Cd drive not working properly on iMac, cd drive not working properly on iMac
I am having issue with a CD drive that takes a long time to download a CD or sometimes will just eject the CD outright. I rarely use the CD drive so it's strange that I should be having this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be? And also, any suggestions to fix it. Thanks.
Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

I bought a used PowerMacPC G5. I can burn and read DVDs, but I can't read or burn CDs. The CDs are not even recognized. After the drive searches for a while, the CD is ejected without any error messages. The CDs work okay on my iMac.
I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11. According to the System profiler the CD/DVD drive is a "PioneerDVD-RWDVR-112D." When I compare the information under this heading, the only unusual difference from my iMac is that the G5 reads "Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)." My iMac reads "Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)."
Under the System Preferences the options are set to "Ask what to do" when a blank CD or DVD is inserted. Music CD set to open iTunes, Picture CD set to open iPhoto, Video DVD set to open DVD player.
Do you have any suggestions?

my imac dvd drive is not working anytime I put a cd or dvd in and it tries to load for like one mintue and then just ejects
My superdrive has always been sensitive to dirt and smudges. Memorex and other mfgs make a DVD cleaner disk that has little bristles on the DVD to brush the dust away. Vacuuming the slot can also clean out dust buildup. Also there are disk polishers that can repair scratched CDs and DVD if they become unreadable.

I'm getting a "Disk Not Ejected Properly Eject “FreeAgent GoFlex Drive” before disconnecting or turning it…" message at random times. I have seen other comments about this happening after the iMac wakes from sleep. However, this is happening to me throughout the day even when I am working on the iMac.
The iMac is up to date with OS X Version 10.9. I had recently switched from a 500GB to a 3TB Drive, both are Seagate. I have never had this issue prior to the switch.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I verified/repaired in the Utility Disk and a message popped up indicating the GoFlex looks "OK".No, I am not on the USB3 interface. I contacted Seagate and they indicated that there is no known issue with OS X 10.9. In my case, they are willing to send me a new Drive, since I just received the GoFlex on 12/06. Will post an update when I install the new one. Hopefully this will solve my issue.

accidentally removed from,sharing and permissions the admin user,and now i do not when i find the home icon at my computer i do not have permmission,and the mac does not works properly,lots of question mark at the dock ,please help
I'm going to assume that since you deleted your hard drive and all its files, you had a backup, yes? If the backup has an OS (bootable clone), then you can boot into it by holding down the option key when you start up you iMac and choose the backup drive. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper to copy the files back to your iMac.

I started on the installation CD OS X 10.4.2, I used Disk Utility
to partition the disk according to the document that you have proposed. unfortunately
I have not succeeded. When I partition the disk, even if I called it Macintosh HD, it
does not keep the name and it shows disk0s3 instead. I did an erase on disk.
When I mount the disk it tells me that I must repair. When I tried to repair, I got
the following message:
Volume check failed
The underflying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
I also had a message:
Invalid b-tree node size.
Note: The disc is new, but it has already been formatted on a computer Imac 27 inch 2011 OS X Lion.
I used a USB 2.0 to SATA cable to adjust the formatting.
What to do to fix it? -
I have a new iMac with osx 10.8.3 i can not get my hp laserjet m1522nf scanner to work. The printer works but when in scanner mode the scanner does not show up.I tried to install the newest hp driver for the printer but when I install the computer ca not find the printer.

Spotlight does not work with my Lacie d2 drive connected.
I, like many others, have been struggling with the case of Spotlight shannigans for some time since it stopped working smoothly on the release of 10.4.8, I think. Anyway no amount of privacy setting, re-indexing, SystemUI force quitting or crying seemed ti fix the problem. Then - in a trial and error experiment the likes of which I had never undertaken before - I found the culprit. Spotlight does not work when my Lacie d2 Extreme 200GB is connected. No matter if it is connected by USB, Firewire or Daisychained - as soon as the computer sees it is plugged in - Spotlight (and all other search functions) dies.
Thinking it was simply a case of fixing something on the drive, I updated the firmware, completely deleted and repaired the disk and thought it would start afresh. Unfortunately this was not the case - so now I have to decide between having Spotlight working, or having my external drive connected.
Does anyone have any ideas at all of what else I could try to do?Hi there - I've reformatted it twice, once as OSX Extended, and Once as OSX Extended Journalled. Neither really made much difference. As a quick work around, I managed to add it to the privacy list before the computer had a chance to index it - so far so good, but I can't search the drive. Better that than the alternative though! The only other weird thing was it did work straight out of the box with no problems for almost 3 years - it was just the move to the New iMac and an update or two that started the snafu.

