Cd/dvd drive keeps ejecting Discs

My ibook G4 14.1 (mid 2005) Keeps ejecting discs after i put them in, it will
not accept any disc whether is was a cd r-rw+/- or commercial disc or dvds,i am thinking it is about to die, but i want to see if there was something i was doing wrong or not. It does make every once in a while a grinding sound but has not made that sound for a while.

I'm having a similar problem with my iBook, but so far i've found no solution...

    Hi
    a. You are using Cheap media as Memorex, NoName etc DVDs - I only use Verbatim
    b. You use a DL-DVD or DVD+/-RW type of media - Old Macs can not use DL-DVDs - I only use DVD-R
    c. Your DVD-burner needs a cleaning - Cleaning DVD without liquid but the brush type
    d. Is there OK free space on Your Start-Up (Macintosh HD) hard disk - I never go less than 25Gb free.
    e. Can You describe the material used to create Your DVD
    - Video Codec/s
    - Photo file formats
    - Audio file formats
iDVD can not use all but only a few of them - still it tries and then often fails
    Just to start by.

  • DVD Superdrive keeps ejecting discs

My trusty old PB G4 has just started to eject discs from the dvd superdrive. I've tried various discs (mainly cd-r) but for some reason it squeaks and squawks then ejects the disc????
Could this be a media problem or perhaps.......a hardware problem?
    Any thoughts gladly appreciated.
    Dan

I'm having this problem with my 2.5 Penryn Macbook Pro
And I had the same problem with my last mac which was a 2.8 24" silver iMac.
I took it to be repaired, they replaced the superdrive, and then I sold it on. But now the person i sold the iMac to is saying they are having the same problem.
It must be a fault with Apple's superdrives. My external firewire slot loading burner works perfectly.
Unfortunately I'll have to use that and wait until I buy my next mac before i can take this one in to be repaired. Hopefully they dont just replace the drive with another one of the same model.
I found a solution for this problem with old powerbooks:

But no success with my MBP

  • Optical drive keeps ejecting disc-mac book pro any help?

Disc keeps ejecting out, any solutions? mac book pro

The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
The MacBook Air SuperDrive is designed to be used with MacBook Air and Mac mini computers that do not have a built-in optical drive. For best results, connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X 10.7 Lion or later: Open System Information by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click System Report.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

  • Cd/dvd drive keeps ejecting cd/dvd!!!

My cd/dvd drive is going crazy. Soon after i put a cd or dvd in the drive, it spits it back out. it sounds as though it is trying to read the disc, but fails. My drive was working normal earlier today, then it went crazy?!? i am not too computer savvy...HELP!

Like I said I was having problems with the drive called AppleCare they told me to do some things I already done they included...
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Holding down the Command(Apple), Option, P, and R and then hold the Power button simultaneously, and told me to do that 3 times and wait for 3 loud buzzing (or some odd sound I can't describe).
Also Resetting System Management Controller (SMC)
Was told to shutdown and disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery after that I had to press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds(I did 10 seconds) and then release the button, then reconnect the battery and AC Adapter and to restart the system.
I was asked to try the drive again and it did not work when I was talking on the phone with the person, they said they could not do any thing becasue I was out of warranty but I asked to talk to a manager or someone higher about all my problems with the MacBook and see if I could get a new unit and he said yes and put me on wait but when I was on wait I tried out the drive again and it worked again.
I do not know if it good again for the long run or it fail and just because of that! This is one of my least trusted Apple systems, for having the plastic replaced, having a hard drive go dead, and having the AC adapter switched out for a different one, and now this drive. This is one odd Apple system!

  • DVD drive not ejecting discs

MacBook Pro UniBody with MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868
I have to eject a CD or DVD 10 or 20 times. It makes the eject noise then the disc doesn't come out and it gets remounted again. After 10 or 20 goes suddenly one time it comes all the way out.
Any clues - is this a hardware fault?
    cheers
    Tommy B.

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

  • CD drive keeps ejecting discs.

Everytime I restart or turn on the machine, it ejects the CD in the drive. What could be causing this? It's getting rather annoying. Looking around this forum and Google, I see cases of people having trouble getting their discs out of their MacBook, but not keeping them in. =/
    Thanks.
    MacBook Pro 17-inch   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have the same problem, sort of. When ever I put a cd in it tries to eject it, I've realized if I put my finger in front of the loader when it tries to eject then it goes back in and loads the CD and works fine.

