CD Burner for Mac 9.2.2

Hi,
I am new to Mac computers. I recently got an old iMac (manufactured in 2000) but it does not have a CD Burner, only a CD reader. I am looking for an external CD Burner for my iMac
OS 9.2.2
G3
320 MB Built-in memory
It's got two FireWire conectors and four USB ports.
If you happen to know of any CD Burners on the market compatible with my old iMac, please let me know.
Thanks a lot.

Dan321...
OUCH, Dan. It may have been worth the extra $25-$50 to have an iMac with an internal CDRW drive.
External support is diminishing as we speak. You would have to throughly search out for one that hopefully includes some additional software or pay extra for decent software.
Forgit USB unless you have lots of time on your hands. It would burn 650MB very slow. Maybe up to 90 minutes per CD.
Good Luck!
...Ron

This may help, but it's an accessory with an extra cost:

This new Superdrive also supports DVD-Audio so you can load more music into it than a CD.

  • Dual Layer DVD Burner for Mac OS 9

I always figured that the 1 hour burn limit imposed by iDVD was done intentionally to help sell DVD Studio Pro. Now having bought a copy of DVD Studio, I find that the limitation is actually imposed by the number of layers a burner is capable of writing.
My research leads me to believe that Apple released a dual layer burner for the MacBook but no mention of its comaptibility for other models.
So is there a dual layer burner available for other model Macs and equally important will it work with Mac OS 9.2.2?

Funny, the link provided and researched before posting here does show
the MCE drive* to fully support Apple software without Roxio and has a
30 day guarantee if for any reason (including no evidence of failure)
they will replace or refund your money. Less installation fees, if any.
The primary issue, from your perspective, is the need to run OS 9.2.2
and presumably boot native and burn with it. Otherwise, the product
will perform as indicated in their write-up.
{A call to Other World Computing is recommended, to see if they have
    or know of a hardware replacement for what you specifically need.}
What they do say, in several places, indicating proper interface with
the Mac OS X system and applications, is:
    *An MCE Exclusive (10.4+ required)
    iLife '05+
Seamless integration with iLife, Mac OS X
The MCE 16X Internal SuperDrive Upgrade with Double Layer support is seamlessly compatible
with all of Apple's iApps including iTunes, iDVD, and iPhoto. In addition, it is compatible with Finder
Burning and DVD Studio Pro, Apple's professional DVD Authoring software.
These are often a choice for replacement hardware in out-of-warranty units.
And they often supersede the earlier hardware they replace, or match many
specs in new environments, depending on what product application's compared.
The earlier link to search results and product info direct from quality vendor sources
is a recommended path; call the actual company (note names of duration in resale)
or contact a regional or local parts vendor or authorized Apple repair center.
MCE's product, as listed, will do the job in OS X. It may work with Classic9 under X.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • BD Burner for Mac Pro

Does anyone know if there is any BD (Blue-Ray Disc) burner supports Mac Pro ? We have project created in FCP and then encoded with DVD SP4. Now we will have to complete it on a BD disc ...
    Any suggestions ?

You'll probably get more help in forums devoted to Final Cut and Pro Apps. You might want to see what Roxio Toast 10, just released.

  • Best dvd burner for Mac mini

What brand of DVD burner is most compatible with the Mac Mini? I haven't found one that specifically lists Mac OS in the specifications information.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Many brands are compatible, including Pioneer for example, but for the Mac mini, I'd start with http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/superdrive/ for internal and http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/ for externals. Of the latter, http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRBFWU2D112/ would be my own choice for DVD burner at reasonable price.
This supplier specializes in Mac peripherals, and these devices will certainly work. There are other suppliers and other brands of course, but the above is a good place to start.

  • Best options for external DVD burner for MAC Pro

The internal DVD/CD burner died in my MAC Pro -
    PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-111D
it wasn't ever reliable so I want to replace it with an external drive so when that one dies I don't have to take my computer to the Apple store to get it replaced & the worst part being without my computer for 3-4 days.
Any suggestions on a good reliable DVD burner are greatly appreciated.

A good bootable multi-interface enclosure (empty) for an external CD/DVD drive will run about US$70.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MRSFW8U2RF/
They also sell SATA drives pre-installed in that same enclosure.
Many users find installing an internal drive themselves no more difficult than doing a memory upgrade themselves.
Others prefer not to work inside their computer.
Based on your graphics card and the original drive, I expect your Mac Pro is an older model. All before 2009 accept an ATA INTERNAL drive such as this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/superdrive/Mac_Pro_Xeon
That page also has a video of how to install a replacement DVD drive.

  • Free cd/dvd burner for mac os 10.7 - the version i have is roxio toast but in os10.7.5 when i try to open app - it said  can't open app because powerpc apps arent supported ?

    - the version i have is roxio toast but in os10.7.5 when i try to open app - it said  can't open app because powerpc apps arent supported ?
is there a free app download to burn cd/dvd for os10.7?

Depending on what type of CD/DVD you intend to burn, you may not need any 3rd party applications:
    - To burn data CDs or DVDs simply insert a blank disc, drag files to the empty FInder window that represents the disc, then click the burn button (I think t appears near the top of the finder window).
    - To burn music CDs just use iTunes
    - To create disk images from a CD or DVD use Disk Utility.  To burn .iso or .cdr images to disc use Disk Utility.
About the only type of disc burning that you may need a 3rd party application for is to create a DVD movie (iDVD used to do this but no longer a supported app).  I haven't ever needed anything outside of the built-in capabilities of OS X when it comes to burnig CD or DVD media.  One suggestion is to make sure to remove all of the Roxio software so that it doesn't interfere with the built-in OS X capabilities.
    Hope this heps.

