sleep it stops reading discs. Is there anything I can do about this?

It doesn't recognize it when i re-insert it or put it in fresh after standby. It just keep spinning without loading. Wierd thing is, if i try to load a program with the disc spinning and by clicking on the desktop icon and then take the disc out while it isn't loading I get a message saying please insert disc

  • Hp photosmart 6510 printing and photocopying blank pages even after putting in new ink cardridges

    Hi there, can anyone help?
My photosmart 6510 has recently started printing and photocopying blank pages.  The ink cardridges were low and I have replaced them with new ones. I have cleaned the printer head and the test comes out in colour.
I have no idea what to do other than buy a new one !
    Any advice appreciated.

    Hi @TG13,
I'd like to help. Please begin with the steps in the following document; Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage an...  < this applies to the 6510, and 6515 too.
If you complete, or have already completed all of the steps in the document above and the issue continues, my own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if the printer is out of warranty; How to fix a HP Printer, not printing black ink and missing colours

I tried most of the suggestions in this thread, but stopped short of disassembling the print head. Nothing worked until I saw the video referenced in Sunshyn2005's message. That did work, but not on my first try. For the second attempt, I left the wet paper towels in place for a couple of hours to really soak the print heads. That did the trick.
So, thank you Sunshyn2005, for pointing me to the solution.   - Source
Although the printer might be out of warranty, if the issue persists, HP may be able to offer you something. Maybe they can offer you a discount on an alternate model. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Uninstalling Touchsmart--will webcam and dvd player still work?

I want to uninstall the touchsmart features on my 610 running Windows 7 Professional.  I do not use touchsmart and the touch capability causes problems--for example, my screen can be messed up, I assume by staic electricit, if a piece of paper is moved near it.
My question is this:  Will the webcam and dvd player still work after the touchsmart programs are removed.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hi,
You can disable it using the following methods. Others will stay and work:

  • Dvd player ejects discs

When I insert a cd or dvd in the cd/dvd player it trys to start playing the cd/dvd then ejects it after about 15-20 seconds

You can try a DVD lens cleaner disk.  It may work if the optics are dirty.  If that does not work,  look at this:

Hi there. Hear are some other options . Hold down for click on the track pad while restarting and keep it down all the way thru boot. Or use right click on a mouse. If it's stuck, sometimes sticking a business card in top edge of slot while trying the eject option can work.

  • Macbook pro 13" won't install OS X 10.4 after harddisk erased and dvd will not eject!

After backing up the machine, I took what I thought was the correct installation disk and booted from the CD/DVD.  I erased the hard disk using the Disk Utility.  Then I tried to reboot to install the original operating system.  After several hours I received the message:  Cannot install Mac OS X on this machine.  The computer was running 10.4.3 before I erased it.  I don't understand why the restore to factory settings didn't work.  Now I have another problem.  The CD/DVD does not eject.  Without an operating system on the hard drive, it automatically boots from the CD/DVD and will not eject the boot disk!
What do I do?  How do I get the CD/DVD out?  How do I find a good disk

Hello, hold the mouse button down while booting up to eject it.
The original Disc would be gray.

  • I purhased an apple usb cd/dvd and I have a cd disk that won't eject even after going into controls and selecting disk eject any ideas how I can take of the issue?

I have a cd disk stuck in my USB super drive, it won't eject even after going to control and selecting eject disk

    Hi BCservant,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be concerning when you cannot eject a disk from your external drive. There are a few troubleshooting steps that I would recommend to help you get this situation resolved. Please use the attached article for troubleshooting information.
Get help with the slot-loading SuperDrive on your Mac computer - Apple Support
Doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly
If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to be struggling, insert and eject a single disc several times. Check the disc to see if it has a label or other material stuck to the disc that increases the thickness. Remove the label if possible.
If the disc will not eject, try pressing the eject key on the keyboard. Some older keyboards may use the F12 key to eject discs.
If the disc will not eject, try dragging the disc icon to the trash.
If the disc will still not eject, try holding down the trackpad or mouse button after restarting the computer. The Superdrive should attempt to eject the disc.
If the disc continues not to eject, reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and try steps 1-4 again.
If the disc still does not eject, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional assistance.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • Optical DVD drive ejects any inserted disc and does not work!

