CD/DVD Drive is disappearing

My DVD Drive keeps disappering and is unusable. I have pinpointed the problem as iTunes. I did this, but removing iTunes and all worked fine. Then I reinstalled iTunes and it suddenly disappeared again. So, I used RegEdit to REMOVE the upperfilter GERA Driver that iTunes installs, and all works until I open and run iTunes again. WHAT IS GOING ON??? I never had a problem until I upgraded to the new iTunes, so Apple what is different, and don't you test this stuff prior to upgrades???? Even if I don't delete the registry key, I still can't even use iTunes. This is a HUGE problem, Google, DVD Drive disappear and iTunes and you will see a BUNCH of links, Apple HEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!

i suggest reinstall the ODD driver from device manager to isolate driver issue
to isolate issue from 3rd party software issue, do clean boot
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us
But most of intermittent issue like this maybe Hardware issue (optical, cable power or cable data issue)
I prefer external HDD or PC HDD as backup rather than CD

Why has my DVD drive disappeared from the list of available drives in Photoshop Elements? How do I get PE to pick it up again?

Please try doing the same after restarting the system. If it still doesn't recognize it, check Folder Tree in left panel of the Organizer. The tree I'm referring to is the complete folder structure which becomes visible on clicking the small icon next to My Folders.

  • Cd/dvd drive has disappeared

my cd/dvd drive is not detected by windows, but is detected by the device manager
the BIOS detects is as well. I've tried removing the upper & lower filters, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and have also checked to see if I can assign the drive a letter. the drive isn't even there
i have had this problem for a while. first i had fixed it, but then after doing a system recovery, it has disappeard once again. I've tried all of the microsoft fix its, and it all does not work.
However, it did work before I did the system recovery, so I do not believe it is a hardware issue. The cd drive also has a blinking light and spins, but windows does nothing.

  • Itunes installation causes my DVD drive to disappear

    Hello,
I wondered if anyone had any advice for me. Every time install Itunes on my Sony Vaio laptop the installation automatically uninstalls my DVD drive. I spoke to Sony and they said this was common and took me through a process of deleting two files that the Itunes installation adds to my computer. Deleting these files then allows me to reinstall my DVD drive.
The issue I have is in doing this it corrupts the Itunes, in that it says it can't burn the music and I have to reinstall it...but reinstalling Itunes only takes of my DVD drive!
Has anyone experiences similar problems and could you please offer me some advice? Thank you
    Vicky

does show up as a disk drive in device manager
are there any alert/warning messages next to the drive in Device Manager? in particular, are you seeing a code 41 message?

  • DVD drive recently disappeared.

Last successful usage of DVD was to write a few video disks in September. No problem then.
DVD no longer appears in Device Manager, first noticed November 25.
    External USB-attached drive works fine.
Drive will eject disks during POST, but acts totally dead when OS takes control.

    Hi,
I don't know the Operating system on your machine. Please try this.

  • [G575] CD/DVD drive disappeared - no longer recognized in Windows

I have a Lenovo G575 that I have had for a couple of years now. Within the past week the CD/DVD drive has disappeared. If I go to device manager it is not listed. I went through the regedit and tried to delete all the upper/lower filters in the registry and no change. I can insert a disc and it will spin and I can here it running but it won't recognize that there is a disc in the drive. Is there any way I can just reload the driver? And if so where can I find just a driver? I have gone to a couple of sites but haven't been able to just find a CD/DVD driver.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Kechrmi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that the CD/DVD driver is not detected in the device manager in your G575 Laptop, I suggest you to check of the CD/DVD is detected in BIOS. To access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
And to conform the issue, please perform OKR (One Key Recovery) using the OKR button located beside the power button.
NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OKR, as the data will be completely erased.
Do post us back if the issue still persists.
    Best Regards

  • CD/DVD drive disappeared

I have a pavilion dv9627cl notebook, with Vista Home Premium. About 1 week ago, the cd/dvd drive totally disappeared, it doesn't appear in "computer", and also doesn't appear in the "device manager'. I read the forums, and hp articles and followed the recommendations to no avail.
I deleted the upper and lower filters
    Destructive restore
    Updated the Bios
    Updated all drivers
    Uninstalled/reinstalled
Uninstalled any software that was recently put on the system
The chat function isn't working for me today, and I am very frustrated.
If anyone knows a solution, or can point me to something I may have missed while reading I would greatly appreciate it.

