  • DVD drive ejects blank DVD R

Every time I load a blank DVD R into the built in drive it ejects. This has only happened recently. Any thoughts please

yes, there are countless blank media types, and there is NO DVD burner out there that will feed them all.
DID you switch to a new DVD blank media?
Also cheap DVD blank media has about a 10% reject ratio......try further down the stack

If it also ejects commercial DVD movies, you have a dirty laser diode lens.

  • Disfunctional DVD Drive (ejects all DVD's)

Hi, there's something wrong with my sister's DVD drive on her mac mini. She bought the computer two years ago and this problem has been going on for two months. Whenever she puts a DVD in the drive it "thinks" for a moment and then ejects it. It doesn't even load it onto the desktop. The strange thing is, when I installed Mac OS 10.4 yesterday I was able to do it from this drive, and for a little while after, DVD's were working on it. A bit later, a DVD became stuck inside and she had to restart. But now, as usual, she has to use an external drive. Anybody got any ideas about this? I appreciate anything. Thanks.

    I'm so sorry.
    I have the same drive.
Let me put it this way: google Matshita UJ-835F and see what comes up. It isn't good.
Basically, everyone I have encountered with this drive has had problem after problem with it. I've done everything that can be done and it looks like I will be buying an external drive once Christmas shopping is over.
I am more than a little bitter.
If you're still under warranty or have Applecare you should be able to get a replacement.
I don't find it a coincidence that the name of this drive has a certain four letters in it...

  • Le lecteur dvd ejecte les dvd det ne les li plus

je n'arrive plus a lire mes dvd le lecteur les ejecte environ 10 sec apres les avoir inséré.

    Hi
Please use English - as many of us struggle with translation - or do You want my thoughts in Swedish ?
    A. Is this a home made DVD or a commercial movie one ?
    B. Can it be Memorex or other cheap brand ?
    C. Did You set down burn speed to x2 or x4 - Best is not best - and Higher Speed = More Burn ERRORS
    D. Was it a DVD+R or DVD+/-RW disk ?
    E. SL-DVD or DL-DVD ?
    I only use
    • Verbatim
    • DVD-R (as they plays on more DVD-players even older ones
    • Never DVD+/-RW - as they use to give problems
    • SL-DVDs as they too - works better for me
BTW - Google Translate gave this:
dvd drive ejects the DVD det do more li
I came over to read my dvd player the ejected about 10 seconds after having inserted.
I guess that there is a misspelling or error somewhwer - and Google Translate can not Guess - Neither can I.

  • Empty DVD drive spins and hums while battery is charging

This is odd and specific: When the battery runs down on my Powerbook and goes to sleep, I plug in the charger and the DVD drive starts spinning. It gives a continuous hum, despite being empty, which stops when I sleep the computer. When I reawaken it, it hums again. It takes three or four times of waking and sleeping before the DVD drive finally stops spinning. Pressing the Eject button does nothing and the drive has no media in it. It only does it while the battery is charging; once it's charged, unplugging and replugging does nothing. Any idea what's up? How to get it to stop? Thanks!

Arvin: Are you quite certain there's no disc in the drive? Nearly all of the vibration that you feel and the sound that you hear when an optical drive is operating normally is caused by the disc itself being minutely (or sometimes not so minutely) unbalanced. There should be far less noise and vibration without any disc in the drive, because only the drive motor is spinning. Of course without a disc in the drive, the motor shouldn't be spinning at all — as you know.
Start your Powerbook up from a cold shutdown while holding the mouse button down. Keep holding it; if there's a disc in the drive, it should be ejected before the computer starts up. If that yields no results, try (very gently) inserting a disc into the drive. If it inserts normally, you were right: the drive is empty. It shouldn't be spinning, and I don't know why it is.
If the disc runs into something and won't go in, don't push it: there's already a disc in the drive, and now the problem becomes how to get it out. I'm betting there is indeed a disc in there that you've forgotten about, and that isn't being ejected. Failure to eject a disc using any of the standard methods suggests a mechanical failure of the drive, which will need to be replaced if it can't be persuaded to behave.
The disc, if there's one in there, can be manually recovered in the course of replacing the drive — a fairly simple do-it-yourself job for anyone who isn't all thumbs and can follow directions.

  • Optical DVD drive ejects any inserted disc and does not work!

I can not read or write certain DVDs in my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro since upgrading to Mountain Lion.
I insert an empty DVD-R (Verbatim) and it is being ejected. I insert a recorded DVD-R (Verbatim) and it is being ejected.
I have tried a commercial Video DVD - (Sony) and that one actually did work ... so I am pretty clueless - I can not write any DVD right now.
In the forum I have found many posts regarding this issue under Lion already.
However, my drive used to work fine under Lion and I was able to watch / record DVDs etc.
Now, it is no longer working and I can not use it. Does anyone know how to solve this?
So far I have found the following hints (which did not work for me):
ALL OF THESE THINGS DID NOT WORK:
    1) Reset the PRAM (https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379)
    2) Uninstall all virtual machines (Virtual Box, etc.)
    3) SMC Reset (https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964)
some people talk about it being an issue with the 64 bit kernel and that you should try to reboot into 32bit (holding down 32 on startup)
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3770
others blame it on the UDF format (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3413998)
There are too many articles in the forums about this - more to make this a random issue.
The most disturbing thing to me is that multiple of the people in these threads contacted Apple and in the end where told, it's probably a bug... now why is this - obviously critical bug - not being resolved, yet ?

the list could probably be continued, but I'll leave it at this

I also had the same problem shortly after upgrading. My optical DVD drive ejects any disk I put in. This started about 2 months ago.
I just got back from the Apple store, after setting up an appointment, and they told me that my life is horrible because my MacBook Pro is no longer under warranty as of 32 days ago. This is really BS.
However just like any other company that treats me with poor customer service I just take my future business elsewhere and make sure not to recommend them to any friends and family - as well as tell them about my horrid experience.

