CD & DVD Blanks do not mount for burn in OSX 10.6.6

This is an issue with 10.6.6 or possible earlier update. I can mount and burn CD's and DVD's using 10.6.0. I have a disk recovery firewire external harddrive that when I use for diagnosis and repair. This has 10.6.0 as its system. When booting from this system I have full mount and burn functionality. Reboot to the system on my iMac results in the problem below
I am unable to burn CD'd and DVD's. I insert the disk, it goes in and remains in but then - Nothing. My prefs are set to Ask what to do, but none of the pref options have any impact. I can then eject the disk using the eject button. Disk Utility and System Profiler shows the Optical drive as
Media:
Type: CD-R
Blank: Yes
Erasable: No
Overwritable: Yes
Appendable: Yes
Write Speeds: 8x, 16x, 24x
If I have a CD-R in the disk- so the drive is clearly identifying a blank.
Inserting a DVD+R returns
Type: DVD+R
ID: RICOHJPN R02
Blank: Yes
Erasable: No
Overwritable: Yes
Appendable: Yes
Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x
The optical drive is recognising the disk.
But the burn function is not booting.
This is independent of brand of disk. It loaded and burnt disks successfully previously and seems to be related to an OS update. I do this so rarely that I cant really date the start.
I am able to insert and read any type of burnt or recorded disks, CD's, DVD's and mount them.
Have repaired permissions and trashed anything that looks like a CD pref. Have the same problem on my wife's side so it looks like it is not limited to my user account but is a a high level system issue.

Funny, since the upgrade from 10.6.5. to 10.6.6. I too have problems with a formerly more or less perfect system.
Not my finder is freezing but I cannot read or write CD-RWs anymore and I've just discovered a data DVD which the MacMini will not read.
This was NOT the case before the update and it is not a problem with the CD's or DVD's as they can be read via an external drive.
What the **** have you done, Apple, to screw up my computer hardware through a software update?! Huh!?!?!?! FIX IT!!
(Really, I'm done with System upgrades. From now on, if the system runs well, no updates anymore. Not even if it's an "important security upgrade". Screw it. I'm speechless.

  • Value BLANK/SPACE not valid for cost element "Fund"

    Hi!
    We use funds management in our solution. It has worked fine in development but when doing the module tests we get the following error when creating a shopping cart:
    Value BLANK/SPACE not valid for cost element "Fund"
    When creating a PR in backend we do not get an error. So it should not be a problem in funds management.
    Everything works fine when using BBPSC01 (central)
    Any ideas?
    Sincerely

  • Cd not mounting for mac version of nwn

    I purchased the mac version of Neverwinter nights and attempted to install it on my 10.4 macbook. If i put in the disc1 it will just spin up and down, but will not mount. This continues for several minutes before eventually spitting it out. If I put in disc 2 it mounts fine. Here's the weird part, I put it in my friends macbook to see if it was the disc, and it mounted fine. Any thoughts?

    I was lucky enough to get someone from India who knew to tell me to downloads the CC desktop installer although it doesn't have desktop in the wording.  Where 3 others before him gave up and virtually acted as if the connection was lost  and they were gone one even looked at the problem and wouldn't work on it.
    Another   Iwish I could remember his name, not an American,  listened walked me through uninstalling acrobat for windows and took me at my word that there is a download, actually 2 on the down load page, 11.3or 03 the newest one and helped me install it.  Now i don't have the problem however he seemed to think all creative cloud programs were universal and would work on any platform.  I don't think he knew that unless I bought microsoft Office for mac
    I was not going to save or download into a word file.  He was alot of help however when others didn't know a MAC from a Window.

  • ABCHD DVD - FCPX does not start to burn disc

    when in FCPX 10.1 exporting out of timeline a film as blu-ray on a AVCHD DVD, when rendering is completed, it says "load media". When putting a DVD into the slot, after a few secondes DVD comes out again saying load media. Does anybody know why?

