CD/DVD Ejection

I just got an iBook G4 from a friend. I tried to import music from CD's into itunes. The CD does not pop up on itunes and after a short while, the computer ejects the CD. I read on a support page that I could reset the PMU, but the directions/photo for a G4 don't match my iBook G4, so I couldn't do that. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi Leonitus,
Welcome to the Discussions.
Here are directions for resetting the PMU. Ignore the warning about RAM discs. OS X isn't capable of creating one.

  • Dvd ejects during burning in iDVD

Near the end of burning a iDVD slideshow to the DVD the DVD ejects. What's wrong?

iDVD SlideShow function is limited to 99 photos PER SlideShow. You can have several of then (up to 99 too)
But I rather use another tool
    • Video editor as FinalCut as I here have 100% controll
    • Not iMovie'08 to 11 as they can not deliver what iDVD needs - interlaced SD-Video - but discard every second line in the picture resulting in a big quality loss.
    • iMovie HD6 - delivers
    • FotoMagico™ (included in Roxio Toast™ Pro bundle)
And note: That DVD created with any program is just as standard: interlaced SD-Video
Feeding iDVD HD material will not improve the final DVD result but degrades it due to Bad downscaling.

  • DVD ejected before completed

I am trying to burn a DVD movie that I made on iMovie onto a DVD-R using iDVD. I get to the "multiplexing and burning" stage when the DVD is ejected. Nothing displays on the screen, it looks like it is continuing to burn. There is nothing burned onto the DVD. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I am not getting an error message or anything, just the DVD ejecting without the movie completed.

I think Snow Leopard is the problem.
    A: might be on a G5....
Question: Isn't snow leopard intended mainly (if not exclusively) for intel macs?

  • T420 DVD eject button - terrible placement; driving me insane

Every time I pick the laptop up or am laptopping in bed I am constantly hitting the DVD eject botton on the T420.  This is my 10th ThinkPad over the years and have never had this problem.
I'd even prefer a blank to fill the slot  or a battey option than have it the way it is now.
Is there a way to disable this button or be able to lock it with some kind of driver that can sis in the systray?
Can Lenovo give us a new optical drive?

Hmmm ... I think I gotta drop by a Think shop to test it for myself too
ColonelONeill, did the DVD rom eject when you hold the sides of the laptop? It does not "curve" in like the previous models?

  • PS CS6 (mac) dvd ejects before being read.

PS CS6 (mac) dvd ejects before being read.

    Hi ,
We really apologize for all the inconvenience which has caused you.
Are you able to mount other optical media successfully?  If you put the Photoshop CS6 DVD in another Macintosh is it able to be read properly?  If you can read other discs fine and the disc won't mount on another Mac then it is likely a problem with the DVD.
If the DVD can be mounted on another Macintosh then it is probably an issue with the optical drive on your Macintosh.
Btw if you need the install files you can download the trial from http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop.  You can then use the serial number included with your software purchase
In the meanwhile if these steps doesnt resolve your issues you can contact Adobe support by following the link below:

  • Help!  'Leopard CPU Drop-in DVD' Ejecting on Brand new macbook pro

Hey everyone. I just recieved my highly anticipated Macbook Pro that came preinstalled with OSX 10.4.10. I haven't installed anything yet because i am wanting to install Leopard first. The computer came with the 'Mac OS X Leopard - CPU Drop-in DVD'. After I put the dvd in i have tried to install it 4 different ways. One, just by double clicking the 'Install Mac OS X.app' icon (i've actually tried this about 4 times). Second, I tried to install it by using the Leopard DVD as the start-up disc as described in the 'troubleshooting leopard' doc online. Thirdly, I tried (three times) to restart the computer with the DVD in while holding 'C' down. And finally, my last attempt i installed the Tiger discs thinking that might do it...after i installed Tiger which was already preinstalled on the computer, I repeated the above mentioned methods...and everytime the dvd gets ejected on the restart...a couple seconds after the 'apple logo' appears on bootup...then, the 'not working' icon (circle with the diagonal line through it like 'no smoking' logo) appears.
help!!! i'm anxious to get Leopard running!!!! i've been dreaming about this computer for about 3 years now.
    any help is appreciated!!!

ok...i'm not sure how at all...but, a couple hours have passed since i posted this and while i was hoping someone would reply i was finishing up some old work on my old, extremely slow emac. anyways, i decided to go ahead and try to install leopard again from the normal standard method. (which is just clicking the icon once the leopard install window comes up). Guess what? now it's 50% into the installation!! i don't want to count my chickens before they hatch...especially after some of the discussions i've read about leopard so far...but, i'm hopeful
who knows how...i'm clueless and it doesn't make much sense to me. but, i'll come back and let anyone who cares know how the install went.
note for anyone with similar problems:
another strange fix to the 'leopard dvd ejecting on install' is to let the dvd chill in the drive for a couple hours...then try it again. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! worked for me

  • Cd/dvd ejects every few seconds

The cd/dvd ejects every few seconds with or with out a disk loaded.  ???  Not sure why.  Thanks

    Hi,
This could be caused by a malware. Try to go to the BIOS and see if it ejects there. Tap F2 when you turn it on and it should go to the system setup (black screen). Let it stay there. If it doesnt happen there then it could be caused by a malware. Run a virus scan.

