CD / DVD drive is missing after upgrading to Windows 8

My Toshiba laptop (SATELLITE P755-S5320 )  hard drive crashed and had to be replaced.
I've got Windows 7 installed and am doing a Windows Update.
But I fear that it won't install all the [correct] needed drivers.
I see there is a huge list of Drivers for that model of laptop.
Is there a way to download the restore CD (which support suggests came with the laptop) which I no longer have?

The proper way is to use Toshiba Recovery Media that you were supposed to make yourself when you first started the machine.  Since you apparently did not, you can order it from HERE (scroll down). The recovery media will return the HDD to what it was when you took it out of the box including Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS and all the drivers necessary and all the very useful Toshiba Utilities.
See your USER'S GUIDE starting on page 62 for a full explanation and instructions on how to proceed.
You are correct that doing the recovery the way you are doing it now will NOT install most of the necessary drivers and none of the Toshiba Utilities.  Technically, you can do it your way if you are willing to manually download and install the dozens of drivers and utilities necessary to make the computer 100% functional.
If you decide to try doing it all manually, go HERE for all the drivers and utilities you will need.  HINT: You can narrow that list down by selecting the OS at the bottom left of the driver page and then select which driver you are looking for at the upper left.
Good Luck!

  • WPA security Types are missing after upgrading to Windows 8.1

After upgrading from Windows 8 Pro 64bit to Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit on my Sony Vaio Duoe 13, I could not find WPA security type while configuring Wireless network manually. (only WPA2 and 802.1X are available).
I have done a lot of troubleshootings like
    1-Reinstall Wirless original driver
2-Updating the wireless driver to the latest
3-Uninstall and reinstall windows 8 then upgrading again to windows 8.1
    But the same.
Is there any way to add WPA to the security type?

    Yes! It works!
To recap : My laptop has an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG adapter, windows 8.1. Even when it had windows 8, it was unable to connect, but unlike now, I didn't look closely enough about the type of network. Originally I thought it was
this problem. But they confirmed that others with windows 8 had no issues with this. Then , when I tried configuring the network manually, I could not find the WPA-enterprise option at all, only the
    WPA2-enterprise.
So here I was, and Greg Seth's answer gave me an idea.
In the following instructions, some commands are obvious, so I won't explain unless necessary. So here's what you do :
    0) Go to command line, preferably Administrator (not tried without).
    1) C:\Windows\System32> cd \Users\<User>\Documents
    2) C:\Users\<User>\Documents> netsh
    3) netsh> wlan
    4) netsh wlan> show profiles
    5) delete profile name=<yournetwork>
Enclose the name of network within quotes, this is to ensure that you can cleanly set up the right profile. Don't close the netsh, we'll need it some more. If you do, just reach there the same way as before.
    6) Right click the connection icon in lower right corner > open Network and Sharing Center > Set up a new connection or network > Manually connect to a wireless network
    7) Try to create a profile, and try to get as many details to correspond with your requirement. The rest we'll edit in command line, so let's make it as easy as possible.
    8) Do the same at the next screen. Edit Network settings > change all the parameters that you can, to match the requirement. My university tech support has a detailed document listing the options to choose, usually for windows 7, or even windows 8. get
as many of them as possible.
    9) Finish. Move back to your netsh terminal
    10) netsh wlan> show profile <profilename>
without quotes this time. This should show your previous attempt at creating a profile in the GUI dialog boxes. In my case, it had WPA2 and AES. It has to become WPA and TKIP. I also set my authMode to userOnly, since I hadn't done it right in the dialog box
    before.
    11) netsh wlan> set profileparameter
displays a humongous list of parameters with detailed options, just carefully examine the syntax. It's all here.
    12) netsh wlan> set profileparameter name=<profilename> authentication=wpa encryption=tkip authMode=userOnly
    13) netsh wlan> set profileparameter
    Don't exit this yet.
    14) Now click the connection icon, and connect to the network. It will ask you the username and password in a different style, that was my clue something was different this time.
    15) It should connect. In my case atleast, it did. Verify by browsing.
    16) netsh wlan> export profile name=<profile name>
In order that you're not put through this ordeal again, export the profile safely to a file. Again, the profile name in quotes.
    17) Wonder why microsoft makes things difficult for us!