Could you please help me with the installation of the reference external drive. Supplier gives instruction for Windows only. When I follow the window instruction on my iMac, the system does not recognize or see the drive. Thank you in advance.The problem is NOT the fact that it is a USB 3.0 drive, as USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. The problem is specific to Toshiba Canvio portable drives. They only work if you use a micro-USB2 cable instead of the included USB 3.0 cable. This problem does NOT affect other USB 3.0 portable drives (Seagate, Western Digital, etc.), and they work fine with USB 3.0 cables.
Once again, you need a micro-USB2 cable for the Toshiba to mount. -
My iMac does not see the new Toshiba external drive in Finder or Disk Utility. How can I get it to see the drive?
From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
Reset the NVRAM.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive is malfunctioning. -
IMac disk utility not reading any FAT32/NTFS related partitions/CD/flash drives
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to access my drives and later on install bootcamp and windows on my iMac. At moment I can only start the iMac in safe mode (long story, if interested check out iMac 27" (late 2009), freezing - List of solutions tried). Any steps taken so far to read and format other drives has been in Safe Mode.
Problems:
- any formats except Mac OS X extended gets greyed out in Disk Utility.
- Not able to read/mount flash drives, external drives or CD's with any other formats.
Solutions tried:
- Tried to format using OSX on current iMac, MBP and PC and no change or luck.
- Tried on other machines and it works great. So it's related to my iMac.
- Disk Utility try to Mount drive/partition - getting error "The disk "BOOTCAMP" could not be mounted"
- Installed Paragon NTFS but no difference.
- Disk Utility no disk error reported
Searched on internet and forums for a solution w/o any luck. Haven't found anyone with similar problems or I'm using wrong keywords. Haven't found any Knowledge Base about other formats is disabled in Safe Mode state so it can't be that either. Below is a picture that shows any other partitions than mac is greyed out.

New hard drive in iMac g5 2004 wont work
My 2004 iMac g5 started up with the dreaded flashing folder. In the past on my apple laptops when this happened I would replace the hard drive and it would work. I replaced the hard drive on my iMac and the blinking folder still flashes. The hard drive is completely blank. Is it because there is no os on the drive or is it the logic board? I can't get it to recognize the os disk, keyboard, or mouse. Help
That model will only work with SATA I&2 drives, not SATA 3. And if it's SATA 2, it needs to be jumpered down from 3 to 1.5 Gbit/s.
And of course as noonday says, you need to install anOS. But you won't be able to unless you take care of the above. The drive will simply not be seen in Disk Utility. -
FaceTime: I have a iPad, iPhone, iMac all on the same apple Id/account. Without changing id/email address can I use FaceTime between any 2 of my devices? It works from iPad to iPhone but not the other way??? I would like talk/see my kids if am away.

i had a power mac g4 into which i put 3, 320 gb PATA hard drives in a raid slice config so that it worked as one drive needless to sat that i lost the g4 to a surge but the drives are good. now i have an imac, how can i recover the info off those drives. can i put the drives in external cases and plug them all in, will the imac see them as a raid slice then help please
Before you have another accident:
Buy a UPS of good quality and sufficient to your needs.
I would have to assume that the drives were connected to a PCI PATA card, hopefully. Otherwise, well RAID and having drives on the same bus (master and slave).
And no backup, none at all...
Get your hands on a G4.
Data Rescue 3 from Prosoft maybe.
If they were SATA and running on PCI SATA controller, very popular and common really in G4s, more options would be open. -
LR 5.6 on Mac desktop all of a sudden will not read any card from any reader but will work on my laptop. I can work on previous images but not import new ones. Even if I create a catalog on laptop and import to my desktop on a thumb drive, the images are only accessible as long as the thumb drive is inserted.
Sounds like you may need to repair the Disk Permissions on your drive where your images are stored.

Script to connect and rename a drive works on Windows 8.1 but not Windows 7
I have a script to map a drive to a WebDAV share and the staff wanted it so the Drive shows up as Onedrive and not \\http......etc So I added entries to the script
to rename the drive to that. It seems to run and work perfectly on Windows 8.1 but on Win 7 it maps the drive but the rename part doesn't work. Even running the rename section manually in a separate script on Windows 7 does nothing. Is there a different rename
command for VB for a Win 7 OS?
