CD/DVD in Satellite L300 1AM in WinXP- drive runs and stops alternately

Hello
I have bought a new Satellite L300 1AM
I have installed WinXP Home SP3 system (using nLite and SATA driver from Storage Manager), and all drivers from Toshiba website.
I have problem with CD/DVD drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N):
-copying from CD/DVD on HDD looks like following: for some time (few second upto few minutes) data is copying; then drive slows down and stops, copying is stopped, progress bar does not move; after e.g. 1 minute drive starts to rotate and next part of data is copying. Sometimes system stops to respond and one has to reset computer, sometimes computer restarts automatically...
-listening to audioCD music and watching DVD movies look similar, it easy to imagine...
-uninstaling DVDRAM in Device Manager and restarting system helps a bit, i.e. time of copying becomes a bit longer..., sometimes problem occurs with next CD/DVD in drive
-AudioSilencer do not change anything
-writing on CD/DVD is also impossible - progress bar stops after 1-2 minutes and nothing happens. Yellow diod is still on and to stop process one has to restart system...
What is interesting, drive works perfectly with newest Debian LiveCD version...
Has anybody any ideas???
Thanks in advance
Jan

Hi
SATA driver has been integrated with WinXP CD using nlite - this allowed installer to find HDD and to install system :) Driver has been taken from the Storage Manager package. Later, with system installed, I run .exe from that package again.
Do you think SATA driver should be installed somehow once again?
In IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers I have only one position:
"Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller"
Should I have IDE Channels despite both DVDROM and HDD are SATA?
Lars_3, I agree, it MUST be software problem!
Perhaps something like interference or conflict between programs or drivers...
Drastic solution is to reinstall system completely and to check the correctness of CD/DVD-reading after each newly-installed program or driver... but I would like to avoid this way as long as possible :)
The problems occur with disks of various manufacturers, which work correctly on several other computers
PS CD/DVDs are read correctly also under Debian 5.0.0 installed parallelly on HDD

  • Satellite L350-20F - CHKDSK won't run and stops

When restarting to run check disk computer just starts as normal. If I uncheck both the options in the dialogue box chk disk starts but stops 3/4 through.
As the rest of the system works fine my main concern is if this will cause problems should i need to restore the system from either the recovery hard disk drive or my recovery disks?
The o.s is Vista Home Premium with all current updates installed. I would also note that the same problem occurs in safe mode.

As everything else is fine check disk is not that important to me. However as i suspect that some corrupt files are causing the problem i am concerned that this may prevent me being able to restore the system from the recovery partition or my recovery disks. If it wont cause a problem with this then i am quite happy to simply ignore it.

  • Satellite L300-1AM - Where can I get drivers for Windows 7?

    How in the title
From where can I download drivers for Windows 7 RTM (32bit) for Toshiba Satellite L300-1AM? Is it possible anyway? I see on the website only drivers for Vista/XP/OS independent.
Which of them are compability with Win7?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi
    >I see on the website only drivers for Vista/XP/OS independent.
    >Which of them are compability with Win7?
The drivers for Windows Vista are compatible to Windows 7 and most of them work on Windows 7.
So you can try these drivers.
But drivers especially for Windows 7 you will not find at the moment because Windows 7 isnt on the market as yet. You have to wait until the official release because some days or weeks later normally the drivers support starts.

Just want to avoild spending hours migrating everything across....

Yes, I can read but just can't write DVD's. I get:
This disc can’t be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new blank disc (error code 0x80020063).
Originally I thought it was the old Moutain Lion DVD drive issue (but have had the drive recently replaced by Apple), so I tried creating a new account, which worked.

