CD burn "not authorized"

Today I purchased a new album from iTunes, but when I tried to burn it onto a CD I got the message "(song title).M4P was not authorized for digital export. I have had no problems burning in the past. I am using Version 7.7.1. Any solutions out there? Nancy

Were you using iTunes to burn or some other burning program?
As MWN mentioned, songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store are protected AAC files (.m4p) - iTunes has the necessary decoder built in to decrypt the purchases for burning to an audio CD.
Other burning applications do not have the decoder built in, and as such, will not burn protected purchases to an audio CD.
Hope this helps,

  • ITunes songs are not burning - not authorized???

On my main menu screen, i have music that burns fine but when I go to the second menu screen the song does not play after the burn. During the steps of burning it asks several times, this song is not authorized to... please open itunes and enter your username and password to authorize. After i click the "open itunes" button, it just hangs for a few minutes and then i put in my password and then it continues to burn. After the burn I pop the disk in the dvd player and there's no music.
And yes, i previewed and tested the music in idvd before i burned it.
    Any ideas?

  • This computer is not authorized to play or burn...

I just installed Windows XP in my computer and I downloaded music from Apple store. When I try to sync my iPod, it says that I am not authorized to play the music. I can't even seem to burn it into a CD. Does anybody know what I need to do? Thanks.

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes, or play one of the purchased songs on your computer; after providing your account details, you should now be able to transfer the music to your iPod.

  • Itunes cancels burns because "you are not authorized"

Update to my question posted 23 June 2007. I continue to have the same problem with syncing my ipod that I described in my original post. I have to "authorize" the (already authorized) computer every time I connect my ipod while itunes starts erasing the ipod, then sync again to replace the tracks that were erased. Annoying but not impossible.
Just d/l'd itunes 8. Problem is now worse. I am unable to burn a CD of a recently purchased song because "you are not authorized". I've tried authorizing the PC. I've tried de-authorizing and then re-authorizing computer. itunes invariably tells me I've successfully authorized, then tells me I'm not authorized when I try to burn the CD.
Would love to hear suggestions before I waste another morning on the phone with tech support!

Just ran into this myself, not having synced since May. Came on line to find the answer myself. Even more complicated, out of a list of 100 songs that it told my I was not authorized to play on this computer, some of them are actually still on my ipod (thank god), but now I'm afraid to resync for fear I will lose them or other items. Sorry I don't have the answer. I came looking for the answer myself. Could you, however, help me with how you are trying to "re-authorize" your computer, as I do not even know how to do that. Thanks.

  • Why won't songs burn to cd. computer not authorized

The computer has been authorized and is the administrater but, when I try to burn a cd, it deletes half of the songs and tells me the computer is not authorized.  I never had this problem before updating iTunes.

  • Burn fails - says I'm not authorized-BUT I AM!

Since upgrading to iTunes 7.6 I can no longer burn audio CD's. I have tried this with purchased music, rips from my own CD collection, and a mixture of both. In every case, as iTunes is "preparing" to burn the playlist it cancels the burn, ejects the disc, and gives me this message:
"One or more of the items in this playlist are not authorized for use on this machine. Authorizing this machine to play these items will allow them to be burned."
The problem is that the songs are already authorized and they play(ed) just fine. It's just the audio CD burn. I can burn a data CD fine. Anyhow, I went ahead and re-authorized. No luck. Then I DE-authorized and re-authorized again. Still no luck. By the way, I only have 3 computers authorized according to Apple (and that is correct).
I installed 7.6.1 this week thinking that perhaps this bug would be fixed, but it wasn't.

I have the exact same problem. I have songs that play fine, but give that error when I go to burn them. I tried de-authorizing and re-authorizing, and the same thing occurs. I have 3 out of the 5 authorized as well. The songs are an on external drive - haven't tried on an internal drive yet. Either way, this is pretty annoying!

