Cd Cover Design - Dimensions

Hello I was looking for the dimensions for a front & back cover for an album design. I have got mixed results on Google. I would need the dimensions to include the front label of the cd (part where you see on the case when on a shelf)
Thanks

Just make two pieces of paper, one 4.75 x 4.75 inches and one 6 x 4.75 inches.  Cut them out, take a CD case apart, and fit them in the front and back.  The back will require folding.  Unfold it then measure the sizes of the "ears" on the ends that show on the edges or "spine" of the CD case.  That's how big you want the thin parts on the end.
You'll want to make two images, then.  One for the front, and one for the back.
I actually make my front images 9.5 x 4.75 inches, then fold it over so there's printing on the inside as well.  The folded paper tends to hold more tightly under the little tabs as well.
These images should give you an idea of how things have to be laid out:

  • [Desktop] Playlist Cover Designer

Because of this idea -> https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Customization-of-playlists-cover-and-description-box/idi-p/211048 being under consideration, I made this new idea that would be a good addition if the idea of customizing playlist covers is implemented. If you can soon upload your own playlist cover, it would be a great thing to use a lot of editing tools to make the best cover but not everyone knows how to do it. So, Spotify should create a Playlist Cover Designer app that helps people easily create playlists covers like a pro with Spotify helping them get alot of backgrounds, fonts and editing features that would make it unique without even getting the problem of copyright infringement (if you use a photo that is not yours) and it's free! This feature is a much need because some people might use the basic Paint app on windows that might make Spotify playlists look like ... (you know what it looks like when you edit on paint, I can't explain). The simple playlists covers edited through Paint and uploaded to Spotify might make Spotify's quality down.

Spotify is making a SOCIAL music streaming platform. This idea is about making a playlist cover designer app that helps people make their playlists look better and have more followers. If the idea of Customizing the playlist covers is implemented, this is a good thing because EVERYONE will have the ability to design their own playlists easily, not boring and not time consuming. I hope you understand that not everyone is capable of editing this stuff like a pro. Spotify is all about playlists, because, you know that the radio function doesn't work well. If you open Spotify, it will show you Browse filled with PLAYLISTS. What if there are some people who wants to share their Playlists and the quality of their playlists are better than Spotify, and they can't get exposure because of their boring covers? It can be another product but it will be what people will see as the BIG DIFFERENCE between competitors. If Spotify did this, they will allow it's millions of users SHARE their music tastes to another level!

  • Cover flow dimensions

    Hi,
I'm using the "Cover Flow" view in finder and it has an option to turn on the "Dimensions" colum. Which is really handy for my work because it instantly shows the dimensions of all the image files in the window. However, I can only turn this on, in the sub folders of my "Pictures" folders. Does anybody know a hack or an option panel where I can use this for all my other documents besides my photos?
    Thanks in advance.

These settings are only avaialble if the contents of the current folder contain them in their metadata. For example, drag a few pictures containing "Dimension" information to a folder that does not have these options, and you will see the folder will now have these options. There is no hack to enable this feature. Ultimately it is always enabled but just limited on a per-folder basis by its applicability and relevance to the folder's contents.

  • Cover size dimensions...

    Hi,
If the pages within a book or catalog are 8.5" x 11" (the spread, of course, is 17" x 11" flat), what would be the appropriate dimension the cover should be to accomodate with a bit of overhang?  There is no spine, but there will be 7 sheets composing of the pages. Is there a set standard used in the print industry?
    Thanks!

Yes, when everything is folded, I am worried about the cover's side edges coming in .25" or so, revealing the inside pages...but I suppose you are right; it's for the printer to figure out, and with a bit of bleed there should be no problem.
    Thank you!

  • Simple Design Analysis Question before designing dimensions and facts

Hi I have a simple question ... (I think its simple)
Suppose that i have the following staging table with the following columns:
    Student_Name | RollNo | Test_Date | Subject-Taken
    with data such as
    Kevin |123|12-4-2010|Physics
now suppose that I want to design a cube on the basis of the above table so that I can succesfully get the result of a query such as
List the names of all those students who took the test b/w 12-4-2010 to 12-5-2010 of the Subject Physics
Here what i need to know what dimensions/Levels would u set and what would be our fact?
I think that one dimension would be time ( but i am not sure how i would  accommodate and handle duration... any idea )
would it be wise to make each column a dimension ??? for example the student_nanme a dimension and details of the student its attributes??
Anyways the main thing is what bothers me is looking at the query we see that we are required 3 things the name of the student , the TestDate and subject taken so if i make the 3 columns the  dimension i am still not sure that i would be able to acomodate the query properly...any ideas on how to approach and handle these situations

