CD Drive recognizing all the CDs as blank discs

I Have an intel Mac 21.5" running OS x lion 10.7.5 . Recently my mac isn't recognizing any of the discs . Sometimes it pops out saying that "You have inserted a blank disc" and sometimes it simply ejects the disc . And I know that there is no problem with my discs . Is there any solution for this problem .
Thanks in advance !!

I am having a similar issue.  Any luck on finding a solution?

Very rarely, but nothing in life is guaranteed (except death and taxes)! If you purchased RAM from a reputable source like Crucial or OWC it will carry a lifetime warranty.

  • Hi all, when I open a New Tab pg all the images are blank - I've tried clicking on the blank images, & dragging a link from the Bookmarks, without success!

I want to achieve at least one of two things: either set New Tabs to open with Google automatically; or at least, to have Google pinned to the New Tab page. (Google is my home page.) When a new page opens, all the images are blank. I've read through the Help pages & tried various things. I've tried dragging Google from the Bookmarks to the New Tab, but this only opens Google. I've tried clicking on the blank images, but nothing happens. I've toggled the blank images off for now, so at least I don't need to look at them. I am doing a university course online, so efficiency is really important to me! Those extra clicks really add up & distract!... Thanks in advance :)

For a while now my computer has been saying " Start up disk is nearly full", however I don't have a lot of stuff saved on the computer I moved a lot to a flash drive, and all the other stuff are songs and recently saved essays for school. I have and frequently empty my trash can. I have researched this before and i see a lot of things that say get a external hard drive, but before I go and purchase one I want to make sure there is no other, simpler way, to solve this problem. Help Please.

You need an external drive so you can free up disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

How can I completely wipe the hard drive with out the Mac OS X disc? I don't need any of the info on the computer.

You can't unless you have a bootable system on an external drive you can use. Otherwise, you need either the original disc that came with your computer or a retail copy of Snow Leopard DVD. The latter contains 10.6.3, so your model must be capable of booting from that or an earlier version of OS X.
You can purchase replacement discs from Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.

  • IPhoto is not recognizing all the photos on an external drive

I used Migration Assistant to transfer accounts and data (with the exception of photos and music from one user) from a 320 gb hard drive (from a broken PPC iMac running Tiger 10.4.11) to a 160 gb Intel iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. When I opened iPhoto 6.0.6, it prompted me to locate an iPhoto library, so I pointed to the iPhoto Library folder on the old hard drive (Users/Name/Pictures/iPhoto Library).
Everything seems fine except that about half the newest images from 2011 and all the images from 2012 are missing. The folders appear on the left side, but they are simply missing the rolls and images. The images do appear, however, in the Originals and Data folders on the old hard drive in the corresponding 2011 and 2012 folders. I can view the images if I double click them.
I tried manually dragging one of the "missing" rolls from the Originals folder on the old hard drive to the iPhoto application, but it did not work. I got the green "+" sign, and it attempted to import the folder as usual, but then a message popped up that read, "Unreadable Files: 1 The following file could not be imported. (The file is in the iPhoto Library folder.)."
    Please advise.
    Thank you in advance.

I'm no sure I understand this:
I used Migration Assistant to transfer accounts and data (with the exception of photos and music from one user) from a 320 gb hard drive (from a broken PPC iMac running Tiger 10.4.11) to a 160 gb Intel iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
So you moved the accounts and data from the old machine to a newer one.
So, why then did you point iPhoto at the old machine?
so I pointed to the iPhoto Library folder on the old hard drive (Users/Name/Pictures/iPhoto Library).
    Or do I misunderstand you?
This is a symptom of a corrupted Library:
The folders appear on the left side, but they are simply missing the rolls and images. The images do appear, however, in the Originals and Data folders on the old hard drive in the corresponding 2011 and 2012 folders. I can view the images if I double click them.
Assuming you a: copied the Library to a new location and b: it worked fine in the previous lication, then I would guess the copy went wrong. Re-do it, manually, don't use Migration Assisstant.
If you didn't move the Library then
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • I backed up my itunes files to disk on my cpu and then I bought a new computer when I went to transfer the files I found that all the disks were blank.  Is there anything I can do now

I backed up my files on dvds before buying a new computer.  When I went to tranfer teh files onto my new cpu the dvds were blank.  Is there anything I can do to get my files back.  Oh and I live in Canada.............

It would probably work if the thumb drive was still connected when you tried to play the song.
Go to iTunes preferences Advanced tab.  There is a checkbox for Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.  If that checkbox is not checked, iTunes adds songs to your library but links to the song file from where it was added (which would be on the thumb drive).  When you disconnect the thumb drive, iTunes says "the original file cannot be located."
If this is the reason for your problem, check that checkbox.  You may also want to check the other checkbox for Keep iTunes Media folder organized, if it's not checked already.
With the thumb drive NOT connected, remove all of the songs you recently added from the iTunes library.  Then, connect the thumb drive and add the songs again, like you did before.  This time, iTunes will make of copy of the song files and put them in the iTunes Media folder.

  • Importing from external hard-drive without all the clutter

greetings...i need to import my saved iphoto library from my external hard-drive back to my new computer's iphoto library...how can i best do this without bringing along all the clutter (copies or originals i don't want)...i dropped my entire saved library into my computer's library but ended up with thousands of versions i do not want (i just want the versions i last had-complete with typed information or labeling)...certainly one doesnt' have to go through the whole imported library and delete all the copies and originals they no longer want (that would take a week!)
    thanks,
here's what i see on my external hard-drive:
    (what should i drag over?)
    AlbumData.xml
    Data (Folder)
    Dir.data
    iPhoto.ipspot
    iPhotoLock.data
    iPod Photo Cache (Folder)
    Library.data
    Library.iPhoto
    Library6.iPhoto
    Modified (Folder)
    Originals (Folder)
    Thumb32Segment.data
    Thumb64Segment.data
    ThumbJPGSegment.data

    (what should i drag over?)
All of it, as a unit.
To restore an iPhoto Library drag the iPhoto Library Folder to the Pictures Folder and start iPhoto. There's no importing involved.
All of the "clutter" is necessary for running iPhoto. If you don't want it, use a different app.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss

  • I updated FCPX to 10.9 after I had updated my os to 10.9.1. And the result is that FCPx can no longer read LaCie external hard drive where all the projects and events are stored. The program simply crashes every time I try to read anything from the LaCie.

