Cd drive not accepting cd's

my imac cd drive will take my cd and then 3-4 seconds later eject it with out ever loading it. is there some way i can fix this other than replacing it?

Welcome to Apple Discussions Andrew.
There are several reasons for a disk to be rejected.
1. The disk is dirty & cannot be read. Clean it.
2. The disk is scratched.
3. The disk is unbalanced. You should hear a vibration noise if this is the case. I've had disks that my MBPro could not read but my eMac could and some that only an external cd player could read.
4. The read heads are dirty. They can be cleaned - with extreme care!
If, after checking all these, all disks inserted get rejected, including the original installation disks then there is likely to be a fault with the drive. It might need to be replaced.

  • Hard Drive not accepting disc

Recently I’ve had a problem with not being able to put a disc into my internal drive. It just won’t accept it and spits it right back out.
I cannot clear the drive via my external keyboard’s eject button and only every once in a while via the laptop’s own eject button.
It seems to me that the hard drive might be dying but I do have hope that there is some command or physical something I might do to keep it alive. Does anyone have an idea for me?
I currently have the computer out of sight with an external monitor, trackball & keyboard attached to it.

    Mr. Kilo,
Does your CD drive act this way with all disks that are inserted? I know when I have an older, kinda beat up, disk, the PB has a hard time reading it, and sometimes it just refuses. But if you are having problems with all disks, there may be something wrong with the drive, is it under AppleCare?
Since you are using external everything on your PB, are you leaving it closed when you use it? I know keeping the PB closed can build up heat and can affect the internal components performance. Sometimes when I forget to open mine while connected to a display and keyboard it gets fairly warm.
There are several ways to eject a disk that in the drive. One you didn't mention is to hit the <apple> and <E> keys. Hope this helps.

  • Help Please: External Hard Drive not accepting files from Macbook

    My Desktop is a PC.
    My laptop is a Macbook.
My External Hard drive is a Belkin High Speed USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure Kit.
I am new to the Mac.
The Macbook recognises the External Hard Drive when plugged into a USB port. No problem.
I can drag any file from the external hard drive into the mac. No problem.
But I cannot drag any file from the Mac back into the External Hard Drive. (Jpegs, PSD, Doc etc-no file is accepted)
When I drag the file from the Mac to the External Hard Drive I get this message:
"The item “filename“ cannot be moved because “folder(external drive)” cannot be modified.
I did a get-info on the external drive and got this information-
    'Format: Windows NT Filesystem
Ownership and Permissions: you can only read'
It defeats the purpose of my working on my laptop if i cannot bring the files back 'home' to the Hard Drive-What can I do to be able to bring files back into the external hard drive? Can someone please advise me?
I look forward to hear from you.

if these macbooks are dual core(?) supporting mac and
windows is there not a way for me to work on a
file, save the file in windows and then drag it into
    the external hard drive?
    i guess not?
    Not really.
On a related note and as an alternative, someone posted a way that I didn't think about which may get around having to do all that:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=630540&tstart=45
i guess i'll have to go the partition route. all my
important files are on the external hard drive-who
can i trust to do this and how much can i expect to
    pay for it?
I think I would try the above networking route first before playing around with the partition on the external.
I think it should work so long as the external drive on the PC is shared.

  • Dvd drive not accepting dvd

DVDS not being acepted although cd's are fine?
    any suggestions?

An update for anyone reading this with a similar problem...
I started having issues with my display directly after the Super drive issue, and found out that my iMac had a faulty Motherboard, and had to be replaced. Luckily it was covered by apple under an iMac extended warranty program. If you are experiencing these symptoms it could be a sign of something bigger going bad, and you may want to check out the extension program page. you can find it in the general iMac support page on the bottom right side. Hope this helps - Andy

  • CD Drive not Accepting Discs

    Hello,
My iBook has suddenly stopped accepting CDs. Whenever I try to insert a disc, it makes a horrible crunching sound and the disc gets stuck about 3 quarters in. Occasionally, it gets almost completely in, but then won't eject and I have to restart the computer.
There doesen't appear to be a disc stuck inside in the drive.
The iBook is about 3 months old, but I can't seem to find the reciept or warrenty, so would hate to have to take it to get repair as I am guessing it would cost lots of money!
Any advice, or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Most Apple resellers in my area are pretty accomodating. I would take it back and see what they say. If you bought it at an apple store they can probably look it up on their database. I would register with apple right away and then phone their tech support line.