Yes I mean Time dimension, however in a DW you will have many Time dimensions, instead of creating a physical object for each you use a ROLE. If you edit a dimension in OWB you'll see that you can specify a ROLE on the first tab.
Thanks for the great explaination... could you explain the process of roles a little more that will really save me some time... furthermore u stated
+ "instead of creating a physical object for each you use a ROLE" +
The way i create dimensions is right clicking dimensions and selecting dimension.... for a standard dimension
however incase of a time dimension i use a wizard... I am still a bit confused about "Physical objects" ... Id really really appreciated it if you can clarify this up...
as discussed before one dimension would be Student and other would be subject
and 3rd one would be TEST_DATE with role ?? and should that be a time_dimension or a standard dimension with a role defined ???

  • Query Designer - Dimension texts in German instead of English

    Hi,
I have an Infoset based on two DSOs and two Master Data info Objects.
When this Infoset is opened in Query Designer to create a new query, it is been observed that Dimension text from the DSOs is  displayed in German while the texts from Master Data Info Objects is in English.
We do not have problem with any other infosets.
What could be the problem? What settings are required here for the text to be displayed in English.
Profiles are set to English Language.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

Just a correction to the observation made: All the infosets have similar problem.

  • Best CD cover design tool

Of course, this question is bound to be in the wrong place but I appreaciate any feedback you guys can give me.
Im looking for a good all round easy to use cd case designer. The price doesn't really matter ,as long as its comprehensive enough to create professional looking cd covers. At the moment I use a programme thats not compatable with OSX, only windows. So when I make the swich from PC to Mac I need something to replace what im currently using.I dont fancy running bootcamp.
    Thanks for your help.

Why don't you just measure the cd? I have been using 12cmx12cm for the front cover and it worked fine.

  • What are the Photoshop design dimensions for Dreamweaver fluid grid layout?

If I were to build a website using Dreamweavers fluid grid layout, what are the dimensions in Photoshop I should be designing with?

FluidGrid Layouts are based on % widths; not fixed pixel widths.   As such your PShop design comps will need to be planned with these device widths in mind.
    320px - 480px wide = mobile
    481px - 768px width = small tablet
    600px - 1024px width = large tablet
    1024px - 1233px width = desktop/laptop

  • IPad 2 Smart Cover Design Flaw

Am I the only one to recognize that the Apple Smart Cover's greatest feature is also its fatal flaw? The Smart Cover’s “innovative” feature is that it folds to prop the iPad up for typing or better viewing, with its primary function to serve as a cover to protect your treasured iPad’s glass screen. However, hasn't anyone noticed that when you fold the Smart Cover into either of the two propping positions that the inner portion of the cover (the micro-fiber that supposed to "protect" the screen) comes in contact with whatever surface it is that you're using as a base. So, when you fold the cover back onto the iPad, any nastiness (e.g., dirt, dust, food, etc.) that was on the surface of the base (e.g., table, desk, airplane fold-out tray, etc.) has now attached to the inner portion of the cover and will then be in direct contact with your iPad's precious screen.
I love Apple, but this is one case where I believe they missed the mark and added fuel to the argument that they sometimes put too much emphasis on form and not enough on actual function. And, for the price that they’re asking for the Smart Cover, I, for one, expect more from Apple.
Message was edited by: Steven Corum

It takes an extra moment of thought, but my Smart cover can be folded either direction and still can be used in the two positions. But as others note, I would never set my iPad down on any surface that I had not checked to see if it was clean. Just as I do not use it with dirty fingers or hands.
I think that folks are expecting much more from a Smart Cover than it was actually designed to meet. It is for protecting the display, and incidentally was given the ability to hold the iPad in the two display positions. But it is only a cover, it is not a case. If you need the facilities of an actual case, this is not the product for you. It was made to apply and remove in a second. It facilitates its application by self-adjusting its position with the magnets.
But I am happy with mine as a cover to protect the glass display when not in use and nothing more. I remove the cover when I use the iPad. I have bough the Compass tripod stand by 12 South for positioning the iPad for serious use. I love using it with my Apple BT keyboard when I am using it for serious writing. However, for casual use like lounging in a comfy chair or in bed to read, surf or watch videos, I use it without the cover or anything else. If I am watching videos it is paired with BT headphones for the audio channel.
Rather than finding all the flaws of each accessory that does not meet your needs, why not look for the ones that other geniuses have devised that perhaps do?

