CD/DVD Drive won't burn file to disk.

I have a HP Pavilion dv2799ea and i am running Windows 7 Bit on it.
My CD/DVD ROM Drive is a slimtype DVD A DS8A1H ATA Device.
When i try to burn files to a disk it it throws up the following error message:
"The disc wasn't burned successfully. Make sure that you have the laciest firmware for you CD or DVD burner installed, and then try again"
My driver are up to date on my DVD drive.
What i have tried so far to fix this problem is:
I uninstalled the slimtype DVD A DS8A1H ATA Device via device manager
and also uninstalled the
ATA Channel 0, ATA Channel 0, ATA Channel 1, ATA Channel 1, ATA Channel 2
under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager,
restarted my PC and it started installing them again, but with no luck as the disc will till not burn!
Also i went into Regedit under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Class > {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and deleted the UpperFilters - REG_MUTI_SZ
These were both fixes for other people online who seemed to have the same problem as me, however they have not worked for me!
I have since restored the registry the its former state.
I realism the error message says it may need a newer version of firmware, but i have searched online and don't seem to be able to find one (not that there isnt one).
If anyone could could please help me with this it would be greatly appreciated, as i feel i have tried everything that i am capable of!
For further note: I bought the PC second hand off a mate in April 11, but have not tried to burn a disc since i have had it!
He previously had windows vista on it!
Thank you in advance for any help or information on this matter

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have downloaded the software and tried to burn the files to disc with it, but it gives the following error:
"An error occured while burning the disc. Most likely the disc is not usable. Usually, these errors happen if the inserted media is not compatible to the drive or of poor quality.
(devWriteProtected)  Could not write to Disc (LBA: 0 Length:32).
Write Protected. - 0x052700"
The discs i am using are cheap ones that i bought at the supermarket, 100 for £8 or something!
Do you think this could be the problem?

i have a compaq cq62 with windows 7 home premium with the cd/dvd drive won't burn a disc, although it will read a cd

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
Check if the drive will now burn a disc.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it is now able to burn a disc.

    PC details;

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
Processor: AMD A4-3305M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.90 GHz

The PC is outside its warranty period.
Hello, as a user with very little technical knowledge I need some help.
DVD disks will no longer burn. Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 & similar programs all indicate successful completion of dvd burn but when disks are run afterwards, no data appears to be contained on them (apparently blank disks which click a lot then open in AutoPlay.)
I also tried burning a CD for audio with Windows Media Player but it stopped at 99% then began clicking & making strange noises resulting in an unreadable blank CD.
I've found nothing relevant previously posted here other than this; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us? which has been read & all the steps completed, so some assistance would be appreciated since to date 20 odd disks have already been wasted. A variety of different brands and types of writable discs - but all to no avail.
So... all suggested steps in link ablove completed.
I've cleaned the optical laser, updated drivers & ensured Microsoft Updates are current, uninstalled/reinstalled the DVD/CD-ROM drive, used Microsoft Fix it Solution (MicrosoftFixit.dvd.MATSKB.Run) which resulted in various fixes but didn't cure the problem. In the registry there were no upper and lower filters.
    Thanks, Tony

    Hello hpvirgin55,
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you are unable to burn DVDs anymore. I will do my best to assist you with this issue!
In this situation, it is hard to determine whether the issue is due to faulty hardware or software. To truly determine this, a reinstall of the operating system will be required. For more information on how to do this, please reference this document: Performing an HP System Recovery
Please let me know your results. Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Dvd drive won't burn

I have heard it's a known issue with older macbook pros.  I've had a super drive since first buying the computer but never needed to burn a DVD.  Now when I try to do it it won't work and ejects the disk and gives an error message.
Other posts about this topic seem to have been deleted.

If you read this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3882324?start=0&tstart=0  the person responds with a link that no longer seems to exist.  There may be a typo in the link but I can't tell.  It is an issue similar to the one I am currently having.

do you have the win 7 cd handy, try to boot into the discs and see whether that works, this will tell you whether that is software or hardware problem. Such failures do occur, due to ageing of laser.

I just bought a new ipod and installed the software and now my CD/DVD drive won't work at all. Here is my info: Could someone please help!!!

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

    Drive is empty.
If anyone has a solution for this stupid problem that would be great.
    Thanks

Yes, I suspect that it's the virtual drive emulator software you have there. I know nothing about that software and it doesn't look like the Roxio support page even mentions it, so it's probably software old enough that they're not supporting it anymore.
To uninstall any software, I would start with the "Add and Remove Programs" Control Panel. Uninstall it there, and then use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility —
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
Download and install that. Run it and find the drive emulator software on the list and remove it there. And reboot and see if that has successfully removed it.
There is a work around that if we just remove the iTunes CD driver, you'll probably get your drive back, but you'll only be able to rip CDs, you won't be able to burn them without the iTunes CD driver installed. You do have some Pinnacle CD burning software installed. Are you currently using that or is that leftover cruft as well?