  • Drive not accepting discs readily

I recently went to put a disc in my macbook's drive (rev 1). I was suprised by finding what i though to be a disc in the drive ... but after further inspection, the drive was empty, I had to almost force the disc in, it no longer glides in. This MacBook is a month out of warranty. It has had almost every part changed on it under warranty since I got it... any suggestions what to do. The drive is reading discs, but I am rather disappointed with it's performance... I have always wanted a DVD burner. If I cannot simply fix it, is it possible to install any ATAPI burner I want or are there certain limitations?
    Morgan

Even if you can find a firmware update or alternative firmware to install in your drive, it isn't going to affect a physical obstruction to inserting a disc. You have a hardware failure, and replacing your drive is the thing to do.

  • Ibook CD drive not accepting and CD

Lately, whenever I put a CD in the drive, it waits a moment then spits it back out. As such, I'm unable to listen to a CD, watch a DVD or burn a CD. Is there anything I can try before taking it to a technician as a hardware problem?
Might this be something an amateur can fix?
    Thanks

  • MOVED: SATA RAID problems with 890GXM-G65 - Driver not accepted by win7 x64

This topic has been moved to Windows 64bit.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=139814.0

when I attempted installation I have been unplugging the current boot drive.  The first screen I am given after selecting the us / english / keyboard stuff and clicking the "install now" is the screen asking for drivers.
I know that windows must be recognizing the raid drives because I could continue installation but only if I use the 32 bit drivers and corresponding os version.

  • Encrypted drive will not accept password when re-mounting via Disk Utility

I have used the 'whole disk encryption' on one of my external HDDs.  Sometimes i eject the drive when i don't need it because it's in a 4bay housing along with 3 other drives.  I do this because OSX wakes up all my drives even for mundane tasks like safari browsing or even looking for a dictionary definition. But anyway, my problem is if i want to re-mount that encrypted drive from disk utility (left mouse click on greyed out drive and re-mount) it does not accept my password.  I get the little shake like i typed it in incorrectly.  Anyway, i tried it like a dozen times and received a dozen shakes of negativity.
If i swith off the drive unit and swith back on again the password is accepted just fine..
Can anyone else test this so i can mark it up as a Lion bug?  Or is there something else i need to try?
    Thanks

  • Hard Drive password not accepted in new W530

I am moving a hard drive from a W500 to a W530 laptop.  The hard drive has a password on it and it works fine on the W500. When I put the drive in the W530 laptop, it does not accept the password on boot up. If I move the drive back to the W500, it all works fine.  This is a 1TB drive, so I'm hoping I can still use it! Thanks for any help here.

Good afternoon and welcome to the community.
Since the HDD password is accepted when it's installed in the W500, why not pull off the password in BIOS there, reinstall the drive into the W530 and then set the password in the W530's BIOS?
    Regards.

  • HFS File system with case sensitive is not accepted to install creative cloud? Is there any other way but install the whole MacOS again after formatting the drive. I cannot belief that Adobe is so bad to it's Mac customers..

After many hours setting up OS10.10 from he scratch the last step should be installing m Adobe apps again.
trying this I always get the error message that creative cloud does not accept case sensitive file systems and I shall use another drive.
This means I have to set up the whole machine again after formatting without case sensitive but then having copy problems with my NAS?
I cannot belief that Adobe is really demanding this. If so this would show how urgent this market need alternatives and some more competition...
