CD-DVD drive write problem

Hi Everyone,
I have a lenovo 3000 N200 0769. The operating system is Windows XP Pro. For some reason the CD/DVD  RW drive can read files from cd and dvd but whenever I am trying to write on either one of these mediums, I always received a message asking to enter a blank writable disk while the drive already has a blank disk. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
It would help if you identified your notebook with its complete product name or  product number.
HP has produced and brought to market perhaps more than 10,000 models of notebooks and desktop PCs over the years. It is difficult to help you if we don't know which one you own and which operating system is installed.
Method #1: If the notebook will boot into Windows you can retrieve your Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. You can also read the Service Tag (if present) attached to the bottom of your notebook\netbook.
Method #2:
Remove the battery and look in the compartment where the battery was installed. You should see a printed part number and a product name. Please post one or both of them (with all alphanumeric characters here). If you live outside of North America, it helps us if you post the country of purchase.
Desktop PC
Look at the rear or side of your desktop for a service tag for the complete product name and product number.
Best regards,
erico

When I insert a DVD-R into my external usb-connected Lenovo DVD Drive (USB 2.0 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo II Drive) and I try to format it to prepare it for backing up data, I get "Disk is write protected."  What's going on?

you got the combo drive, and not a dvd burner, it can only burn cd and not dvd....

  • Cd/dvd drive tenacious problem!

    Hi! I'm stuck.
HP Pavilion dv6624ca laptop, with cd/dvd/lightscribe drive from TSST. Some months ago it stopped recognizing any media. It just clicks and gronks and never gets up to speed, eventually just stops with nothing recognized, pretending it's empty.
    I've tried it all:
Windows Update (I have Vista Service Pack 2)
    uninstalled cd driver and reinstalled
deleted upper and lower filters in registry
checked Device Manager, everything seems to be working fine.
    Except it isn't.
After all that, it recognizes music cd's but no others, data or dvd. In Safe Mode command prompt it doesn't recognize them, either.
Sounds like a hardware thing, right? Here's the catch - my wife has the same computer, which developed exactly the same problem at roughly the same time. Like some update somewhere down the road did it. And when I connect an external cd/dvd drive, it acts the same way.
    Help!

  • CD/DVD drive mount problems

for some reason Arch refuses to see/mount my CD/DVD drive, I have a Sony PCG-F350 laptop (PII 366, 192 Ram, CD/DVD combo drive), I think I have the fstab configured properly, any suggestions?
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
    none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/dvd udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    /dev/floppy/0 /mnt/fl vfat user,noauto 0 0
    /dev/discs/disc0/part2 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/discs/disc0/part1 / reiserfs defaults,noatime 0 0
And thanks in advance, you guys are always a great help!

    Simply create /mnt/cd yourself...
sudo mkdir /mnt/cd (or use root console instead of sudo).
    Also, replace the fstab lines
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0     /mnt/cd   iso9660   ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0     /mnt/dvd  udf       ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    with
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0     /mnt/cd   auto   ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
or even, if you use udev and not devfs,
    /dev/hdb    /mnt/cd   auto   ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
or, if you use udev/dbus/hal at startup, delete the lines completely and let fstab-sync autocreate them (the new mount point will be under /media ).

  • My DVD drive has problems.

I've been browsing the forums and noticed that a lot of other people have the same problem I have with the new Intel iMac 20". Everything was working great for the first 2 days. On the evening of the second day, I watched a DVD movie. When I went to use the drive the next day, it won't recognize DVDs at all. Not even the ones it recognized the first two days. CDs seem to show up fine.
I used Apple support chat where they had me create a new user to see if it had the problem as well. Their next suggestion was to shut it down, unplug it for 10 seconds, and start it up with the apple-option-p-r button process. Those didn't fix my problem so they told me to take it to a service center.
Hopefully I'll get a drive that will last longer than two days this time.
    Intel iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi Don, thanks for the reply. I read in another thread here that Apple support told another user not to run an optical cleaner in the drive. I can't remember the reason. There is an apple service center two minutes from my work, so I'm just going to take it in without trying to fix it myself. Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • Freecom CD/DVD Drive/Writer no longer recognised

I don't seem to be getting very far with Freecom's support so I thought I'd ask here. Since upgrading to OS 10.5.6 discs inserted into my external reader/writer are no longer mounting.
Has anybody found a solution for this?
If I open up Disk Utility and System Profiler it shows:
Disk Description : FREECOM_ DVD+/-RW20J5 Capabilities : Click for more information
    Connection Bus : USB
    Connection Type : External
    Burn Support : Unsupported
    Firmware Revision: QF51
    Interconnect: USB
Burn Support: Yes (Generic Drive Support)
    Profile Path: None

    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh

Many of us have had optical writers go unsupported w/Snow Leopard.
I'm back to relying on my internal burner, and with the very, very small number of discs I burn these days (like none), I'm not missing the external.