  • Drivers for Windows Vista 64-bit on Satellite L300-1AM

When I can get drivers for Windows Vista 64-bit? Or I need to intall 32-bit drivers on my 64-bit Vista operating system?
    Please links ;)

    [Toshiba - Download Drivers|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp]
In the Drivers Search Page (the link above) select these filters:
    _Product type:_ +Notebook+
    _Family:_ +Satellite+
_Product Series:_ +Satellite A Series+ (don't try the L series if you want to find anything useful)
    _Operating System:_ +Windows Vista 64 Bit+
_Country:_ +World Wide+ (you have to select this in order to get rid of those multiple country options available for the modem)
    _Language:_ +English+ (obviously)
Don't modify any other filter. The results will be about 100 (maybe more, but the site is set to show up to 100 results).
    Advices:
    1. Download the latest versions only (there's no point in downloading multiple versions of the same driver, yet they will be shown in the search results area)
    2. Download what's specific to your laptop only (network - RealTek, both wired and wireless; chipset and graphics - Intel; modem - Toshiba; webcam - Chicony; there's no point in downloading anything from otehr vendors - except maybe the touchpad, but Windows can handle it properly without aditional drivers)
    3. Don't download any BIOS or Firmware file; they might not be for your notebook, and installing the wrong ones is a sure path to screwing up your notebook (and losing the warranty); if you need them upgraded, go to the download page for your specific model, Windows XP or Windows Vista 32 Bit drivers (since they are OS independent anyway)
Toshiba utilities (DVD Player, ConfigFree, etc.) should be OK too (again, download the latest version only).
BTW, I own 2 Toshiba notebooks (L300-1AM and L300-1AN; quite similar, the differences are in HDD and CPU only) and I had the same problem: no 64-bit drivers (and the same "support"). Quite strange the idea that Toshiba is testing these 64-bit drivers before releasing them (according to a previous post), since the same drivers, for the very same chipsets - but installed on other models - are available. Windows Vista 64-bit is out on the market for nearly 2 years now, the production of these models has already been stopped (and I assume they have not been produced during one night only :) ), yet they had no time to test the drivers... High-class support from Toshiba!

  • Satellite L300 - Recovery wipes C drive then fails to rebuild

My Satellite L300 has just come back from Toshiba for repair under warranty and before having a chance to burn Recovery Disks came up with the BSOD. Removed hard drive and placed in a SATA cradle and ran chkdsk which repaired it to the extent that (back in the laptop) I could at least access the Recovery Console.
I selected return to Toshiba factory state (or something similar - can't remember the exact wording!). C prompt screen came up and all seemed to be going well until it came up with an error. Retried it twice but the error / failure notice came up both times. Tried to reboot to safe mode but no bootmgr. Removed the disk again and placed it in the SATA cradle and the C partition seems to have been wiped.
With no windows installation at all, is it possible to run the Toshiba recovery (start and holding 0 does nothing)?
Would a Windows Vista recovery disc do anything or enable me to reaccess Toshiba's recovery?
    Any ideas? Help,Please!

    Hi mate,
Wait a moment, please! Which error message you get exactly and what you mean exactly with the SATA cradle?
Notebooks are country specific so which L300 you have exactly? This is important because the HDD recovery works different on the notebooks or lets say there are different ways how to start it.
    > With no windows installation at all, is it possible to run the Toshiba recovery (start and holding 0 does nothing)?
Another question: How you want to start the HDD recovery procedure if now Windows is installed? ;)
    Right, thats not possible!
In your case I would order a new recovery disk. You should contact the ASP in your country!

  • Satellite L300 - New hard disk drive info needed

I own a Satellite L300 and have to replace the hard disk drive. I am in Korea and went to the service center, but they only couldn't replace the disk drive because they only had them in Korean, so I have to go elsewhere to get one in English (that's what I think I was told anyway) I don't know a whole lot about computers, so I am looking for some help.
When I bought my computer it came with Vista pre installed, therefore I don't have an installation disk or anything like that. Because I am getting a new hard disk drive, will I also need to buy Vista and install it myself?