I also have HP notebook 9500z its been working fine for the last two years then some how build camera doesnt detect, dvd drive that i Hardly used and only burn half way and crash at 50% doesnt appear where my computer is, network adaptor failed had to turn on wireless instead. I did installed up to service pack2 and did all hard format and stuff also tried to install driver for it but it keeps telling me that " camera cannot be detected." and under my device manager doesnt show any cd/dvd drive or camera.  I also tried to restoring many times from the recovery and it didnt fixed any of the problem.  Now i cant even go to recovery mode it keeps restarting and nothing happen. This is a very nice notebook very thin and slick from the outside I also recommended to my sister.  I think it was my mistaken from looking from the outside i spent over $1000 for this .  I would try some other brand in the future..

  • Windows Vista Home + iTunes = no DVD drives

I am a long time iTunes user, and have been having an issue with iTunes for the last little while. When I install iTunes (I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit, by the way), after the required restart, my DVD drives' icons disappear (I have 2 of them). I can see the DVD drives in the Device Manager, and they say they cannot start. The only I think I've had these problems since about iTunes 7.0, but I don't burn CDs that often, so I've really not felt too bad about it, except that my wife would like to do so. I've done the registry change where you remove the upper and lower filters, which corrects the drive issue, but then presents the seemingly inevitable Registry issue dialog box, without the option to burn CDs. Here are the steps I've done thus far to try to get my computer and iTunes to play nicely:
    1. Tried reenabling the UpperFilter for GearAspiWDM as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305422
    2. Tried downloading new GEAR drivers from their website.
    3. Tried uninstalling Quicktime, and then installing it separately.
    4. Uninstalled my other music service software (SonicStage), and then reinstalling iTunes.
    5. Completely uninstalled iTunes, and then reinstalled it (a couple of iTunes versions ago).
    6. Tried uninstalling the non-functioning DVD drives in the device manager, and then scanning for hardware changes. When the UpperFilter was still present, this part failed. It passed after I removed the UpperFilter registry entry.
    Please help!

  • Stuttering, bleeps, and lost DVD drive on Satellite M40-149

    Hi
For a while now the laptop will run ok for around 1 - 2 hours, then all of a sudden the speakers will start making random high pitch very loud distorted bleeps. When this starts, the system starts stuttering. Every 2 seconds or so it will freeze for about 1/4 of a second. All processing freezes - including sound and display. This is annoying but usually a gentle shake sorts it out...
Occasionally when this happens the DVD drive will disappear too, and I need to restart to get it back. Sometimes I need to leave it off for a short while so I think this may be something to do with overheating?
Anyway, my main problem now is that the DVD drive is very rarely present. I've used some firmware analysis tools and the port connection to the drive is present but the laptop cannot communicate to it. I've thought perhaps updating the DVDs firmware may fix this but I haven't been able to yet.
I couldn't find any previous reports of this. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Or how I can fix it?
If it came to it I'd be happy to buy an external DVD drive, but the presence of the bad connection is interfering with some other tasks I'm doing....
    Thanks,
    David.

LOL :D I have read on many websites that the iTunes software makes troubles and is not fully compatible with Microsoft.
Apple and Microsoft together ?:| nice idea ;)
Thanks for the info dude ;)

  • ITunes Has Disabled My CD/DVD Drive - can anyone help ?

