CD/DVD Drive dont work IMac since OSX 10.8.5

hi, since i had updated my IMac from Osx 10.7 to 10.8 the SuperDrive don´t work anymore!
if i put a Disc in over half away it get blocked by anything.
no sound no noise comes from the drive.
in toastit it say the drive is open.
what can i do to fix it?
i tried the standard fixes: reboot, reboot + mouse push, reboot+eject key, Superdrive eject by add to status menu, terminal command: drutil eject.

older superdrives were Hitachi mfg, new ones are Panasonic.  Since yours is new and panasonic, indications are it wont work thru the enclosure on your NEW macbook, rather as you state on your older Mac.
until you said it worked fine on the old machine, the logical conclusion is a dirty lens on the laser since it reads CDs fine but most DVD not, since the track is much smaller.
Considering a new superdrive is only $48 on ebay ,or $78 for a new superdrive, your frustration might be too much, and just grab a new superdrive.
Your detailed information indicates a firmware incompatibility of the panasonic superdrive thru an enclosure
This is the new superdrive, made by panasonic as you have in your enclosure:

of course thats a lot of trouble buying that AND an enclosure, easier still is just getting a Mac superdrive inside its working enclosure designed for use as such:

  • External DVD Drive not working with osx 10.8.5

Hi, I'm having issues with my MacBook Pro 15" 9,1 working with an external DVD drive.  I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have been troubleshooting this issue for a few weeks.  The optical drive itself is the original drive that came with the computer, but I have put it in an external enclosure to free up space inside the body of the MacBook Pro.  The drive seems to function fine with CDs (playing and ripping - haven't tried burning yet) but is extremely inconsistent/barely functional with DVD playback.  Only one DVD in my collection properly works - others bring up error messages in multiple programs (VLC, Wondershare, the native DVD application, etc.) and another continuously loops back to the main menu each time "Play Feature" is selected.  These are a variety of DVDs that range from obscure to commercial and old to new (the oldest and most obscure is the only one that works).  After deciding that it is not the programs, I replaced the enclosure.  I still had the same exact issues.  I reset PRAM - no solution there.  I created a new user on my computer, installed the same media players and had the same luck.  I then used the same external drive on my old MacBook Pro 15" (5,4 running OSX 10.6.8) to see if it would work there.  It worked perfectly (with the native DVD application).  What is going on here and how can I get my new computer to recognize the external DVDs reliably and consistently?

  • Replaced hard drive on my iMac running OSX 10.9.3 now CS4 Master Collection Not working. Receiving error message 150:30 - help.

I have had to replace the hard drive on my iMac running OSX 10.9.3 and reloaded my CS4 Master Collection from Time Machine. I am receiving error message 150:30 saying License has stopped working what should I do?

Unfortunately, you can't install Adobe applications by copying them from a backup, or using the Migration Assistant on a Mac. There are too many support files scattered throughout your drive which aren't moved to the correct location.
First, you'll have to use Adobe's Cleaner Tool to remove all of the stuff you copied:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then reinstall CS4 Master Collection from your original discs, or a backup of the downloaded files. If you don't have either, you can download Creative Suite from this link:

  • Dvd drive not working on iMac

Hi! DVD drive on my iMac is not reading any DVD or CD. It try to read then it ejects it. Can anyone help me?

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu.  In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to  your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility.  Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

  • CD/DVD Drive Not working on iMac using Snow Leopard

Can anyone help me with a possible solution as to why my CD/DVD Drive on my iMac (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) has suddenly stopped recognizing any inserted discs?
It makes a noise - as if it's trying to read them - but then ejects them! Although my iMac is quite old, the actual CD/DVD Drive was only replaced a couple of years ago!
I'd be grateful of any help, alternatively a rough idea of price for either replacing the drive (if it has gone to the great Apple Drive in the sky) or a plug-in removable drive? Thanks