  • What is the best DVD burner for Mac OS Lion

I've recently bought a new iMac Lion desktop and was very disappointed to find out that I can't download DVD burning software. Is iSkysoft an okay software to use and is it better than iMovie.
I have also lost recent imports from my camcorder to iMovie because it shuts down!! I can't believe the new iMac SHUTS down unexpectedly!!!! I thought only PCs would do that!!! I am really annoyed.
Any ideas on how to find that hour of video on my computer?
    thanks
    J

Obviously you are having an issue with iMovie. I would recommend you begin trouble shooting that issue before looking for replacment software. There is an iMovie forum you can post to, also if you have purchased AppleCare or the machine is less than 90 days old you have AppleCare coverage and a possible solution is only a phone call away.

One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

    ibodnano:
You will find internal optical drivers from OWC here. You will find external DVD burners from OWC here.
For the external drives, almost any Firewire burner will be supported by your PowerBook. Here are a few. You can further refine the filters.

  • Itunes 8.1 for Mac CD Burning Issues??

Is anyone getting CD issues with this new 8.1 iTunes for Mac OS??
I am currently unable to burn any CDs after downloading the new iTunes 8 for Windows on two PCs and the CD burner on my MacBook is the last one in the household I have that will function in iTunes. I can't take the chance that this new 8.1 for Mac will blow my CD out.
If anyone has issues .. if you want to list them here .. I would be most appreciative.
    Thanks
    Message was edited by: Daphne3620 .. cause she can't type! ; )

Yes .. that is why I am really not into the idea of downloading 8.1 into my Mac and have it bust out my CD/DVD driver in there. I am currently downloading 8.1 into my PC .. I figure the CD/DVD is already screwed beyond belief and I have nothing to lose.
It is just very apparent after heading to the GEAR site that we are only supposed to request help via Apple and so far - sorry support Mac users .. there seems no one who can figure this out .. nor - frankly - should they. I mean - HELLO!?!?! Apple has an actual paid tech department, right? And their software broke it .. or their vendors software broke it .. why should we have to figure it out ourselves or EVEN WORSE - PAY to have phone support fix it. Again .. I didn't break it .. they did. Why the &^#% should I have to fix it.
It is just very frustrating and this was what I was trying to avoid in transitioning myself and my company out off of a Windows atmosphere and into an Apple OS one. Well.. if this is the kind of thing I can look forward to when I am fully transitioned and have a huge issue .. no thanks.

  • Blue Ray Burner for Early 2009 Mac Pro

Hello Folks I don't know if I am in the right area of the forum to ask this question. Here it is. Can any one tell me whats a good Blue Ray Burner for the Early 2009 8 Core Mac Tower. I do own Toast 10 with the Blue Ray Plug-in.
Whats the difference USB 3.0 to USB 2.0
    Thanks
    Steve

    videoguy4u,
I bought the LG/WH10LS30KMPT from OWC and installed it on my early 2008 Mac Pro.
Very tedious installation on the 2008 MP,but it works fine.
With Toast10 it works burning Blu ray and DVD,perhaps the original DvD drive can be removed.
Alt key needs to be pressed to open this second drive.
    Go for it.
If you are in the UK carriage and customs payment will double the cost.
But it arrived within seven days.
The shipping company in the UK will send you an email asking you to pay the duty by email.
It was delivered the next day after payment.
    Michael.

looking for a external blu ray dvd burner for my mac

There are plenty of options but I have found that the LaCie d2 http://blu-ray.burnworld.com/burners/lacie-d2.htm works more consistantly. I use Toast 11 mainly for Blu-Ray. The drive does come with a basic verison of the software which is good for most but you need to upgrade to do some serious authoring.

  • Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac

After talking with a bunch of salesmen (considering getting a DvD writer), I took the advice of someone in the Apple Store and bought a Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac to copy my laserdiscs. It was $100 before tax, and didn't do stuff I don't plan on doing anyway. I did spend another $25 to get an S-video cable.
I installed the software and connected it up to my LD. I started capturing the movie, and selected S-Video (although in the small window they showed, I didn't see any difference between that and video out. I selected a max time from a limited selection, and let it record.
After a while, I went downstairs and saw that the audio and video were not synchronized at all. I let it continue.
After a while I came down again, and the movie was finished, so I stopped it. I found the MP4 - it was in the iTunes movie directory, and played it in iTunes. I fast-forwarded it to near the end, the voice and video were way off-set.
I haven't tried burning this yet.
Quicktime player doesn't think this is a valid movie file. I selected "open with" and "other" and the recommended applications had iMovie greyed out.
Why in the world would the audio and video record at different speeds?
Do I have to buy software to edit the movie down to the correct size?
    My Mac has:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.21f4
I noticed the Pinacle Video Capture program was still running, so I tried to quit it, and got a window asking for my administrator ID and passsword to allow Pinnacle Video Capture to make changes. Why?

The audio drifted out of sync because the Dazzle doesn't support locked audio. For short videos (say, under 10 minutes) this won't be very noticeable but when you capture longer videos it becomes progressively worse over time.
What do you want to do with your Laserdisk copies? Watch them on your iPod? Edit and/or burn to DVD?
A device like the Canopus ADVC-110 will do the video/audio conversion properly, keeping the audio and video in sync regardless of the length of your video. It converts to DV, not to MP4, and you would use it with iMovie or Final Cut (not iTunes). However you can export your video from iMovie or Final Cut to iPod/AppleTV formats.
The Dazzle device will not work directly with iMovie or Final Cut.
ps. If all you really want to do is transfer your Laserdisc videos to DVDs, it will be a whole lot faster & simpler to get a DVD player/recorder that has analog inputs and record directly to DVDs. There are many brands & models to choose from and many good ones are as inexpensive as the $100 you spent on the Pinnacle converter.