    Hi,
I recently bought a 5th Generation iPod Video 30gb, and have some issues with the iTunes software.
I am running a fairly new (4/5 months old) Packard Bell PC with Windows XP Home and have Sonic RecordNow CD burning software.
    Here's the problem....
When I tried to load the iTunes software from the CD that came in the box, it allowed me to install it, but then when I double-clicked the icon to launch it, I just got a Windows error message (the type that says windows has encountered an error and needs to close - would you like to send a report to Microsoft Yes/No). iTunes would not load at all.
Also, my CD/DVD drive then disappeared from the system. When I ran a check through System Tools, it said that the drivers had loaded properly, but that a CD/DVD device could not be found.
So, I did a System Restore to a few days before and the drive re-appeared and worked fine.
Next step, I downloaded iTunes from the Apple website. This time everything worked fine. I spent the entire day (much to the annoyance of my wife) transferring CDs to iTunes - no problems - iPod synchronised fine etc.
Then, a day later, I decided to carry on transferring my CD collection, but the CD drive has disappeared again - system tools says that the drivers have loaded correctly, but that a CD device cannot be found (Error 41).
Any ideas - I'd like not to have to do another restore, as I presume I'll lose all the CD data that I've transferred so far. Some other websites have suggested I edit the BIOS to point the system towards the CD drive. Slightly nervous about doing this (if indeed it's the right thing to do anyway) and wouldn't really know how.
Also, I did think about un-installing Sonic RecordNow and re-installing iTunes, but then I look in add/remove programs, it's not there.
I'm at a loss - any help would be greatly appreciated.
I await a response with eager anticipation.
    Thanks,
    Jon (United Kingdom).

    hi Pricey!

transferring my CD collection, but the CD drive has

  • Dvd drive missing

I am using HP pavilion dv6000 PC notebook and operating sytem is widows vista (32 bit) . After upgrading to service pack 2 my dvd drive got disappeared and i tried all possible solutions but could not resolve the issue.
    Please help in this matter

What is included in "all possible solutions"? Did you try the upper and lower registry filter repair?
=== Deleting UpperFilter and LowerFilter Registry Keys ===
    1. Click Start and click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
    3. Click the plus (+) sign beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    4. Click the plus (+) sign beside System.
    5. Click the plus (+) sign beside Current Control Set.
    6. Click the plus (+) sign beside Control.
    7. Click the plus (+) sign beside Class.
    8. Locate the {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} key and click it.
    9. On the File menu, click Export.
    10. In the File name box, type savedkey and click Save. It is better
to save the "savedkey" to the desktop.
    11. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters (found in right
window pane) and then click Delete on the Edit menu.
    12. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
NOTE: If this data type is missing, continue to the next
    method.
    13. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters (found in right
window pane) and click Delete on the Edit menu.
    14. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    15. Quit the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

Please see if one of these two fixes work for you.
    Auto fix:

  • Ipod/Itunes software disables my CD/DVD drive.

Guys can anyone help me with this piece of crap I bought my wife for Christmas.
WE installed the software initially correctly and it worked although an error came up with itunes. We have imported a heap of CD's and downloaded a stack of songs to the ipod.
However when we next started the computer the DVD drive was not recognised, the computer thought it was damaged or not connected. We uninstalled the ipod software but the only way to get the drive back was to restore the computer to a previous configuration. Then it wouldn't load the software again, itunes kept stuffing up. Fixed this by downloading the latest version of the software and itunes was fine but DVD drive has disappeared again which means we still can't use the stupid ipod.
Can anyone help. I don't really want itunes or quick time player as my default players either. I also have Windows Media Player and other DVD burning software loaded if that may cause problems.
    Gavin

    there's usually numbers after that.
the cruder technique involves a similar sort of edit ... basically it involves just deleting the upper and lower filters altogether. see this MS document:
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
(this is actually what Packard Bell was recommending on its support site for a while.)
if you try the cruder technique, you may get the following message next time you try to launch itunes:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a reseult of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
if you get that, rather than reinstalling itunes, try a "reboot and repair".
reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes.
go into your Add/Remove programs. select itunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
(you might also want to check to see if your other CD burning software on the PC still works. if it doesn't, head to Packard Bell, or the software manufacturer's website for instructions ... i believe that Packard Bells come with RecordNow 7.0.x, and that might be linked to your backup utilities, so it's probably worth checking.)

  • Cd drive and dvd drive~~~~help

i have install the software that come with the ipod
    after i reboot the pc,
my cd drive and dvd drive are disappear in my computer
what can i do, to get my cd drive and dvd drive back?
      Windows XP

Happens, its a commonly documented error with Windows and alot of burning software installed on one machine.
Your going to have to work thru this article to resolve it. Now it is going to be in the registry to fix it. Which is pretty indepth. The document works tho. Used to work for a company that wrote burning software and we did this on a hourly basis. If your not comfortable, your going to need to find someone who is experenced in the registry.