  • Error message:  Cannot sync songs purchased in iTunes to iTouch because computer is not authorized.  I go in and authorize computer (only computer I have ever used for iTunes), seems to be successful.  Then I try to sync again and it gives same error mesg

It just goes in a circle.  This computer not authorized to sync purchased songs to iTouch.  Follow directions to authorize computer, seems successful.  Sync again and it comes up with the same error message....this computer not authorized to sync iTune purchases to iTouch.  I have deauthorized the computer and reauthorized and it didn't make a difference.  I updated and restored to factory settings.  Still same error message.  I have had this problem the last 2 times I have synced.  Worked previously.  Any ideas??

additional info:  I looked into similar complaints.  1 suggested that something is wrong with the files.  Delete them off of computer and divice (but they are not on my divice anymore) and then download them again from iTunes purchase history.  Went in to check iTunes purchases to make sure the songs would be there if I did follow these steps.  Well, NONE of them are in my purchase history.....probably the real problem here.  I had an original iPod Nano and then upgraded to my current iTouch.....same computer for both.  Could there have been a problem at the point of switching over to the iTouch?  That doesn't make sence to me because it is through iTunes and it was the same account for both.  I thought I'd be smart and put all the songs in a playlist and burn to a CD and them load them back in that way.....but I was not authorized to burn to a CD....go figure.  Any idease would be great!!

  • "One or more songs are not authorized" except they all are?

I made a play list tonight that I wanted to burn to a CD for a friend. When I went to burn it, I got an error message saying "One or more of the songs in this play list are not authorized on this computer." Apple's help page said I could figure out which songs weren't authorized by trying to play them and that the unauthorized songs wouldn't play...except they all played just fine.
First I tried rebooting. Didn't help. Then I tried removing each purchased song one at a time. Didn't help. Then I removed all the purchased songs. STILL didn't help. Finally I tried burning a play list that I'd made and burned a month ago. That one burned just fine.
So I have a play list now made up exclusively of tracks that I imported into iTunes from CDs, none purchased from the iTunes store, and I'm still getting an error message that says "One or more of the songs in this play list are not authorized on this computer." ***? And more importantly, is there any way I can find out which freaking song is causing the problem without trying to burn each one individually to a separate CD?

  • ITunes will not copy certain songs to my iPhone - I'm "not authorized for it on this computer"

Hi.  I get an error when I try to transfer certain songs from my computer to my iPhone.  I get the following error, "(song name) was not copied to iPhone "____" because you are not authorized for it on this computer." For the particular songs for which this error comes up, I purchased them many years ago.  I had them on my PC and transferred them to my iPhone just fine.  I recently got rid of the PC and bought a Mac Mini (yay!) and copied my files over to the new computer. Then, I connected my iPhone to the Mini and synced it.  Then, I noticed that there were some songs on my phone that I didn't want on it so I unchecked them in the Library on the Mini and chose the "sync only checked songs" option and synced again.  Nothing changed.  So, then I did an Autofill thinking that would make the selected songs on my Mini and matched the songs I wanted on my iPhone.  That's when I noticed the songs missing on my iPhone (songs that I had selected on my Mini and wanted on the iPhone).  I've never really been able to figure out how to work iTunes so I'm sure I've done something wrong.  I can't decifer the error message so your help would be greatly appreciated.  (I've authorized the Mini.)
Any ideas what the problem might be?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi there!
I've a very similar & the same problem but for me this has been happening ever since iTunes 7.1.5, so not exclusively since 7.2 was launched
In addition to the same problem you're having, iTunes will not sync any of my converted DVD movies and several video podcasts giving me the same error message you mentioned. If it try to play these video's out side of iTunes with QuickTime, I get 'Error -36: An I/O Error' warning and thats it, but I can play with any other media player including the dreaded Windows Media Player! If I copy these files on to a separate HHD, Flash Stick or on to another PC (i.e. so they’re played from not in the iTunes folder in my documents) they all work fine and oddly also with QuickTime, so I'm happy the files are not corrupt. I'm afraid to attempt to play any remaining video's that I managed to sync sometime before this problem in iTunes because when I do, its then that I can never use it again and it gets removed from my iPod!
I can't find anything on this problem anywhere, and I don't know where to go to get help from Apple not that I’m sure they’d be too helpful?
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Jaime

  • IPod not updating cuz I'm not authorized to play some songs on my computer

I updated to the newest Itunes version, but my ipod won't update with the songs that I purchased from Itunes. It did update the songs that I burned from a CD.
The error message is: Some of the songs in the ITunes music library were not copied to your IPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer.
I went to advanced --> Deauthorize computer, and tried to click off of the top setting, which is "Deauthorize Computer for Music Store Account" but could not click off of that.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Moving iDVD archive to new MacBook show movie not authorized

I just bought I MacBook Pro and I have an older iMac. I'm trying to transfer an iDVD archive project from the iMac to the MacBook so I can burn the DVD (my older iMac don't have a DVD burner). I was able to create an iDVD archive and copy it to my MacBook. However, when I try to load the movie it says my computer is not authorized to play a movie purchased on iTunes.
    1. I have authorized the MacBook with the same iTunes account and verified I share the same iTunes library.
    2. The 'movie' was not purchased on iTunes. It is a slide show of family photos.
    3. iDVD keeps prompting me to enter my iTune ID and password, which I enter each time, but when I try to burn the DVD it says the DVD map has errors. I checked the map and again it prompts me for my iTunes account for my personal movie file.
I tried deauthorizing the MacBook then reauthorizing but to no avail? What am I doing wrong?