  • Optical drive vibrates when burning files

When I burn a dvd or cd in my optical drive (DVD R/W) the whole drive vibrates so hard that I have to clamp it in place with my hand.  Sometimes it will not burn the items selected and sometimes it does.  I have ourchased a new (used) dvd optical R/W drive and replaced the opiginal one, but it does the same thing.  The drive feels as though it is a sloppy fit in the bay, but there are no adjustments I can see to make the fit better.
Is this a common issue with the Pavilion G6, Win 7, or is there some software fix?
    Thanks for any help.

Nothing to care its normal when writing CD/DVD notebook will rotate Disk with high speed due to this optical drive vibrates while  burning files.
    No more action needed

  • So, now my CD/DVD drive won't work

I made the BIG mistake of upgrading to LION last week.   Up until that moment, EVERYTHING was working fine on my MAC.   I downloaded the software just fine but when I went to install it I received a message saying my hard drive was full.   I'm sure that I had plenty of room left and would have thought that if it was full I would have received that message PRIOR to the download.   Nevertheless, I tried it again.  This time I received a message saying that there was something wrong with my hard drive and it needed repairing.   I did the verification and tried to do the repair but it wouldn't work.
Made an appointment with the Apple Store, (at least I live near a store), and they went through all the diagnostics and said, "There is nothing wrong with your hard drive yet we are unable to install the upgrade ... meaning that my computer will not function.  I had to buy a new hard drive and have them install LION on it.   Before I left the store I told the tech guy that I'd like to turn it on to make sure it would work ... guess what ... it wouldn't.   "I can't understand it", he said, "It was working just fine a few minutes ago."   I had him try it a few more times and then he advised me that they'd have to do it again and for me to come back (again).
So, now I have a new hard drive and a new operating system ... but I had to pay for it in cash, frustration, time, and lost data (my email archive mostly) ... BUT ... now my CD/DVD drive won't work.   I've had to reload software with an external drive.
    What the **** ????
Anyone with some thoughts on this?
(Plus I've had to create a new MAC ID?   Why won't it accept my old account ID?)

Thank you again ... I wasn't aware of that bit of information.
I've never used Toast before but have heard of it.  I just went to their website and watched a quick video.  I'm a tad confused though ... is Toast able to rip movie DVD's before burning a copy?   I used to have some software that could do this but, of course, it's now gone with my new hard drive.

  • My dvd drive won't open so I can insert a disc.  It has opened in the past by pushing the button on my mac

I can't insert any dvd's because my dvd drive won't open when I push the open key.  It has always worked in the past.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

It's possible there is a CD/DVD in the drive that's stuck. Open Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities. Do you see a CD/DVD in the drive? Try ejecting using unmount.
If that fails, restart and hold down the mouse button whe restarting.

  • E440 CD/DVD Drive Won't Open

Hello. I bought a Thinkpad Edge E440 and it came yesterday. However the CD/DVD Drive won't open. If it do the paperclip trick, it will, but when I press the button it just makes a few noises and then nothing, if I right click the drive and press eject, same result. Any suggestions please?

I saw that you posted the suggested paper clip trick as a solution, but it does not work for me. my machine is a new (2011) hp. i do not think it matters that it is a bluray drive. any other hints would be hugely appreciated

  • Imac dvd drive won't accept disks

My iMac's dvd drive won't let me insert any disks. It feels like there's something blocking the way in. The eject button on my keyboard doesn't seem to be working either – usually the dvd drive makes an 'ejecting sound' when the button is pushed, even when there's no disk. I've also tried some disk ejecting tricks found in this community. The dvd drive seems to be responding to nothing...

    Try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
No guarantee this will work but it's a start.

  • MacBook CD/DVD drive won't read disc

I have a Apple MacBook MC207LL. I have run into a major problem. My CD/DVD drive won't recogonize a disc when it's inserted (I have to force eject it). Disk utility shows that there is a disc present in the CD/DVD drive.
My major issue is that I erased my partition so I can have a clean install of my laptop. Now I can't reinstall the OS because it won't read the disc or a USB.
Is there a way to use Terminal to force it to read my data on the disc?
Otherwise I am stuck with an empty computer that I will never be able to use I have done research on this and nobody has run into this exact problem as me. If someone can take their time to help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem, but now mine wont even notice that the disc is there! I wouldsay take it to the genius bar.

  • External dvd drive won't work on USB macBook air

External dvd drive won't work on my macBook air usb port.  It works on older versions of air and iMac.
Any ideas.  Tried the left shift, control, option and power button sumultaniously, but did not work.

I know that no one has replied yet, but figured out the issue.  I called Applecare and they couldn't figure it out, so sent me to a genuis at the Apple store.  They too couldn't figure it out and told me that it was a firmware issue with the Toshiba dvd external drive.  When I got home, I thought I would try one more thing.  I hooked it up to a powered hub and it works perfectly.  I'm not sure why no one else thought of it, but glad that I did.

  • My DVD drive won't open when I click the button

    Hi there
I'm hoping someone can help me.
My DVD drive won't open when I click the button.
I've tried clicking on eject on the DVD Drive icon in My Computers and it comes up with an error message.
I think I deleted cookies the other day. Could that have anything to do with the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to send my laptop away to a technician.

    Hi
Try to open the CD/DVD drive manually.
Near the eject button you will find a small hole.
You could use a small object like staple and could push it carefully into this hole.
Usually this should helps to open the drive manually.
