CD/DVD drives outputs to X

How can i connect the SPDIF from the dvd rom and th regular audio cable from my CD rom to the X-fi extreme card? I can only see the one for the regular cd, but not the SPDIF one? Thanks

As Cat mention, newer OS does not need the cable at all.....infact I remember Windows Me and newer does not need this. Just go to the device manager, locate your CDROM listing and have it enable Digital Playback.

When trying to install Windows 7 with boot camp, all goes well until it stops and gives me the "CD/DVD driver not found". I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with a 500 GB SSD drive. I have burned a DVD at 1X from a iso file.

Can you verify the MD5/SHA1 of the DVD with the ISO using OS X 'openssl md5' or the M$ FCIV tool? The source of your ISO should be able to provide MD5/SHA1.
    OS X Example
    openssl md5 ~/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr
    MD5(/Users/MyName/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr)= 977f4f0f1400be91855789213e07b031
    Windows FCIV example

  • DVD drive not detected anymore

    Hi,
four weeks ago or so, I suddenly started to miss my DVD drive in my mount- and even in my /dev folder. From some point of time on (most likely some kernel patch), it just wasn't detected anymore.
Technically it still works, I can still boot from boot CDs, it's appearantly just a kernel detection thing.
I have this mainboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=P4VM890 with my harddisk hanging on IDE0 and my DVD drive and CD writer on IDE1.
The output of dmesg doesn't mention anything else then the successful detection of sda0-5.
    Things I tried already are:
-Pata hook only, IDE hook only, both, including kernel update.
-Putting ide_disk, cdrm, piix into the MODULES section.
-All combinations of master/slave settings for my HDD and other drives on poth IDE ports.
    -All related BIOS-settings
    -CK-Kernel, Beyond, etc.
Now in this Thread coolpyrofreak suggested to reinstall Arch with IDE-legacy enabled.. which I guess I have to try at some point, but I don't relly want to install another distribution or windows just be able to burn another arch cd.. and even though it's probably not too much of a hassle to reinstall arch and just keep my old home folder, I thought I'd give it one last try here. I still hope the ide-legacy-option can be activated afterwards. Does anyone know how? Or does anyone have any other idea what I should do?
    Thanks in advance.

Iirc ide-legacy has the same result as using ide instead of pata in mkinitcpio.
I've encountered the same problem in my desktop : DVD writer disappeared twice , but came back a few updates later
currently it has disappeared again ...
Using ide or pata doesn't make a difference, i'm inclined towards a kernel/udev/hal related combination problem.

  • Still no DVD drive......

    Hi,
Updated kernel and I still do not have dvd drive.....
Would very much like to fix this problem so I can install Ubuntu nah! only joking
What output, hooks, tools size of hammer do I need?
May try hooking up dvd drive with a sata convertor see if that works
    MrG

Well, I removed Testing from the Pacman.conf and downgraded to the kernel in Core and it works fine now, no messy kernel options needed!  I still think it's the newer kernel/pata_amd problem.  I don't see any AHCI option in my bios haha, maybe I'm just inobservant or this is an old bios.
I'm glad you found a workaround yourself.  I believe my drive is SATA as it is, so it's remarkable it didn't work seeing as my hds are detected fine.

  • DVD drives reading as CD drives?

Recently, I moved my motherboard over to a new case, I didn't bother plugging in my dvd drives for awhile, but I did so last night. Of course I had to reset my cmos in order for y motherboard to detect them as being connected, but as I booted into arch and tried to burn and watch a dvd it fails to do so. It will mount and play CD's, but no longer DVD's, does anyone have any ideas why?

Alright, I unplugged my DVD-ROM reader drive, because the tray was broken anyways. So now I just have my DVD+RW. I changed it's jumper to master, plugged it back in, booted back up. Now wodim -precap shows it's info, and this is what is says:

  • [SOLVED] Slow ripping on Grip/No DMA on DVD drive

    Hi
I am using Grip to rip and encode CDs to mp3. I am only getting 2.0x at the most on the rip, it generally tails off to about 0.8x. I am using cdparapoia as the ripper. I thought that it might be down to dma not being enabled for my dvd drive, so I tried this:
    hdparm -d /dev/sr0
    and I get this back:
    /dev/sr0:
HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Am I right it thinking it is DMA related? If so, how to I check and enable it? If not, what can I try?
    Thanks

