CD Burn Doesn't Finalize

I am trying to burn a CD but it won't finalize! I am attempting to burn a 7 hour audio program onto several audio cd's. The first disc burned and then the drive opened, asking me to remove disc 1 and to insert a blank for disc 2. Disc 2 will not finalize. I tried to stop the burn and it's "Cancelling disc burn.. this may take a minute or two." It's been over 30 minutes and nothing has changed.
All CD's are brand new, straight from their jewel cases. The audio file is an audible.com (aa) file. Disc 1 plays just fine.
I attempted to do this twice and it hung up on disc 1 the first attempt, then disc 2 the second attempt. Since you can't select which disk to start with with a burn fails, you have to start from the beginning each time.
Any solutions?

Are you using good quality CDs? Sometimes cheaper CDs, even new ones, can cause problems. I find TDK to be very reliable.
What speed are you using for burning? For audio CDs it's sometimes best to use a slow speed (2x or 4x).
Hope that helps.

  • DVD Burner Doesn't Fit!! Any others?

Just bought a LaCie 16x LightScribe internal DVD+-R double layer burner since it was recommended on this site, and now come to find it doesn't fit by millimeters due to the mirrored doors.
Any other DVD burner suggestions? I mean, a size that actually fits the mirror-doored Mac?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

You'd think that all optical drives would be the same size, but they're not. I found that one out several years ago..
If the drive is indeed too long to mount in the drive carrier and seat fully into the chassis (you say by only a few millimeters) and you've done the obligatory step of removing the tray bezel, the next step would be to remove the entire faceplate of the drive. Depending on the drive, there are usually at least four tabs on the faceplate that hold in the drive chassis. Simply press in the tabs with a small screwdriver while prying the faceplate forward. That may give you the clearance you need to get the drive to fit.

  • DVD burner doesn't fit correctly in Mac Pro

Added a new (second) DVD burner to my Mac Pro. It fits (I took the tray face plate off) but it's tight. So tight it won't eject all the way. I have to help it come out all the way. It's a Phillips DVD burner but seems to be the same dimensions as any other.
I've tested it, it's not the burner that is at fault. It seems to be dragging on the bottom of the slot. Normally, I'd just adjust the seating, but Apple's screw holes don't really allow for adjustment.
How can I make this drive sit about 1/8" higher so it slides out normally?

    but it's tight
And how tight did you screw it in because it doesn't needed to be "Nailed Down" just tight enough not to move or rattle! Loosen the screws near the front of the drive a little and see that helps.

  • External dvd reader/burner doesn't show in Finder

Hi and thanks in advance for your help -
I've just purchased an external dvd burner because the pre-super drive dvd reader in my macbook is getting a little tires. It doesn't appear in the finder, but when I check with the System Profiler or Disk Utility application, it is listed there. It's a no-brand dvd burner (from the Fnac chain in France) which appears as a "Slimtype DVD A DS8A3S", am I missing something here?
    Thanks

That was the next question I was going to ask.
If your external DVD player has its own power supply, you should definitely use it. If it came with 2 USB cables, it's in your best interest to use both of them with DVD player. One will be responsible for transferring data from the DVD player to the computer, along with supplying some power. The second cable will provide the rest of the power for the drive

  • DVD Burner doesn't show up in DVD SP -

In the Build & Format dialog box, there is a drop down menu to choose your destination. Only my hard drive is available. Shouldn't my SuperDrive appear there, also?
I'm having trouble burning a simple DVD - hitting the BURN button results in the response Formatting Succesful - Formatting Finished. The encoded files have been created, I see, but it won't burn a disk. Yes, the DVD media is blank.
I was able to burn recently using the same machine and software. I'm running DVD SP 4.03. on Mac OS X 10.4.3.
Why doesn't DVD SP recognize my DVD burner?
    Thanks.

Sorry, Tom, I disagree. Perhaps you are used to a different OS, but I don't normally think to restart my Mac when I have a problem, nor does any other Mac user I know.
I am having the same issue. I purchased a new MacPro a couple of weeks ago, installed Final Cut Studio, and did a software update. When I run DVD Studio Pro, it does not show my DVD burner as an output device. A restart did not help. Also, if a restart is required, either the installation or the software update should say so. Neither did.

  • CD burner doesn't work

I've just tried to burn two CDs, in the way I have always done; buy opening 2 Finder windows, & copying the album across to the window with the CD in it, & clicking 'Burn', Suddenly this doesn't work; I get a CD which shows wierd letters in the window of my CD player - like 'AO 1' - & nothing plays. Does anyone have any ideas? I absolutely hate burning Cds via iTunes, as it is completely stupid - you cannot burn directly from albums; you have to move the album to a pointless 'playlist' first (which I will never play as I will always play the original album - doh).

    hi there-
the first thing i would do is go to utilities > disk utility and repair permissions. then boot to the install disk and repair the disk. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 if it still isn't working, then try doing the combo update for 10.4.8 available here. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ good luck. • DVD burner doesn't burn CD or DVD

Laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6700 CTO Entertainment .  I have been attempting to create a data DVD.  When I attempt to burn the DVD with Power2Go, it goes through the process, but nothing is burned to the disc and the disc appears empty after the burn process is completed.  The same thing occurs using other software burning applications.  It is as if I requested a simulation.  I have tried different brands of media and no improvement.
I had this problem when the computer was new and I couldn't burn a Recovery disc.  So, HP sent me one.  Then before the computer was returned for repairs, it started working.  Now it won't.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Mike G.

