CD/DVD player on ENVY 17 not playing the disc.
CD/DVD player on ENVY 17 not playing the disc inspite of reinstalling driver since there is no update. The system is set on autorun. The disc spins but the program or movie does not play. It happens with all discs.

Why does the DVD-Player integrated in FrontRow not play DolbyDigital?

I have a problem, When I'm using the normal DVD-Player of MacOsX to play a DVD with DolbyDigital 5.1, my Macbook is sending via optical out a 5.1 Stream to the receiver. But when I'm using FrontRow, unfortunately there's only pcm put out to my receiver. Will this be changed in a future version of FrontRow? Perhaps in Leopard? The problem is, that the sound is much better putting out 5.1 than pcm. Or is there acutally any solution available to make FrontRow play DVDs like the original DVD-Player?

Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.9)I'm usually using my Core Duo iMac now. I haven't used Front Row to play a DVD for a little while, as now I've plugged the iMac into the HDTV and you can't play Front Row on a second display, only the main display. So, for the past couple of months I've been using the DVD Player program. It's possible a system update or QuickTime update has changed the way it works. I'll have to try an experiment when I'm home later.

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???
There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers. -
I just bought a new mac mini and an external DVD burner. I want to burn a DVD video and it will not play on the TV but only on the computer? Need this figured out for tomorrow. Can anyone help me?
Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?

Even when i have updated version of adobe flash player and active x from adobe.com, some sites do not play the video. A request box, install the plug in comes. When i click it, it again tries to install the same version of adobe, which i have already downloaded. it is only for some sites.
May be it is because, it is site problem? How to overcome itActiveX is part of the Windows operating system. Plus the ActiveX version of Adobe Flash is for Internet Explorer. Other browsers need their own version of Flash' Firefox needs the Plugin version of Flash.
If you go to the Adobe website to download Flash while using Firefox, Adobe will provide the correct version of Flash automatically. Just make sure you de-select any other programs that Adobe may want to stick you with before you actually download Flash. Then close Firefox and run the Adobe Flash installer. -
Dvd player 3.2 unable to play burned dvd- Any suggestions?

I'm trying to play a burned dvd movie on my dvd player 3.2, but the dvd player doesn't automatically start playing it. My ibook, 10.2.8, doesn't seem to be able to read it. However, I tried the dvd on a new Mac and it works.

The new topic button is at the root level of each forum (like iDVD 5 or iDVD 6) towards the upper left corner. You won't see it when you are looking at someone else's messages.

This isn't happening to all commercial DVDs - Doesn't sound like a problem with Apple's DVD Player application - you may have a dirty lens in your DVD drive. -
We have an "old school" DVD player (Sony dvp-nc80v) that plays music throughout our home via connection to multiple embedded speakers. Is there a connector/piece of hardware that we can purchase to hook-up our iPhone or MacBook Air to also play music until we buy some new equipment?

Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file...
I am running WMP 11.0.5721.5280. I am running XP SP3 with every update that has come out. I have 4 GB RAM and my processor is a Pentium 4, 2.6GHz.
I have a large collection of music file ripped from my CD collection. Almost every time I want to plat a music file I get a message; Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file, For additional assistance, click Web Help. When this
error box is displayed, a red 'X' placed next to the file in WMP.
When I click the "Web Help" button, I am taken to a MS website (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11b1) which tells me that I should go to the sound device website and make certain I have the latest driver. All of the advice which
is given does not apply to me. My sound device works fine! I can play CD, DVD (movies), and MP3 files. Even when I use RealPlayer, the same thing happens, but not as frequently.
Can anyone offer a solution to this problem?They'll help you over here.