    Download and install the free VLC Player from  http://www.videolan.org/   as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Can not mount smb share on osx 10.4.6

    I have a linux suse 10 machine and I would like to mount files that are on my osx 10.4.6 machine. The KDE gui to do this does not work at all so I went to the command line and it turns out that os x is not asking for the password until after the timeout. From the command line I can still get the job done but why is os x not asking for the password until after the timeout? Below is the relevant command sequence.In this case the password is no the command line, but it still waits for the timeout before connecting.
    linux:/home/dave # smbclient //192.168.0.4/Dave -U Dave%mypassword
    timeout connecting to 192.168.0.4:445
    Domain=[GANDALF] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.10]
    You can see the timeout message and then the successful connection. The same thing happens when I try to mount the smb file system.
    Any thoughts? I think this is a bug

    At home I am running Suse 9.3 and have no trouble connecting to my powerbook (10.4.6). I do use the KDE "explorer" program (Konqueror) and just type in (in the address bar):
    smb://IPADDRESS/SHARENAME
    It takes a few seconds but a windows pops up asking for user name and password. A few more seconds and I'm in.
    Are both machines on a domain or a workgroup? I just have a 2 computer workgroup called "Home" (creative, I know). In the Yast control center in Suse I configured the Samba client to be blank in the "Membership" box. Maybe try changing that around (make it blank or if it is blank, enter the workgroup name).
    If this doesn't help, you may want to try posting this question in a Linux forum, specifically Suse 10.0 if possible. There are definitely a lot of variations b/t distributions, even b/t different versions of the same distro.

  • ACL is not enabled for this user  OSX 10.5

    I am running OS X 10.5 on a Mini Mac.
    It was a clean install, everything went smoothly except for configuring the mail server.
    I created my users as I normally do using Workgroup manager.
    However 2 out of 3 of users I created can not log into the IMAP server.
    You get the error message ACL is not enabled for this user.
    What is the ACL and how do I enable it ?

  • Blank CDs not recognized by burning programs [SOLVED]

    EDIT: By some divine intervention, the computer just started recognizing my blank CDs, I have no idea why it just started working, but it did!
    Hi all, got a new laptop recently (Dell Vostro 1320) but burning programs don't let me choose a "destination drive", as if one doesn't exist. However, if I insert an acutal DVD, vlc-player will run it just fine. If I insert a blank disk, under gnome's "places" an option for Blank CD shows up, but when I click it, nothing seems to happen. How can I make burning programs recognize the existence of my drive? perhaps its not pointed in the right direction? I have brasero and graveman.
    Here is my policy file for HAL
    <config version="0.1">
    <match user="tom">
      <return result="yes"/>
    </match>
    </config>
    I also have my CD/DVD lines commented out in /etc/fstab
    #/dev/sr0               /media/cdrom  iso9660  ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/cdrom             /media/cd   udf    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/dvd               /media/dvd  auto    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/fd0               /media/fl   auto    user,noauto             0      0
    NOTE: I've tried playing around with fstab, commenting, uncommenting, but to no level of success. Please let me know if you need me to post more outputs.
    I will try to post some more information about my burning program preferences.
    Thanks for your help, and hopefully, it can be resolved!

    fstab wont help you at all - that's for reading, not writing.
    I know zip about brasero et al, but cdrecord/wodim should be ok to use.
    Most probably, your cd will be /dev/sr0 and to burn an iso-image you do something like this:
    cdrecord -v driveropts=burnfree dev=/dev/sr0 -dao -eject -data /name/of/iso/image
    I hope you realize that cd/dvd-burning is mostly a matter of transferring a whole image, you can't really use it as a 'normal' filesystem (at least as far as writing is concerned).
    I guess someone will jump down my throat and tell me it is possible - and it is ... though not in the usual way of using a filesystem ...

  • DVD player does not play  my burned DVD

    Hi all
    I burned an imovie onto DVD and my Panasonic 5 disk console doesn't read it. It's about 5 years old. I was told that some older DVD players can't read the newer DVD-Rs? What to do?
    How can I bypass this or do I need to buy a new player?
    Thanks
    web dude

    Does the DVD play in other players or on other computers?
    Try the following basic trouble shooting steps that are mentioned on many posts.
    Save as a disk image
    Burn disk image using Disk Utility at a slower speed (2x or 4x)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
    Use DVD-R (not +/-RW or +R)
    Use Maxcell or Verbatim disks

  • Backed up data dvd-rw will not mount on my desktop?

    a few months ago, i used retrospect to backup files onto five verbatim dvd-rw disks. the backups went fine and after they each were done i checked them to make sure that the backup was successful (which in all cases it was). recently i wanted to update those backups. but when i put each disc into my superdrive only one of the five disks mounted. the other four didn't show up on the desktop. because one of the disks worked i'm really at a loss as to why the other four didn't. is there any way to force a disk like this to mount so that i can erase and reformat it? i beginning to think that dvd-rw technology needs resuscitation. any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I can try a lot of things, and waste a lot of money in the process. I would like to know if anyone has experiences of a way to get my photos out of a SD card that won't mount to the desktop.
    BTW- TopTenReviews looks like a scam to me. Its hard to believe that one program out of ten is the best at everything, and they just happen to be able to sell it to you???