  • G50-70: empty DVD-drive clicking and freezing other drives for about 30 seconds all the time

Hello board. Big problem. Seem to be the only one having this after searching the board:
Brand new G50-70: When using OS from the SSD or using OS from the SSD and doing things with a USB-drive, the empty internal DVD-drive making clicking sound and sometimes freezing SSD read/write operation for about 30 seconds but all the time freezing USB-storage read/write operation for about 30 seconds.
When freezing there's always clicking. But when clicking there's not always freezing except when using USB-storage.
    OS is Win81-64.
An example scenario: connect USB stick, open terminal, type diskpart, dvd-drive clicks and freezes opening of diskpart for about 30 seconds, then the same may or may not happen when entering commands like clear the stick and format the stick.
Any clues, why I have this issue? Thank you very much for reading.

    hi georg43,
it's possible that there's a software running on startup that's accessing the ODD when the machine is being used (especially if the ODD LED blinks when it's being accessed)..
To check, you can perform a clean boot to temporarily disable apps & services running on startup. If the machine functions properly on a clean boot, you will need to enable the startup services/programs that you have disabled in groups of two or three (trial and error) to find the culprit. You can start by enabling the lenovo services and apps first followed by the Intel ones and observe.
In addition, you can also try to disable the DVD-drive under device manager and observe.

  • DVD Drive Ejects on Bootup

I have a PowerBook Pismo (Firewire and bronze keyboard). OS X 10.3.9 with all the latest secutity upgrades.
When the machine starts up, the DVD drive ejects whether or not there is a disk in it.
This makes it difficult to boot from the install CD to run Disk Utility.
Has anyone had this problem? Are ther any know fixes

    Sy B,
Disconnect all USB devices including a USB mouse, then restart...see if the drive tray still pops open. Some known troublemakers are Adesso Tru-Form keyboard, Griffin iMate USB/ADB adapter, Keyspan Twin serial, and possibly others.
Test each device individually, then see if updated software is available.

Open Terminal and type or paste:  drutil eject and press enter, quit.
Might just be a bad DVD or it could contain a different form of copy protection that the Mac doesn't understand yet. Use a older DVD's and try them out, if you still have the same problem then you can try as much as you can of the fix list here or take your machine in for service.

  • DVD-R Drive ejects blank discs.

  • Disk drive continues to eject digital dvd copy.

I recently puchased blu-ray with digital copy combo.  I tried to load digital copy to redeem but disk drive continues to eject digital dvd without reading it and no dialogue box.  How do I fix to redeem movie?

If disk drive rejects ONLY that disk, then you have a compatibility issue with that disk or that generation of disks. What about other optical disks, CDs or DVDs? Do they behave OK? If a superdrive, test recording a CD or DVD using a rw disk. If all is OK, the answer is simple: that very disk is not compatible with that generation of optical drives.
that generation of optical drives cannot—for sure—run blu-ray disks.

  • Occasionally system hangs during eject of DVD-drive

I have an irritating problem where I cannot get rid off (yet).
When I am burning cd on nero (latest version) the system starts to hang when the DVD-drive is ejecting the CD -> I have to restart the comp.
Same when I use DVD Decrypter, when I create an ISO file on the hard drive from DVD. It starts to hang when he ejects the DVD.
I started to play around with the automatic eject settings on the drive itself and in the programs and try to set it to "do not eject", but it does't work.
    Any hints/ideas?
    .

    Thanks for the input.
I did not do so much until now...(time)
But what I did is send an email to Nero tech support with all the information included from all there Info utilities, which should help answering some support questions. I can tell you that the support is probably just as "good" as MSI's support. It took them 4 days to send a non helpfull answer... and I had to remind them about the request as well.
I now have latest version of Nero (6.3.1.15) and the drivers from Mega 180 cd.
I assumed that the drivers from my Mega 180 cd were the same from the web (2004-2-17) and that the less helpfull drivers -mentioned in the link by you Normunds- were shipped together with bios 3.0. (I have standard 3.30). But maybe that isn't so...
Anyway Mishima, you have the drivers from the web right (ITB)? And you have let's say half my problem..hmmm
Probably I will try out the following, and if the first of them doesn't help I take the next point and so on:
    * Install NEC 2500 latest firmware 1.07
    * Install the drivers from the web -ITB- (2004-2-17)
    * Install the drivers nVidia nForce 4.24 WHQL
Does anyone have experience with nVidia nForce 4.24 WHQL drivers ??

  • Optical drive constantly making ejecting sounds when drive is empty

the disc drive on my iMac randomly tries to eject a disc for a minute or more at a time when the drive is empty....any ideas why this is??

Hmmm, I think I'd try this...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. (Thinking maybe iTunes helper here).
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
