Thanks to "Banhein" I have fixed the problem.  I found the repair indirectly though his suggestion to "Mannon2nd" on another similar question in this section.  His advice to Mannon2nd was similar to my problem and in following his suggestion and then going one more step that Microsoft put out if the previous fix didn't work. WORKED FOR ME.  THANKS BANHIEN.

Hello CrashComp, Thanks for those kind words. I must admit, I have experienced this very issue many, many times in the past, on other systems that come to me from friends, and others, so it was not exactly new to me.
I recall when I first encountered this problem, I reinstalled the operating system to get this issue resolved. That was years ago, but I never forgot it and it still shows up from time to time for many Windows XP users.
You would think Microsoft would have corrected this before now, but they are weaning everyone from Windows XP so they have no time to devote to Windows XP.

  • My cd/dvd drive is inop on my 13inch macbook pro and will not show a disc or eject it

cd/dvd drive will not work and will not display any disc in the drive. I have been unsucsessful in trouble this and the blank cd-r currently in the drive won't even eject manually even with a restart.

This fixed my issue, which sounds just like yours:
    http://www.powermax.com/askjacob/2012/02/optical-drive-in-imac-not-accepting-cdd vd/
    Basically:
    1) Shut down
    2) Wait until iMac has completely powered off
    3) Hold down mouse button
    4) Power on iMac and continue to hold down mouse button
    5) Listen for sound of drive cycling itself (makes the sound of ejecting a disk)
    6) Let mouse button go
    7) Log in as normal

    Thanks

It sounds like the problem is physical in nature due to the drive not allowing you to insert the disk properly.
Your best bet is to see if you can get it repaired by taking it into one of the Apple Stores or local apple authorized service providers in your area.
If you didn't get Apple Care with the system, the cost for repair can vary depending on if you get it serviced from the Apple Store or a local service provider.
If you got Apple Care, the cost of the repair should be covered, so just take it on in.
You might want to set up a Genius Bar appointment before going into the store by going to http://www.apple.com/retail and choosing the closest store, then choosing to make a Genius Bar appointment since it can get pretty busy in the stores.

  • G3 Pismo DVD-ROM Problem

The DVD-ROM (Model M7931, Apple P/N 661-2244) in my G3 Pismo is not working properly. When a CD or DVD is input the drive spins, but makes slow & fast spin speed noises. Then it quits without reading the CD or DVD. The lens is clean & the drive appears in the System Profiler. When I replace the DVD-ROM drive with a CD-ROM drive (M73888), the CD drive reads a CD, so apparently the electronics within the G3 are OK.
I've read in forums that these drive have been problematic. Has anyone attempted a repair of the drive or know what might be the problem? The Service Manual troubleshooting doesn't suggest much, except replace. Since the drive is inop & possibly need to be trashed, I'm not adverse to trying to disassemble & attempt a repair. I can continue to use the CD-ROM drive.
I doubt that I will replace the DVD-ROM because used ones appear to cost $50+ & new ones about $100+. Is there an alternate (cheaper $) PC drive that could be used?
     Cheers, Tom

It's fixed. WD40 to the rescue.
I was considering swapping the Apple drive with a PC drive (see first link below, Plan B), but thought I would do a little troubleshooting (Plan A).
I opened the drive tray from it's enclosure. Using a #0 jeweler's Phillips screwdriver, I removed the metal cover plate screws (5). Then removed the screws (3) holding the motor/plate assembly. Carefully lifted the motor assembly upward at about a 45 degree angle (flex cables were attached). Looking at the side, there was about a 1mm gap between the motor & the plate. Using the plastic nozzle on a can of WD40, sprayed a small amount of lubricant. Let it sit for a few minutes & rotated the spindle. Reassembled everything.
I inserted a CD, didn't hear any spinning noise & the CD icon appeared on the screen. Repeated with a DVD. Both were being read. Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Powerbook G4/G5 CD/DVD Drive Problem

My cd/dvd drive is not working properly. When I put a dvd/cd into the drive it moves but nothing shows up on my desktop. Sometimes it spits it back out. What is the problem. How do I make it work?