  • External MAC dvd device will not mount

    Worked fine yesterday.   Today doesn't show up.   I cant eject the dvd thats in it - no button on it and the eject key is grayed out.
    Doesn't show up in Disk Utlities etc.  Its like it isn't there.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Chris

    Have you rebooted the computer?
    Does the drive show in About this Mac>More Info>System Report under USB (assuming USB connection)
    Maybe this to eject
    If you can't eject a CD or DVD or open the drive tray

  • Rendering a blank page not working for multiple xdp's in assembler

    Hi,
    we are trying to append different .xdp's witht he assembler service to get the resultant .pdf
    Main xdp :docin.xdp
    2nd .xdp : doci2n.xdp
    there are multiple xdp's that would be combined together with the ddx,
    the main xdp (pdf from the main .xdp) should always end with an even page, i have a blank page that fires up when the pdf ends with an odd number , when tested just the main xdp with the assembler service it works fine (it ends with even page)
    but when other xdp's are sent with the main xdp in the assembler, the assembler prints the .pdf from the second .xdp on the even page (which is supposed to be blank- with the incorporated logic in the main .xdp), is there a way that the .pdf from main xdp (docin.xdp) can end with even pages and the .pdf from other .xdp(doci2n.xdp) can start on an odd page.
    <DDX xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/DDX/1.0/">
      <PDF result="result3.pdf">
        <XDP>
          <XDP source="docin.xdp"/>
          <XDPContent insertionPoint="header" source="Header.xdp"/>

          <XFAData source="data.xml"/>
        </XDP>
      </PDF>

    I have to correct what I just said. I don't POST to another

  • Rate SONY 820 UL/T DVD burner for burning iMovies-what's better?

    I have an iMac G5 with internal CD burner, but not DVD burner. I do have the iDVD and iMovie software--so I installed this external driver to burn iMovie projects and after hours of messing around with my blessed iMac G5 and mystified SONY support techs finally learned it won't burn iMovie or Quicktime movies with Mac software bundle it comes with (Roxio Toast Lite 6..) Should I send back driver and get something else, or stick with it and upgrade to Toast 7? I am frustrated since the Sony/Mac software bundle leads you to believe you CAN burn your videos.

    Hello Artcart,
    the main difference between iDVD and Toast is, that iDVD is primarily an authoring software (it authors the structure of the DVD with possibility of multiple menus, movies/slideshows) while Toast is a disc burning app ( with the possibility of encoding movies for DVD).
    If you look through the iDVD discussion board you'll find that most users adopt the "divide and conquer" method:
    1. Author the DVD in iDVD because it gives you more choices for menus etc.
    2. Create a disk image (a file that behaves like a DVD, but is stored on your HDD)
    3. Burn the image file to DVD with Toast (more reliable for burning)
    I should be able to select/drag my (NTSC formatted) iMovie project into Toast and the SONY drive will indeed burn a nice DVD for me?
    Absolutely. Toast does the encoding, but offers you only a very simple menu (start-up screen). if that is sufficient for you, you can do without iDVD.
    To add this: I've been using an external LaCie burner for the last 2 years to create DVDs for a living, and have had a very low failure rate .... no worries
    I am not sure what "menu" selection you mean--the "play" title menues offered in iDVD?
    Yep.
    hope this helps
    mish

  • Is DVD Creator good for burning MP4 video to dvd to view on TV

    Is DVD Creator by Aimersoft good for burning MP4 video to dvd to view on TV?

    I tried the trial and found the theme/menu option too simple to interest me, so I deleted it. I use iDVD to add some pizzazz to my movies and then either burn it with iDVD or Roxio Toast. As for burning mp4: you might need to check on that - as far as I know, movies need to be in an mpeg-2 format to be able to play on a regular DVD player - the apps I use automatically create the correct format.