    Hello my friend
I am a little bit confused after reading your posting. HDD replacement is so simply and can be done by everyone and I don't understand how the service couldnt be able to do this. for this action you need 10 minutes and can be done without manuals or some maintenance manuals.
If you want to do this alone, please follow these steps:
    - turn notebook upside down
    - remove the battery
    - near the battery you will see HDD cover fixed with two screws
    - remove the screws and HDD cover
    - remove the HDD pack by pulling on the tab attached to the pack, following the direction of the arrows
    - place the HDD pack on a flat surface (such as a desk), and remove the two black flat head screws with black head screws
Please be careful with HDDs and do not apply pressure to the top or bottom of the drive.
    Vista OS
New Toshiba notebooks are delivered without installations disc but recovery image is saved on HDD. When you start notebook for the first time you will see Toshiba reminder with info that you must create such disc alone using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator. if you didn't create it and now the HDD is defective you have a problem. Either you must order new recovery media from Toshiba or you can use Microsoft installations disc to install Vista.
If Ive forgot something please let me know.

    Hello everyone.
I have a big problem with my notebook concerning the video driver.
Yesterday i've booted my windows and put Windows Vista on it.
I've taken all the drivers from toshiba site but i've encountered a problem regarding the graphic driver.
When enter setup it starts and them it gives me an error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit". Need to say that before the boot i had Vista also and it worked.
So can you please help me because i don`t know what do to..
    i`ve tried all possibilities
    Thank you very much

    Hi
    I can not understand this.
The unit supports the Intel GL40 graphic chipset.
The Intel driver from the Toshiba page should be ok
In readme.txt file you can find exact the same info which has been posted by Paolo30.
    1. Click "Start" then right click on "Computer" button and then choose Manage.
    2. Permit the User Account Control to run by selecting the "continue" button. When the Computer Management window opens select the "device manager" icon. (NOTE: IF UPDATING DRIVER GO TO STEP 3B)
3a. Double click "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". (Go To STEP 4)
3b. Select "Display adapters" then Double click on the graphics controller
    shown.
    4. Click on "driver" tab and select "Update Driver".
    5. Select the following option: "Browse my computer for driver software".
    6. Select the following option: "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
    7. Click on the "Have Disk..." button and then the "Browse" button.
    8. Enter the directory where you unzipped the file you downloaded, and then enter the "Graphics" subdirectory. Locate and highlight the "igdlh.INF" (if 32-bit) or "igdlh64.INF" (if 64-bit). Click on the "Open" button.
    9. Click on the "OK" button. A window listing all of the available display types should open. Select the display adapter that your system contains and then click on the "Next" button.
    10. Click on the "Next" button. The operating system will install the driver. Click on the "Finish" button when done.
    11. Click on the "Close" button and then click on the "Yes" button to reboot. The driver should now be loaded.

  • Satellite L300-145 (PSLB0E) - graphic card, LAN and WLan missing

    Hi,
I've recently reinstalled windows Vista Home Premium but now I have some drivers missing.
The graphic card and both Lan and WLan are missing.
I've download and installed both Lan and graphic card controllers but i can't find the right WLan.
The problem is that, the USB Wlan card is not reconnized and is showing as "Unkown Device".
I looked under the properties inspector and i found that product id shows 2 values: USB\VID_0BdA%PID_8197&REV_0200 and USB\VID_0BA&PID_8197 and is found at Port_#0006Hub_#0007 also, under name of fisical object i find it to be \Device\USBPDO-9.
I'm not totally sure that this is the Wlan card but since is the only thing that's working correctly i figure that's it. I've tried intel, antheros and realtek drivers, allways reinstalling the previous one so no conflicts would happen, but still nothing happens and windows still doesen't reconnize itm so
Please, what's the card name and where can I find the RIGHT controller for it?

    Hi
First of all you really get all drivers for your notebook on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
The drivers are pretested so I can not imagine that none of them are working.
On this website http://www.pcidatabase.com I have searched for this vendor ID but I cant find anything. Only with the device ID 8197 it shows a Realtek WLAN card so I suppose you have to use this driver.
Please check it again!!! Make sure that you have installed SP2 at least and before you install the WLAN driver again, remove all other versions and clean the system using CCleaner.

  • Satellite L300 - System crashes often

    Hello!
Recently bought Toshiba Satellite L300-1AM (PSLBGE), now I'm facing the system crashing problem.
Laptop came without operating system. First thing, I installed Windows XP, updated BIOS version from v1.3 to v1.6 then have to reinstall XP. After that, I installed most recent drivers from Intel and Toshiba support pages for this model, and automatic updates from Microsoft, including Service Pack 3.
(Chipset, video and Intel matrix storage drivers are from Intel support. Others are from Toshiba.)
Everything seems to work, without any unknown device or recognised error, but very often programs get stuck or whole system freeze. Especially when trying to read something larger from disk, or doing demanding task.
I will appreciate any experience or suggestion.
(Apologizing for bad english, hope it can be understood!)