  • DVD Drive bristle problem

So you know those bristles on the DVD ROM drive, the ones meant to keep crumbs and stuff out of your drive? So I spilled some milk on my computer, but really it was only a few drops, I have a 17 inch and the only place that got wet was the very tip of the comp and the DVD bristles - none of the electronics got wet. But I'm guessing that the sugar in the milk stiffened the bristles and now DVD's don't want to come out, I put some water on the bristles hoping to loosen them up, but that didn't do it, does anyone know of a cleaner or something for those bristles designed to loosen them up?

Hi, mbezold, and welcome to Apple Discussions. The UJ-815 is the oldest SuperDrive model you could have bought — at least five years old. If it was allegedly new when you bought it, I'd have doubts about whether that claim was true. If it was used, no wonder it doesn't work properly any more. If I were you, I'd return it for a refund and buy a modern SuperDrive model to replace it.

After reading the boards, it sounds like the Pioneer DVR-112D 18X DVD Burner (Drive only) is the unit to buy and replace this Sony one.
There appears to be a spacer issue related to the door on the G5 Tower case. Will the spacers from the Sony unit work on the Pioneer unit, or can the Pioneer unit just be installed as is using the existing ribbon cable. I've read the PMG5OpticalDriveDIY.pdf replacement manual, but am confused about SuperDrives vs. the Pioneer DVR-112D.
Can anyone clarify the details of replacement?
Also, will I need new software (Roxio, Toast) to burn CD's and DVD's after replacing the drive?
    thanks, and best regards,

  • Dc/dvd drive not functioning and not recognized in device manager after installing Windows 7 OS

I have an HP Pavilion laptop, model # dv9617nr, which was originally loaded (from the factory) with Windows Vista.  I upgraded the OS to Windows 7 a few months ago, and initially, everything worked fine.  Within the last month, however, my DVD/CD ROM optical drive stopped working and is not recognized in Explorer, and does not show up in Device Manager.  I have tried a number of fixes from this forum and the Microsoft Windows 7 forums, with no positive effect.  I should note that upon inserting a disc in the drive, everything sounds normal (device spins and the external LED lights up) but nothing happens and the unit shuts down.
I have no idea if this is a software or a hardware issue.  I did check the HP website for software and driver updates for my model and the Windows7 OS, but HP has no update for this PC running this OS.  ANY help is greatly appreciated.

  • Satego X200-21D: TS-L632D DVD-Drive doesn't read and burn DVD-R DL

    Hallo,
I have problems with my SATEGO X200-21D DVD-Drive
TS-L632D to read an burn DVD-R DL discs.
I contacted the Toshiba-support via e-mail ans asked
for a new drive-firmware, but the answer did not solve my problem.
There are only updates in the toshiba download area,
but not for my drive model. I can send my notebook
for money to a service partner, to check this problem.
I can not understand this! I bought a highend notebook
for 1.700 EUR and it is no firmware update support
available to solve problems with newer discs?
If i search for this problem in the WEB, there an a lot of
questions and problems with reading and burning
DVD-R DL discs with this drive modell!
    How can it be???
I hope for some hints to get a firmware drive update
to fix the problems reading and writing DVD-R DL discs.

    Hi,
yes I have got the TS-L632D drive and not the TS-L632H - that is true. But why is no firmware update available for TS-L632D,
because also this drive has problems with DVD-DL discs!? I payed 1700,- EUR for my Thoshiba notebook with the
DVD-drive TS-L632D. And in my opinion it can't be, that for this drive version is no firmware update available!!!
Other companys (f. i. DELL , SAMSUNG) support this drive version and offer firmware updates for this drive modell.
It is a fact that my DVD-drive has problems to read and burn DVD-DL discs! This is a known fact for many drives and therfore
exists firmware updates for the DVD-drives to fix this problem. But why not for my drive modell???
My be it was an error to by a Toshiba Notebook!? I am a customer and I don't care what special
DVD-drive modell is in my notebook (TS-L632D , H or wwhat ever)!!!
My message to Thoshiba: "Pleas help me to solve my problem!!!"
    Greetings

  • Pavilion Slimline DVD drives and eject wire...