I can not read or write certain DVDs in my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro since upgrading to Mountain Lion.
I insert an empty DVD-R (Verbatim) and it is being ejected. I insert a recorded DVD-R (Verbatim) and it is being ejected.
I have tried a commercial Video DVD - (Sony) and that one actually did work ... so I am pretty clueless - I can not write any DVD right now.
In the forum I have found many posts regarding this issue under Lion already.
However, my drive used to work fine under Lion and I was able to watch / record DVDs etc.
Now, it is no longer working and I can not use it. Does anyone know how to solve this?
So far I have found the following hints (which did not work for me):
ALL OF THESE THINGS DID NOT WORK:
    1) Reset the PRAM (https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379)
    2) Uninstall all virtual machines (Virtual Box, etc.)
    3) SMC Reset (https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964)
some people talk about it being an issue with the 64 bit kernel and that you should try to reboot into 32bit (holding down 32 on startup)
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3770
others blame it on the UDF format (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3413998)
There are too many articles in the forums about this - more to make this a random issue.
The most disturbing thing to me is that multiple of the people in these threads contacted Apple and in the end where told, it's probably a bug... now why is this - obviously critical bug - not being resolved, yet ?

the list could probably be continued, but I'll leave it at this

I also had the same problem shortly after upgrading. My optical DVD drive ejects any disk I put in. This started about 2 months ago.
I just got back from the Apple store, after setting up an appointment, and they told me that my life is horrible because my MacBook Pro is no longer under warranty as of 32 days ago. This is really BS.
However just like any other company that treats me with poor customer service I just take my future business elsewhere and make sure not to recommend them to any friends and family - as well as tell them about my horrid experience.

  • IMac 17" Hard Drive and DVD dead after install.

I am attempting to install a WD 250gig hard drive into a 17” flat panel 800mhz imac. I followed the directions of taking the base apart and installing the new drive with great care. The Original 80 gig drive was set to master and the DVD drive was set to slave. I set the new WD drive to master and put the base back together. All I got was a flashing question mark. That was not unexpected, but I have been unable to get the iMac to recognize the existence of a hard drive or the DVD superdrive. I started the iMac from my Powerbook in firewire target mode. And verified that the iMac does not see the drives within the system information or the Disk Utility.
I have tried resetting PRAM, changing the jumpers on both drives, making the DVD master and the HD slave, setting the HD on cable select. Formatting the HD in my Powermac and cloning the original HD to it with CCC and replaced the ribbon cable. I now can take this iMac apart and put it back together faster then a Chinese factory worker.
I have abandon hopes of a new hard drive and put the 80 gig back in exactly as I found it. The iMac will not recognize the original configuration either. I started this project as favor for my sister who owns the iMac. There is not a lot of money here to send the whole works into service.
Does anyone have any ideas on what went wrong?
Is there a way I can test the power supply to the drives?
    imac 17" FP 800 mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Well we figured it out. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. Since nothing we did worked, I figured we had nothing to lose. With the assistance of my electronics wiz brother, we powered up the iMac while having the base opened and the components spread out on a table. Using a voltmeter, we determined we were only getting 3.6 volts to the drives. It should have been 12 volts. Somehow, something went wrong with the system board. After careful examination under a magnifying glass and some prodding with a voltmeter, we discovered that a tiny component next to the power connector on the system board fell off. It was no more than 2mm across and was marked (L13). We figured this was an inductance component and probably a filtering device for the power to the drives. We powered up the board and jumped the leads with a screwdriver. The HD and DVD fired right up. A careful soldering across L13 made the fix permanent. I got it all put back together and everything is running great.
The moral of the story; be extremely careful when pulling connectors off the system board. I must have knocked the component off when I first took the iMac apart. I just got lucky we found out what it was and were able to find a quick fix.
This a nice little iMac, but i never want to work on one again.

had the exact same problem. Found by accident a solution on eBay.

--- part of the description ---
    Q) The drive keeps ejecting CDs and DVDs after installation?
    A) The screws which holds the drive chassis down are apparently too long for the drive. I suggest loosen them or screw the left drive rail in with a single screw in the front, removed the CD guide completely and screwed it all back together
The back screws should be loosened and / or left out completely if the problem persists.
    --- end part ---
So I decided to open my MBP and used the guides form ww.ifixit.com and loosened the screws as described above, closed my MBP.
The problem is now gone !