  • Dvd drive not working after upgrade to osx10.9

Since my Macbook upgraded to 10.9 the DVD drive no longer works.
Putting in either a pre-recorded disc or a blank to burn results in the disc being ejected after spinning for a few seconds.
The SD card reader also stopped working but I was able to correct that problem.

Same problem here on a mid-2010 21.5" iMac. Will read CDs and 1 out of 100 DVDs (1 kids' DVD, weird) but generally nothing in DVD format.
I tried all the solves listed (change prefs, reset EMC and both PRAMs, boot from internet disks, even an Endust cleaning CD). Nada. I then set up a Joint Venture call and they diagnosed the drive as faulty after repeating all of the above. They say it's very possible that dying Superdrives can read CDs and even burn disks but not read DVDs. They said it'd be about $150 to replace the drive at a Genius Bar.
Here's where I try to be helpful.
If you're found this thread and you're not under warranty, don't waste ANY time testing it or trying to fix. Certainly don't roll back to previous software versions -- wasting hours of time and eliminating software features you may like or introducing incompatibilities. Just hop on over to Amazon and buy a $30 (not kidding) Amazon Basics external DVD drive. I ordered one w/ my cleaning disk knowing I'd prob need it and prob wouldn't want to pay Apple to fix my 3-year old machine. Works like an absolute charm for me. Faster ripping CDs than the Superdrive, plays DVDs through DVD Player, VLC, or XBMC instantly.
So my advice (ignore it if you like, it's worth what you paid for it) is to ignore any conspiracy theories about whether Apple planned this. IMHO, it doesn't matter for $30. Your time is worth more than $30. Just buy an external and get on with your life. You can even use it with your drive-less Air when you get one, if you don't have one already. How often can you solve a complex computer problem instantly, and be better off in the end, for $30? Just do it. End of advice.
    HTH.

  • HP Deskjet F2120 all in one printer driver not installing after upgrading to Windows 7

I have a HP Deskjet F2120 all in one printer. I was working fine in Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Once I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit the driver is failing to install.
I have tried all the solutions provided on the HP website but none of them worked.
I also wrote a mail to HP support but they replied that its out of warranty hence they will not be able to help.

I just got my HP Deskjet F2120 working in Windows 7.  Here's how:
Insert the setup disk in your CD/DVD drive.  Choose to view the files in Explorer.  Scroll down to the file "Setup," which is identified as an application.
Right-click the file and select "Properties." Click the "Compatibility" tab at the top of the resulting window.
Check off "Run this program in compatability mode for:" and choose "Windows Vista" from the pop-up menu.
ALSO check "Run this program as administrator" at the bottom of the window.
    Press "Apply," then "OK."
Now you can double-click the "Setup" file and run the software installer.
    It will 100% work inshallah...

  • Beats audio Panel Missing after upgrading to Windows 8.1 and installing HP Reccomended Drivers

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my HP Envy H8-1450. The Beats audio Panel Disappeared and only shows IDT.
I uninstalled and re-installed the HP reccomended audio drivers several times....no luck. The sound does not sound as it did under Windows 8...actually it is crapy.
    Please help.....Thanks.

    lacadan,
Did you reboot your PC after installing the IDT codec in Device Manager?
I have upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1, have the same driver (6.10.6491.0) as you, and also have a fully functioning Beats Audio Control Panel in Control Panel.
When initially removing the incorrect Beats audio codec in Device Manager you should also check completely remove the drivers from your system, reboot, and Win 8.1 should install the correct version of Beats. You then have to reboot your PC again to complete the installation of Beats.

  • Dolby Audio driver cannot start after upgrading to Windows 8.1

    Hello.
Windows 8 was the worst thing that happened to Windows, but since I bought this G505s laptop with Win8 pre-installed, i had no other choice to go to. Few days after the purchase, Windows 8.1 arrived and I updated 8 to 8.1 hoping to see some improvements. But to my sadness, 8.1 has ruined my expectations, and Lenovo didn't even care to address the user issues in 8.1
    Here are my Issues :
OneKey Recovery : Updated to 8.xx.xx.xxxx
The OneKey Recovery app tells that 'Current system cannot create a backup'
I can't have a secure laptop without it creating the Recovery !!
Lenovo, please address this issue and fix the OneKey Recovery Problem !!
Dolby audio app : Doesn't open, and if once it starts, cannot configure the Equalizer !

