CD/DVD Driver Missing; Re-installing Windows 7; *FIXED*

EDIT: I have found another possible solution, I will return shortly if it does not work.
EDIT2: The solution worked.  It was found here. It is an HP solution.  Thank you so much. While it wasn't exclusively to me, I know you guys slave away at helping people.  I appreciate your hard work!
Hello,
Long story short: I let a co-worker use my laptop, he fiddled with something that he won't admit to, now I need to re-install windows 7 JUST to get in so I can use the RECOVERY partition that the latop came with.
However, when I use a USB boot device I get an error stating, "Missing cd/dvd drivers" before the installation even begins.  The installation does give me an opportunity to install any missing drivers, but I can not seem to find what I require.
I have seen a few other posts regarding this on the HP support forums, one even mentioning extracting the files of another software installation and yanking out nvrd64.inf
I ran into another roadblock, again. That software installation  only came with nvrd32.inf and it was not recognized by the HP laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated before I finally cave in and mail it in for repairs.
Regards,
Lindsey

Hi,
I don't believe that any of the recovery options from the Disc will retain your custom partition - As far as I know, the only time you will get a prompt to keep a custom partition is when using the 'Minimized Image Recovery' option from the Recovery Partition D which you have removed.
You could try the following work-around.
Download the correct Windows 7 Disc Image from the link below - this must be exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the version you would need to download.
Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.
Use the disc you create to perform the installation - when you get to the option to choose the type of installation, choose Custom and select the C partition.
When asked, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook, then when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here.

  • Macbook bad DVD drive how to install windows in bootcamp

My macbook has a bad DVD drive. I just upgraded it to snow leopard and want to install windows using bootcamp. Unfortunately when the windows installation starts the machine reboots but does not seem to be able to detect the windows disc in an external dvd that I have attached to it. I tried two different usb dvd readers and finally a firewire one I had laying around to no avail.
without the DVD drive working, how can I get it to install Windows?
thanks very much in advance for any help

    Hi Amy
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
This particular forum is for student software developers so you might not get an answer to your question. I suggest you post it again, but this time to one of the Boot Camp forums. Maybe someone there will have the answer you want.
    Best wishes and good luck

After running bootcamp, DVD drive is detected by Windows 8. But after installing drivers, no longer can detect. Device Manager shows that DVD drive is unplugged! Drivers in Bootcamp “removed” the DVD drive. I think there is an issue because I reinstalled Windows 8. If I don't install driver, then I have reduced functionality (no Apple keyboard, no sound etc), but once I install driver, I lose my DVD drive.

Hi, guys, I have had the exact same problem since the summer of 2010. Here's what I was able to find out.
Deleting upper/lower filters, running all those Fix Ya programs and other Microsoft crap is useless. This problem is most certainly has nothing to do with registry of any software on your computer. I took my HP 9620us to a couple of repair places and, they tried a lot of things and it appears that the root of this problem is a faulty motherboard connection. Of course, it costs about 400 bucks to fix it so I'm not sure I want to pay this kind of money.
Anyway, if somebody was able to fix it PLEASE post here to let us know. Again I am 99 per cent sure it's some piece of hardware in the motherboard.

  • DVD Drive Not recognized in Windows 7

    Hi all,
I have successfully installed Windows 7 on my Lenovo 3000 N200 0687-A11. I have a problem, my DVD drive is not detected at all (not shown in Device Manager) but I can still open it, and it is definitely detected in the BIOS, and also it can boot from the CD - the problem is that it is not detected in Windows 7.
I am thinking that an application is causing this problem
     - Nero
     - iTunes
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dean

    Hi all + bladewing,
    My DVD drive is now detected and working!!! What I had to do was;
    1. I created a new partition (on the same hard drive) and temporarily installed Vista on the Partition (Making it a Dual Boot PC).
    2. After Windows Vista was installed, I went into the Device manager, to find that the DVD Drive was successfully installed.
    3. In windows explorer, I went to the directory D:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and copied the file cdrom.sys and moved it to the partition in which Windows 7 was installed (C:\) . (Note: In this case D: was the partition in which Windows Vista was installed, and C: was the drive in which Windows 7 was installed.)
    4. I booted into Windows 7, and the driver was successfully installed.
    Done.
If anyone else is experiencing this same problem, and needs help with resolving it, please do not be afraid to PM me or post on this same Message. Also, I have the cdrom.sys file (from Vista – mentioned in this post) available if you wish me to send it to you or upload it.
Once again, thank you for all your help with this issue.
    Thanks,

  • Found "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" when installing Window 7 64bit.

    Hello,
I just bought X220i with Core i-3, ram 8G. When I tried to install Window 7 64bit (Coz of Ram 8G), I got the message “A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing...”. I did browse the driver (using USB 3 Driver) but, it didn't work.
    Any idea to resolve?
    Thanks in advance.