    Hi
I have been doing some Googleing and found this link and tried adding ata_piix to the modules array in the rc.conf and then rebooting and that did not help with being able to turn on or check for DMA. I also tried the kernel arguments to no avail. I also found this link on the forum but sdparm -d /dev/sr0 gives me:

  • How to set the default DVD Burner (output device) in DVDSP 4.2.2

For the life of me I can't find that click - default DVD Burner (output device) - but I can see where you can set it under both Build/Format and Format. Too bad it always goes back to the superdrive, which I never use. Thx!

ha! So I am not crazy on this one. The strange thing is that every once in a while when I open DVDSP, the external burner has become the default, and I can use the Burn click, but only until I do a reboot or shutdown. But obviously then there is nothing in the interface for setting a default. jvenzon, If you do a format and build you can choose, which is what I do each time, remembering to change the Destination to the external drive. Then say "reuse" when asked, and I think that does what the Burn click would do anyway. Cheers,

  • DVD drive failed after upgrade to 10.4.9

After upgrading to OS X 10.4.9 I noticed that my internal DVD drive (SuperDrive Pioneer DVR-104) failed.
I did the delta upgrade and immediately checked the most common "error" of misbehaving eject key. The key did not function at all, even after pressing it for minutes.
Later I found out that the complete drive failed.
System Profiler tells me (sorry german output)
    Modell: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Version: 0000
    Seriennummer:
    Absteckbares Laufwerk: Nein

Note: no version or serial number!
DVD player gives the message (translated):
"no valid DVD drive found [-70012]"
Toast does not find the drive.
    I did:
    - repair permissions
    - repair drive/file system
    - the combo upgrade
    - reset parameter ram
    - reset all from open firmware
    - reset PMU
    no change
Do you have any hints besides replacing the drive?
Maybe it's just a coincidence. I did not use the drive for 2 weeks before
    the upgrade.

  • Boot Camp: Installing windows - CD/DVD driver not found

    Hi all,
    I have a late 2012 27" iMac - no optical drive. Running 10.9 - Mavericks.
Using Boot Camp Assistant I have created a BOOTCAMP partition, and a bootable Windows 7 USB key.
When I boot into the USB, I can proceed to the point where I click "Install Windows".  The next screen tells me there is a missing CD/DVD driver.  Well no kidding - my computer doesn't have one.
I've tried removing the USB key and putting it in a different USB port at that step - no change.
I've searched all over, but 99% of the similar problems are from people installing from a disc - I'm installing from an ISO on a USB key.
    Any ideas?

Can you verify the MD5/SHA1 of the DVD with the ISO using OS X 'openssl md5' or the M$ FCIV tool? The source of your ISO should be able to provide MD5/SHA1.
    OS X Example
    openssl md5 ~/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr
    MD5(/Users/MyName/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr)= 977f4f0f1400be91855789213e07b031
    Windows FCIV example
    D:\>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\FCIV\fciv
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
    Usage:  fciv.exe [Commands] <Options>
    Commands: ( Default -add )

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,
    Bilil

  • Windows Vista Home + iTunes = no DVD drives

I am a long time iTunes user, and have been having an issue with iTunes for the last little while. When I install iTunes (I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit, by the way), after the required restart, my DVD drives' icons disappear (I have 2 of them). I can see the DVD drives in the Device Manager, and they say they cannot start. The only I think I've had these problems since about iTunes 7.0, but I don't burn CDs that often, so I've really not felt too bad about it, except that my wife would like to do so. I've done the registry change where you remove the upper and lower filters, which corrects the drive issue, but then presents the seemingly inevitable Registry issue dialog box, without the option to burn CDs. Here are the steps I've done thus far to try to get my computer and iTunes to play nicely:
    1. Tried reenabling the UpperFilter for GearAspiWDM as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305422
    2. Tried downloading new GEAR drivers from their website.
    3. Tried uninstalling Quicktime, and then installing it separately.
    4. Uninstalled my other music service software (SonicStage), and then reinstalling iTunes.
    5. Completely uninstalled iTunes, and then reinstalled it (a couple of iTunes versions ago).
    6. Tried uninstalling the non-functioning DVD drives in the device manager, and then scanning for hardware changes. When the UpperFilter was still present, this part failed. It passed after I removed the UpperFilter registry entry.
    Please help!
