CD/DVD drives can't read Acrobat X Pro disk

My CD drive and DVD drive are unable to read my installation distribution disk. However, they can read an earlier version of Acrobat 7 Standard. Do I need to update my drives? I also have the same problem when trying to install FrameMaker 9. Please advise.

>Do I need to update my drives?
Possibly, but it stretches my mind a bit to think that TWO drives won't work
The easiest thing to do is go into Control Panel and remove the device(s) and then do a restart and let Windows "find" the drive(s) again and install the drivers
Only if that doesn't work should you go to the vendor site(s) to find a firmware update
Do you have problems reading any other discs?

  • Dvd drive can't read DVD's

    hi all,
My problem is the dvd drive in my laptop. It will not read dvd's commercial or burnt variety, curiously it reads cd's just fine. So far email tech support has been useless. I wrote them explaining what steps I had tried to fix the problem such as uninstalling and reinstalling device drivers and they suggested that I try and reinstall device drivers. Do they even bother to read the emails you send or just guote out of some manual. System restore did not work either, but the drive is rarely used so the latest system restore points are probably useless wrt this problem. Returning the unit to factory state is simply not an option. The unit is still under warranty. Any other suggestions? I couldn't find any firmware updates. Other than this problem this system works flawlessly and has since I bought it.

The DVD's I assume are data as well as movie files? Do you have an app such as Intervideo, etc to play dvd's?
My usual steps include running a laser cleaning disk, remove/reinstall as you have done and maybe deleting upper & lower filters.Once done if it still doesn't work,it is declared dead.
I would request a replacement.Of course HP will likely first make you jump through the usual hoops which include a System Recovery back to factory configuration. This can be eased considerably by making a backup Image of your current setup to restore later.
A great free tool I have used a lot lately is Macrium. It works fast and will create & save the image to external USB HDD, CD/DVD,network drive, etc.

  • Qosmio F30-112 - DVD drive can't read and burn some DVD's

    Hey everybody!
Here is the problem: My DVD-ROM won't read some DVD's it won't burn. In Nero when it start burn error pop up and the message is: Power calibration error
I've alerady tried with all testers for burner and reader and they all didn't found any problem. They said that burner and reader are working correctly. I even reinstalled Windows Vista couple of times end it still show me that error and it won't burn or read some DVD's (which I tried to read another computer and there was no problem). I tried to clean it with cleaners and nothing.
I think that problem started since I updated firmwire F103, but I'm not sure...
    Help please.

    Hi!
Was the firmware update made for your CD/DVD drive or do you have anohter one? In my opinion the drive could be faulty due a wrong firmware
But before you exchange the drive you should try to remove the upper and lower filters in Windows registry:
    1) Start Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
    2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
    4) Reboot.
    Bye

  • CD/ DVD Drive is not reading any discs! - HP Pavillion DV6747TX

Hi there, I have a problem. My CD/ DVD Drive is not reading any discs! I have no idea what's happened..it was going fine and then all of the sudden it stopped working.
The computer I have is a HP Pavillion DV6700 or DV6747TX to be exact and the CD/DVD-Rom drive is a TSSTcgrp CDDVDW TS%L632N ATA Device. It seems to be present in the Device Manager and in the Computer Menu. When I put a CD or DVD into the disc drive lights are blinking and it sounds like it's trying to load or do something, but nothing is coming up. CD Drive E still says CD Drive E instead of reading the disc that's in there and when I click on Drive E it says Windows cannot read the disc in drive E.
I have tried searching the net for answers including the suggestions on this website and have tried a few other ideas I have come across but nothing seems to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is usually  a known software conflict and happens across the board will all computer manufacturers due to a issue with multiple media burning/ripping applications being installed on your system.
You can either run this file, go online to Microsoft's site for a fix, or manually fix it by following the instructions below:
    Manually delete the registry entries
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
Note Before you use this method, uninstall all CD or DVD writing or recording programs. Deleting the corrupted registry entries might cause problems with any other CD or DVD writing or recording programs that are installed on your computer. Uninstalling these programs before you start will help you avoid any problems that removing the registry entries might cause. You can reinstall these programs after the problem is resolved.
This method provides step-by-step instructions for how to use Registry Editor to delete the following corrupted Registry entries:
    UpperFilters
    LowerFilters
Step 1: Start Registry EditorStart Registry Editor
Start Registry Editor...type "regedit" into the run box on the start menu.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry
In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
Expand Control, and then expand Class.
    Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only.
If you see the UpperFilters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry."
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value?
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click LowerFilters.
Note You might see a LowerFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click LowerFilters only.
If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value? The LowerFilters registry entry is removed.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Step 4: Restart your computer
Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software.

  • CD/DVD Drive is not reading any discs on Equium A100

My cd/dvd drive is not reading any discs whatsoever, blank, written or commercially written. It opens and closes and the light to show it is working is on. Device manager says the device is working properly.
Tried updating drivers, no updates available. Tried system restore back 1 day then 1 week then 1 month and still the problem cannot be rectified. When i put a cd/dvd in the drive and try to access it, it says: D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
Can anybody help me i've tried everything me and my friends can think of, or is it a better idea to just send it back to toshiba under the warranty.