    Hi Mike,
First of all you could try the automated fixit for your Operating System from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
If the above fix hasn't worked, try the following.  From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this.  Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices.  Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is working.
If the above has not resolved the problem, carry on with the process below.
First run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
Let me know how it goes.
    Best wishes,
    DP-K

  • DVD burn doesn't offer correct speed

I have an iMac iSight (PowerMac12,1 PowerPC G5) with Matshita DVD-R UJ-846 SuperDrive. Mac OS X 10.4.8. According to the Tech Spec this iMac writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 8x speed.
If I use DVD-R media, and try to write using a burn folder, Finder says the maximum speed is 2x. Toast Titanium 5.2.3 also says the maximum burn speed is 2x, it correctly reports the disk size as 4.something GB, and offers Simulation mode burn.
If I use DVD+R media, and try to write using a burn folder, Finder says the maximum speed is 8x. Toast Titanium 5.2.3 also says the maximum burn speed is 8x, it incorrectly reports the disk size as 8 GB, and does not offers Simulation mode burn.
What on earth is going on?
I appreciate that Toast is not an Apple product, but I expect Toast is only reporting what Apple tells it, and similar faults appear in the Finder response.
Does burning from Finder verify the disk, because at the end of the process, there in no window visible saying that verification was successful?
(Note this does not seem to be related to the fault on SuperDrives relating to High-Speed media (Apple article 86130), because my drive is not a Pioneer drive).
    iMac iSight G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Note the phrase "up to". The maximum burning speed may be less than that specified on the disk blank, especially if the discs are faster than those available when the drive was manufactured. The drive make, model, and firmware version of the drive, and the brand of disc, may limit the speed to a lower value than that specified for the drive or the disc. For example, the first Quicksilver superdrive would burn 2X DVDs at 2X, but would only burn 4X DVDs (which didn't exist when the drive was made) at 1X. Try different brands of discs. I have good luck with Verbatim DVD-R. The newer Pioneer drives seem to be able to burn discs at their rated speed.
I don't know why Toast would report the wrong disc size. When using Finder's burn folders, you can click the small round button at the lower-right to see the disc size and space used. Does it show the correct size for the DVD+R discs? Are you sure they are not DVD+R DL discs, which are larger?
The Finder does verify discs it burns. If you look at the progress bar, you will see it change from "Writing" to "Verifying". If there is a verify error, it will eject the disc, rather than mount it, when finished. It will also display an error window. If the verify is successful, it will mount the disc, but not display a window. Disk Utility gives you a choice of what to do when the burn is complete, and always displays a window indicating success or failure.

  • Lenovo Slim USB Portable DVD burner doesn't work

This burner works fine on all my colleagues lenovo thinkpads but won't work on my Yoga. Very frustrating! Any suggestions

    Hello,
Is the external DVD drive plugged into two USB ports on the computer?  One USB port may not provide enough current to power the drive.

  • IDVD burn doesn't boot

Having made an iMovie-6 (MPEG-4) and either exported it to iDVD-6 or imported it, I use Toast (Data) to burn the DVD at various speeds, including 1x, and always get the same error message when I then try to boot the file from the burned DVD disk: "File is not writable - an error occurred while lading the project. This project seems to be write-protected and can't be opened."
I've tried various combinations, using DVD-ROM (UDF), PC/Mac, etc., but to no avail. Help GREATLY appreciated. Keith

Can't thank you enough, Bengt! It's wonderful that you provide so many with so much help. As a newbie, I struggled for days trying to burn DVDs for my 4 children and 8 grandchildren of an iMovie I made of places my family had lived since 1899, including scenes of good time from the last 42 years in our last house, which we have to sell because my wife and I are getting too old for it. Your tips worked!
A few of technical questions or comments: 1. I couldn't find a download for iMovie 6.0.4. Where did you get it? 2. I wasn't sure where to "drop the iMovie project icon into iDVD," the first drop zone? Not knowing, I just imported it, which worked. 3. I couldn't readily find Verbatim disks and used Maxell, which seem OK. 4. My first try didn't work; after 4 hours, the attempt to make a disk image just stopped. I had 27G free, but boosted that to 32G for the second try, which succeeded in 4+ hours. Including the 30-minute disk burn, it took 4.5 hours to complete a 30 minute iMovie burn.
Again, I owe you a great debt of gratitude. Keep up ;your fine help, and let me know if you are ever in the San Francisco area so I can thank you properly. Keith

  • My disc reader/burner doesn't work, the disc gets ejected

Hello, I am trying to burn a movie created in imovie and exported to iDVD burned onto a DVD, but I just realized the burner is not working. It makes some reading noises and it ejects the discs. I have rebooted the computer, tried different discs, tried to put music disc and nothig. I am not sure if it is a problem with my machine and if I should take it to apple. At the same time, I really need this project burned so I put the iDVD project into my portable drive and inserted into a mac book to see if I could burn it there, but it says that the file is incomplete... Now I will try to create a disc image and see if the would work transfering it into a portable device and into another computer..
I would appreciate so much your guidance I am lost! Thank you

Hi, the DMG is a great idea to try.
On the iMac, you might try one of those head cleaning Discs, or...