  • Newb to prepress - cover design with spine CS3

I'm new to prepressing but I have a magazine that I'm putting together. It will be about 170 pages with a spine. I have an Illustrator template (front cover, spine, and back cover) that others have used before.
So far I've only worked with the internal pages of the magazine. How do I add this cover to the InDesign file?
As well, how do I put content on the inside front and back part of the cover?
    Thanks!

I answered this yesterday at http://forums.adobe.com/message/2459523#2459523
You need two files. The only thing I didn't mention, now that I look at yesterdays's response, is that you need to know the thickness of the spine. That, of course varies witht the page count and the weight of the paper. The printer should be able to supply that information for you.

  • Cover design preview a different colour to what is uploaded problem?

Just wondered if anyone has had this problem and if anyone has any suggestions. Every time I upload the new cover, it has a horrible dark blue tint to it which isn't on the original pdf file. This is the second cover I've uploaded for my book and I don't recall having this problem originally.
Has anybody else experienced this problem? Does it affect the final product?
    Thanks,
    Hannah

It's a fairly common problem that has been discussed numerous times over the years.
Lulu converts the image used for the Preview , but not for the book, into a Flash rendition.
You have to redesign the cover image to meet both requirements of the cover and of theme preview. It may take a number of iterations to achieve what you want.

  • Ibooks changes the dimensions of cover image

I have been working on an epub using Calibre as the converter platform. I have used the program in the past and it always works until now. I am working on a new book and the cover image dimensions are changed in iBooks. The image looks correct when I view it in an image viewer.
I have revised the cover image several times to change the dimensions, change the file size, modify the pixel count. The current dimensions are 1500 by 2400 pixels which is a size I have used before. The file size is 226kB. Any suggestions on how to get the cover image to show up correctly?

You don't think it would be that hard to get ACR to better match the in-camera engine...
I understand if its not able to read the "special" in camera user settings, such as increase saturation, etc as that may be proprietary...
But it (ACR) already knows what type of camera you are using... It would be nice if Adobe would make it at least set to better match the out-of-box camera settings per camera... it would be a much better starting point than the flat, discolored images I see, IMHO.
Example... the reds in my Rebel XT RAW's always come up orange, both in LR and ACR.

  • Book title/cover page not appearing in exported file?

Hello, for some reason my book title page on the exported file does not appear the same as my preview copy.
On my bookshelf, my preview copy (which has a small 'proof' flash) has the cover design as produced in the Author app.
I have exported the file for somebody else to check the contents of file, when they download and open the file in iBooks the file has a white cover with 'Book Title' on it, not the design that appears in the preview file.
    Many thanks

  • Book Cover for Print

Hello. I am working on my first book cover design and have studied all the tutorials I can find. It looks fine on my screen and when I export to jpg or png, it still looks good. But for whatever reason, the print company requires a pdf. When I create the pdf the whole thing goes to hell. It gets blurry for some reason. Is there a better way? I'm assuming there are some settings I'm missing or something like that, but I can't find anything that talks about this specific issue. Any thoughts?
    Chris

It's that simple... Unreal. I've been pulling my hair out feeling stupid for not being able to find the right settings, and here I should have been feeling stupid for not thinking of creating a single artboard.
Thanks for taking the time to walk me through all this. It was a big help.

  • Designer repository question

We currently have our designer repository at configuration 4.0.12.96.16. We were told that this version could be accessed by both Designer 6i and Designer 9i. The repository resides on an 8i database right now and we want to go to a 10g database.
I've checked the designer documentation on how to upgrade from a 6i or higher to 10g. However, i want to know if my designer 6i could still access this repository if i upgrade only the repository. The certification matrix doesn't cover designer 6i anymore...
Has anyone gone through this upgrade and can share lessons learned?

If you just upgrade de database version of the database where the repository resides from 8i to 10 there should be no problem. But if you upgrade the designer repository from 9i to 10g you will (probably) not be able to access this repository from a 6i or 9i client (only 10g client).