    Hello,
Here are a few windows articles that could help.

This one might do the trick, if not try this one.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826510/en-us
Hope these help resolve the problem. If not it could be a registry setting error which can be rectified as well. But only if these 2 above do not help to resolve the problem.

  • G60t-200 CD/DVD drive won't read XP discs

I recently re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium after I had a blue screen crash forcing me to re-format the hard drive on a g-60t-200. I've installed all the recommended Windows updates as well as all the HP updates for the g60t-200 model that I have but now the CD/DVD drive will not read the files on older discs that I burned using Windows XP on another machine. It shows the disc in the drive and shows the folders on the disc but when you open the folders, the files are not visible. When I right click and open up the properties of the disc while it's in the drive it shows it as "UDF" format. The other machines in the house running Windows XP can read the disks just fine and show all the files. Is there an update or driver I'm missing that will allow the drives to read the files on discs burned using Windows XP?

Hi sherifawad, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that after restoring your computer, you can no longer read CD/DVD's that were burned on XP with the Windows 7 operating system. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. I suggest that you make sure that you have the latest service pack for Windows 7. Here is the Service Pack and Update Center for Windows.
I am including this document for Using HP Support Tools to Update HP Software, Drivers, and BIOS with Windows 7.
I hope this helps, please let me know how it goes.
    Thank you,

  • DVD drive does not read media

Hi. This is regarding my Satellite L750 laptop (1 year old), for the past two days the DVD drive refuses to read any media - CDs/DVDs. I've done extensive and exhaustive searches to find a solution to this problem but to no avail. One of the most common problems I have come across is a software conflict with iTunes (installed on my machine) and a solution which states deleting "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters" from the registry. I have tried this out but have not been succcessful in solving the problem. Also, the drive is listed in the Device Manager.
Just for the record, I have not updated/added/deleted any CD recording software or any other software. I have not even updated iTunes for the past two months.
    I'm using Win 7 64-bit OEM.
Can someone shed some light on this issue? Will appreciate.

You may want to try this Microsoft Fix-It.
What can I do if my CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly?
You could also try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.
If that doesn't work, you could try a recovery. Recovering your laptop to its original, out-of-the-box state is a great way to eliminate software as a possible cause of the problem. Note that doing a system recovery will return the laptop to its default conditions, completely wiping your data. Information on how to perform a system recovery can be found in your user's guide. On most models you can hold '0' (zero) with the computer turned off. Then press the power button while continuing to hold '0' until the recovery utlity starts.

It will likely require replacement of the drive. There is more than one laser in there: one for each function. One can go bad without the other going bad.

Above is the part number for the DVD burner drive. I could not find one on eBay.  Here is one online:
    http://www.mydvddrives.com/replacement-for-hp-compaq-608141-001-sata-cd-dvdrw-dvd-ram-drive-burner-l...
Replacement is easy. Remove a single screw on the bottom and slide the old drive out and replace with the new drive.

  • HT2801 My DVD drive is not reading any DVD

My iMac's DVD drive is not reading any DVD. Whenever I am inserting any DVD, The DVD icon is not appearing and the DVD is ejected out after sometime. I have also tried the troubleshooting steps given in the apple support site by restting the SMC but my iMac still does not read any DVD. What do I do now? Somebody help me.

Could try purchasing a commercially available, retail dry brush CD/DVD lens cleaning system disc. These can sometimes revive a malfunctioning optical disc drive.

  • My DVD drive has stopped reading DVD's. Help?

I have owned my Pavilion S5165-uk for merely a few months now, and now my DVD Drive is refusing to read any DVD's. CD's are fine, but when you're a student such as myself, there's no better way of spending time that you're meant to be spending doing private study other than playing The Sims 3. I have tried multiple DVD's yet my drive is refusing to pick up anything other than CD's. I have tried every solution the HP troubleshooter has to offer and am beginning to feel a little stumped. Any Ideas?

Hello George_Clark, Many times when this occurs, the DVD laser has become faulty. These multi-purpose drives have a CD and a DVD laser. This might explain why the CD still works.
If this is the case, the only option would be to replace the CD\DVD drive.
I have been successful in cleaning the laser in a few DVD drives and managed to get them working again, but that is quite involved and not easily done, and after the hard work, may not be successful.
DVD drives can be purchased at inexpensive cost now, so if I suspected the drive to be faulty, I would just purchase a new one.

  • After BIOS update DVD driver do not read DVDs anymore - Sat A80

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A80-131 and after bios update (last version 2.5) by windows procedure update, my DVD drive do not read DVD medias anymore. It is possible to read CD medias, but not DVD one.
Can I reinstall the old bios? Can I reinstall the firmware?
    Thanks
    Ronai Lisboa

    Hi Ronai
Like Jimi has said in the posting above. It's very unusual that after BIOS updating the DVD drive hasn't read the DVDs.
Furthermore it's not advisable to use any 3rd party applications to DOWNGRADE the BIOS. Usually only the ASP can downgrade the BIOS. Such procedures are very serious and the wrong procedure can damage the motherboard.
However, it's nice that you have solved the problem and that the drive works properly.
    Thanks for the feedback.