    Hello
Its not easy to say what causes the problem. Normally I would say reinstall the notebook with the Toshiba recovery disk but you dont have one. Maybe you should contact an authorized service provider to order one or from Toshiba directly:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
It could be a software or hardware problem so in your case I would try it with the recovery disk.
Furthermore you could check the RAM and HDD. Maybe one part is faulty. Check this with Memtest86 [www.memtest86.com] and Drive Fitness Test http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT

  • Satellite L300 laptop won't load Windows

I have a Satellite L300 model number PSLB0A-00L022 running windows Vista.
The problem is that it won't load Windows. It starts ok and I can access the boot manager and the setup utility and that's it. It just stops loading.
After researching the problem I ran a drive fitness test and the result was error code 0x70. After looking up the code Im under the impression that I need to erase the disk. I have no problem with that.
My question is - if I run the windows recovery wizard will it fix my problem? Will I have to re install vista at all? Any advice is appreciated!!

Hello Jane and welcome in Toshiba forum
After reading your posting I must say that best and easiest solution for you is to reinstall operating system using original Toshiba recovery DVD. This DVD contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities. After recovery image installation you will have out-of-box state and clean preinstalled OS.
Yes, this should fix your problem. Please note: when you do this all saved data will be deleted.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not use this disc reinstall Vista and everything should be ok again.

  • Satellite L300-1AQ - Slow Boot Time

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. It takes over 3 minutes to boot to complete desktop which I think is very poor. A friend has one non-Toshiba which has a lower spec and this takes a minute. My Son's Toshiba (again lower spec) takes 1.5 minutes. I already exchanged this laptop but the replacement is just as bad - even from new without installing any extra software. I contacted helpdesk but they were not much help telling me to use MSCONFIG and Google which apps could be disabled - I tried a few but it made no difference. Most of the time is spent with a 'please wait' screen showing
In my opinion a core 2 processor (T5800) with 2GB RAM should not take this long. If I can't get any help from Toshiba or on here then I will be getting a refund on this machine - much as I otherwise like it - as 3 minutes to ready is completely unacceptable especially when lower spec machines are so much quicker.

    Hi,
I registered today to this forum only to answer this topic, because I think I have the right answer and I was so desperate because of the same problem.
As a gift to myself for New Year I bought Toshiba Satellite L300-1AM (4GB RAM, Dual-core T2300 processor at 2GHz, 250 GB HDD).
Imagine my frustration when I found, after installing Windows XP with programs I need, that:
    - boot-up time was 3min 20sec (I measured this time from the moment when I press power button till the hourglass mouse pointer goes back to arrow on desktop)
    - HDD performance was pretty bad (copying from disk to disk was 2-3 slower than on my old laptop, opening folder with many files in it took ages)
    - backup software PowerQuest Drive Image needed 7 hours to make a backup image of C partition.
I tried every advice that I found (msconfig tweaks, disabling services, uninstalling antivirus etc) but only managed to speed up boot up for 2-3 seconds.
In desperation I tried new BIOS update from Toshiba support site:
03/02/09 BIOS Update Toshiba OS independent 1.60-WIN World Wide
I was a little bit afraid to do this, since I never flashed a BIOS before, but was so furious with my new laptop misbehaving, that I took the chance.
I still can not figure out what BIOS upgrade has to do with boot-up speed and HDD performance, but it definitely did the miracle in my case!
Boot-up time is now 35 sec (unbelievable!!!) and HDD benchmark performance more than doubled. PowerQuest now needs only 20 min to make image of C partition.
My BIOS version before the BIOS upgrade was 1.40. Upgrade is really easy and painless, just starting .exe file directly from Windows XP.
Please let me know if this helps in your case.
    Best regards,
    Vladan
