Cd/Dvd rom in Acer laptop

I recently bought an Acer laptop but didn't know it didnt come with dvd/cd rom built in to it. How do i go about getting one for it and how much does it cost?

It will cost you $34.99 to get one. This LG burner on the link I've given has given me many months of use and it still does not have any signs of malfunctioning .

    Hi, johnnykola
I did some research on Lenovo's website and found these two documents: X300 and X301 system service parts. According to these documents, the optical drive fore both systems is the exact same. So, in theory, you should be able to place one inside the other. However, I have never tried it, nor have I heard of anyone else doing either, so just be aware that it may not work for unknown reasons.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • I've burnt a slideshow of my photos onto a DVD disc but it will not play on my DVD player. It plays ok on my acer laptop. I burnt the same disc with slideshow from my old dell computer

I've burnt a slideshow of my photos on my Apple Mac to a DVD+REW disc but it will not play on my DVD player or on a combined DVD/TV. However it will play on my wife's Acer laptop. I then erased the disc & burned another slideshow from my ancient Dell computer onto the same disc &it played just fine on everything. So it seems the problem ids somewhere in the Apple Mac process. Any ideas?

  • Equivalent PC laptop CD/DVD-ROM for Pismo?

Some months ago I bought a used G3 Pismo laptop. Instead of the original CD/DVD-ROM (Apple P/N 661-2244) it had just a CD-ROM. I would like to get a DVD capability, however, looking on the internet at web stores the price is over $100-$130. It's not cost effective the spend that much on an older laptop. Also, there don't appear to be many used ones available.
Is there any equivalent PC laptop CD/DVD-ROM that will work in the Pismo? If there is, it's quite likely that it will be less than $100. Or is there another model used in a G3 or G4 laptop that will work in a Pismo?
    Cheers, Tom

    Tom:
Here is one less that $110 on eBay.
    Good luck.

My Vaio laptop has stopped detecting DVD ROM.The DVD drive was there sometimes AND most of the time NOT.i have tried all way of fixing the issue but all in vain. i.e deteting UPPER & LOWER FILTER Or Uninstalling DVD Driver.I dont know what the actual problem is.   please Help me. apecs are as follows- SONY Vaio laptopmodel No- SVF15318SNB4GB RAMIntel Core i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHzWin 8.1 single language 64bit OS

    Hi saurabhsaini225,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
Sorry to hear your issue. Let's isolate it by following these troubleshooting steps:
Test the Optical Drive in BIOS, and reset it - Turn off the computer -> press the power button and immediately, tap the F2 key repeatedly. Once in BIOS, go to Boot tab. Look for Boot Sequence and check if the Optical Drive is listed. If not then its already hardware issue. If DVD is listed, try to reset BIOS, go to Exit tab -> Get Default Values -> hit Enter ->Save the changes and Exit.
Power Cycle - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals-> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds -> you may use a safety pin if you see a pinhole.
Run Windows update and Vaio update.
You may also check for the latest drivers and software from Sony's support website based on your location or from where you purchased the unit.
Your Vaio SVF15318SNB is not a U.S. model and we have limited information and we do not have the drivers the support your computer.
For further assistance regarding your concern, please contact the Sony offices/Sony representative offices nearest to your place of residence in Asia Pacific region http://www.sony-asia.com/countryselector.html?hpid=countryselector:AsiaPacific. Due to proximity, they are in a better position to respond to your questions or concerns.
    Hope these help.

  • Receive message after importing serveral songs from CD into iTunes (latest ver 11.1.5.5)... "Error occurred while converting the file 'songname'.  The required folder cannot be found."  CD/DVD ROM is no longer recognized until restart.

Consistently receive the following message after importing serveral songs from CD into iTunes (latest ver 11.1.5.5)...
"Error occurred while converting the file 'songname'.  The required folder cannot be found."
CD/DVD ROM is no longer recognized until computer is restarted.

I have the same problem.  I recently moved my music from a Vista PC to a new Laptop with an external CD drive. It will copy one song from the CD and it will show in the Music file and then I get the message ' Error importing a CD - Folder not found'.  I must unplug the CD drive and plug it back in.  I have seen no fix for this problem.

  • G3 Pismo DVD-ROM Problem

The DVD-ROM (Model M7931, Apple P/N 661-2244) in my G3 Pismo is not working properly. When a CD or DVD is input the drive spins, but makes slow & fast spin speed noises. Then it quits without reading the CD or DVD. The lens is clean & the drive appears in the System Profiler. When I replace the DVD-ROM drive with a CD-ROM drive (M73888), the CD drive reads a CD, so apparently the electronics within the G3 are OK.
I've read in forums that these drive have been problematic. Has anyone attempted a repair of the drive or know what might be the problem? The Service Manual troubleshooting doesn't suggest much, except replace. Since the drive is inop & possibly need to be trashed, I'm not adverse to trying to disassemble & attempt a repair. I can continue to use the CD-ROM drive.
I doubt that I will replace the DVD-ROM because used ones appear to cost $50+ & new ones about $100+. Is there an alternate (cheaper $) PC drive that could be used?
     Cheers, Tom

