Cd burn software missing

HELP ! i've a real headache here regarding the combo drive. i think i may have deleted the software that burns the audio onto cd, when i inserted a cd to burn it said "no burn software" and with that it would not eject the cd. i've tried all combos to eject (safe mode, single user, hold restart, command+e,emptied the pram,f12,first aid, check permissions, repair permissions etc and nothing at all works,i've scanned the forums but to no avail, there must be someone out there that has heard of this problem and solved it, any help would be greatly appreciated. mastercircuit (first time posting a problem and new user to apple forums)

Hmmmm... No Eject.menu along with those others? I just checked and I have it right next to them in my Tiger. It's disquieting that something disappears like that.

Still, holding down the mouse button at startup should eject the disk because those features work without an operating system even being present on the computer. If it isn't working it suggests something very fundamentally wrong - maybe a broken drive. Have you tried all those eject options, especially those that are done before the computer even starts booting properly?
I think once you get the disk out it is time for:
Boot from the installer disk, select language if applicable, choose utilities, run Disk Utility and verify (and repair if necessary) the drive. You can verify a drive from DU on your main drive while booted but I have found this can result in incorrect reporting of errors. To repair your drive you have to run it from a drive other than the boot drive anyway.
Next, boot from your drive in [Safe Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393] and repair permissions. You can repair permissions while booted from the installer disc but this uses the permissions configuration on the installer disc which may be out of date if you have run any updates on your computer. Booting your computer to Safe Mode restricts the number of things running on your computer while permissions are being run and does a bit of spring cleaning at the same time.

From BDaqua (couldn't have said it better):
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes."

  • IDVD burning software missing from my applications

Help! How can I get IDVD reinstalled on my G4 Quicksilver 933 MHZ with a super drive? I had a repair done to it and the tech erased the hard disk and started over and somehow lost IDVD. I had updated it to OS X.3.9, but now I want to burn a DVD and IDVD is not installed. I don't know how to get it off the original disks that came with the computer. Can anyone give me some directions? It is an older version but I don't want to buy a new copy of ILife when the burning software obviously came with the computer.
Mac G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Have Super Drive and no IDVD

Sue in IDVD 5 sent me a link to directions from an Apple tech article. It worked. I used the second of the two sets of directions since I had five "software restore" CDs. I made a folder on the desktop, copied each disk image in the configurations folder of each CD, and had to tweak the directions a bit. I am running Panther, so there is no "disk copy" but I clicked on the first disk image and it eventually opened and voila it had all the application software icons, I Photo, I Movie, etc. I copied the IDVD to the applications folder of the hard drive, so that it can update automatically.
I'm sure that others may have the same situation. The Apple directions actually said not to do this if you now have a newer OS than the original disks, but it never touches the operating system since you use only the software restore CDs. However, it took almost an hour for the whole operation. But, it worked, so it may work for someone else who doesn't want to buy another application.

When I attempt to log on to I tunes I get the following message:
"The registry settings used by the I Tunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?  Do I need to download a new driver?

I can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.

  • When I start iTunes I get this message: 'The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDl and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.' It doesn't work.

I have tried reinstalling numerous times but I keep getting the same message and I cannot use the burning feature.  I have other burning software on my computer but it has always been there.  This problem just started recently.  Please help!

    This same thing happened to me about two months. ago. I bought a new harddrive for my previously-fried netbook, and when I installed iTunes it gave me the missing registry business. So I came online and looked for solutions. This solution led to a different 'can't burn' error in iTunes, and I found a solution to that one, and it was like I was running in circles for a solid two weeks. Finally I managed to fix the problem, but after trying it hundreds of times I couldn't tell you which solution won out. Well, everything was fine and dandy, until I upgraded iTunes last night. Now its back to the same registry settings problem, and I want to maim something. Someone please help me ;___;

  • Cannot locate Burner Software

Ok. So, I installed new Itunes...Now, it says "Registry Settings used by Itunes driver for importing, burning are missing. this can happen as a result of installing other CD Burn Software. Please re-install Itunes"
Here is what I have done so far:
(1)I used Microsoft Fixit for my CD Drive. It has now made my drive invisible to Itunes and Roxio.
(2)I removed both Itunes and Roxio software and reinstalled. Still cannot locate CD/DVD Drive.
(3)I tried regedit that Apple suggest, however, I do not have files UpperFilters and Lowerfilters on the screen. I followed all 10 steps and its not there.
    Anyone have any ideas?

no I didn't see the upper / lower, I am not computer oriented to mess with the regestry, I am amazed apple have not said a word about this update, it sure makes you think about buying thier products in the future, but then again all the big companies are now the same way, take a look at the Blu-ray nonsense in the last couple of years with firmware updates every month just play a movie!

