CD burning and partitioning

Question

Hi there,
Recently i have been running into a few problems with my Macbook. I have read around and understand sometimes the disk drives can mess up from time to time. I beleive that is whats going on here. I used to be able to burn CDs but now whenever i try and burn a CD it says that there is an error of some sort and the CD will not burn. Also, I used to be able to partition my Macbook all the time and have done so about 3 times and now i cant do that either. I have gone into Disk utility and tryed to repair and verify my drives just for good measure and it still doesnt seem to work
I was wondering if anyone else has these problems or if anyone knows what i can do. I want to try and fix this without having to go into the apple store.

Yes, of course. But remember that also includes virtual memory, so if the system is busy enough for disk access times to be important, there's likely a fair amount of paging going on, too, so it will be going back and forth frequently.

the OS partition can be adequately small and the data partition adequately large, making the physical distance between the end of the OS and the beginning of your data very small... however when considering OS partition size you not only need to consider capacity for future apps but also vm swap files, sleep image and extra space to prevent fragmentation of newly written files. Yes, exactly: if you guess wrong, you may make things worse -- either not leave enough free space for OSX, virtual memory, etc., slowing things down; or leave too much for OSX, squeezing the data partition, slowing things down, and making the distance the head must travel greater.
And if your guess is good today, will it still be good in a few months, after you've added more apps and/or changed your habits?
Everything I read says OSX is optimized to work best with OSX, apps and data to be on the same partition. Separate drives of course, is often best.
also adaptive hot file clustering is only for files less than 20 meg in size
That's the limit for automatic defragging.
I don't believe size has anything to do with hot file clustering; OSX will move whatever it needs to.