It's fixed. WD40 to the rescue.
I was considering swapping the Apple drive with a PC drive (see first link below, Plan B), but thought I would do a little troubleshooting (Plan A).
I opened the drive tray from it's enclosure. Using a #0 jeweler's Phillips screwdriver, I removed the metal cover plate screws (5). Then removed the screws (3) holding the motor/plate assembly. Carefully lifted the motor assembly upward at about a 45 degree angle (flex cables were attached). Looking at the side, there was about a 1mm gap between the motor & the plate. Using the plastic nozzle on a can of WD40, sprayed a small amount of lubricant. Let it sit for a few minutes & rotated the spindle. Reassembled everything.
I inserted a CD, didn't hear any spinning noise & the CD icon appeared on the screen. Repeated with a DVD. Both were being read. Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DVD drive will not read DVD-Roms

I recently tried to reinstall a game that I had played previously, only to find that my drive will not read it. I can hear the disk spinning, but my computer will not recognize that there is a disk in the drive. I tried some of my other games and I noticed that all of the older games, that ran on CD-Rom, had no trouble installing, while the ones that ran on DVD-Rom never showed up in the drive.
This is strange because I have installed all of these DVD-Rom games on my laptop before with no problem. I've tried doing simple fixes, like updating everything and uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers, but nothing helps.

    Hi,
If it worked before then try few System Restore points and check. Could have happened due to some update.
Also provide the Product number of your notebook if restore doesnt help.
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • Can I set folder window appearance for a DVD-ROM I'm creating?

    Hi!
I'm making a DVD-ROM project that my organizaion is going to have duplicated. I'd like the main folder window to have the same appearance (always open in icon view, have a specific background image, sort-by-name, etc.). Is there a way to set this so it will be stored with the folders? Would this have something to do with the .DS_Store file?
A NOTE: This is gong to be a PC+Mac disc, so the file system won't be HFS+. It's a DVD-ROM of an audio series using a web-based interface. I am running Snow Leopard on my desktop and Lion on my laptop. Not sure if any of these details help.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text larger on high resolution displays.
You can adjust your screen resolution.
To modify it do the following:
    * Type '''about:config''' into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
    * If the warning '''This might void your warranty''' appears, click '''I'll be careful, I promise'''.
    * Search for '''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx'''
    * Double-click on layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to modify its value. The default is -1.0 in Firefox 22 and above. Change it to '''1.0''' to make it work like in previous Firefox versions.
If necessary, further adjust the value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps. Use values between 1.0 and about 0.5 to reduce elements in size. Use values greater than 1.0 to increase size. For example, a value of 1.25 will increase font size to 125% to accommodate the default DPI setting in Windows 8. '''Double check the value that you enter.''' Setting a too small value will make everything disappear and a too large value will blow things up.
If web pages still need to be adjusted then you can look at the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Default FullZoom Level] or [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/ NoSquint] extension.
To adjust the font size for the user interface, you can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ Theme Font & Size Changer] extension.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • DVD-ROM and Spotlight

I don't think this is a iDVD problem, but thought this forum is still the best place to look for some help.
Just finished an iDVD project. I've got a slideshow built in Photo-to-Movie and iMovieHD, and am using iDVD '08 to encode & burn, along with two other short movies. The kick is that I'm adding about 1000 jpegs or so to the DVD-ROM portion. The finished disk plays fine on my DVD player and PS3, and even a Dell laptop, but when put back into the mac that burned it the playback is horrible...at least for 5-10 minutes or more. And the culprit seem to be SPOTLIGHT indexing all those jpegs. If I wait 'tilt he drive activity stops (but that is quite awhile) it plays fine, even from the start or main menu. Or if I add the disk to the privacy preference in spotlight, it plays fine too.
So, question 1.....is there anything I can do to the DVD-ROM portion that would either stop the spotlight indexing or make it much much faster? I'm making a bunch of these for other people, and though most aren't Mac users, it is annoying that it doesn't "just work."
And question 2......am I crazy or shouldn't Apple be able to tell that If I launch DVD player that indexing should be paused in any case? Seems like a defect in the DVD player app if you ask me.....it should be able to delay indexing.
Question 3....is there something else I'm missing?
    Thanks
    jb

I'm wondering if is possible to address the timing of when indexing takes place through preferences.
If so, this might be another option. (not sure if this option is only available for actual hard drive/s or alternate volumes as well).
I'm sure you are also aware of apple's FB thru iDvd's Menu in order to make suggestions for improvements to this software as well. (launch iDvd and from the Top Menu scroll down to "Provide iDvd Feedback".
Try the following if you haven't already (uncheck applications in hope that DVD Player will not undergo indexing automatically as soon as a dvd is inserted). Note: I haven't yet tried this myself so I have no idea if it will actually work or not.