    4. Download this Driver for installation
            Conexant Audio Driver
    Install it and continue
    5. Open Drive C: now and you should have the Drivers folder back.
Open that, Open Connexant Open Dolby Gui,  then you should have Dolbyaa for Advanced audio.
Restart your PC and there you go!

  • CD Drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs - this happens any time I upgrade itunes

I just upgraded to the new version of itunes for my ipod touch.  My CD Drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs occurs and it does not show up listed as part of my computer.  How can I fix this?

Your DVD drive? Why would this be missing after a iTunes download?

  • A105-S4384 DVD drive not recognized after replacement.

I've seen the posts about deleting the filters from the registry on upgrade to Vista.  That doesn't help my case.
I replaced the stock Mat**bleep**a drive when it stopped reading any type of disc.  The replacement is a Toshiba TS-L632, which was sold as a compatible drive.
What I see is that in the BIOS, the drive is not recognized as Optical Drive, but on the Boot tab, the drive DOES show up as a boot option "TSST-L632H-..."
I do not see a CD/DVD drive option at all in the Windows Hardware Manager (ie. it isn't a matter of seeing an exclamation mark over the drive... it isn't there at all).
If I insert a disc, I hear the drive rev up and spin, but nada afterwards.  There is no light active on the drive.  Trying to install the L632's firmware is no good, as the installer just pops up a dialogue with "Drive not found!!" message.
I'm at wit's end.  The Toshiba site isn't helpful in confirming the compatibility of the drive, but you'd hope that if they make laptops and laptop drives, they'd be compatible.

Although the drive shows up in the boot menu, can you actually boot from it?
Some Toshiba laptops needed the drives to be in CS (cable select) mode in order for them to function properly with the laptop. This can be done on an after-market drive by shorting two pins on the connector (and I have done it before, so it does work), but that may or may not be the problem. But the computer I had to do it to was quite a bit older than yours (M10-something).

  • Drivers missing for Envy 6 after upgrade to windows 8

There are a few missing drivers shown on the device manager after Upgrade to windows 8 for model: Envy 6-1006TX.
    The four items are:-
    1. PCI Device
    2. PCI Simple Communications Controller
    3. Unknown device
    4. Unknown device
I try to find it on the support and download page on the product support but could not find.
i even go to HP Support Assistant website to try download the support assistant for window 8, but the links is not working.
    Can anyone assist ? Thanks

Enter the Device Manager in Windows 8 by holding the Windows key and tapping the x key once. In the menu that is invoked, select the Device Manager. Right-click on the unknown device and then select the details tab. See the following image. I arbitrarily selected a device as an example.
Post the image by using the snipping tool. The snipping tool can be found by using the Windows key + x and selecting search. Type in "snipping" and the snipping tool link will appear for you to click on it and use as in the following image.
Post all that is before the &SUBSYS in the top PCI\VEN alphanumeric string and I can use it to see if the manufacturer of the device has  posted a Windows 8 driver. Sometimes the success rate for finding a driver is greater at the manufacturer website.

  • Driver for the ethernet controller on a HP Pavillion P600000 Series desktop after upgrading to Windows 7 Enterprise?

After upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Enterprise (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601), I cannot find working drivers for my ethernet controller. The desktop is a HP Pavillion, Model
No. p6710f. I located the drivers on HP's website, but Windows 7 Enterprise
is not listed as compatible. Compatibility list:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
The original driver (according to HP's site) is a Realtek PCIe Family networking controller, Version:7.26.902.2010 Rev. A.
    I tried contacting HP, but apparently I voided their warranty once I upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise. I do not have a support plan with Microsoft because the operating system was purchase through TechSoup (nonprofit). I greatly appreciate your help;
let me know if you need more information.

  • DVD burning not working after upgrading to 10.5.1

    Hi,
I just purchased a macbook and found that dvd burning stopped working after upgrading to mac os 10.5.1. I went back to 10.5 and now it works without problems. Since so far I haven't experience problems with 10.5, I will continue using it.
Anyway, I just wanted to let other users know about this problem. I didn't find any references about it in the forum.
    Best wishes,
    Manuel

    Hi,
I just got DVD burning to work under 10.5.1. I had originally formatted the OS-X partition as "case sensitive". Today I reformatted the partition as a regular Mac-os journaled partition, re-installed leopard and the upgrade, and now DVD burning works fine. I am not 100% sure, but it seems that using the case sensitive format caused the problem.