Here's how I resurrected my "dead" laptop DVD-ROM Drive
Recently I placed a CD in the DVD-ROM (Model M7931, Apple P/N 661-2244) drive on my G3 Pismo laptop to install some software. I heard some slow and fast spin sounds, but the CD icon did not appear on the Desktop. I removed the CD and inserted a DVD, but got the same results. The drive's lens was clean and the drive appeared in the System Profiler. When I replaced the DVD-ROM drive with a CD-ROM drive (M73888), the CD drive read a CD, so apparently the electronics within the G3 were OK.
I did some Google searching for possible solutions. I read in several forums that these DVD drives have been problematic, primarily with a failed motor. Looking on eBay and some Mac hardware sites revealed that used ones appear to cost $50+ and new ones about $100+. The Service Manual troubleshooting doesn't suggest much, except replace. I thought there might be an alternate (cheaper $) PC drive that could be used. I found this site Replacing or Upgrading the Optical Drive in Your PowerBook G3 or 1400
http://lowendmac.com/rivera/06/0124.html that suggested replacing the Apple drive with a PC drive.
I decided that since I had a CD-ROM drive, I probably would not spend $ for an Apple drive at this time, but I might look for a PC drive.
In the meantime, I thought that since the drive was inop and possibly need to be trashed, I was not adverse to trying to disassemble and attempt a repair.
There are 3 things in the arsenal of most guys (and many gals) to fix problems - use WD-40 lubricant, use duct tape and/or use bailing wire. It seemed that the tape and wire were not viable solutions for this problem.
I opened the drive tray from it's enclosure. Using a #0 jeweler's Phillips screwdriver, I removed the metal cover plate screws (5). Then removed the screws (3) holding the motor/plate assembly. I carefully lifted the motor assembly upward at about a 45 degree angle (flex cables were attached). Looking at the side, there was about a 1mm gap between the motor & the plate. I inserted a CD, didn't hear any spinning noise and the CD icon appeared on the screen. Repeated with a DVD. Both were being read. Yea!!!!!!!!!!!! It's fixed. WD-40, the miracle solution. How long it will last? I don't know, but for now it's working.

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,
    Bilil

  • How do I install bootcamp on the new drive that I installed with the dvd drive adapter

Hello, I have a macbook pro mid 2012 13 inch, I have just earned some money, enough to buy a SSD, and I happily went to the store and bought a samsung evo 840 120gb SSD. My plan was to clean install windows 8.1 on the SSD, I already had bootcamp on the 500GB HDD with windows 8 that came with the mac, so I backed up the important files from the windows partition. I deleted the partition, and restored it to the mac's partition (which I was going to partition again after the windows installation is complete for the storage for my windows partition) I made a installation usb with the iso I have made with bootcamp assistant, and waited. After that was done I restarted my computer holding the option key, then I booted into the EFI boot partition, and went through the process, entered the serial key, and agreed the thing, and then  when I did the format it said it couldn't do it, so I took it out put it in an external hard-drive case, then I plugged it into my windows 8 laptop, then I opened command prompt, then I typed "diskpart", then after the administrator thing popped up, I clicked yes, then in the diskpart prompt, I typed in "list disk", and my SSD was disk 1, so I did "select disk 1" then I typed "clean" Then I went into the drive manager, then a thing popped up saying which one would I choose between MBR or GPT so I selected GPT, then made a new NTFS partition on the SSD, then took it out, then I popped it back in then went through the installation, until the actual installing part where after copying files is done, this pops up "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0x8007045D" So I downloaded a torrent because I had thought that this was corrupted, and downloaded a torrent from a website, and downloaded the iso, and I tried and the same error, again and again of taking out the drive from my computer to format it and putting it back in again (since there was some files made on the SSD) so I had decided that I would download a windows 8 torrent, then I did then it couldn't even start, so I want to install windows 8.1 on my macbook pro, on a separate drive in the the DVD cage (not external, internal), would there be any way to do it, please help!