What media are you using to install win 7?  USB DVD drive, flash drive, ???  Downloaded ISO or Lenovo or Microsoft DVD?
One reason (of many) you can get this error message is bad media - corrupt download, bad burn, defective flash or optical media.  I've also heard of problems with USB ports causing this.  If you're using USB media, have you tried another port?
And as NINE asked, when in the process do you get this error?

  • DVD Drive disappeared after installing Boot Camp on Windows 8

I am running Mountain Lion and I bootcamped Windows 8... this is a fresh install.
    1. I installed Windows 8 and the DVD is still working
    2. I installed Bootcamp software via DVD and was asked to reboot
    3. I reboot my iMac
    4. Now, my friggin DVD doesnt work anymore...
    5. I look at My Computer and it's gone.
    6. I look at the device manager and it's not there
    7. I showed hidden devices and the hl-dt-st dvdrw ga32 is there (disabled of course)
    8. i am writing to apple community after a night of searching for a solution in vain.
please help me. i really need my DVD drive
    thanks in advance

    thanks for the response
    1. Yeah I thought that's a mandatory thing because i need to be able to control the brightness with my keyboard, updated graphics card, boot camp control panel, etc
    2. No there's no enable for this because Windows 8 recognizes it as a "disconnected device" and asks me to reconnect the dvd drive to the machine (which it obviously already is).
    3. Ive tried those before, also even editing the registry but it didnt work.
It's weird because it never happened before on Snow Leopard » Lion bootcamp driver updates. Just in Mountain Lion

  • Satellite L750 - Windows 8 Upgrade - DVD Drive Missing

I upgraded to Windows 8, after a short while I found the DVD wasn't displayed in windows explorer and devices. I had seen this before on another laptop and installing the Win 8 SATA drivers seemed to cure it.
I have gone to the driver section on the Toshiba site for this model and there are none for SATA. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a fix or the Win 8 SATA drivers for this model please?

  • How do you solve a DVD drive recognition conflict between Windows 7 and iTunes?

After doing an iTunes reinstall to resolve another issue, I discovered that my PC running Windows 7 would not recognize my DVD burner, drive E:
when attempting to do a backup to a DVD disk. Window 7 Device Manager indicated that there was a registry issue and assigned a code 19. I called Microsoft Support and they want into my Windows registry and made the required changes to correct the problem for $99 as the OS is out of support. I bring this issue to your attention in case you have a similar DVD recognition issue if you do an iTunes reinstall. The issue has been resolved. However, when I open iTunes now, I get a message as follows:
"The registry used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software". I did not install other CD burning software. Only iTunes was reinstalled. I can still import CDs into iTunes using my DVD drive so I ignore this annoying message every time I open iTunes. I am an iPad 2 user on iOS 6.

Thanx b Noir for your recommendation. I did not see your recommended solution from my search. As a user with medium IT technical skills, I would only put this caveat out there that any time you change a system registry your risk is very high and the downside consequences can be severe due to any error e.g. A space or incorrect character, incorrect instruction, etc. So each user should decide based on their own experience and confidence level which remediation route they should take - third party remediation or do it yourself help.

  • XP DVD Drives Missing or Corrupt

On my Macbook Pro I have Leopard and Windows XP installed. While on the XP side the DVD drive will not work. It says the drivers are either corrupted or missing.
How do I go about fixing the drivers for the XP side? (It used to work up until yesterday)

I am having the exact same problem and have been able to find little to any information on here for help with the issue. I'm probably just going to call Mac up and see what they say.

  • Dvd drive wont eject - using windows 7 - G50-70 i5

Im having problems with my dvd drive.  Have seen a few similar posts on here but I cant get anything to work.  The drive did initially work, but now I have installed windows 7, it wont eject.  The drive can read discs.  When I press the eject button, the light comes on, and I get the usual noise of the drive, but it wont eject.  It will eject using a paperclip, but not using eject under my computer.  Ive installed the lenovo eject utility, but no idea how to use it, but I dont think that having to go into the bios everytime or to use a paperclip is acceptable on a new laptop.  Would be grateful for any tips to try before I send it back.  For example, where can you download a mat**bleep**a driver or firmware update? Ive searched but they dont seem to have a website.  All I seem to get is lots of utilities that want paying for downloading anything.  Many thanks for any help, Tristan

    hi Tristan,
    Welcome to the Forums.
AFAIK, when you press the eject button, it sends a signal to the logic board, and the logic board sends a function to the eject machanism to release the tray. From your observation, it's likely that there's a mechanical or other physical failure inside the ODD that's preventing the tray to eject.
The Lenovo Eject Utility on the other hand is design for Thinkpads (haven't tested this on Ideapads units) and its function is the same when you right click on the DVD Icon and chooe Eject.
       - Sample image
I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may likely need to send the unit for service.

I used the DVD drive to install the Windows 7.  And I can see the DVD Drive in the BIOS.
I tried all those options from on-line such as:
The upperfilter - did not have this setting in regedit
The lower filter - did not have this setting in regedit
Using the F8 key to turn off the security checking etc

Maybe assign a drive letter to it might be the issue the upper and lower filter issue had a tool I used once but that was a while ago