  • DVD Drive keeps ejecting!

I have an HP Probook 4540s which i bought just a couple of weeks ago. The dvd-rom has suddenly started ejecting randomly, even though i havent used it at all since buying the notebook. Somebody please help!

update windows, re-install or rollback drivers, and maybe update bios. If that doesn't work get a new optical drive.

  • Using osx snow leopard with boot camp, optical drive keeps ejecting windows 7 disc

Upgraded my late 2008 macbook pro from leopard to snow leopard.  Added the max 4GB of RAM and replaced the working 250GB hard drive with a new 1TB hard drive.  Rebooted with time machine from external hard drive.  Now tried setting up Bootcamp to add a Windows 7 partition, but the optical drive keeps ejecting the Windows 7 disc after it spins for a few moments.  The optical drive will read other discs, just not the Windows 7 disc.  How do I fix this problem?

you need to install the new bootcamp drivers from windows. boot into windows, insert the snow leopard DVD, open it and follow the instructions.

  • My CD/DVD drive automatically ejects every disc I put in.

    Hi!
I have an Mac Book 15" - Late 2011 / OX 10.9.2  8 Gig RAM AND 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor. My CD/DVD drive automatically ejects every disc I put in immediately. I can't figure out why it's doing this as till December 2013 it was doing fine? I had to reinstall OX and Maverics as my Laptop was lost and recovered and I had actioned erase all data.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Check this FAQ*:

    Also check this article
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal
If you suspect it could be the latter, you may just have to replace the optical drive, or add an external one that supports Mac OS X utility booting, and not use possible rootkit CDs again.

  • HT2494 Usb super drive is not playing my dvds.  keeps ejecting them.  It is brand new

USB SUPER DRIVE IS NEW.  MAC IS NEW.  THE DRIVE IS NOT ACCEPTING MY DVDS.  KEEPS EJECTING THEM.
I HAVE THE MAC, 21.5 INCH INTEL BASED DESK TOP

I have the same issue wherein my external usb superdrive is ejecting the DVDs.
When I had the Snow Leopard, I was able to copy the DVDs into my hard drive, or even just watch DVD films.  Since I have the Mountain Lion, the DVD films which I used to be able to watch were not able to be read anymore ... it ejects them.
I did not notice it when I upgraded the Mountain Lion, because I did not watch any new DVDs.  Noticed this only couple of months back, and been searching for the solution.

  • My imac keeps ejecting discs and wont read them

my imac keeps ejecting discs and wont read them

I did not ask for the full serial number.  Anyway, you are the 7th week of 2008, unlikely that is a PRAM battery issue.
Since your machine isn't under warranty, I'd try a CD cleaner that supports car stereos, like this one from Radio Shack online, but only if Apple Authorized service technician says it is safe:
    http://www.radioshack.com/index.jsp?productId=2361963
This being a user to user forum, I can't say if it is or isn't.
Or you can buy a supported external optical drive, like the various ones from http://www.macsales.com/
Internal optical drive replacement is complicated, and possibly covered on http://www.ifixit.com/

  • My cd/dvd drive keeps rejecting all cd/dvd.

Silly question, have you tried a lens cleaner?

  • DVD drive keeps initializing

Hi, I have an dv6 1149wm, and the DVD drive keeps initializing like when you pop it open and close it without putting anything in the drive.  It makes a fast spinning noise and shuts up.  I've updated all drivers and bios per hp's support assistant, but I didn't see any updates for the dvd drive.  Any clues before I take it back?  I already know HP will want to see it and I'll not have my laptop for weeks on end while they replace the drive... Running windows 7

There wasn't an early 2012 13" MacBook Pro - what you may have purchased in early 2012 was a late 2011 13" MacBook Pro.
If you're still under warranty - if it's not been one year past your purchase date - you can take you machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them fix the problem. If you're out of your one year warranty - and didn't buy the AppleCare extended warranty - it may cost you to have the drive 'fixed' (I guessing that it will have to be replaced).
    Good luck,
    Clinton