  • How to connect my Macbook Pro to play dvds on my TV

What cables and which output ports are best to play DVDs on my Macbook pro and displaying the movies on my TV? I was thinking the video output would be either "mini display" or "firewire" and the audio would be the headphone audio out port, but I'm guessing and I would rather not buy a lot of cables I don't need.

Actually, mini displayport is digital only so you can only output to digital standards like DVI or HDMI. If you have an old CRT w/ RCA inputs (the red, yellow, white inputs) then you won't be able to connect your MBP (at least not w/o an expensive convertor). There is a DVI to video adaptor but that is b/c DVI can transmit both digital and analog; your MBP, however, is not capable of sending an analog signal through there.
Long story short, if you have a new TV w/ digital inputs, then there are a lot of options, but realistically none if you don't have digital inputs.
You can buy this combination for HDMI:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=NDY5OTA2OQ
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR842LL/A?mco=NDY5NzgwMw
You can also buy a mini displayport to hdmi adapter and hdmi to hdmi cable from amazon (or other electronics stores).
If your TV accepts DVI, you can get this combination:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=NDY5OTA2OQ
& a DVI to DVI cable not sold at the Apple store.

HOW DO I RECORD A DVD FROM A VCR? I BOUGHT A APPLE MINI-DVI TO VIDEO ADAPTER AND A S CABLE ADAPTER, IT ALL HOOKS UP, BUT IT DOESN'T SHOW UP AS BEING THERE. HELP! ANYBODY! I WOULD LIKE TO DUB MY CHILDS MOVIES OF WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG BEFORE THEY ROT AWAY ON VCR TAPE. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    FYI.
I recently purchased the EyeTV 200 (Firewire).
A refurb direct from Elgato for $200.
    opeyetv200refurb)
Yeah, I got the "200" because I'm transferring 300 training sessions from VHS to DVD. I use the RCA inputs (three wire plug type - white & red (sound) and yellow (video)). EyeTV200 does a fine job.
I also use our Canon GL2 to pass the video through the camera via firewire into my Intel iMac. I find EyeTV 200 easier (and I can watch and record TV!) while at work! (WaaHOO!)
This is for the analog signal. TEh EyeTV 500 is for
    digital cable.
Didn't know that. Saw the "500" but thought it was for HDTV only. Thanks for the info.
Comes with EyeTV software which allows you to view a
TV guide (titantv.com) and click what you want to
    record.
True! You can even schedule it to record like a VCR. I set it up to record "Amazing Race" before leaving work because the program comes on late and I wanted to see it. Got to work and there it was!
Has S-Video as well as Composite video and stereo
    audio inputs.
So true. I also have a VCR with S-Video and it works just dandy with EyeTV 200.
I'm in the process of putting my videos onto DVD with
    it.
Let's you save directly as MPEG 1, 2, or 4.
Also exports to DV, iPod, H.264, DIVX, HD720, HD1080.
    etc.
Between this and iDVD and iMovie HD, it's some pretty
    wicked stuff.
Ain't it so! Two happy EyeTV users playing on their Macs!

  • I am trying to build a DVD from an Everio Camcorder in 16:9. but output is 4:3

    Hi,
I can't seem to be able to fix this problem. The settings I use in Premiere Elements 9 are as follows when I Open the project: NTSC, Hard Disk Flash Memory Camcorders, Widescreeen 48KHZ. When I bring my scenes in the timeline, I get a warning:"Mismartched Project Setting Preset" . I does not matter if I click Yes or no, they come out 4:3. Also when I create a DVD, I use the setting NTSC Wide Screen Dolby DVD.
I can figure out what to do to fix that. Also, just spent an hour on the phone with a tech about blurry output and the resolution was to change my files .MOD to .M2V. It could be a pretty long process. With those issues, it is getting to be pretty frustrating.
    Thanks for your help,

    Lut,
    Welcome to the forum.
What are the full specs. of your MOD, and M2v files? If you do not know exactly, you can use G-Spot, or MediaInfo, to gather that info.
That info might help pinpoint the issue.