Could anyone tell me what to do to solve the problem. I updated FCPX to 10.9 and the program keeps on crash every time I try to read files stored in my LaCie hard drive. And the program also keeps on crash every time I try to import files from my SDXC cards.

I have solved the problem. Once the update is done, you need to launch FCPX, and go to File, then "update all events and projects". It will solve the problem and everything works fine.

  • How do I fix my internal hard drive stalling all the time??

    Hello,
I have a few hard drives attached to my G5.
2 external and one additional internal.
My issue is with my internal drive. It's a 750 GB drive.
if ever I return to my computer after being away for more than 15 minutes, every time I try to access something on that drive...meaning, I cause it to wake up. It stalls and I get the spinning beach ball forever. till most time I have to force shut down my computer.
So if I happen to be working in any softwares I use and try to open a file in that software that is on that drive ....it stalls. If i'm in my finder and happen to have a window open, 3-4 folders deep into that drive. when I click on a file in that window ....it stalls.
the only time it doesn't, is if I'm in finder and close all the windows and THEN click on that internal hard drives icon then it opens normally.
So it's ONLY when I try to wake the drive up does it stall. never have any issues when I'm just working away normally.
this is my second drive and had something like this going on with the previous drive too. when I was running. OS X 10.2-10.4
so I'm pretty sure it's not the drives that are faulty
Is this a known issue? are there any fixes??
if anyone can help that would be great thank you

Not a solution, but something to try.
In the Energy Saver preference window, do you have the "Put the hard disk....possible." checked or unchecked?
Try it the opposite of what you have selected now.
Also, do you have the same problem if the energy saver is moved to Never?

  • Usb3 drive disconnecting all the time at a usb 3 port on my macbook pro

i just bought the new macbook pro 13 inch and i was into some point tricked because the salesman from apple assured me that the laptop would be shipped with mountain lion and i could do the upgrade for free for maverick. so when i recieved the computer i found out that it actually came with maverick intalled and after talking to an apple customer support he said i could not go back to mountain lion. so most of my software are damaged according to the new system and it simply doesnt let me open many apps i just installed.
so now i have another bigger problem. everythime i connect a usb 3 HD into my new macbook, the HD gets disconnected. i used already 3 diferent drives and tried at least 3 diferent cables but the problem persists. Note that it never happenned with a usb2 port. is anyone having the same problem?
at this point i am pretty upset with the company alltogether. i had purchased at least 30 macs and i never had any sort of problems till now.

I just got a new IMAC and experienced the same issue with a RAID 10 array with 4 drives spontaneously disconnecting in the middle of a data transfer with the message "you should eject disk properly, etc. etc." message.
As many others I tried all the obvious solutions. Different cables, different drives, etc. Then I read something about radio wave interference from wireless keyboards. Well, I don't have wireless keyboards or mice (don't like them) but still, it stuck in the back of my mind.
I did find that a USB 2.0 cable with noise suppression dongles at each end worked just fine, if a bit slowly. Anyway, I found an old set of ferrite couplings that were made for video cables back in the day and placed one set at each end of the USB 3 cable. I then moved my RAID array as far from the computer as possible and plugged it all back in. The problem has not reoccurred even with the transfer of very large folders of files from a networked PC RAID.
Just a thought but it seems to have worked for me although the fact that this sort of thing is necessary does not speak well for Apple.

  • Copying keyworded PSDs across drives, will all the metadata be transferred?

    Hi there
I'm copying keyworded PSD files off an external firewire drive onto a desktop hard drive.
Since I spent a long time keywording and getting the copyright data sorted on them, will this be transferred over as well, or would I have to do it again?
    Many thanks!

ok turns out it did, i had to re open bridge
Keywords and metadata are saved in the file itself and when once saved to
that file they should stay present no matter how you copy your files.
Bridge needs to cache files first before showing all the info and previews.
However this should be started automatically after adding files to a folder
you have Bridge pointed to. If not use the purge cache for folder option
(Menu tools/cache/purge cache for folder option). Also the shortcut F5 (menu
View/refresh) might do the trick sometimes when bridge refuses to cache new
    files.
If this problem persists you might consider to refresh the preferences for
Bridge (hold down option key while restarting Bridge).

  • Hard drive runs all the time after software update

After a software update from Apple a couple of weeks ago, for some reason the hard drive now runs noisily and continuously ever since. It's never run that way in the 3 years I've had the machine. It would run briefly sometimes while using some websites, but it would always stop and quiet down once the site was done. Anybody else had this happen? Thanks - L Agnew.

    Hi,
Make sure you have enough available drive space for updates. Right click your MacintoshHD icon and then click Get Info. In the Get Info window, where it says: General click the black arrow so it faces down. You will see Capacity and Available. Watch that the available drive space never falls below 15% of the total drive. (Some say 10%, but that's pushing it). Not enough drive space will cause apps to crash and freeze, including browsers.
If drive space is the issue, you need to copy files to external source. Don't forget to delete the originals on the hard disk.
If drive space isn't an issue try deleting this file. com.apple.softwareupdate.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Launch Software Update either from the Apple Menu or the System Preferences/Software Update pane.