  • Safari Prevents DVD Eject

I created a DVD which has some basic html data on it. It seems that if this html is accessed by Safari, it then become impossible to eject the DVD normally. I can narrow it down specifically to Safari (I'm using Version 5.1 (6534.50)). If I merely mount the DVD and do nothing, I can eject without any problem. Also, if I browse the content in Firefox, the disk will eject fine. But the second I load up the web page in Safari, the DVD locks. Even after quitting Safari entirely, I will still get a message upon attempted eject: The disk "disk name" wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it. Again - I know Safari is the culprit because when other other programs are in use, the DVD ejects fine. It only becomes a problem after I launch Safari. Once locked, my only remedies are either to force eject the DVD or restart.
For what it's worth, I created this DVD using Toast 10 Titanium. It's a hybrid Mac/ISO data DVD. The Mac side of it has some custom data: custom background image, icons, "blessed" to auto-open uopn mount. Is there anything else I should do so that it plays nicely with Safari?
    Thanks for any help.

Do you have any Safari extentions?

  • DVD eject button on laptop

Brand new Laptop HP Pavilion, the dvd eject button has not been opening for six month. has anyone else had this problem.

When my laptop was brand new, its made this same bug, but it ended for a while ago, I think it was a BIOS bug. Now do that if I push the bottom of the laptop under the DVD drive, it will open. This is a "good" thing, when you writing a disc, and push the bottom accidentally while take the laptop to other place... Try to update your BIOS.

  • Blank dvds eject and no icon after installing mavericks

I have a late 2008 (aluminum) 13 inch Macbook and recently installed the new OSX Mavericks. I wanted to put some pics onto a dvd. Inserting a new blank DVD (tried more than one DVD), the internal drive sounds like it is trying to play/open the DVD ( no icon shows on desktop) ,then a window pops up asking for password. After putting in password, hit ENTER. The DVD ejects immediately. Looked into -System Preference - CD/DVD check settings nothing corrects problem. When I put a pre-recorded DVD (movie) Icon comes up and it will play the movie.
    Does anyone have any suggestions\
    Thanks DJ

    Hi,
Insert a blank CD and boot up your Mac. When it boots to the Desktop, drag that CD icon to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Drive won't read any dvd-ejects it automatically after spinning some time

The SuperDrive on my MBP has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my wife's Sony Vaio laptop.
There was a thread on this previously, but Apple has closed it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1295681
I know Apple won't own up to the problem, so has anyone found a solution?
    Drive details:
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N:
    Model: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N
    Revision: AP09
    Serial Number: K0077R40928
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
    Low Power Polling: Yes
    Power Off: Yes

Got exactly the same problem a few days ago (still there, las time I checked):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1914325&tstart=0
Dunno why, but I think this has something to do with the Security Update 2009-001 Apple posted on its download platform a few days ago. Must have wrecked my SuperDrive somehow--and maybe yours, too--and I agree with Ryan when he says Apple hasn't been up to its reputation, lately. Maybe the market pressure got too much, and they started buying cheaper components...
Makes me wonder; imagine, you buy the brand new MacBook/MacBook Pro, with its encased battery and other fancy stuff, and something breaks down in the beast's belly. What do you do, then, bring it back to that some so-called Genius tells you to send it in to AppleCare.
    Naughty, naughty, Apple...

  • Drive won't read any dvd ejects it automatically

My drive Won't read any kind of DVDs, it keeps ejecting automatically after spinning for a while. it's been going on for a while now. please help!!!!!

You can try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
and PRAM How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If that doesn't help you can try a cleaning disc or a quick shot of canned air. It's likely though that your drive has failed, it' not all that uncommon. It that is the case you can either replace it or have it replaced but it's far cheaper just to buy a usb external drive....just not Apples because it won't work with macs with a built in drive working or not. .

  • After SL-DVD drive won't read any dvd-ejects it after spinning some time

Yesterday I bought the SnowLeopard DVD in order to do the update of my Mac OS.
Right after inserting the DVD in the drive (MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8221) it started to have some problems with reading the DVD.
The Drive has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my Toshiba laptop.
I tried several times, but the drive isn't able to read the DVD and now has the same problem with other CD-Roms and DVD.
I am very suprised (and angry) about it, especially because I hardly use the drive.
As a lot of other people are having the same problem, there seems to be a structural problem with the drive and I think that Apple has to clearify if they are planning to do something and what.

Mine MacBook seems to be doing almost the same thing. The SL disk spins a bit then is ejected. It does the same thing with my first SL disk and the one Amazon sent as a replacement. I had the same trouble with the 10.5 Install disk purchased retail. Apple sent a replacement Non-retail disk and it worked. I can burn DVDs and read DVDs I've burned.

  • DVD eject problems recurring

I have problems ejecting a DVD about 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 times I play one and I wondered if this was common to all iMacs or a problem with the Core Duo or OS X?
It happens with all types, self burned and retail so I don't think it's linked to a single type of disc. If it's uncommon I guess it'll need a service.
Just woke my iMac from sleep and realised it slept with a kids DVD inserted and paused. Again couldn't eject the DVD but could both stop the DVD and close its window and start playing again - now here's the odd thing it isn't showing as mounted on the deskop.
Maybe this is an OS X problem rather than the drive?

Yes! Thx God it's up and runing again! I have read this ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=455830&tstart=0 ) post and tryed to just have pacience and wait in front of a white screen for 10 min or so and at a certain moment it just started up! Pressed the eject button and the cd came finally out!
    This is the magic post:
