CD/DVD drive is trying to eject CD but cannot

I hear the CD/DVD drive trying to eject a CD but it appears to be jammed in there. I hear a muffled popping sound and the ejector working. Any help is appreciated. Tried the Restart with the left mouse button but did not work.

Hi. I had a similar problem. If I tilted the screen back to 45 degrees, the disc ejected,so it was obviously a mechanical problem. It was solved by a new disc unit. David.

  • Need to load CC programs to E drive SSD - tried preferences, uninstall & cleaner but still C:

New build Xeon machine : C: = 250 GB SSD for System, E = 750 GB SSD for programs and scratch, 4TB HDD for data. I've tried everything I've seen to get CC installs to go on the E drive, uninstalled and run the cleaner, but cannot get the install to shift.
I have seen plenty of advice that this type of configuration is ideal for video editing and dealing with large numbers of image preview generation, but the C drive is already around 75% full, so I must get CC Apps onto the E drive.
    Can you advise, please ?

It's tough to help you without any information, such as how is it connected. Have you done some fundamentals like checking the cables, disconnecting and reconnecting, SMC resets and  PRAM resets? If not start looking at cables, don't forget to switch them out. If you're not familiar with the resets instructions are below and don't forget to reboot in Safe Mode.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

It's not launched from the CC app.
If you have Windows, look under Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CC
If you have a Mac, look in the Application Folder > Photoshop CC

Go back to that article, ignore the instructions for updating it wirelessly, scroll down, and follow those for updating it from iTunes on a computer.

  • Super drive keeps trying to eject when there is no disk inside.

I recently dropped my phone onto the area to the right of the trackpad. Straight away the my computer starts trying to eject a cd. It tries 3 times before giving up. This happens everytime a wake up/restart the machine. I'm thinking maybe I knocked something loose with the impact? Will this be easy enough to fix. It works fine, just this noise everytime I open it up.

    Good morning,
Sometimes, it’s difficult to distinguish between what is hardware and software induced problems. Repairing Permissions and/or Resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU) may resolve or at least help in the troubleshooting process.
    Repair Permissions:
    Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
    Select: your Hard Drive
    Select: the First Aid tab
    Select: Repair Permissions
    PMU
Resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU) is known to resolve certain anomalies and may well help with your symptom.
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
Press the Power button to restart the computer.

  • CD/DVD Drive on Satellite constantly ejecting

Hey All: My Satellite laptop's CD/DVD drive keeps ejecting sporadically even if I am not using it. WIll a lens cleaner help? Anyone had this same thing and were able to correct it?
    Please help!

    Hi
I dont know exactly why it happens but possibly the drive ejects because the drive cannot read the medium?
Does it happen with all CD/DVD medium?
I think the lens cleaning will not solve this sporadically ejecting.
In my opinion there could be something wrong with the physical eject mechanism on the drive.

  • Dvd drive won't read/ejects dvds at a whim

    Hi all,
My macbook dvd drive seems to not wish to play certain dvds- only a few though... when this occurs, it just tends to spit them back out at me.
It's not a problem with the dvds, as they play on my dvd player, just not on the laptop...
    any ideas?

    Hi Peeps
I had exactly the same problem with my Macbook, again from the UK. Really weird though as would intermittantly read DVD film's which worked fine previously.
Well.... Took it to my local Apple store and saw a genius and anyway they replaced the super drive and logic board (surprised about the logic board!).
But just got it back today and the DVD drive is completely fubard so is being returned tomorrow to get this sorted!
Moral of the story, sounds like a drive or board problem. Will keep you updated when I get mine back

  • Need to buy DVD drive / Storage for my iMac Mid2011 but don't know where to start

I have an iMac mid2011, and would like to fit it with an additional dvd drive so that I don't have to mess around changing region codes from 1 to 2 and back.
Can somebody please recommend a dvd drive (better if blu-ray) compatible with iMac Mid2011?  I am thinking of buying online, but I am afraid of getting the wrong thing.
I am also expanding my video library, and have considered buying a 2TB external HD, but a friend told me to better buy a NAS.  So same question goes, should I stay traditional and just buy the hard drive?  Which brands are most compatible with my mac?  and If you'd rather buy a NAS, why should I go for it, and which brand?
    Thanks so much Apple experts.
    AJD

So far I've not found a single USB DVD player that didn't work with the Mac. BluRay is a bit trickier since you'll also need 3rd party software to play commercial BluRay movies because the  Mac OS doesn't support BluRay.
A NAS is useful under three circumstances: 1) you want to access data from the drive when you aren't at home. 2) you have more than one computer in the household and want to share that drive with them and/or 3) you want to take advantage of RAID technology. And even here a NAS isn't the only way to accomplish this.
If none of these hold true for you then save your money and get a high quality external drive - I recommend OWC to one and all. (I have no affiliation, I'm a very satisfied customer.) You might even want to consider OWC's miniStack Max which contains both a hard drive and optical drive.

  • Quicksilver trying to power on, but cannot.....

My Quicksilver G4 has a recently installed 30GB hard drive. It also has new RAM installed (512MB). I tried to power up the computer: The button lights up fo a second or two, I can hear slight whirring from the inside (as if it is trying to power on), but it stops and the light fades out quickly after that. I never get any farther. I tried resetting the PRAM on the logic board and disconnecting the hard drive, but it does not help anything. Could a monitor adapter cause this if I connected an older Powermac 9600 monitor to it? Please help. I want my G4 back up and running...

    Hi, Ely970 -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
    Try resetting the PMU -
    Article #HT1939 - Resetting CUDA/PMU
Also, if you've never replaced the machine's internal battery, that may have become too weak or dead. The expected life of that battery is 4 to 5 years under best-case circumstances; one that's too weak or dead can cause booting problems. You can get a replacement at places like RadioShack for about US$17, cheaper on-line.
It is possible that when you were inside the machine (new hard drive, new RAM) you may have dislodged one of the internal cables. Make sure those are well-seated in their connectors.
Make sure the new RAM is firmly seated in its socket - the little plastic fingers at the ends of the slot should be pushed to vertical when the RAM module is all the way in.
When you installed the new hard drive, did you confirm its jumpers were set properly? That model does not handle Cable Select well. It's better to use the Master or Slave jumper settings, as appropriate: with only one drive, use Master; with two drives, set one to Master and the other to Slave. Exception - Western Digital (WD) drives often have a third jumper position, Single, which is to be used when the drive is the only one on the bus.

  • 15" C2D DVD Drive loud on load/eject?

Is this normal? It makes quite the clicking noise loading and loading discs
    I have some OEM make I don;t recognize HL-DT-whatever...
I seem to recall one model of the first Ti-PB series being like this too....drive was like 'clunk-click, every trip'

this info may be of use...
i had my drive checked out today at the genius bar, bluewater, previous to seeing this thread.
i too was concerned about how noisy the drive was compared to my old 12" powerbook and the genius guy agreed it was definitely noisier than some of the other C2D MBP's in the store. [had a few extra 'clunks'].
anyway, he has ordered a new drive and it is being replaced next week.
the drive is a HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA and the MBP is a week old [custom build order placed about 3-4 weeks ago].
the drive also seems incredibly slow when copying data off it? and the fans are also being checked as when they kick in are incredibly 'buzzy'. sound familiar?

  • Is it impossible to burn a second copy of a DVD after you have burned the first from iDVD? i am using OS 10.6.8 and iDVD version 7.1.2. the DVD is inserted, then iDVD ejects it, but keeps running as though it is working but it's not.

    any help is much appreciated.

thanks guys; but the problem is that iDVD does not want to burn a disk now from the original movie-project. i see the movie project on teh desktop and can launch it just fine - even play it through the iDVD application - but when i click burn, it asks for a disk (I insert a memorex DVD+RDL 8.5Gb 240 minute dual layer) and it ejects it a few seconds later. the IDVD progress bar still runs as though it is burning just fine - its progress drops from 18 minutes all the way to "less than a minute" and then it hangs. even if i insert a different memorex disk, it still doesn't start actually burning it. it only burned the very first memorex disk i inserted successfully. i have tried disk utility to burn from a .dmg file copy of the original successfully burned disk, but disk utility can't burn onto the memorex disk either. maybe something wrong with the super drive? thanks for your ideas.