  • CD driver/burning software

I would like to replace the original 600i CD reader in a PPC 8500 running 8.6 with one that is a CD writer/DVD reader out of an old Sawtooth 350 G4 for burning data CDs.
    As I jumped from 7.5.3 R2 to OsX on newer Mac(s), I missed out on OS8 and OS9 until I bought this 8500 running OS8 as a replacement for a Quadra 800.
I don't know when Apple introduced the CD writers so I an unsure which driver(s) or burning software to use.
I understand that Toast 3.7.1 and Toast 4 will burn with 8.6 but cannot find a link to this software, either from the original devs - Adaptec, the Roxio site or by Googling.
I would much appreciate it if someone could point me to some links for a driver of the CD writer and also some burning software to run under 8.6
    CD/DVD driver 1.2.2 is installed
    Thanx

I don't know whether a dvd/cdr out of a G4 will work in an 8500, you might be able to find reports from others who have done it, here.
Regarding Toast, I'm in Sydney, Aus., and several years ago I bought Toast 4 from a seller on eBay US. I've just checked and found that a seller in Melbourne has Toast 4 Deluxe listed on both eBay Aus and US under 'other Apple Mac software', finishing in a few days.

  • My itunes will not burn cd. telling me new burning software added may cause this

I recently had Windows Vista put on my computer. I had Roxio put on it also. I tunes will not burn my playlist because of this. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes . this does not correct the problem. I tuunes is telling me there is no disc burner found.

    Hello bacovino,
From what you describe it sounds like you are getting this error message when trying to burn a CD in iTunes even after uninstalling the iTunes application:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I recommend uninstalling not only iTunes but its associated softwares as well, as outlined in the following article:
iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3299
iTunes installs a device filter which helps it work with your optical drive. If this device filter is missing, you will see the message mentioned above. To resolve this issue, follow the steps below to reinstall iTunes and put the device filter back in place:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
If the issue persists after re installing iTunes again, there is additional troubleshooting in the article that involves installing the device filter in Windows, which it walks you through.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Drivers for importing and burning CDs missing

I've just installed itunes(V8) on my replacement pc and every time I open itunes I get the following message. "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."

  • "registry settings for importing and burning are missing..."

I have installed itunes and the appropriate quicktime, but am not able to import any music. When I put cds in the drive, they do not even show up. I'm not sure if there is some other program blocking this importing or showing up of cds, but I get a message that says,
"the registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall Itunes."
However, the reinstalling doesn't fix it, and I'm not sure what to change or fix about the other cd player/burners on my computer to make itunes work properly (the laptop is new, and came with windows media, jukebox, etc...). How do I make itunes the default cd burner? Or how do I fix this problem otherwise?
    Thanks.

  • Equium L40 - strange issue burning files using Toshiba CD burning software

Under VISTA and using the Toshiba CD burning software utility.
If I make three very short test files a.wav b.wav c.wav and burn them to a CD-RW I get three files burnt and they play fine on my home CD player.
But they are the wrong set of files!
Usually I find two or more copies of one file and one or more files missing.
    For example I might get a.wav b.wav b.wav or b.wav b.wav c.wav .
The set of files I get seems random and different each time I erase and burn again.
Do I have to give up on the Toshiba utility and go back to using Nero or have I found a way to mess up a perfectly good software utility?

I dont know how you have burned such files and what options you have chosen but I have never noticed such problems using the Toshiba burning software.
However, I prefer the Nero burning rom. This software is my favourite and I use the Nero despite of installed Toshiba burning software on my notebook