Importing .GIF into Fc will not play the animated gif in output
I imported a animated .gif (attached video.gif) into Fc (of a sequence of pics I took saved as an animated .gif)
It inported as a "bitmap image" and upon export to swf it did NOT show the .gif as an animated .gif but just shows the first frame..
(It did not put this file into an assests folder...)
So I converted the "bitmap image" into an optimaized graphic...and NOW it DOES put the original animated gif into the "assets" folder with a Graphic1.fxg and video.gif in that folder.. and If I open the gif in the assest folder it plays it as the animated .gif it is..
BUT SADLY upon export to SWF it still DOES not play the gif as an animated gif.. just the first frame...
Can I do anything in the code to tell the swf file that is exported to play the gif in the assest folder as an animated gif not just show the frame?
I did the animated gif approach becasue I setup a photoshop cs4 file with a quicktime video as a layer and Fc only brought in the first frame of the quicktime layer..
Could the next beta of Fc include the ability to import and play animated gifs as artwork as well AND/or to import Ps Cs4 video layers as videos

(no experience with flash pro but just bought cs4 and will try to learn FlashPro overweekend)Interesting. I don't think this is somethign you can do in Flash Catalyst. We have .GIF support in the Flash Player but I don't think you can use a GIF asset inside Catalyst. If you need that GIF to play you'll have to embed it using Flash Builder.
But Flash Catalyst will support video version 1.0. I don't think you can turn arbitrary layers into "video" layers but you can bring in video files (like .FLV) and then attach components to behaviors (like play, stop, etc).

Put in a CD from a textbook for school...it will bring up the files but will not play the CD... what do I do? Need fast help please!!
If it's a windows only dvd you'll need windows. i don't think you want to go to the trouble of installing windows on your mac right now. Don't you have a friend or relative who will let you use their windows computer?

When I try to play an itunes purchased movie it says I have to authorize this computer. When I put in my log in information it says this computer is already authorized and will still not play the move. I have tried to deauthorize and reauthorize this computer, delete and reinstall itunes and Quicktime and nothing works; the purchased movies still will not play
I'm having the same problem on my new iMac. First it tells me it's not authorized to play the songs, then when I enter my password, it tells me it's already authorized, but still won't play them. I tried deleting a song and going to the store to redownload it and got charged for it! I've got hundreds of songs, so that's not going to be an option.
In addition, I have quite a few songs from a very old Apple ID, one I forgot I even had, I have no idea what the password was and no way to have the system send me a new password because I no longer have access to that email account.
The Mac I just "retired" could play all the songs in my catalog just fine. This new one won't play the majority of them.

Get the Apple USB Superdrive. It is available on the Apple store page of the Apple web site. Just look under storage on the left hand column under accessories for the Mac. $79. I have one since I have a lot of DVD's and CD' s. I burn DVD's made from movies created with iMovie. Works fine. You may be able to find one cheaper at Other World Computing.
BTW, you can expect that future computers will not have optical disk drives. This is definitely true for Apple and I suspect other mfgrs will also as we move more into streaming video and downloading of apps rather than selling CD/DVD versions.

I could open youtube but could not play the video's.
But when I use Internet Explorer the video in youtube is fine.

I have a Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G wireless router and 2 Airport Extremes (the small ones that plug directly into the wall). Is it possible to extend the network from the router using these two AEs? I have a DVD player and Ext HD plugged into the router too. Any ideas? I'm guessing the only way is to do what I've seen in these community pages which states that it can be done but it will drop the bandwidth by 50%. Thoughts?? Thanks!
The Cisco/Linksys WRT-54G was one of the very few routers said to be compatible with Apple's implementation of WDS (Wireless Distribution System) settings.
The info that I have on file indicates that only the WRT-54G versions 4 and under were compatible, so that would be one bridge to cross.
Even if you find that your Cisco/Linksys might be the right version, Apple never published instructions on how to configure the Express devices with other manufactures, so users were left to their own devices to try to figure out how to get things working. Apple's instructions to connect to other Apple devices are in the link below:

If you were hoping to use 2 Express devices in this type of configuration...even if it works...the bandwidth penalties will be extremely severe.
The first Express drops the bandwidth (and speed) on the entire network in half and the second halves everything again. So, the result, in effect would be a "g" wireless network running at 25% speed. Few users would consider installing this type of network.
At this point, it becomes one of those things where the fact that you might be able to do something does not mean that there would be much value in doing so. But, it is your decision to decide if you want to try to proceed.