  • Can't burn, doesn't recognize blank cd-r's, just spits them back out!

I've never had this problem before. I went to burn a playlist in itunes and when it asked to insert a blank cd, I did and it sounded like it was going to work, only to have it just spit it out without even an error code.
A couple times a bit ago I was getting that stupid 0x8002006D error code, so I just assumed maybe I had so bad cd-r's, so I bought new one's and still didn't work.
Now nothing is happening, it just makes that startup sound about 3 times before it spits the cd out without even acknowledging that one was ever inserted! I've even just tried inserting a cd without itunes up to see if it'll prompt me onscreen abot what I want to do, but no, nothing! It pops back out.
It's soo frustrating! What can I do?!

Ok gents, Now hear my story with the Legandary Optical Drive, Few weeks ago my logic board failed as my MBP is End of 2007 made ( As these models made that time known for the logic board high failure rate ), Any way, Went to the apple storehere in Thailand and they told it would take about 10 days to 2 weks to fix, Ok no problems go ahead but i stated in their check form that PLEASE CHECK MY OPTICAL DRIVE AS IT'S ACTING FUNNY!!, It spits out the DVD or don't even read any CDs, 10 days later they called me PLEASE COME TO GET YOUR MACHINE, IT'S READY ( BTW i forgot to tell you gents that this apple store is 990 KM away from where i live ), So booked a domestic flight ticket to Bangkok and went to the apple store and tried it and everything was ok EXCEPT.... guess what? My superdrive scratched 4 brand new DVDs just infront of them while their final report which i have a copy of it says that the superdrive was checked and running fine!! Ok guys whats going on? They apologized with blooded faces and took the superdrive out and told me it would take another 10 days to bring a new one from Singapore ! Ok no issues go ahead and order a new one for me please, After 3 weeks they called me ( last week ) that the apple tech guy is coming down to where i live along with a brand new DVD drive ( It was not new BTW, It was a repaired one fixed in singapore but they told me it's a brand new one, It was full of scratches and smells like it's been used, I assume every one knows how a brand new electronic device smells and looks like), He came in and installed it and another surprise !! This one even did not take any CD or DVD at all, The moment i push the disk in, Few seconds and it spits it out again!!, This time i was really out of my mind, i told the guy what is going on now, He replied that he need to take my MBP along with him and give it another look and fix, I told Him NO NO NO!! Now this time you want to take my Mac, You give me a replacememnt till you fix mine then i will give you back the one i took from you, Since i get alot of work to be done on my mac and i can't really stay without it for few days as i get some presentations to do ( This happened today ) and till new i didn't get my superdrive, Now remember that i was in their repair shop for about 10 days when they were replacing my logic board !! i'm really thinking of buying an external drive. So sorry for a long story.

  • External CD Drive puts skip between songs, but laptop burner doesn't, Why?

I've bought an external CD burner because my one in the laptop has started to pack in and has slowed down big time, but when I burn a mixed house CD on the external burner it puts a stutter between songs, where as if I burn the same CD on the laptop burner there is no stutter it's a smooth transition, all the burning settings are the same, e.g no gap selected. I just can't work out why it's doing it. And i'm trying to get it sorted before the laptop burner packs in all together.
    Any help much appreciated.

I have a "solution" for the problem I have.
Firstly, I should add that the drive I'm using to import songs to iTunes from my CD's is a SONY DVD/RW+- that is connected to my laptop through a USB which is through a PCMCIA card that makes it USB2, and not USB1, which is my laptop's internal USB port.
When I connect the DVD drive to the internal USB port I have the same problem as above, so it's not because of the PCMCIA card. My internal CDRW/DVD drive does not work properly all of the time so I don't use it, but it was able to import some of a CD into iTunes 5.0, so it's clearly something to do with either my SONY drive or the fact it's connected through a USB.
    Anyway, here's my SOLUTION:
I use a programme called Alcohol 120% to creat an image of the CD that I want to put into iTunes onto my hard drive. I then use the Alcohol programme to mount the CD on to a virtual CD/DVD drive. I then load up iTunes and it detects the CD as real and then I can import the tracks in the normal way by highlighting them in iTunes and dragging them into the playlist that I wish.
I hope this helps. Let me know what happens.
    Cheers.

  • The DVD I burned doesn't include artist names

To burn my music collection onto a DVD I used Select All in the edit menu and dragged everything from the Music Folder into the Burn Folder. When I burned the songs onto a DVD the songs were all there but the artist names were missing. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Rgds

    Where are they missing?
What are you using to look for artist names?
What kind of files? AAC, WAV, MP3?