I tried to replace the DVD drive on my Pavilion Slimline with an HP dvd1270i DVD drive. Had no problems installing it until I tried to plug the eject wire to a plug on the new DVD drive. Problem is, there's no plug on this drive to attach the eject wire to. The DVD drive that originally came with the Slimline does have this plug. Can someone recommend a DVD drive for the Slimline that does have a plug for the eject wire? Or is there a way to transfer the plug from the old drive to the new drive? Thanks in advance...

I have similar problem on my micro PC case from HP
CD rom tray has not mechanical device for ejecting media but electrical switch instead.
There is no chance to reach eject button on DVD ROM, because it's hidden under doors on the case.
And that {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion}non standard HP connector for opening CD used on case is not compatible with any DVD ROM I can find in my local store including HP products.
And nobody knows anything about that.

  • DVD Drive does not writes DVD

    I have lenovo G580.
I am not able to write DVDs from my Laptop. I have MAT**bleep**A DVD-RAM UJ8C1. It sometimes detects the blank DVD and sometimes doesn't. And even if it detects the blank DVD, as soon as I start the burning process, the drive ejects the disk saying "An error occured while writing disk". The same DVDs work fine on my Samsung Laptop. I even used different brands of DVDs but same problem occured every time.
I couldn't find any driver for the optical drive on the support website.
I have no issue with reading and writing CDs.

    Hellow!
I have the Lenovo G580 (Lenovo Solution Center reports #20150). It has the TSST Corp. CDDVDW SN-208DB CD-ROM. It normally writes common CD and DVD through Windows 8.1. However it cannot write dual layer DL DVD for 8.5 Gbytes.

  • Problems with dvd-drive

    Hi.
I have a Lite-on cd/dvd-drive, which writes and reads discs. About a week ago i tried to burn a dvd, and noticed that my drive is not detected by Brasero. I tried other programs, and same thing with them (gnomebaker detected my drive, but it did not manage to burn).
Then I tried to read some dvds, but i noticed that my drive doesn't read cds or dvds anymore. I don't know if this problem has been since i changed to arch, because i don't use my drive so much.
    Dmesg says next:
    sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 48x/48x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
    Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
    sr 1:0:1:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
So I believe that my drive is detected by the system, but some drivers or configs are failing. I tried to change my fstab and added myself to optical- and storage-groups, but no difference. What else I can do to find and solve the problem?
I Also found out, that i can't use usb mass storage devices. According to dmesg, usb storages are detected, but i can't see them anywhere.
    scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 PMAP PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
ps. How can i change ide-scsi to ide-cd for my dvd/cd-drive?

I have only one drive, which both reads and writes. The drive is not dead, since i can boot from LiveCd.
Edit: Apparently I can't use LiveCds no more, or boot from any cds. So I think my drive is busted

Can you please advise me and or let me know if I’m buying the right stuff or if there is any other blu ray that will work with the I mac as plug and play.
    Thank you
    Haim

This freezing reminds me of really old Macs, long ago, in the days of the old-school peripherals like SCSI drives, terminators, scanners and the like. If you had a SCSI conflict, like the wrong device ID's or something, you'd freeze up like that. Back in those days you'd call 800-SOS-APPLE (AAPL?) and they'd run you through disconnecting all your extra hardware - Jaz and Zip drives, CD burners, scanners etc and then eliminate them one by one by adding them incrementally and testing for the freeze/bomb dialog.
But, today we have Firewire and none of those ancient issues (no free lifetime tech support either). My iMac's ports are all full, and I only know which devices are connected when I have to remove something for another device. iSight, scanner, card reader, external hard drive, USB soundsticks, etc. You wouldn't happen to have any SCSI devices hooked up, would you?
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different USB/Firewire port for the hard drive? Or run the hardware test DVD that comes with your computer? This weird freezing seems to suggest a problem with the computer, RAM or network more than a device. Bad devices, in my experience, cause kernel panics, not freezing.