  • PURCHASED iTUNES NOT AUTHORIZED FOR DIGITAL EXPORT

I am trying in vein to burn the songs I have bought in the iTunes store to a CD so I can play them in my car. However they come with a small padlock symbol in the top left corner. If I try to burn them onto a CD, a message comes up saying the song is not authorized for digital export. I have chosen audio CD in iTunes-preferences-advanced-burning, but this has no effect, I have authorized my computer also. Does this mean I have wasted my money buying these tunes and have to sit at my mac to listen to them and nowhere else?? This is making my blood boil!

Dragging it to the desktop is the problem. It sounds like you're not burning the disk from within iTunes. Create a playlist in iTunes and select Burn Playlist to Disc. And make sure the iTunes prefs for Burning are set to Audio CD. I have an iTunes store purchase in my library that is burned to CD and plays in my car. When I just dragged that track to my desktop, I see the little lock you're speaking of. Try burning from iTunes and it should work.

  • During DVD creation, get this message "Music not authorized to play"

I cannot get the music to record on my DVD. This just started two days ago right after I upgraded to v 7.3.1 of iTunes. I have successfully burned dozens of DVDs prior to this. I wonder if the iTunes upgrade is not compatible with iDVD now.
My problem is that I continuously get a message that the 3 songs I am using are "not authorized to play on this computer". This is BS because I downloaded them on this machine and they will play in iTunes. 7 days ago, these 3 songs downloaded onto the first DVD that I burnt, so they are authorized.
Also I get a message in iDVD that the program cannot access iTunes and that I must upgrade to version 4.0 or later.

    Hi Tom
Don't know the real problem BUT accordingly
    music/audio from iTunes there
often is problems about - silece parts when making
    the DVD.
The work around this is - and might most probably
    help You too.
    - In iTunes select audio needed
    - Export out as an audio-DV .aiff
    - Use the audio on this in Your movie project
∆ Now it should work OK
Tedious - Yes I know but this is a working solution.
    Yours Bengt W
thanks for your suggestion. I can try that, but it is tedious and I have not had to do that before. I want to be able to do this as quickly as I did before when the music played all the way through and I did not get those messages that said "this computer is not authorized to play this song"
I want to go back to iTunes, v 7.3 that I used before the recent upgrade to 7.3.1 since that older version worked.
Are you listening Apple techs???? You have a problem with v 7.3.1 upgrade. I am going to try to do this project on my lap mac which has not bee upgraded.

  • Not authorized for digital export

I am trying to burn a CD from songs that I have purched from iTunes. But I am getting an error message that reads that the song is an MP4 and is not authorized for digital export. What do I have to do in order to burn this CD?

Make sure you have the Burning preferences set to "audio CD".

  • Unable to work with songs.  Says computer is not authorized, it is.  Have tried deauthorizing and then reauthorizing, that works, but still get the msg that computer is not authorized.  What to do?  Thanks!

I have an older pc with itune songs on it.  Trying to burn to disk.  Tells me that the computer is not authorized to do this, it is.  Have tried de-authorizing it and re-authorizing it and I'm able to do that.  Then if I try to authorize it, it says it already is, but still won't allow me to work with my songs, still says not authorized.  The songs I'm trying to burn were purchased from the itunes store, but don't show up on my purchased songs on my new iMac, not sure how to find them.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Thanks for trying to help!
Tried it without much success though.
Looked good at first. I was able to unauthorize it and after rebooting all I went in under "store" and authorized it again, witch it did without a hassle.
But, when I had restarted everything again and tried to sync with me iPhone I still got "Part of the programs in the iTunes library, for instance 'yadda-yadda-app' was not installed on the iPhone unit 'The name of my iPhone' because you are not authorized for them on this computer. You can authorize this computer for purchases by choosing store - Authorize this computer"
(Translation to english might include minor errors...
So... Any other ideas on how to sync my iPhone with my iTunes?
(Oh, and my iPhone has never been jailbroken or anything like that.)