Try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and PRAM OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
sometimes it helps. You can also try a cleaning disc or blowing some compressed air into the mechanism to get rid of any dust that may be affecting it. The bottom line is that the slot loading SuperDrive, mounted sideways and exposed to the heat generated inside an imac, just doesn't last long. You're better off with an external drive, LG makes good ones for less than $30 http://www.amazon.com/LG-GE24NU30-Super-Multi-External-DVD-Writer/dp/B007WLP0BY/ ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1413369637&sr=8-20&keywords=lg+super+multi+drive

  • External DVD drive not working with Lombard G3 333

I have an external DVD drive that worked when I had 10.4, but had to reformat HD and now only have 10.3.9, and now the DVD drive does not work with DVDs, it will work with CDs and CDR media, but not with DVD media. My Lombard did not come with DVD originally and I am using a PC Card (Macintosh PowerBook DVD-Video PC Card For PowerBook G3 Series) and it worked before with 10.4, but not with 10.3, any ideas? Also have tried with 9.x, no go either. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, would it be difficult to add a DVD logic board to my Lombard?
    Joey

    xamdu,
I am reading and replying to this post after first replying to your other post, so a few of my previous comments are redundant.
Regarding the FireWire(?) USB 2.0(?) DVD drive: It is possible Tiger supported your DVD drive but Panther does not. I would give PatchBurn for Panther a try:
    http://patchburn.de/download.html
If the above is unsuccessful, take a look at this workaround:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040330171655882
You can swap logic boards but it does require a lot of disassembly.
Since no version of OSX supports Apple DVD Player, I am assuming you have a third-party player like VLC installed to watch movies. If this is the case, the DVD Decoder PC card is not necessary. If booted to 9.x, you of course will need the decoder PC card but I did not know 9.x's Apple DVD Player supported external drives.

  • Dvd drive not worked properly

i have  hp pavilion dv4 series.my dvd drive not worked properly.for that purpose only i went 7 times in your service centre but they won't take action  till now .why u people do like this .i want explation and just change my  dvd drive that's all.

    tcrite,
Sounds like a bad drive...I would get a replacement. According to Accelerate Your Mac database, it should work without issue.
Just enter the model number of the drive and select your Powerbook G3 2000, and you will see four reports on this model.

  • My CD/DVD Drive Only Works When I Jam the CD/DVD in hard..?

My CD/DVD drive only works when I stuff the CD/DVD in the drive EXTRA hard. If I just try to put in with normal force (that at one time worked) it spins the disc around, makes a spinning noise, and then ejects it. I'm taking it to the Apple Store soon. What should I expect to be wrong and is it fixable? Please share details. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like the spring that loads the drive has gotten jammed by something. This can often happen if you use CDs with sticky labels, or do anything to label the discs directly. As a result of issues like these, I've not labeled any discs directly, and instead store the in jewelcases, and purchase them prepackaged in jewelcases to avoid such issues.

  • My DVD Drive dosent work and its dented and i can't get my DVD out. I have apple care so would I be able to get it replaced?

So I somehow dented my DVD drive for my macbook pro but I tried putting a disc if it would work (stupid idea) It went in but it now wont come out. I've been wanting to get to apple for a while about my DVD drive not working and now my DVD is stuck in there. I have apple care plan so would I be able to take my macbook into the store and get it replaced or parts of it replaced?

Yes, if you are in warranty. Take it in, only Apple employees can speak for Apple ( we are users here, just like you).

  • My DVD drive doesnt work

My dvd drive doesnt work, and i want to format the HD, any ideas??? i have an external dvd drive but it doesnt recognice it when i want to install the OS,
... Maybe someone can tell me how. Thanks

Time to take your disc and your computer to an Apple Store or an AASP, I'm afraid. They should be able to reinstall the OS, etc. Have no idea what they would charge but I'm sure that it would not be too expensive.

Check the manufacturer website if the device is supported on Yosemite.
If not, you can get a SuperDrive from Apple which can run on any OS X version.
